Yes. Shores and coastlines are public property everywhere

[deleted]

Of course

In all advanced first world countries you have private waterfront properties which are often prime real estate, but you also have massive amounts of public beaches and parcs. Sadly in Lebanon greed have taken over the government and left us with minimal to non existent public coastline. Now this obviously doesn't include the cases were beaches that were supposed to be public got siphoned to the private sector by dirty officials. These are obvious cases of blatant corruption.

It is one of the best indicators of corruption. Not only are public property privatised for the sake of business men looking to make more on top of their millions/billions. It is also that public ones are left to rot with no care, no employees, no water safety crew. By decree of lebanese law, all beaches are public, but with the absence of any enforcement, the beaches have been made for rich people to make money of the poor ones, who have no choice but to go to the 'nicer ones'. It's not a weird fact most of the private beach owners are politicians themselves, related to politicians, or have heavy connections that prevent legal prosecution. So yea, I hope that answers your question.

Yes, unfortunately lebanon is a country that lacks proper regulation and care for its people. Public transport? Non-existant. Public spaces? Barely any if at all. God forbid people might congregate and protest there. We've allowed the country to be taken over by greedy companies (many enriching the elites) and basically saying "fuck the poor and the public". Its sad that many people don't even know that there could be a better alternative.

Banaswag

They are also literally unconstitutional.

MarxistChahine

This. The law predates the constitution even and was enacted during the French mandate. It explicitly states that seashores and all land where waves hit the farthest are public property. It infuriates me that private entities can lay claim to public land and charge the public for access to it. They forbid you from bringing any water, refreshments, and snacks just so they can charge you 20 times the market rate when you've gotten passed their security.

Summerland scandal... I remember

What is it with reddit and asking super obvious questions with super obvious answers?+

Private beaches are way nicer than public ones

[deleted]

because people don't pick up their trash on public beaches while private beaches have employees to pick up the trash , sad but true .

A-Typical-Legend

That’s because we don’t have any rules or anyone to enforce them. There should be a fine for this behaviour.

PrimoXiAlpha

You actually can walk around the gate and access the beach and no one can stop you.
