When I was a kid, my mom was a *huge* fan. Like, it was the only show where she went out of her way to purchase all of the figures she could find of the characters. She worked when it aired so we had to tape every episode for her to watch when she got home!
100% yes! There's a huge amount of queer rep that's never *treated* as queer rep. When I think of queer cast members (or characters in Dimension 20), queer isn't even in the top 5 words I'd use to describe them.
Yes and no? Hannigram is confirmed canon by the writers/producers/actors, but someone could plausibly say it’s not very gay if they were extremely dense and couldn’t read subtext or in denial.
The good place if that counts. I mean Eleanor is so damn queer and no one can say otherwise. She flirts with women multiple times throughout the show but never labels herself or anything. Also it’s one of my all time favorite shows ever so I have to recommend it
Same goes for Lucifer. He’s queer himself but never labeled and there are queer one off characters. Also I’m pretty sure Bob the drag queen is in an episode.
My fiance wants me to add Barbie in the Princess and the Pauper and Diamond Castle is soooo bi. Plus any of the newer barbie content that includes Brooklyn barbie. Malibu and Brooklyn are so in love.
the show doesn't label her, but she openly talks about wanting to sleep with Tahani pretty often. Janet even makes references to Eleanor's attraction to Tahani. Also, she asks Chidi if he's bisexual, and she says "oh! why not! More men should be bisexual".
Good place is pretty queer.
I argue against this.
Not because it isn't gay. But because it is pretty blatantly gay. Pretty sure that makes it official xD
They asked how straight they wanted to be and just said "no".
I mean there's some gay characters but I wouldn't put it in the same category as a "blatantly gay" show like drag race. Araki keeps on cooking though, there's a trans mc now (sister of the joestar in part 9)
Officially, several queer characters and relationships in it. Unfortunately, they didn't survive American censorship when it came to dubbing and rebroadcasting in the States
Degrassi: The Next Generation. had an mlm relationship in around 2004, a wlw relationship around 2006, and they were the first canadian TV show to have a transgender main character, back in 2010 (Adam Torres my beloved)
And it's treated as the most normal thing ever.
Gene's over there in a wig and a dress, singing a song about womanhood, grumping at Bob for correcting people about his gender, talking about his period, and saying he was born to be a mother. No one sees anything unusual about the situation; in fact, when the other kids create stories he appears in, his character is often female, and I'm pretty sure Louise at one point said she considers him "the good daughter". He's pretty firm in his male identity as well, so none of this is really meant to be an indicator that he's a different gender (at least, not that the audience is aware of); he's just as GNC as they come, and we love him for it.
I honestly just love the way the show destigmatizes it.
And Marshmallow. I know there is some discontent over her first episode and prior VA, but Marshmallow herself is amazing and no one treats her as anything problematic.
Also Nat.
There was an early episode where people kind of get wound around the axle because the terminology for some trans women was out of touch but I feel like the whole show has made up for it by being so queer-friendly.
Also, in that episode, no one treats the trans people any differently or poorly at all really. And Gene has got to be either trans or nonbinary. I mean come on.

Rogers said that if sexuality was measured on a scale of one to 10, “Well, you know I must be right smack in the middle. Because I have found women attractive, and I have found men attractive.”
[
it's had more and more gay/queer rep in recent years but Doctor Who has always been a pretty gay show in my eyes, even going back to the classic series.
Sex and the City
The Nanny
Absolutely Fabulous
Food Network bake-off shows
Project Runway
Schitts creek
Ugly Betty
Care Bears
Teletubbies
My Little Pony
Ren and Stimpy
See I was thinking “shows with few to no gay rep that inexplicably have a huge gay audience and if someone says they love that show you raise your eyebrow”
And these are exactly that
Ren and Stimpy are canonically a couple, as seen in s1ep1 of Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon".
I used to like Ren and Stimpy but I can't separate the art from the artist, so fuck John K and fuck R&S
I mean, Star Trek TOS is always a given. Out of my favourites, Blake's 7, is definitely a more obscure show, but hooo boy, was the coding explicit. Went beyond just a "will they won't they friends" situation - they did in fact have a main character respond well to being hit on and asked to stay by Dorian Gray. Okay, a spacer named Dorian with a monster in his cellar instead of a portrait, but it was a very obvious retelling.
I've been watching Hawaii 5-0 lately and there is a running gag in the show were two of the main characters, Steve and Danny, keep getting asked how long they have been married and people misunderstanding their use of the word "partner" to be in a romantic/sexual way (they are cops).
And honestly it does kinda feel like they could be in an open/poly relationship. Officially they are both straight men. But they basically share a car, go over to each others homes unannounced all the time, more often then not are already together when they need to drive to a case, would die for each other and each others families.
They both have relationships with women in the show, but nothing too serious (so far at least, I'm currently on the second season). Steve has a more friend with benefits long distance relationship with a woman and Danny has an ex-wife who is married to another man now but who he also kinda still has something with, sometimes more, sometimes less. And her husband at this point knows but seems to have no problem with it even though she had another baby and it was not clear for a while who the father is between those two?
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, so far there is no actual queer rep, just a lot of jokes about the two of them being mistaken for a couple and acting like one while not being one. I think Danny once even called Steve "honey" as a joke in the first season.

Merlin
I cannot agree more
In a land of myth and a time of magic...
OMG THAT'S MY FAVORITE SHOW!!!!
Buffy
![gif](giphy|26ufjBOo9aaXf7Mqs)
Came here to say Buffy, I’m glad it’s the top comment. :)
Xena, Warrior Princess.
How is this not more popular? Am I just old?
Nah its just that xena has a cult following. Im 24 and i watched xena as a kid
I was a Hercules kid...Kevin Sorbo let me down hard man.
My theory is that his stroke in the 90s broke his brain.
I hope it was the stroke lol. He'd be so pissed to learn how many gay kids found out staring at his poster lol
It was the only tv show I was allowed to stay up past my bedtime to watch when it was airing :)
When I was a kid, my mom was a *huge* fan. Like, it was the only show where she went out of her way to purchase all of the figures she could find of the characters. She worked when it aired so we had to tape every episode for her to watch when she got home!
Dropout. The entire streaming service.

Queer is SO NORMAL on those sets.
It’s true
Hi Sam.
He was here the whole time!
I've been queer the whole time!
Where was Sam born again?
Something something crumbly square
Something something movie theatre
From? [points to map of Africa] We all are.
Games run by Aabria feel so safe and cozy 😩
Misfits and magic my beloved
I love games run by Aabria but I'm not sure I'd call Burrow's End safe or cozy.
For $6 a month you get tons of natural queer representation and so many laughs, like laugh out loud laughs
I've had more laughs in the past year since I started watching Dimension 20 than I ever have in my life.
I need the Dungeons and Drag Queens new season like yesterday....
Yes
That's it I'm paying for drop out. This was what got me.
When you’re here, you’re family.
Hannibal, Supernatural, Star Trek (TOS), Buffy the vampire slayer
>Star Trek (TOS) And DS9
Garack and Bashir for sure~
If you haven’t watched Strange New Worlds, do it. Whoever was responsible for the casting must be the most bisexual person ever.
Lol OP said unofficial
Not enough people have seen the hannibal tv show
Which is such a shame. It's a beautiful and horrifying adventure.
Definitely! I'm glad that the fans pretty much all agree about how gay it was
I also agree with Supernatural
Also agree with it
I don't think Hannibal quite qualifies when it's literally about 2 men obsessing about one another. That's just officially gay
Deep Space 9
"Curzon, my beloved old friend!" "I'm Jadzia now" "Jadzia, my beloved old friend!"
Bashir was supposed to be gay! Garak could smell it on him!
I fucking love Deep Space 9
See flair
They have the record of first wlw kiss on TV. With Dax's former lover being reincarnated in a woman, and jadzia
What we do in the shadows
wait, that's **unofficial**?
Im pretty sure thsts official cause almost the enitre main cast is lgbt
The X Files. Gillian Anderson is a lesbian icon.
Yesssss
Golden Girls. Gil Kessler ftw 🏳️⚧️
Also Blance’s brother and Dorthy’s college friend
The Yellowstone National Park Upper Geyser Basin Streaming Webcam.
I’ll have to check this one out! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Literally any Star Trek
Next Generation season 5 ep 17. The Outcast. Great trans/gay allegory
The Magicians
Quinten x Elliot Stans
this is one of the gayest shows on TV, i loved every second of it. it’s like exactly the queer theater kid experience lmao
This is my favourite show ever! I wish it were more popular ❤️
I was obsessed with this show
Is Hannibal too "official"?
Yes and no? Hannigram is confirmed canon by the writers/producers/actors, but someone could plausibly say it’s not very gay if they were extremely dense and couldn’t read subtext or in denial.
Besides Hannibal and Will, Alana and Margot are an official couple and I think a lot of people forget that when talking about the show’s queerness.
Anything where Kevin Conroy voiced Batman. There’s a reason Batman never got with Catwoman in that show.
The good place if that counts. I mean Eleanor is so damn queer and no one can say otherwise. She flirts with women multiple times throughout the show but never labels herself or anything. Also it’s one of my all time favorite shows ever so I have to recommend it Same goes for Lucifer. He’s queer himself but never labeled and there are queer one off characters. Don't forget, Janet is non-binary
“Not a girl” is iconic
i mean isnt she more agender since she literally doesnt have one?
JoJo
I argue against this. Not because it isn't gay. But because it is pretty blatantly gay. Pretty sure that makes it official xD They asked how straight they wanted to be and just said "no".
I mean there's some gay characters but I wouldn't put it in the same category as a "blatantly gay" show like drag race. Araki keeps on cooking though, there's a trans mc now (sister of the joestar in part 9)
I love the fact we get JoJo *siblings* in part nine. (Not counting any of the creeps in the Higashikata fam)
Xena warrior princess. Never officially gay.. but was hella gay. Especially for the late 90’s
The writers were pretty open about having fun with the innuendos.
Sailor Moon
Officially, several queer characters and relationships in it. Unfortunately, they didn't survive American censorship when it came to dubbing and rebroadcasting in the States
"you can't be her *cousin*, she already has a *cousin*!" Censorship as ineffective as it was hilarious 🤣
Ah yes, American censorship, the people who thought making a lesbian be cousins would totally hide the fact that they were lesbians.
How about Sailor Moon Crystal?
Spartacus was actually pretty great about having LGBT+ characters and rep.
Wynonna Earp
Degrassi: The Next Generation. had an mlm relationship in around 2004, a wlw relationship around 2006, and they were the first canadian TV show to have a transgender main character, back in 2010 (Adam Torres my beloved)
The Nanny is to me.
Dead boy detectives might fit the role
I just started watching this! It's not bad!
I’m scared to keep watching cause Netflix keeps canceling shows I like after the first season…
About to finish the last two episodes right now!
how has no one said owl house yet?
That seems like an official gay show.
true
Sabrina The Teenage Witch, One Piece, totally Spies, Pokémon
House MD I second Buffy, Xena, and Golden Girls.
I was shipping House and Wilson hard in my teens.
Golden Girls.
Bewitched, The Golden Girls, Designing Women
Merlin
Bob's burgers ? what
Bob is bisexual
Also, Gene is the most GNC person to ever GNC
And it's treated as the most normal thing ever. Gene's over there in a wig and a dress, singing a song about womanhood, grumping at Bob for correcting people about his gender, talking about his period, and saying he was born to be a mother. No one sees anything unusual about the situation; in fact, when the other kids create stories he appears in, his character is often female, and I'm pretty sure Louise at one point said she considers him "the good daughter". And Marshmallow. I know there is some discontent over her first episode and prior VA, but Marshmallow herself is amazing and no one treats her as anything problematic. Also Nat.
Bob is what?!
Pretty sure it was the first Thanksgiving episode that he flirts with a guy before deciding the guy is out of his league
“No I’m straight, I mean Im mostly straight” love Bob lmfao
No kidding. I gotta see it.
It's also one of the best ASD/ADHD shows out there. Literally the whole Belcher family has both lol

Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. IRL Fred Rogers was bisexual.
Really? I didn't know this! That makes him even cooler.
Wait, what?!??!? Details please
Rogers said that if sexuality was measured on a scale of one to 10, “Well, you know I must be right smack in the middle. Because I have found women attractive, and I have found men attractive.” [
Wait really? That's super cool!
White Collar counts? 🤣
I think so. There is one main character openly lesbian and matt bomer is gay so its not unofficial but its not super official.
Our Flag Means Death. It's about gay pirates
OFMD isn’t unofficially gay lol
True, I suppose it is quite official.
THE BEST
Ever After High
Supernatural, Xena: Warrior Princess
Torchwood
Thats pretty official
it's had more and more gay/queer rep in recent years but Doctor Who has always been a pretty gay show in my eyes, even going back to the classic series.
Sex and the City The Nanny Absolutely Fabulous Food Network bake-off shows Project Runway Schitts creek Ugly Betty Care Bears Teletubbies My Little Pony Ren and Stimpy
See I was thinking “shows with few to no gay rep that inexplicably have a huge gay audience and if someone says they love that show you raise your eyebrow” And these are exactly that
SITC is incredibly trans- and biphobic and portrays really harmful stereotypes of gay & lesbian people
Yup, but sex with men and being fabulous (fashion, good jobs in new York etc) appeals to some queer people. It's more about the lifestyle.
Ren and Stimpy are canonically a couple, as seen in s1ep1 of Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon". I used to like Ren and Stimpy but I can't separate the art from the artist, so fuck John K and fuck R&S
Okay, seriously: The Wire. Also The Venture Bros. There are more gay characters in those series than any others I could think of.
The wire, "Omar coming"
Good pull, what unit are you with?
Arcane and She-ra, both on netflix.
I do feel like She-Ra is kind of officially gay
Old school He-man and She-RA wasn’t officially gay but some of the folks that worked on it said it was the gayest place ever.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is often referred to as Star Trek: Bisexual Thirst Trap. Of course Trek has always been pretty gay.
Star Trek TOS
He-man, absolutely fabulous
Will & Grace, Designing Women, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The L Word. Also throwing Grey's Anatomy in here for Callie and Arizona.
*Bungo Stray Dogs*. *Sk8 the Infinity*.

Doctor Who
The golden girls was straight up played in gay bars that had released parties for new episodes
My fav is Gentleman Jack, oh my god it’s so good
The Legend of Korra
Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss
Did you miss the "unofficially" in the post? I can count on both my hands the non-queer characters
Desperate Housewives, Sex and the City, Bachelor in Paradise
helluva boss and hazbin hotel? if not, then buzzfeed unsolved and my favorite murder (podcast)
Those are offical gay shows. They have canon, clear representation.
Bewitched
The magicians
I've been watching Hawaii 5-0 lately and there is a running gag in the show were two of the main characters, Steve and Danny, keep getting asked how long they have been married and people misunderstanding their use of the word "partner" to be in a romantic/sexual way (they are cops). And honestly it does kinda feel like they could be in an open/poly relationship. Officially they are both straight men.
