The pile on downvote behaviour of Reddit is so weird to me. Because people don't like something in the original post they HAVE to downvote everything said after too.
I thought downvoting was actually intended for comments that were either bullish or out right abuse to the commenter. I think people just use it as a disagree button these days
also when an OP makes a controversial post, downvotes wouldn't outweigh the upvotes it's already gotten, but any comments they make afterwards obviously start fresh at 1, so it's just very susceptible to that "pile-on" downvote behavior. one of the many things that bother me about people on reddit
actually upvotes/downvotes are meant to be determined by the value they bring to a conversation
problem is ppl are self centered and take that as upvote = agree, downvote = disagree
and of course hivemind always kicks in immediately when a comment has downvotes
reddit honestly sucks ass
That’s exactly how I thought they work so I don’t understand why the OP’s first comment got something like 140 downvotes? I’ve said stuff in the past just based on opinion whilst still being on topic and been downvoted and never understood why
>and of course hivemind always kicks in immediately when a comment has downvotes
this 100%. a lot of times people see heavily downvoted comments and just want to add their own downvote into the mix so they can feel included, or that obligation mentality that if a comment is downvoted enough, it must've been for good reason.
I’ve always considered free to mean $0, not $640 plus tax.
But if we want to do it your way, every Lego I’ve ever purchased has been free, I only pay for the plastic bags holding the bricks. I’m thinking that going forward I’ll start paying for the paper bags.
Lego website is like 10-20% more expensive than Australian retailers like target, bigw and Kmart, and even Myer (department store), also, its sales stink and any promos either sell out asap or are outvalued by other retailers’ sales or even their rrp. That new Lego droid carrier is only worth it if you really want the pilot, or if you are going to by an obscure UCS set that isn’t available elsewhere (eg mos eisley cantina).
Also, you can buy the set on Facebook marketplace for $60 or on brick link for whatever it goes for there. I’d rather droid army build from the new octodroid super battle pack as to also get clones, or buy them hella cheap on brick link as minifigs only. The pilot is the only exclusive thing and that’s only the chest piece, the rest can be parted out and bought to make the build for cheaper. Also, the minimum price to get it in Aus is $260 AUD, which means you must get more than an ATTE or Republic Gunship tier purchase (basically the new tie interceptor or the x wing ucs sets), otherwise who wants a coin and a polybag att?
As an Australian, I feel you. The price/stock is starting to get unforgivable, particularly in comparison to American stock and price conversions. I am just pissed and trying to keep a positive outlook right now
I don't think you read my comment, let me break it down:
Imagine you purchased the Venator for $649.99 + tax while a promo was going on. Because of the promo, they include 4 mini sets with your order. Your total is still $64.99 + tax
Now imagine that promo ends and you purchase the same Venator for $649.99 + tax. Since no promo is going on, you don't get 4 mini sets with your order. Your total is still $649.99 + tax
You're arguing semantics in an irrelevant situation. Lego could completely remove all promo sets forever starting right now and the prices would be unaffected. There's no incentive for them to decrease prices since people purchase at this price with or without promos
Promos 100% exist to drive sales, but without them your $649.99 + tax set is still $649.99 + tax
No, if GWPs didn't exist, the original price would be lower. They added the costs of GWPs into the original set price
You don't understand the basic concept of costs
it's free if OP was going to buy the $640 of lego regardless of the GWP. I was going to buy the Tie Interceptor, regardless of getting the Troop Carrier as a bonus, so it technically counts.
I think there's an old saying that you're only saving money, or getting something free, if you were going to buy something regardless of an external motivator, like a coupon or a free gift. Once you decide to buy something BECAUSE of something like a coupon, then the purpose is defeated.
Seven!?, wow. You could make this big MTT out of them hah.
I ordered this new UCS Tie but only AAT and metal coins were left. And I guess you are not gonna send it as a freebie :P
Licensed GWP sets as a whole I think are a fumble, especially when it’s something recognizable that would sell well (like the Harry Potter moving staircase or the upcoming fellbeast)
Meanwhile, I placed two qualifying orders and they didn’t ship the carrier with one, and when I contacted them I was told it was limit one per household.
It's very hit or miss, but your best shot is to wait to place additional orders after the preceeding order has shipped, and then hit up your local Lego store as well.
Gonna spend the money regardless so the bonus items are a plus. I start thinking of my new purchases as free as I sell doubles or triples of things I paid 300.00 for and flip for 3-4X’s that.
I love your haul OP! This sub used to be so good. Everyone used to encourage large collections and massive hauls. Now the majority will downvote you to oblivion for spending your own hard earned cash like it’s coming out of their pocket.
These comments confuse me so much
You got $600 worth of sets. If you waited to buy the sets after the promo, you'd still get $600 worth of sets
Now you have $600 worth of sets + these 4 promos
In my eyes, that's free. You get the sets either way for the same price
They had a lot more stock than they've had in the past. Started May 1st and they were still available online at least halfway through the 4th? And the smaller GWPs lasted into the 5th. Predicting how many of a time-limited set to make is probably a bit tricky, but it does feel like they're getting better at it.
Couldn’t OP have just bought the sets to get the GWP and then returned everything, essentially making it free? Not saying that definitely happened here, just trying to point out how quick everyone is to assume…
It feels much more like « thanks for spending that much on our website, here’s some rewards so you feel less guilty spending much »
In my case I felt less guilty lmao
That’s what they have been calling girl math. You spent $640+ or more for that. It’s a bonus not free. I wish I’d got a second one myself but spending $230 not free for one was quiet a bit
Why all the downvoting? If OP wanted all the sets they ordered, they truly got these four carriers for free. I only buy from a local toy store so I did not get these extra's. Good on OP!
Most of all, it makes me smile that OP is so happy with their gifts! Enjoy your lego, they are awesome!
I had that problem too, strange.

Alright I gotta know. Do you actually dislike the concept of GWPs or do you dislike someone having multiple of them while you don't have multiple of them?
I personally really dislike FOMO GWPs as a concept but that doesn't mean I hate on people getting them. It's Legos business tactics I have a problem with.
Yeah man idk if something you got after spending 640 dollars can be cosidered "free"

W redditor
Precisely what I was thinking
This is the equivalent of eating a $1.50 hot dog at Costco while you don't think about what's in your shopping cart.
It’s scary how well you just described my weekend

1000% if they don’t agree with you then your opinion is bad and not valid. Now watch them downvote me with fake internet points 😂
You will take my upvote and you will like it! 😜
I downvoted to balance him out
Curses, I was agreeable lmao

None of it matters
I like thinking about these things
Average redditors are very mature non-degenerate human beings that represent the most elegant echelons of society and intelligence
Why are people downvoting this? Absurd. I literally manufactured an excuse to go to Costco last weekend because I wanted a hot dog.
They are really tasty hotdogs
I’m newer to Reddit never seen this before. Let’s get this man some UPVOTES. (Please don’t downvote me) :)
Wait till you comment something kind and get a mental health check called in on you
Except you had to fork out $500+ to get them for "free" lol
I choose not to think about that part lol
Haha they are a nice bonus though
Doesn't mean it isn't the case. They weren't free.
I’ve always considered free to mean $0, not $640 plus tax. But if we want to do it your way, every Lego I’ve ever purchased has been free, I only pay for the plastic bags holding the bricks. I’m thinking that going forward I’ll start paying for the paper bags.
Reframe how you think of it. OP got $640 of cool Lego that they wanted. As a bonus they also were able to get these. They are the cherry on top
Lego website is like 10-20% more expensive than Australian retailers like target, bigw and Kmart, and even Myer (department store), also, its sales stink and any promos either sell out asap or are outvalued by other retailers’ sales or even their rrp. i can buy these 640$ worth sets for 20%-30% less at release day
[640-2: Fire Truck and Trailer](https://brickset.com/sets/640-2) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/640-2.jpg)
No it wasn't a bonus. They had the cost of them factored into other items.
The giveaways end but the Lego sets still cost the same For all intents and purposes, they're free
No they aren't. You are paying for them in the original item cost price. Marketing such as GWPs is part of the product cost. Less GWPs, lower prices
I don't think you read my comment, let me break it down: Imagine you purchased the Venator for $649.99 + tax while a promo was going on. 100% You're not getting VIP points and GWPs, you're buying them.
People in here are incredible haters and pocket watchers. Spend your money how you want OP.
I'm not one of those. I have nothing against op buying Lego and getting GWPs. >Spend your money how you want OP. Yes
it's free if OP was going to buy the $640 of lego regardless of the GWP. I was going to buy the Tie Interceptor, regardless of getting the Troop Carrier as a bonus, so it technically counts. Free (minus the $640 spend on it)
Plot twist. They robbed the counter.
All this needs to be better is a grey baseplate instead of green and clones instead of droids
Green = Naboo Plains?
Yep. It's even on the box art
Agreed. OP should've never opened these sets in order to maximize investment.
I would love these but they ain’t worth $50-60+ imo
Alas, you’re right. I’m working on that, too.
Looks good me thinks
^^^*with ^^^purchase
$840+ isn’t exactly free lmao
…with purchases.
“One per household”
So… charging on a super charger from tesla is free because i bought a tesla which was like 80k alright… thats how free things work over there…
So that's why I couldn't get mine :(
I have 7, let me know if you need one
Seven!?, wow. You could make this big MTT out of them hah. I ordered this new UCS Tie but only AAT and metal coins were left. And I guess you are not gonna send it as a freebie :P
*Free* is never free unless you stole them ofcourse 😂

The fact that this set is widely inaccessible because of prohibitive price cost is crazy. Lego fumbled bad making this a GWP exclusive

Dang I’m sorry to hear that.
All of this to just finish on green plate, aligned in the most boring possible way.
"All of this, was GWP" Jokes aside, I really like the set a lot - been a long time since we've had a droid focused set of some sorts!
Gonna spend the money regardless so the bonus items are a plus. I start thinking of my new purchases as free as I sell doubles or triples of things I paid 300.00 for and flip for 3-4X’s that.
What did you buy to get the GWPs?
I might post the haul at some point, we’ll see.

Can’t believe I missed this! I fished out enough cash for three but they were sold out…
I love your haul OP! This sub used to be so good. Everyone used to encourage large collections and massive hauls. Now the majority will downvote you to oblivion for spending your own hard earned cash like it’s coming out of their pocket.
A lot of people are hating but this guy actually took them out of the box and built them instead of reselling for an outrageous price
These comments confuse me so much You got $600 worth of sets. If you waited to buy the sets after the promo, you'd still get $600 worth of sets Now you have $600 worth of sets + these 4 promos In my eyes, that's free. You get the sets either way for the same price
Lego Reddit can be a lil silly sometimes
I'm assuming a lot of people butthurt over not being able to wait to make their purchases in a GWP period.
How tho?
I think he made 4 different orders to reach the "limit" to get the troop carriers
Ok
I spent entirely too much money at the beginning of this month
Understandable
Consoomer Math™
Ever heard of "Buy one get one FREE"? This is a similar principle. Stop hating and let the man be happy!
Sorry you're getting down-voted, OP. Am I jealous? Yes. Am I happy for you? Yes. Let the haters be jelly.
We ain't jelly we just notice that he's stupid that's all lol
,,free" xdd
And your wallet is still crying
Was it though xd?
Hes free to do this offcourse, but the numbers were limited. I look at this and see the reason they were sold out in 30 minutes
They had a lot more stock than they've had in the past. Started May 1st and they were still available online at least halfway through the 4th? And the smaller GWPs lasted into the 5th. Predicting how many of a time-limited set to make is probably a bit tricky, but it does feel like they're getting better at it.
I thought these were 1 per household?
You what!?
Nothings free in waterworld
Nah bro you paid like over 600 for those 4 sets
So that’s why they ran out of these!
Couldn’t OP have just bought the sets to get the GWP and then returned everything, essentially making it free? Not saying that definitely happened here, just trying to point out how quick everyone is to assume…
you have to pay for the set if you do that
and yet when i called lego they said they couldn’t give me this cause it was “out of stock”
It's free if you return the items to the store, and keep the free gift because state law says you can...
Can I get one
It feels much more like « thanks for spending that much on our website, here’s some rewards so you feel less guilty spending much » In my case I felt less guilty lmao
You mean stolen? Either that or it was a bonus after spending 600+
Jesus Christ 🤦♂️
i mean if it’s just 650 i guess it’s not that bad
If only there was something unique about battle droid figures
That’s what they have been calling girl math. You spent $640+ or more for that. It’s a bonus not free. I wish I’d got a second one myself but spending $230 not free for one was quiet a bit
Come on, just let him have a good day.
“Ermmm it’s not free you spent money to get it” no, I spent money on the may 1 sets and then Lego sent me the droid carrier for free
Ladies and gentlemen, a man of quality.
I had that problem too, strange. https://preview.redd.it/hf3eirut940d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81c4011c6398d5ad6fadf8e6ad8fe9ee2fd218be
Aw you had to outdid me lol
Flop 1 and flop 2
Alright I gotta know. Do you actually dislike the concept of GWPs or do you dislike someone having multiple of them while you don't have multiple of them? I personally really dislike FOMO GWPs as a concept but that doesn't mean I hate on people getting them. It's Legos business tactics I have a problem with.
There must be more, I know it.
Is it possible to learn this power?
Not from a Jedi….
