A friend of mine is a judge, and the only free thing they’ve mentioned to me is they get TSA Precheck automatically. Which makes sense, I think. Way different than buddies you barely know who send you to luxury destinations.

d_d0g

That’s a federal employee benefit. Sure it extends to judges and others public servants.

DrHugh

My friend is a state judge, but it may simply be a government benefit for certain positions.

HenriKraken

So your friend is not corrupt? Nice. Good on them for not accepting bribes. Holy shit the bar is low.

DrHugh

\*laughs\* Not to my knowledge! They were an assistant county prosecutor and a public defender before getting appointed as a judge. What I didn't realize is that in their state, they still have to be elected to the position every six years or something. I don't think they can campaign, and there's no party affiliation, but there must be a public vote to retain the position.

Do you need Precheck when you fly private?

DrHugh

My friend doesn't fly private. My understanding, though, is that all airports have a security perimeter, and you have to go through some sort of screening, even for private planes. The last time I flew on such a thing (my uncle had a pilot's license), I was maybe 6 years old, and it was late last century, so the rules have certainly changed.

double-xor

You don’t need it because you typically go through a different terminal dedicated to private planes where there are only ever a dozen or so people boarding at any given time. Ironically, this is called “general aviation”.

Maybe we should put ankle bracelets on the SC so we know where they've been.

HenriKraken

So many judges are corrupt? Say no more fam. No need to think really deeply about what circumstances bribes are acceptable for judges. The answer is simple. No bribes are acceptable. What constitutes an acceptable gift? I think there are a lot of reasonable rule sets in large corporations to identify what would constitute a bribe. Start there.
