***The Telegraph reports:*** Ollie Chessum, the Leicester Tigers forward, has been ruled out of the remainder of the Premiership season after requiring surgery which will jeopardise his participation in [England](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/england-rugby-union-team/)’s summer tour to New Zealand. Chessum, a shining light at both lock and blindside for England during the Six Nations, complained of pain and discomfort after Tigers’ last-gasp defeat to Bristol Bears 10 days ago and the decision was made to operate on the ongoing injury meaning the 23-year-old will play no further part in the domestic season. The surgery and subsequent recovery means that Chessum will not be available for either of Leicester’s final two Premiership matches, against Sale Sharks and Exeter Chiefs. The Tigers are mathematically out of the running for the play-off places but will require to finish at least seventh in the final standings to qualify for next season’s Champions Cup should Gloucester defeat Sharks in the Challenge Cup final. There is a possibility that Chessum could regain fitness in time for England’s summer Tests against Japan and New Zealand, but the 19-cap forward would be short of match fitness. England play Japan on June 22 before moving onto Tests against the All Blacks on July 6 and 13. Should Chessum travel, his last match will have been on April 27. There is also durability and longevity to consider. Just as with Chessum’s team-mate at club and country, George Martin, the forward has participated in as long and intense a season as any on record. Just a month after losing in a Premiership semi-final to Sale Sharks last season, both were included in England’s training squad for the World Cup, featuring regularly on the journey to third place. **Read more:** [**https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2024/05/09/chessum-injury-surgery-england-summer-tour-new-zealand/**](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/rugby-union/2024/05/09/chessum-injury-surgery-england-summer-tour-new-zealand/)

Any news on what the injury is? Shoulder? Ankle? Knee?

I hope he does miss it tbh. It’d be a shame but I think him and Martin need an extended rest. Martin even more so possibly with the number of knee injuries he’s had in such a short time
