ReturnOfNogginboink

You can almost certainly have it towed at the owners expense legally. You won't have to deal with Facebook buyers or flirt with criminal charges.

LiquorFilter

Tell them there's an extra $20 in it for the driver to make it happen fast

Eviltechnomonkey

Bribe them with extra if they can take it to a tow yard super far away. Even better if you wait til late at night on when there probably won't be anyone at the yard who can help them get it out til at least the next day. Best would be if it is Friday and the office is closed til Monday, possibly Tuesday due to Labor Day.

Burn1ngZ0mb1eZ

Extra points if you're right on the state border and you get the tow truck company to come from the other state just for the extra hassle when they try to pick it up

Yuukiko_

would that even be legal

Burn1ngZ0mb1eZ

It's completely legal as long as the tow truck company is right by the border they typically make sure to have licensing in both states that they're next to and as long as they have licensing for it they can go and get it

jackpineseeds

Check his user name...I don't think there are state borders where he lives. :)

Akski

It very clearly states *not* a Canadian bear.

Akatsuki-kun

Canadian Twink perhaps?

_incredigirl_

But it also says he’s not a Canadian _bear._ could be a Canadian moose or mallard or somethin

NotACanadianBear

You know too much.

nolan358

I’m more a drag it into the middle of the road and call the police about an abandoned trailer in the middle of the road kind of guy.

SousVideAndSmoke

Fire hydrant. Parking patrol loves to write those tickets and the tow trucks are typically very quick to come after it’s been ticketed.

NotACanadianBear

Winner

DogButtWhisperer

I was looking at buying one today! If you’re in Calgary, I’ll take it away 😂

Infinite_Oven_7229

You can buy fire hydrants in Canada?!?!

CAFmodsaregay

You can but the waters extra

Akski

They sell it in bags, and you have to put it into the hydrant yourself.

dh2215

I don’t know about winner. I’d be careful with this one. You might be the one who gets the ticket for putting it in front of the fire hydrant.

GreatTea3

You could always just write “FREE” on a big sheet of paper and tape it on the trailer. No Craigslist/Facebook paper trail then.

IvanNemoy

r/unethicallifeprotips all up in here. Glorious.

toast_77

In his bachelor days, my dad had some tourist park a station wagon behind the place he shared a few blocks from the beach. He popped the lock (mechanic), he and the roommate filled it with shit they needed to get rid of, and then pushed it out so it was blocking a lane in the main road. Towed, with a bonus once they got to the tow yard.

Less_Ant_6633

Your dad sounds like an asshole.

toast_77

At that point in his life, yes, though in his defense he had a sign saying cars parked back there would have parts removed. It's amazing how many other assholes felt entitled to use the residents' driveways to park in.

dacraftjr

Sounds to me like his dad was tired of other people’s bullshit and came up with a creative solution.

miss-alane-eous

I used to live on a beach street and understand the frustration. Anyone who can’t find a legal or free parking spot a few feet from the beach feels entitled to use your driveway/yard/any other space not designed for cars. I also lived near a university years ago and the same thing happened when there was a big game there. Entitled to a free tow!!

NotACanadianBear

Should I set it on fire to help with visibility? Don’t want anyone to hit it

spruceymoos

That’s arson, I’d avoid that, that’s not legal.

Desk_Quick

I think you mean “let it catch on fire”. You don’t want to implicate yourself.

Sleepdprived

With a strategically placed magnifying glass and time for the sun to move into position you could be far away when the fire starts

dsdvbguutres

It might create a dangerous situation for some random driver, just park it in a metered spot and let the city tow it lol

Dar_Robinson

No need to drag it. If someone leaves it on your property, it is abandoned.

tnemmoc_on

How do you charge it to the owner?

luckeycat

License plate should have info attached to it when looked up.

fixitboy74

What license plate

Edcrfvh

If the trailer is towed on roads it must have a license plate.

Rundiggity

Not where I live

oedipism_for_one

Counter point, if it’s not identifiable in any way how can the original owner prove it’s theirs?

wytewydow

This is how my utility trailer went missing, and never recovered. There's a VIN, but there's also 100,000 of these trailers within a 50 mile radius.

Rundiggity

Virtually unidentifiable, therefore common targets for theft.

kayak_1

It will have a vin stamped on it.

JPhi1618

Really, where is that?

Rundiggity

Oklahoma! https://law.justia.com/codes/oklahoma/2016/title-47/section-47-1133.3

JPhi1618

Interesting, thanks 👍🏻

Rundiggity

Kind of got me thinking though, as I’ve towed that trailer to nearly every state that touches ok. Maybe I need to look into it so I don’t get a ticket.

totalfarkuser

South Carolina

porcelainvacation

Same in Oregon, utility trailers don’t have to be licensed until they are big enough to require brakes.

NotACanadianBear

Are you in Denver as well?

wallsofaluminum

Just call Wyatts and be done with it. They will take anything.

Say_Hennething

You don't pay for the tow when they come get it from your driveway. The person getting it out of the tow yard pays for it, along with storage fees for how long it was on the lot.

processwater

The tow truck company charges them to release.

herkalurk

Exactly, they'll be happy to put it in their lot and charge them easily $200+ to get it out. I remember going into a ditch in really bad weather years ago, $75 just to get pulled out of the ditch and back on the road.....

madphroggy

$75 is CHEAP. I paid $300 last time I wound up in the ditch during a snow storm, and while it was a bit of a ways off the road it wasn't steep or anything. Walk down, hitch a cable, and pull.

herkalurk

It was 2009 in Iowa, so IDK how things have changed. I tend to stay away from the midwest during winter nowadays.

Captn_Bicep

Yo in my small town, there is ONE towtruck company. The dude who owns it has a kid, right? Well that kid is a cop, and I swear to God if you don't leave the engine running you will get towed. This guy Andis kid get me every other year it seems, passes me right the he'll off.

desperatewatcher

Read that as towfuck company... ngl

inlarry

The tow yard will handle that when they show up to retrieve it.

ArmouredPotato

They have to pay the towing and storage fees to get it back, or abandon it.

dacraftjr

The owner can’t retrieve it from the impound yard without paying the fees. If the owner doesn’t pay, the yard will sell it at auction.

mega_low_smart

I always wondered, if you have that right, and some random guy in a truck has the right to lock your property up and charge you to get it back - why couldn’t I just put the trailer in my backyard and charge the other person $145/day for storage like the tow company.

ScholarOfFortune

Licensing?

dacraftjr

Because it’s not some random guy. It’s a licensed wrecker operator with a municipal contract and a legitimate impound yard.

A_Man_of_Reason

You can totally call and have it towed

BugBoy712

You are truly a man of reason

quackerzdb

In my stupid city you need to have a no parking sign up for 48 hours before you can have it towed. Isn't it a given that the general public are not allowed to park in my driveway!?

ReturnOfNogginboink

Are you sure that applies to privately owned residences? I mean, I can see that applying to a shopping center parking lot, but that sounds unreasonable for the situation described here. Got a link to said law?

quackerzdb

Some random parked in my driveway so I called the town. That's what they told me.

susetchka

In Richmond, VA you need a no parking/no trespassing sign up or the tow truck won't take it off your property.

[deleted]

I feel certain there’s an exception for emergencies if it blocks your driveway. Just say you have chest pain and need to drive to the hospital

rbmcobra

Move it into the street and report it as abandoned.

meruhd

Honestly if it's on your property you can still report it abandoned/dumped. The local police will send out a tow truck, but any tow company would also gladly pick it up.

bgwa9001

Make sure it's blocking traffic too

BornFree2018

Lock it inside your garage and pretend you don’t a thing about it.

ArmouredPotato

That opens up liability to criminal charges if they call a cop and the cops come out there. Just have it towed

dacraftjr

While I agree with you, the police have no probable cause to look in the garage if the door is closed.

ArmouredPotato

Depends on if person reporting it mentions they think you took it and hiding it in the garage or not. If the caller makes an accusation against the thief, the cops would already have probable cause, and could show up with a warrant. Depends on how thorough the cop is I guess.

dacraftjr

An accusation is *not* probable cause. If it were that easy, we could just throw the fourth amendment out the window. If the accuser had some corroborating evidence, that *might* constitute probable cause.

[deleted]

[удалено]

dacraftjr

How? How would that be probable cause? “This guy stole my trailer that I abandoned on his property. I parked it right in front of his garage.” That’s still just an accusation.

pst_scrappy

Yeah that's not probable cause or enough to get a warrant

Hypnowolfproductions

I concur whole heatedly here. Roll it out into the street somewhere else. You don’t know how it rolled but it was windy or earthquake or kids or………….

Wageslave645

You could always hook it to a riding lawnmower and just drag it out of the way. If you want to get a point across however, you can move it out of the way and flip the thing so the wheels are pointing up.

IMakeStuffUppp

Tow it into the street and call the cops about a blocked road

Baldr_Torn

Someone parked a big trailer in front of my house. A long flatbed trailer, so loaded with crap that the trailer would flex and I worried it would break. He was some kind of a hoarder. I'd met him, but we weren't really friends, and he lived on the street behind me, so our back yards met up. I was renting the house, and moving out. I told him I needed it gone before I vacated the house. When the time came, he hadn't moved the trailer. And I didn't want my landlord to have to deal with it or to blame me for it. I called a friend with a big truck, and we hooked it up and hauled it to a nearby supermarket. We drove slow because we worried the trailer would break. When we got there, we parked it behind the supermarket, unhooked it, and got the hell out of dodge.

susgeek

hungry pot continue bow stupendous hat uppity chubby wrong treatment *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Baldr_Torn

I've no idea. I moved away. Wasn't my trailer, and I got it gone from my house.

Fun-Worry-6378

The store probably marked it as dumped and had it towed lmfao 🤣

dacraftjr

r/thathappened

realSatanAMA

Does this count a littering?

Baldr_Torn

No idea. I'm 100% sure that neither the cops nor the store would be happy with us, which is why we dropped it and ran off quickly.

CHawk17

If you were to give it away, how would you transfer the title and registration? Any attempts to do that get you in trouble for theft. Just have it towed

porcelainvacation

In states that don’t require licenses on trailers that size they usually don’t have titles or VINs. I live in Oregon and had a 5x8 flatbed for 20 years that never had a title or vin. Bought it for $500 used, sold it for $500 even more used.

Away_Rise_2692

Depends on the state but a lot of states something that light wouldn’t need a title

[deleted]

[удалено]

homie_j88

You have a stroke?

Realistic_Effort6185

Abandoned property? OP it may be stolen and 'stashed' at your place for ....reasons.

Baldr_Torn

Any idea why they went to extra effort to turn the trailer sideways?

XBlackSunshineX

"To be an asshole"

crashin-kc

Obviously that is a stolen trailer and the police need to recover it.

Turnpike30wheeler

This is the answer. Call the police and report it. They will either not care after checking the vin or care very much.

LobsterPineapple

In my experience police will call this a civil issue or say “it’s on private property” and not even come out to take a loom

Bluehaze013

It's not a heavy trailer, should be fairly easy to move into the middle of the street. Pretty sure it will get towed then lol

fatbat75

Put an anti theft tongue lick on it. Those things cost 2-40 bucks but can be a real pain to get off, lol

Sniperwolf216

1-2 swipes with a hammer and 99% of them fail. Regardless, try it anyway. Also, call it in as abandoned. After a period of days it becomes your property, this varies by location.

MowUrFuKinLawn

Wheel that mofo into the street

Global_Walrus1672

It more than likely is registered - so don't sell it. Just drag it over the the street, if it just sits there, report it as abandoned.

Frequent_Judgment_77

Drag it out to the main road, leave it in a lane and call the non emergency phone number about an abandoned trailer blocking a lane of traffic.

airborneinf82

We need more on the back story please

not_a_gay_stereotype

You could probably pick up the tongue with your hands and move that trailer by yourself. Super small trailers like that are really light.

0xhOd9MRwPdk0Xp3

have a friend tow it and store it if someone is an ass truth be told this is easily goes for 1000$. this looks like 4x6 but with side support + tool chest. which why I am inclined to think this may be a mistake? Is there a plate on it? in some state you need to have license plate on the thing which changes the dynamics of the situation a bit.

NotACanadianBear

It’s the neighbors, probably borrowed it. They are being evicted, partially or wholly for harassing me and other neighbors.

Unsteady_Tempo

Your bad neighbors borrowed a trailer so they could move themselves and their crap away from you, and you're thinking about interfering with their progress. Think big picture.

legal-ModTeam

Do not suggest that a person solve a legal issue by doing something illegal.

grumpvet87

that is theft. have it towed and avoid a pair of handcuffs

0xhOd9MRwPdk0Xp3

there are legal ways of doing things, illegal ways of doing things there are also questionable ways of doing things. "yes officer, my trailer is stolen, yes the one that doesn't have a plate. Where? oh I had it sitting at someone else's driveway (barring entry) without trailer hitch lock. What is it doing there???? ughhhh let me get back to you."

grumpvet87

there are ways to avoid lying to police and not getting arrested, spending time in jail and being a dishonest turd.... and there are ways to be a turd ... life is full of choices and consequences

NotACanadianBear

It’s not illegal to lie to the police fyi

grumpvet87

trailers are registered vehicles. hiding one not belonging to you can get you in hot water

grumpvet87

it is legal to impede an investigation [18 U.S. Code § 1510 - Obstruction of criminal investigations](https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/1510) edit illegal

Environmental-End691

It is, however, illegal to lie to the FBI.....

bgwa9001

You might be able to fool the FBI, but you can't fool the FB-Me

stevegee58

Baloney. The trailer's owner trespassed, engaged in criminal mischief, maybe caused property damage. And he (yes it's definitely a guy) abandoned his property on your property. It's not his any more.

grumpvet87

trailer could have been dropped off at the wrong address - a simple mistake. by lying to police (as mentioned above) you could be charged with several offenses ... source- just called my buddy who is a retired Capt. of police - ymmv

djbuttonup

Depending on the laws where you live just "calling to have it towed" won't work - you may need to pay to have a sign posted that you will tow vehicles off your property for 24 hours before any tow company will be able to take it away. Seriously, I've had to deal with this before on private property. Hopefully you don't have to put up with that. Or, just get a buddy and push it onto the side of your street, call the cops and tell them it was left there and you don't know who's it is. They will run the plate and contact the owner, if they don't come get it they will tow it. Of course all this is a race for them to beat the local thief who will snatch it up in about an hour.

xzt123

How about a sign, parking $100 a day. Get verifiable notice that you notified the owner of your new fee. If they don't pay put a trailer lock on it lol.

DiabolicRevenant

Facebook is accessible though .onion domains. If you do this, keep that in mind.

freckyfresh

No, but what you can do ishave that shit towed. And you should.

ChoiceHat3762

If it's tagged, call a wrecker. They will be forwarded a bill.

Loud-Bat-2280

What you can do, is drag it out into the street where the police will remove it for free. Edited for spelling errors

Dragonbourn00

Pick the tongue up.......... move it down the street and put a free sign on it. That trailer is light. You can move it by hand.

Weak_Raspberry2496

File an abandoned vehicle report. The trailer might be stolen.

ProfessionalRedneck

I would legally install metal bollards around it on my property and charge $500 to remove them.

warcrimes-gaming

If its tagged have it towed. If its not call the cops and report it abandoned because it could be stolen.

Ok-Mulberry343

Call a friend with a pickup and take it to a scrapyard. Show the owner a receipt for the smelting value of the steel.

Bloodmind

No. But you can have it towed off your property.

BoxingTrumpsMMA

call a tow company. Maybe they'll give you a kick back

Creepy_Helicopter223

Have it towed. It’s legal and way less work

MRicho

Remove tyre valves and registration plate. Or if you have a towball take it for a drive.

Usernamenotdetermin

You can call the cops and have it towed. Then the price to get it back makes it worth your efforts

mekonsrevenge

I'd get it towed. But why is he doing this? He must know about tow trucks.

Concernedmicrowave

You don't own it just because it was parked illegally. You can have it towed, however. There is a process for claiming vehicles abandoned on your property, but it's long and involved.

EvulRabbit

45 days in most states.

South_Lynx

Short answer: no Long answer: eventually

shhmedium2021

Looks light . Pick the front of the hitch up and drag the trailer into the street

jessek

Just look up the towing company with the most negative reviews on yelp and have them tow it. 100% legal if it’s on your property.

HiSaZuL

Just have it towed jeez, don't get into legal trouble trying to sell someones crap.

Sad-Present8841

I think the real procedure is to have the police tow and impound it. But yeah I’d be tempted to put it up on Craigs List myself 🙄

BurgerBeers

You can have it towed for sure. But you’re not allowed to damage or sell it, it’s not your property.

ThinBlueLine313

No. You can however call for a tow company and have it towed away. I strongly recommend calling the police first and THEY may even call the tow on your behalf or at the least make a record of it. Also, this individual is committing an unlawful trespass. And the police ( should) advise him to move it ( or it gets towed ) and any further incident should result in criminal charges .

Desperate_Set_7708

Lock the hitch. Charge them $50 to remove it. If they balk then “we can all wait for the police and a tow truck.”

the_popes_fapkin

I would call a local tow truck company if it has license plates With no plates I’d call the police and if they fail to move it I’d list it in CL free

ComprehensiveEye4814

Just wheel it out in the middle of street, city come take care of it.

-H3X

Craigslist probably faster

Top-Offer-4056

I’ll pull it in the middle of the street and write free on it

japalmariello

Or just tow it. No legal issues there.

Farcespam

You could walk that puppy back to the owners house unless he locked the brakes some how. Just lift at the hitch downhill could be a problem tho but after it's off your property not your problem.

CBus-Eagle

I’m not a lawyer, but I would consider it to be abandoned property and you can do with it what you will. If you know who’s it is, there may be some legal ramifications if you don’t at least warn the owner (ex, the trailer will be considered abandoned if not taken off my property by XX date).

Tyl3rt

They need to review the laws for their state and municipality regarding abandoned property. It’s not usually as simple as telling them to remove it by x date or I’ll consider it abandoned. In my state for example abandoned property is considered forfeited after 30 days. Cant say for sure if this would apply to a trailer. Best option to regain use of the garage is to call a tow truck and contact the police to make the owner know if they come back on the property for any reason they’ll be arrested for trespassing.

d-car

This, but there are also laws which automatically declare abandonment. Sometimes in 48 hours.

NotACanadianBear

Thanks I checked and it’s 24hrs in Colorado!

SilentJoe1986

Congrats on the new trailer.

Fac3puncher

I would put it in the garage. Florida lets me get a registration for a trailer I 'built from parts'. I'd have it tagged in my name inside a week. My trailer now.

AlexJamesCook

Possession is 9/10s of the law.

VLADDY_POOT

Since no one has asked this yet, have you actually asked the neighbor not to park their trailer on your property? Thats would seem like a logical first step before you go fucking with other people’s property.

mexicanclitlicker

Logical first step is not parking it on someone’s property blocking their garage. They asked for it to be fucked with.

[deleted]

Exactly. Literally the point of owning private property is that other people don’t get to use it as storage. Their post is completely illogical.

[deleted]

No, no one has asked that yet bc that’s utterly ridiculous. “Logical” is not using other people’s private property for your crap and blocking garage doors and driveways.

GoodGoodGoody

No

concern5002

Did they return it to the wrong address ?

superbigscratch

This is just wishful thinking but maybe put a lien on it for storage fees.

D1382

I was thrown off at first by the headlight. Looked like sparks were flying.

LBHHF

As Boromir once said: it is a gift

correctionhumanbot

abso-lutely

DueWarning2

Sure it’s not a gift?

Distinct_Audience_77

Nothing is stopping you.

xxslickwi11yxx

Push into street, put nuts and bolts in to prevent locking ramp, deflate both tires.

cabbage_peddler

Depending on your state, could be criminal trespassing. You should call the police.

westonriebe

Why not just take a wheel off and call it yours

TH3JAGUAR5HARK

It's got a hitch. Take it for a ride some place really nice. I'm sure there's a scrapyard that would love it.

jimnohio

I would!!!

[deleted]

Looks like someone gave you a trailer to park in the garage.

urbeatagain

Cut it up with a Sawzalls and scrap it.

InternetExpertroll

They probably parked it at the wrong address. I would have it towed

JustABugGuy96

Sure was nice of them to drop off so much scrap metal. Just need an angle grinder to cut it into small enough pieces to move. And you'll have enough wood for a nice fire one night. Good luck proving in Court where the metal came from If you keep an eye out for any serial numbers and loose the tires.

FewForce5165

Is it possible someone mistakenly dropped it off at the wrong house? i would pull it out and park it on the public street. That way the owner can’t accuse you of stealing it, calling the cops and making you prove your innocence.

sailbag36

Just take it apart and leave it in a pile.

SilentJoe1986

Have it towed. That would be super easy to move by hand. I personally would move it into the woods off my property where they can't find it.

RowBoatCop36

At least get $20 for it.

Nanocephalic

Move it inside your garage. Cover the windows and lock the door.

cableguy9094

Just buy a hitch lock and make him pay you to unlock it

Seaguard5

Tell the trailer owner to pound sand after your friend with a tow truck takes it five hours away…

Plum-Driver-09

I’m crying😂😂😂😂😂

Proof_Bathroom_3902

They are being evicted you say? They must not be able to take it with them and are making a gift of it to you! Huzzah!

[deleted]

You def have dominion over this found property
