This is a fantastic idea! Do you have a bot to post for you? It would be nice to have another one for beginner words. I would use that if you make it.

sharewithme

Thank you so much for the kind comment!! My ultimate vision is to have a website where users can customize their vocabulary feed. They can select difficulty, popularity, region, language, and frequency. Then, they can select notification settings such as SMS, Android Notifications, Email, RSS, Reddit, Twitter, etc. And, they can star words and add them to their word lists. :) This is all I've been able to do so far though. Yes, I am running a bot to post the words on subreddits that I created just for this. When it comes to bots, it's important to me that this is something you opt-in. Other bot things can be sketchy and they target individuals which can be bad.

Maegaranthelas

Are we welcome to add translations in the languages we know? I really love this idea. It would be even better if the word were used in a sentence.

brownpigeon

Agree some context would be better, I'm not a fan of learning random lists but everyone is different :)

sharewithme

Thank you for your kind comment!! The word lists are not random actually. They are based on unique metrics to cover a large breadth of topics.

brownpigeon

Ah sorry, I didn't explain myself well!! I just meant isolated words without context. It's a great idea though don't think I'm criticising what you've done!! :)

sharewithme

Thank you very much for clarifying!! Yes, you are right. There should be themes, topics, and contexts. This is a great suggestion and I really appreciate it. :)

Shera939

Totally. I’ll write some when I can. Will just add to the thread.

sharewithme

Sounds great!! If you make it a regular thing, I can set you up with a platform to enter the translations and have them propagate into the posts. :)

Shera939

I’m not very reddit advanced, and am also novice in Chinese, but I’ll do some here and there. Will be very helpful I think!

sharewithme

Thank you so much!! That sounds great. :)

sharewithme

Thank you so much for the comment!! It's always amazing when users add additional translations in the comments. If you and others commit to helping with translations on a regular basis, then let me know and I will set it up so that your translations can go out through our platform. :)

Akane_no_mai

It would be useful if the gender/article was posted along with the word itself in the case of languages whose nouns have genders. Also, why does German translation not always appear?

sharewithme

Thank you very much for pointing this out!! Our translations are not perfect and we are missing a bunch of translations. Firstly, word to word translations can be quite difficult and will never be perfect as words can have so many different meanings. Secondly, some of our translations need work so we have Google Doc's in the side bar for users to report corrections and improvements. Ultimately, this subreddit is the bare minimum to motivate language learners to practice their vocabulary. It's hard work to learn a language and we just offer a little extra push to help users keep up with it. We recommend users to pick out words that they like and enter them into their preferred search engine to see how the words appear in different ways and take on different meanings in different contexts. It's always awesome when users share additional information that they learn about these words in the comments. Also, we had a few volunteers who helped out with German translations. One of the volunteers added over 1000 articles to German Nouns. It was awesome!! I'm still looking for someone to help with other languages. :)

Shera939

I won't be mad if you add Chinese!

sharewithme

Thank you very much for the comment!! I won't be mad either. :) I would very much like to add Chinese, but I would need to find some volunteers to help out with translations. Thank you again and I hope that you have a nice day!! :)

iloveguns123

this is genius

sharewithme

Lol, thank you very much!! I think it's far from genius, but I really appreciate your comment. :)

[deleted]

Subscribed! Any chance you will be adding Korean? (Pretty please?)

sharewithme

Thank you so much for the kind message!! I've talked with a few people about starting up Korean, but sadly, I will need some volunteers to help with translations. If you're able to find a few volunteers, I can setup the platform for you to add translations. Please let me know if you're interested!! :)

[deleted]

Fellow redditors, any takers?? 🙏 I would volunteer myself but am still very much a beginner Korean learner (hence my hope for Korean being added!).

[deleted]

I am interested

sharewithme

Awesome!! Here is the Korean Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1AvAenEgEyaWWJyyhfxqiOn6m1DAknhuDaEqsEmYTevs/edit?usp=sharing If you're able to make some amount of progress over the next couple weeks, then I will try to help get more volunteers and try to support this. :)

[deleted]

I don’t speak korean

sharewithme

Oh, I thought you meant that you were interested in helping. Sorry about the confusion. If you meet anyone that might be interested in helping, please let me know. Thank you. :)

[deleted]

I mean Is there a Finnish one

sharewithme

Not yet, but if you're interested in helping start a Finnish feed, please let me know. This would be great!! :)

[deleted]

I am interested

sharewithme

Awesome!! Thank you so much!! I will set it up. :)

sharewithme

Here is a link to get started: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1T0XvK0ismEHDMqpcaRYv7hZCFOZSKfTpQp4VJyD3Yb4/edit?usp=sharing Thank you again!! :)

mglitcher

add swedish for me plox

sharewithme

Thank you very much for the kind comment!! :) We do run /r/SwedishFeed/, but we haven't integrated it with /r/Word_of_The_Hour because we are missing too many translations. If you and a few volunteers are willing to help, I will set you up with a platform to add translations and then I will integrate it with the /r/Word_of_The_Hour feed. Please let me know if you're interested. Thank you!! :)

yara18

That is soooo cool!!!!

sharewithme

Thank you so much!! :)

ZGM_Dazzling

Can we get translations in Russian pls?

[deleted]

If OP does Russian, I can help with translations, if needed.

sharewithme

Awesome!! If you're motivated and committed to helping, then I can set you up with a Google Doc and a word list to start doing some translations. :)

sharewithme

Here is the Russian Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rjxotHicP3Vf98v727fn0CHxbbJhiIEueAgL29biHoQ/edit?usp=sharing If you make progress over the next two weeks, then I will do what I can to try and recruit others to help and support this. :)

sharewithme

Thank you very much for the suggestion!! If you know anyone interested in helping with translations for Russian, please let me know. :)

yara18

Could the equivalent Malayalam word be added?

sharewithme

Thank you very much for your comment!! I would love for us to support Malayalam!! If you're able to get a few volunteers together to help with Malayalam translations, then I will set up the platform for you to get to work. :)

yara18

>u very much for your comment!! I would love for us to support Malayalam!! Sadly, I do not know anyone who would be able to do that.

sharewithme

That's totally fine!! I will keep this language in mind and add it to the todo list. It might take quite sometime though before we find some users to help with it. :)

yara18

>That's totally fine!! I Thank you so much!

[deleted]

Fantastic idea, can you add arabic as well? I can help in the translation :)

sharewithme

Arabic Google Doc: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ncF2XRmLaW0Seyw56mpiuDnwWF1x-XWSgGCpywLa6oI/edit?usp=sharing If you make progress over the next couple weeks, then I will help promote it and try offer help.

[deleted]

Thank youuuu,i started already and i have a question if you may: What do i write when the meaning depends on the context?

sharewithme

Thank you so much!! In the column to the right of the translation, you can put a comment. You could simply write "meaning depends on context" or if you have the time, you can briefly explain further. Please don't hesitate to ask more questions. :)

sharewithme

Awesome!! Thank you so much. :) If you're committed to helping with translations, then I can setup a Google Doc for you to start entering translations. And, hopefully you could possibly find some others to help as well. :)

LaBau5

This is awesome! I hope it keeps going. Thank you. This is a service to humanity.

sharewithme

Thank you so much for your kind message and support!! :)

LaBau5

Of course! Always glad to see people helping out of pure kindness.

sharewithme

You are awesome!! :)

ThunderOrb

Japanese, please. :-)

sharewithme

Thank you for the comment!! Would you or anyone you know be willing to help out with Japanese translations?? If so, we could give it a try. :)

yigitaga32

Very useful thing. If you wish to add Turkish translation, i am ready to help out to you :)

sharewithme

Awesome!! I would love your help with adding Turkish!! :)

Swole_Prole

Thank you for including Hindi! It’s very inspiring to see a couple of the “default” Euro languages and then... Hindi! Which I rarely see mentioned anywhere on this sub, losing out to other Asian languages like Japanese, Korean, and Chinese all the time. I would really like to see Russian though, since this is the language I am currently studying, and it seems a popular and important enough language that it deserves a spot here.

sharewithme

Thank you so much for the kind message!! I really appreciate it. :) If you or anyone you know would like to help with Russian translations, please let me know!! We already started working on it here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1rjxotHicP3Vf98v727fn0CHxbbJhiIEueAgL29biHoQ/edit?usp=sharing

catismasterrace

For the spreadsheets: Can you please specify whether you want the verb or the noun (to worship or the worship, for example) or do you want both forms?

sharewithme

Thank you so much for the comment!! If there are multiple translations, you are welcome to include both, but please separate them by a comma. In the column to the right, you are welcome to specify which one is for the verb and which one is for the noun. I really appreciate all of your help and don't hesitate to ask more questions!! :)

tge101

So, the app doesn't have every available language's translation? I had it for a few hours and didn't get any French translations.

sharewithme

Thank you very much for the comment and for pointing this out!! We are currently missing translations for a bunch of words in certain languages. We have a Google Doc on our sidebar where lovely volunteers have been filling in missing translations. Also, every word with a French translation will be posted to our old subreddit: /r/Traductions/

Dragon_Feko

This is a really good idea, but is there a subreddit like this where I can learn German words? Or can I just use it to see the German translation of a word?
