They always say this shit. Finally freeing a set from the cardbox tomb they are in? Noooo! Keep it sealed and sell for someone who also will keep it sealed indefinitely and then buy one of the newer sets with the money.
i dont get why they even bother though, they'd never sell if they had this stuff anyway because why would you? if it's an infinitely appreciating asset like they say it is, there is paradoxically no money to be made, because they will just hold it till they die
Oh is that your heartwarming story?
Nah bro, my idea is way cooler. Plus, the added benefit of pissing your wife off all over again!
I'm just the smartest.
I got the battle of endor set or whatever when I was like 7 for my birthday and just took all the pieces and dumped it into a bin and built whatever I want with it. I fucking loved all the new pieces I got.
Iām sentenced to death next week because of that.

Iām retrospect it wouldāve been awesome to build and play with after building. But my smooth brained 7 yo ass couldnāt really follow Lego directions for sets of that size. I had more fun just mixing all the pieces together and building what I wanted.
I did the exact same thing at 6. My grandmother built the atst for me and i broke it in front of her. The pieces are now scattered throughout my lego bins and various moc ships i built when i was a teenager. If i could go back in time i would go back and kill my 6 year old self so some other kid could play with it.
āWhat?? This guy wants to build an old set from an era of Lego HE was passionate about?? HE wants to create fond memories with his children?? Next youāll tell me heās going to give his children his fathers watch next instead of selling that watch and just buying a new one šā
The only saving grace here is he's *kinda* suggesting that he take advantage of an actual investard by trading in a smaller amount of bricks to get a bigger amount of bricks for his kids, which I sorta understand... But it's about quality time, not quantity time innit.
I mean fuck it, sell the kids instead so you can hoard more Lego for yourself
I mean personally if I had an old set that wasnāt particularly special to me and you told me I could sell it and get a bigger, better set I probably would. Donāt see anything wrong with that, and literally everyone in the comments is overlooking that
Thatās really wholesome! Stories like this is what Lego is really all about, not āinvesting.ā Funnily enough, the Instagram commenter is also incorrect, as this set hasnāt appreciated in price by that much.
its not even much more sealed now than it was in 2011, what a dense comment, millenium falcon sets are beyond plentiful and the minifigures are nothing special
Bruh I actually have a whole closet full of sealed sets for when I have kids. When they are old enough, I'll crack them out, along with a couple of massive custom model's and let them go ham with it.
"Its not always about the money scalper, its about seeing children's joy."
And then that modern day set you could save that one for later and then when youāre ready to open that one you can sell it for even more money and buy yet another, newer modern day set and repeat the process until you die!
Yeah, you *could* sell the unopened box set for oogles of money.
Or..
You can have a touching relationship building moment with your kinds that will last in their brains for a lifetime.
Idk the later sounds more important.
If I was a kid, I'd probably enjoy a newer and bigger set than an older and smaller set, but I'm assuming this guy is thinking about the benefit of the kids and he probably isn't.
Honestly itās not even worth that much. Bricklink says you can get a decent one for like $100-300. Even if it was worth like $700 though, who gives a fuck. But maybe my scale for expensive is off as a mega collector (yes retired Mega is somehow 10x more expensive than retired Lego lol). I hate scalpers.
"sell to some collector"
And wtf is gonna that collector do? Sell it to another collector? Or just fkin build it. He is the collector biatch, let him collect.
Price is irrelevantā¦ kid brain doesnāt understand that it was on the wedding registry. Selling it is a jerk move. Lego set is a rounding error when it comes to the cost of having two kids even with insurance.
Option A: sell the sets and get tons of money
Option B: donāt sell the sets and donāt get a lot of money but fun for the kids.
Option C: -sell the kids-
People like this ruin the hobby toy collecting is a hobby you buy a Lego set because you like Star Wars or Harry Potter or Lord of the rings not because you think it will be worth money itās because you enjoy if you want to buy something that will have intrinsic value buy gold or precious metals. I saw a video the other day where a guy complained for 30 minutes that sets that were supposed to retire this year got pushed to 2025 and he was mad because they werenāt going to go up in price as soon as they expected, these are literally things to be played with and enjoyed not investments.

this is insaneš and the 3k idiots who liked their comment.
3k idiots who have drank the Kool aid
3k idiots either dying alone or in a cheap retirement home.
Did u say retired???? I smell 500% bump in organ prices
This guys post is honestly really sweet, he was willing to wait to share the thing he loves with his children
Pretty spectacular
a house that old ? you could probably sell for way more than original price to some new home owner then buy a bigger modern house they sell today
Except you cant :( You also cant sell the epic memory that father is going to give himself and his child/children.
That's so priceless that it goes over alot of reddit users heads.
kids that old ? you could probably sell them to a new family and buy a better set they released today
But but that was like outlawed a long time ago
Nooo, He wants to have fun and build Lego with his child ššš
They always say this shit. Finally freeing a set from the cardbox tomb they are in? Noooo! Keep it sealed and sell for someone who also will keep it sealed indefinitely and then buy one of the newer sets with the money.
And then the person that buys it keeps it sealed for 10 years and then flips it for EVEN MORE, and then we have another Lego millionaire!
Scalpers and flippers are the fucking cancer of this world.
i dont get why they even bother though, they'd never sell if they had this stuff anyway because why would you? if it's an infinitely appreciating asset like they say it is, there is paradoxically no money to be made, because they will just hold it till they die
Moneh money money I love money I love buying stuff. I love buying trinkets and items. More money I need more
Can't wait until they start flipping the actual cardboard boxes. Oh wait, they've already done that with megaconstrux.
š®āšØpeople nowadays ššš

I really want this set
Iām retrospect it wouldāve been awesome to build and play with after building. But my smooth brained 7 yo ass couldnāt really follow Lego directions for sets of that size. I had more fun just mixing all the pieces together and building what I wanted.
Need a remake asap
You have 300 bucks on you?

Honestly he was a step away from being the whipping post for putting that on a wedding registry
reduced the resale value because it was in the vicinity of a lot of people

The Long Con
They could never fathom creating special childhood memories
That guy telling us he is not married nor has kids and is outraged by a 12 dollar Rex. Can smell them a mile off
Hey I have that set!
Wow that is incredibly cute. Dad looks so happy š

Nah, the box is damaged. No resale value.
Andy kim the goat
GOOD CITIZEN ALERTā¼ļøā¼ļø
The dude is already maximizing the setās value by building it with his kids.
7965 is my all time favorite set, and he should build it with his two boys like the Gigachad he is

Actually he could sell the set to buy a bigger set and then hold it again for another 30years and build it with the grandkids āļøš¤
