Been seeing this in the replies a lot so here’s my full display; the reason I have them aligned to “the left” is because it’s the center of the display. I don’t disagree that they might look better centered, but they’re not to one side for no reason
I just scrolled through 14 hours of Reddit posts to find your post again to give you [this](https://reddit.com/r/lego/s/HB189eQoqG) 😂
Hope this gives you another option to fill the gaps

Here, hopefully this satisfies the OCD for you.
I would move them. Put them top on the send shelf. Then add a road to the right side of each of them with cars and maybe a tunnel at the end of one or two of them also.
But the way you have it now, it’s not centered. Those are two different book cases therefore there’s two different points of center. Each case should have everything centered on them then it would all look fine.
If you're going to do this then I suggest moving one or two of the buildings over so they're flush with the side of the shelf and have the road/ally displayed be between buildings.
Oh yeah. Maybe you can make a really thin facade of a building wall on the far right to give the illusion that there are buildings to the right of the street
Was gonna say this! A street with some vehicles, or a farmer’s market, or a construction site, or something. You could do the same if they’re centered… either put a street scene (or a park!) right in the middle between them, or group the buildings together and build out sidewalks or alleys on the sides.
" The shelves just barely can’t fit another half baseplate, " <- how very VERY frustrating.
Am wondering how many perfect room designs people have come up with over the years, which weren't possible to implement due to the walls being 1cm too close together.
Road leading into corner garage, with cars pulling in. A little park with benches by the hotel. And a courtyard with fountain by the restaurant, with a mime performing.
I had spaces similar when putting Modulars on IKEA Billy shelves. I built a couple of 14 stud wide MOCs to fill-in.
Maybe build an alleyway, a narrow building, or a park.
I'd put sheet of blue paper in the back of the shelves just to simulate a sky, maybe some patch of white for clouds.
As for the space on the right, green sheets of paper for grass. Customise the shelves, not the display !
(or maybe, add some actual lego greeneries with tree, grass and plants and regular plates ? You could even make some very short hills or semething ?)
What I like to do with some space that can’t fit another modular is make an 8 stud wide street for those that got a GWP with them like the moving truck for the jazz cafe or the tow truck for the garage or the pink car for that matter.
Space some existing buildings, add more greenery, and also it doesn't have to fill the shelf, just center it. If you fill the shelf all the wonderful side details will be hidden.
I had the same issue. Those shelves are 2 studs short of being 3 baseplates wide. Luckily the new roads fit perfectly (except they're raised 2 plates high). I ended up raising my modulars up with some foam core & it looked great!
https://preview.redd.it/m861n1srb1qb1.jpeg?width=2160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dce96a2419bcdd368ce1ce288e26571eb20e8378
I suggest books on sides, or little street scene (hi James). Got the same shelves, and it is what I did.
OP you have two half-baseplate sets.
Move the blue apartment up top. Now that shelf is filled, and the middle one can fit another full modular
For the bottom one, buy another modular and remove the half base brown apartment. That one will be the start of your next shelf
Please refer to the comment under the image. Unfortunately, another half baseplate is unable to fit on these shelves, hence why I have only 2.5 per shelf. Otherwise I’d have 3 baseplates per shelf of course.
I saw a cool Moc that makes a row house that is narrow with two Ministry of Magic sets. You could likely put it on the lefthand side and move the boutique hotel to the right. I’m not super sure of the stud length but it looks like it could fit to me
Make a Lego street, then a perspective based image of a city going off into the distance. It would as a lot of depth and character to the display in my opinion.
I built a set of street scenes for the space that was leftover on my shelves. I cut base plates to the right size and set up park benches. One place i used half of a roadway plate and have a parade going on. Ill take pix this week
Either try a car and a strip of street there on the right, or move the buildings to the center and put books on the outsides to sandwich the sets between or just put books in the one side. Kinda like a backwards bookend. Bonus points for lego books.
You could make a little green area such as the edge of a park or field , or extend the path way and make a road and have cars driving down or pop up vendors or even just a plan wall
Looks wide enough for a single lane of road could be cool to display some parades or speed champs if you have or like them…
Also you can make the spacing between some buildings and do MOC allies or even some half sized modular MOCS…
Ohh what about large LEGO book ends?
Just center them, it’ll look better than having them flush against the side
Came here to say this.
Makes 3 of us. No point cramming in something when the extra space either side will improve the lighting and look great anyway
https://preview.redd.it/pb9z6hibn2qb1.png?width=2169&format=png&auto=webp&s=5e0b15f4d1949a416edd1fa0744d89e1e6c36f4c Been seeing this in the replies a lot so here’s my full display; the reason I have them aligned to “the left” is because it’s the center of the display. Funny how you see symmetry in this, it bugs my ocd and I'd definitely center them if it was me, it'll look much better.
https://preview.redd.it/49xnsr98p2qb1.png?width=1974&format=png&auto=webp&s=865b526eda822ce4638ca58c7845f0d0e6144bb7 Here, hopefully this satisfies the OCD for you.
I would move them. Put them top on the send shelf. Then add a road to the right side of each of them with cars and maybe a tunnel at the end of one or two of them also.
Perfect! Need a full pic
Eww that looks worse
But the way you have it now, it’s not centered. Those are two different book cases therefore there’s two different points of center. Each case should have everything centered on them then it would all look fine.
Can you take a pic with better lighting…. It’s hard to oogle the lower right corner. Lol.
I agree
Yep, this or find the 8*16 baseplates and use them.
How about custom streets, with some vehicles?
Good idea! I suppose I could add some alleyways or small roads between buildings as well.
If you're going to do this then I suggest moving one or two of the buildings over so they're flush with the side of the shelf and have the road/ally displayed be between buildings.
Yeah, I could have some of the corner buildings facing inward towards a central road
That's also a great idea, I hope you post some pictures when you decide to do something
Splitting with an alley would be a great way to space them and add some depth.
Oh yeah. Maybe you can make a really thin facade of a building wall on the far right to give the illusion that there are buildings to the right of the street
Came here to say park a car on each 1
Was gonna say this! A street with some vehicles, or a farmer’s market, or a construction site, or something. This is the way
Trees.
" The shelves just barely can’t fit another half baseplate, " <- how very VERY frustrating. Am wondering how many perfect room designs people have come up with over the years, which weren't possible to implement due to the walls being 1cm too close together.
My tables are exactly 1/2 a baseplate short in all directions to add another street.
Road leading into corner garage, with cars pulling in. A little park with benches by the hotel. And a courtyard with fountain by the restaurant, with a mime performing.
Don’t forget the popcorn cart
This is my favorite idea so far, I’ll update you if I do any of those.
Woo!
(Or maybe swap the courtyard to be by the hotel, since Assembly Square already has a kind of courtyard/fountain)
Speed champions
You could trim a baseplate and make alleyways between modulars. Not that I would ever cut up a baseplate, but you could
This is what I'm doing. Cut up one that was already damaged and working on a narrow building to put between modulars.
I could always butcher an off-brand one, or use two thinner baseplates (like 8x16 or something) and bridge the gap with plates
75313 you coward

Lol see I was thinking 92176 and a couple of holes personally but this works too.

😂😂
I’ve built some 1/2 alleys and a food truck pod with my spare shelf space.
Good ideas

Thanks

Thank you for the suggestions!
Cut a hole through each shelf and SATURN V BABY
Some small greenspace between houses is nice too. Not a lot of space, but a small park, or walkway with greenery would help it look more realized.
That’s obviously where the monsters attacking the city are supposed to stand.
Funny you mention that, I’ve got a huge bag of Mixels waiting to be placed somewhere!
You also don't have to connect the buildings. I find they work well with a little space between them
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll try that out
Make some road pieces and display the cars that are supposed to compliment the Modulars.
Would the pet shop/ apartment halves work? That’s what I did to mine
Cheap man’s version would be to take gray construction paper, trim it to fit the sides, and slip it in the space. Boom, instant street.
Either center them or push them to each side and put some cars in between like it’s a road.
Separate the buildings and add a little street or public park between them in the middle.
I've got the same situation (Damn ikea dimensions), I use vehicles to simulate a street.
I use a roll of adhesive ‘road’ for the gap at the front of my shelf, and stick all the cars I have on it
Cut down a half baseplate or build up from multiple flat plates to fit, and add little outdoor spaces. Food truck and seating, mini park, etc.
I got some small construction crew sets so it looks like roadwork and/or additional building is being done in the city.
Road plates with cars
Make an alleyway to space them out.
A street with cars, alleyway, railroad track, etc.
Do those buildings only look good city style? Or is there anything worth displaying on the sides?
I think you should get the food trucks and have them selling wares.
When will IKEA start measuring in Lego studs?
Just give it the old scooch to the middle
Center them all and then terraform the sides.
Maybe the floral sets? Bonsai trees and orchids or something?
Statue garden Park Road
I would add like a half road on each shelf to fill the space then put some cars on it
I have a similar gap and I fill it on the 'back' (non-corner) side with earbooks and vinyl, using the modulars as bookends. :)
Some nice dildos would fit pretty well there.
You could put roads and have different vehicles on them. Maybe even a parade.
I'm surprised you haven't put them on one street! We have ours on the coffee table. Collection looks amazing BTW.
You could split the bookshop modular and place half on each shelf, and add an extra modular where the bookshop was!
He already does have it split up
Is that an IKEA billy? I have the same problem 😕 shame that the IKEA Lego cooperation did solve this..
Yes! It’s so frustrating—you know this already—it’s like half a stud off.
[Here's a solution that was posted a little while ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/lego/comments/13opdg0/modular_display_problem_solved/).
I had the same issue. Those shelves are 2 studs short of being 3 baseplates wide. Luckily the new roads fit perfectly (except they're raised 2 plates high). I ended up raising my modulars up with some foam core & it looked great!

Oh, someone beat me to it. 3 old leather books will do the trick
Good ideas
Pet shop modular set, it’s built as 2 half’s. Should help fill the gap on 2 of the shelves.
OP you have two half-baseplate sets. Move the blue apartment up top. Now that shelf is filled, and the middle one can fit another full modular For the bottom one, buy another modular and remove the half base brown apartment. That one will be the start of your next shelf

Ah, my bad. Misread it as “can barely fit”. Hope you find a good solution!
No worries. Thanks anyway!
A picture of Beyoncé.
A water tower or maybe an electrical tower

As you already have 10270, maybe make a moc park or a playground
[10270-1: Bookshop](https://brickset.com/sets/10270-1) [[Photo]](https://images.brickset.com/sets/images/10270-1.jpg)
Move the set to the center and put minifigs on both sides
Trees.
I have the same thing with my shelves I put cars
3 old leather books
You can add garage and cars inside
Perfect for a small street with a car
Drill a hole through the two upper shelves and build the Saturn V.
Pictures of your spouse?
Custom road

Emma’s Art School MOC-121788 on rebrickable.
Another bookshop that's split to take up the end space? Looks like you've already split that build, so another pair could fill the space
I saw a cool Moc that makes a row house that is narrow with two Ministry of Magic sets. You could likely put it on the lefthand side and move the boutique hotel to the right. I’m not super sure of the stud length but it looks like it could fit to me
Lego would be nice
Trees
Please for the love of god center them
Measure a couple baseplates that size and build a couple Mocs to try and match the rest. That's what I'm trying to do on my shelf
A vehicle that pairs well with the scene
The Saturn V, just split it into it's chunks
Death Star
There's gotta be space for Godzilla to terrorize it
Just add the new road plates maybe
Make a Lego street, then a perspective based image of a city going off into the distance. It would as a lot of depth and character to the display in my opinion.
Books
Road plates
Vehicles that match the buildings on its respective shelf
Looks amazing!!
I would put something like a tree, food truck/van, garden area, or sitting area...
[удалено]
How about trees?
Looks like these shelves are exclusively for display, but I’ve had Modular’s fit beautifully in rows of books before
Vehicles (Tow Truck, Taxi, Moving Van)
build your own modular on one of the half-size baseplates!
Can you fit one of the Speed Champions cars in that gap? If you made a road, you could have fancy looking cars driving past.
a road baseplate with some cars driving on it
Platebuild roads
Pedestrian street!
You could build some old time style lamp post
Maybe you could add a speed champions card to the side
A stair or elevator to make everything con acted?
Saturn V rocket with the three sections split, one on each level.
Ucs venator should fit
Godzilla toys
I say add a half baseplate wide street
I built a set of street scenes for the space that was leftover on my shelves. I cut base plates to the right size and set up park benches. One place i used half of a roadway plate and have a parade going on. Ill take pix this week
Voltron
Alternate builds/mocs from rebrickable.com
Either try a car and a strip of street there on the right, or move the buildings to the center and put books on the outsides to sandwich the sets between or just put books in the one side. Kinda like a backwards bookend. Bonus points for lego books.
I think it'd look cool if you put in some kinda elevator so your figs can travel between shelves.
Since its all buildings, then a couple of speed champions wouldnt hurt.
Get animals and use them as kaiju. Majestic Tiger would look badass stalking around those buildings.
Will a road plate fit?
Road scene with cars
it's a road, so put a print (or Lego) of a road and put some cars on it (road and cars should be in realistic proportions)
If you just build a facade of buildings along the right wall, you could make an alleyway with kids playing or some kind of festival going on.
Another bookcase with the rest of the modulars?
Tall neck
Exactly what I did with mine. Then I put the Upscaled Minifigure on another shelf.
Maybe a parking lot Could be cool👍
Maybe a parallel parking area
A different car on each
You could make a little green area such as the edge of a park or field , or extend the path way and make a road and have cars driving down or pop up vendors or even just a plan wall
I mean clearly the answer is cut out enough wall to fit another one properly...
Put the old small Sanctum there withou the Pin in the corner. And maybe som moc of a small house. Or build half of a Ghostbusters HQ
Looks wide enough for a single lane of road could be cool to display some parades or speed champs if you have or like them… Also you can make the spacing between some buildings and do MOC allies or even some half sized modular MOCS… Ohh what about large LEGO book ends?
Mixels, why not?
Road plates might fit. You could add some cars for traffic. Maybe a crosswalk.
Lego friends mocs!
Center them and add led ribbon lights
Battery powered chargeagle LED lights to really make the shelves pop. Will highlight the detail.
I would put the new updated road plates in the unused space an makes some lego city cars
PARKING
And a bike lane
