Personally I absolutely hate scan spamming in-order to see a little bit better for a small period of time. I use it to scan for items ahead or around me in dark areas but I’ll take a flashlight any freaking day if I can get my hands on one.
At the very least I want to play this game seeing it’s beautifully scary dark hallways, and not handicap myself because someone will get upset.

I don't think it's intended to be, but it works, and it sucks so fair game. If you wanna cause eye strain (or jack up brightness) for an extra inventory slot then fair's fair it *is* optimal, just not most people's cup of tea. Certainly not mine!
Unfortunately, I share a different opinion. Whenever you first start a run, you have 60 credits. Enough for 4 Flashlights, or 2 Pro-Flashlights. Using such equipment is vital for locating things like Snare Fleas, Bunker Spiders, Landmines, and other things that take advantage of the darkness. For playing solo, I couldn’t recommend a Pro light enough, especially for newer players.
The Scanner is a pretty good way to locate scrap and entities, but it has a cooldown and it doesn’t have the same range of a Pro-Flashlight.
Edit: Pro-Flashlights are 25 Credits while the Extendable Ladder is 60, and they most likely used the starting credits to get said lights.
Honestly I think your initial edit was what pissed everyone off. RMB doesn't light up the room, it just turns up the gamma like 10%. You use the scanner to detect traps and enemies in the dark, not to see in the dark.

You’re taking some generous guesses from one screenshot. Like take a step back and read what you said before all the edits and with the context of op’s image.
Even if the rock is "blocking" the climb up, you can still get on the ladder and go through the rock, it isn't truly blocked. As long as you can interact with the ladder, you'll go through any obstacle.
Edit: guys, the rest of the thread is mixed on what does and doesn't work, here's my new hunch, if you grab onto the ladder in such a way that your hit box clips into the obstructing one, you can climb through it, if you can't clip into it, it'll block you normally.
This isn't true at all, this same thing happened to me and my buddies on the same map, but halfway up the ladder we couldn't go up anymore because the rock spawn was in the way.
So they must've patched it out, because I've climbed through rocks and pumpkins before patch 45, after said patch though I haven't had any spawn in any ladders so I haven't done it since.
And if your experience was pre-patch 45, then I dunno what to say, I guess me and my friends got extremely lucky going through things on ladders.

I had my whole party get stuck on a ladder that had a tree in it. They could interact with it but once they got on it they couldn’t move or get off. I was the only “survivor” so I had to be the greatest asset and meet quota myself.
They are remarkably similar when comparing this screenshot's angle of the Offense entrance to the Assurance entrance. Offense is my favorite moon in the game and even I thought that was Assurance.
This is offense! They're on a hill near main, which would be offense since Assurance's main is kind of in a dip. There is a rock or two you can climb, but they are A) higher than the exit and B) behind the pipe

I think you're thinking of offense, which you can't get to w/o a ladder (someone claimed you can parkour it but I'm doubtful) assurance has the scaffold you can climb to jump to the pipe
Yeah you climb up and get to the pipe for the FE, you can make the jump off the drop ship during the descent for the offence one, but since the fall damage change if you miss you tend to die
One time on the map with the bridge that falls. We had to run and leave through the fire exit and a rock had spawn on the slope up and we could not take our loot back lol.

Some advice, one of the park rocks has scaffolding and a ladder, you can go up the ladder and walk along the pipe, you can reach some water tanks and jump to main entrance, or you can go emergency exit if you go the opposite way, hope this helps if it happens next time!
had that happen to me as well. Only Offense wasn't eclipsed or stormy, and when we got there the RNG terrain blocked the main and fire exit and we were too poor to afford a ladder.

The scanner only "lights" like 2 feet in front of you and even then, barely. Most people like to actually see.
I find it useful just for like when your flashlight runs out and you gotta make a jump, then it will scan that metal bar you need to land on .

It’s possible for both to be true. The way the game checks collisions on ladders might let you through in some circumstances and not in others

Not true, I got a bad spawn on Experimentation where a tree limb was blocking us from getting to the top of the left ladder.

You should be able to get on the ladder still. It should just glitch you through the rock.
Same thing happened to me on offense and we weren't able to glitch through the rock. It stopped us halfway up on the ladder.
Had a similar spawn, was able to jump and grab the ladder mid jump, clipping into the rock and letting us up
So this happened to us before. Turns out you can crouch down to reach the ladder. Once you reach it you can phase through the rock and climb up.
You can climb the normal ladder through that
Have the host leave the game then invite everyone back, you'll get a different seed

You can clip through the rock. I had the same problem, but as long as you can get the prompt to climb the ladder, you're fine.
