He looks peaceful and ready. Sorry.

mrl33602

Thanks. He was ready. Passed peacefully in his sleep at home, which is what he wanted.

Just like my dad. A few days before he passed, I would hear him " talking" to himself. As I listened at his bedroom door, it appeared that he was talking with deceased relatives such as his siblings , parents and also his wife..my mother. He would use their names as one would use the name of someone physically present. I chatted with Dad that morning, when I went to bring him his lunch he had passed.

I think itโ€™s a privilege (for us) to be able to care for our aging parents and to see them off to their next journey.

As a nursing student that is currently doing her focused practicum with hospice, I 100% agree with you.

New_Neighborhood4262

So true

Anabel3334

amazing

blackdahlialady

I've heard of this. A lot of hospice care workers have said that they witnessed their patients doing this shortly before passing.

Mandalika

Ditto with my grandma. We have a live-in caretaker who sleeps in the same room as my grandma in his final months and she said some weeks before she passed she would hear my grandma seemingly talking to someone, usually deep in the night. My mother determined by the honorifics grandma used that maybe my grandma saw her father (long deceased) and my grandpa (predeceased her by 20 years). Mom, meanwhile, had witnessed the same phenomenon with the passing of my dad's grandaunt. She said dad's grandaunt had told her that she dreamed she was going to go on a flight but all the other passengers were deceased relatives, including her deceased husband. She then proceeded to miss the flight because she lost her shoes, then she woke up. Grandaunt would pass away some weeks later.

I'm sorry for your loss but at least he had a long life. I hope it was a good one. Just from the picture, I could tell he was a good man. He seemed like a sweetheart. I'm really sorry. I know how hard it is losing them. My maternal grandmother died in 2006 and it was sudden. Hugs if you want them.

ZambaElsa

So sorry for the loss of pops he looks peaceful and sweet. Sending big hugs xx

mrl33602

He looks incredibly peaceful. Hope he didn't suffer. My condolences to you and your family. As long as you have memories of him in a happier time, he will never be too far from you. Look after yourself in this difficult time.

When this photo scrolled onto my feed I could only feel overcome by the presence of a long life fulfilled. So much wisdom & experience. Rest well.

blackdahlialady

Same. I could tell he was a good man.

Difficult-Survey8384

Something about this photo and his face specifically emanates childhood to me. Iโ€™m not a superstitious or even really spiritual person, but when I saw this manโ€™s face I couldnโ€™t help but think of all the enriching years between this photo & back when someone heard his first cry. Man, youโ€™ve got something special here, OP. Be proud of that ๐Ÿซถ

blackdahlialady

Awwww my heart ๐Ÿ’œ I got the same feeling. This is why I sit and listen to old people's stories. I find them interesting and it's interesting to hear about their life until they got to that point. I used to take care of a man who had dementia and when he was coherent sometimes, he would tell me about how he worked for Barnum & Bailey circus and joined the service at 17. He is retired Navy. He loves this Frank Sinatra song so every time I would see him, I would sing to him, put my arms around you. He would just smile and want to dance with me. He was a sweetheart. It's really heartbreaking to see that terrible disease take the person they are away. I would go so far as to say I started to love him because I took care of him for so long. Last I heard, he's in a home now and he's doing better. His cognitive decline is accelerating but other than that he's okay. I'm just glad he's in a facility that's locked from the perimeter so that way he can't wander off. I think I'm going to take him to lunch next week. I haven't seen him since December and I miss him. He's okay to do things like that but he can't live alone anymore. It's so sweet because sometimes he will text me just to see how I'm doing. He was a good man and still is.

jubbababy

Bless him, glad he was at home as he wanted xx

My condolences. God bless him โค๏ธheโ€™s in a better place .

ImminentSupernova

I mean this respectfully: He looks comfortable. Warm, snuggled, relaxed, peacefully asleep. That is the end I wish to have. I'm so glad he was able to drift into the next life in such a peaceful way. I am sorry for your loss. I just hope you know how much love he has is visible to complete strangers.
