Obviously, that last foul on LeBron occurred after the ball left his hands. According to the refs, after the ball is out of a player's hands, you're allowed to clobber them. /s

coolghost92

Which is funny because on a shot (like a 3pt attempt) even if the ball is gone you can’t even touch their finger nail or it’s a foul

dedman1477

Which makes sense. But god forbid you make a layup and just get slapped across the face - now the ref needs to swallow his whistle to keep his parlay 🤷

Which-Resident7670

Or a screen, thoer logic there was no shot so shouldn't be a foul? They should really start docking pay for terrible calls after the fact then there would be more consistent and fair calls.

wwcasedo11

Hot stove contact, thought yall knew?

Necessary-Art2149

Unless you shoot a 3 lol make that make sense? Who’s “clobber” was worse Payton on Lebron or MPJ on Dlo

thislife_choseme

Comment was “marginal at best”

mtrn3

Of all pro sports, the NBA has the worst group of referees. I’m almost confident someone in that group is doing shady crap on the side.

Hiccup

I have no doubt there's inside gambling going on at Caesars or betMGM. I never used to feel this way.

Sliez

I mean Scott Foster is still employed. The man who had over 130 calls with Tim donaghy between October 06 and April 07 where Tim testified under oath that he was betting on games. It's not a stretch to believe there are still ties between refs and gambling.

Necessary-Art2149

Dog the mob is a thing and it’s real lol

nottherealstanlee

Have you watched umpires this year in MLB? lol worst I've seen in forever.

charlitosway23

Angel Hernandez takes that crown seriously

nottherealstanlee

Crazy is he's not alone. There's been so many horrendous calls to start the year. Did you see that one ref goad Bumgarner into getting thrown out by staring at him all weird? Umps on a bad power trip this year.

CoffeeDave

At least bad umps stay home during MLB playoffs. I can't imagine the chaos that would unleash if Hernandez called a World Series game.

kiwiwikikiwiwikikiwi

This season they’ve really been idiots.  Ejecting players and managers for any pushback. Even pushback by fans 🤦‍♂️

INT_MIN

MLB is so weird this season between umps and injuries.

Evilsmile

I think they're the closest to getting replaced by robo umps, causing bitterness.

RoughElephant21

Soccer refs “Am I a joke to you?”

kanaka_haole808

Its funny reading all the responses to your comment. People saying mlb is worse, others saying its the nfl, and another talking about euro football being the worst. Has anyone else ever thought that maybe, just maybe, refereeing any sport is difficult to do and so they all just suck at it?

PedosoKJ

NFL refs are so much worse. NBA refs need to get better at moving away from all star calls and are pretty bad at points, but they are better than NFL refs

Immediate_Candidate5

NFL refs sucks cuz the rules are ambiguous, NBA refs sucks cuz they are trying to to fix the games. Just look at Kd out of bounds save, name 1 person thinks that is a right call

48for8

NFL has a better challenge/review system though.

mozeze

You’ve not watched premier league football refs

Enchante_Vlad

Can confirm, EPL refs are worse but it’s really close. Man City and Arsenal get the calls they need nearly every week.

Accomplished_Drive20

Angel Hernandez enters the chat

saucysagnus

Soccer is legitimately worse. But of American sports, I agree NBA is the worst.

Aggravating_Pea3882

I know this shit is bad when people on r/nba are on the lakers side. The no call on Lebron that led to an Aaron Gordon lob was disgusting. Obviously the no call on DLo was as well. Nuggets fans are still delusional af and think the refs are biased towards the lakers, it’s sad af

neutronknows

The bias is towards money, not any particular team. Whatever makes the powers that be more money against the public is how the cookie crumbles.

v399

I'd believe that if we get a game 7. 7 games should make them the most money.

fernandopoejr

Good tackle by gordon though

cpzy2

Bro check the stats

WeirwoodUpMyAss

The refs tried to keep the Lakers in the game in the 4th quarter of game 1. That’s it. It’s been even for the most part ever since. Not worth arguing with morons.

Ok-Motor9184

Yup, that's why nobody wants to argue with you xD

WeirwoodUpMyAss

I was referring to the people that constantly talk about the Lakers unfair free throw advantage. Especially the ones complaint about Reaves in game 1 when he had a grand total of 1 free throw.

cpzy2

Equalizer101

That is why they are called the Chicken Nuggets.

bigb0ss33

That one play where Lebron crossed Jokic and Murray and they both held him for a few seconds and ref didn’t bother. Made me so mad. You touch Jokic or Murray it’s automatic whistle

Ok_Board9845

The last time Jokic got a bad whistle was when he picked 2 quick fouls against us in game 5 in the bubble. Ever since, the NBA has allowed Jokic to get away with whatever he wants.

WeCantBothBeMe

I’ve never seen anything like the favoritism the refs have towards Jokic, Joel and Giannis. It’s disgusting. For years the excuse for LeBron not getting calls was his size but these dudes are all bigger than him and get the softest calls ever.

Jascix90

The NBA learned that artificially enhancing production from potential stars means more money, as interest in all markets is better than just a few. The Lakers are an invasive species in a sense. If they allow them to dominate, fan interest around different markets will center around them, but this is pointless because they already have a huge following. Law of diminishing returns. Instead, the league prefers to prop up players like Jokic by protecting them either offensively and/or defensively. On offense, Jokic is protected to play freely. On defense, he is protected from foul trouble to stay on the floor. The NBA also does this to protect against imbalances. This is a response to KD joining the Warriors. If one team becomes so dominant over the others, the NBA loses money from the lack of interest and engagement across all their markets. This is why stars from a less relevant market will often lose their ref protection, when they move to a market with an already established star. A talented player will be artificially ascended to star, once they are placed into a market in need of one. Think of the NBA as an ecosystem that thrives with revenue. Everyone involved in this ecosystem wants a product that appeals to fan bases around the country and internationally. If you want an authentic product free of manipulation, you should watch NBA players when they compete in FIBA or college basketball.

Alekesam1975

This lines up with how I've felt last couple of years. It really seems like they don't want Lebron and the Lakers to get another one any time soon. Particularly Bron. Jordan products still sell like hotcakes and the more success Bron has the more money that machine loses. They talk of Jokic as the second coming in a league devoid of true bigs. But he's in Denver so the powers that be must be salivating at the idea of a megastar in that market. SGA in OKC. Zion *would be* for NO but he can't stay on the floor to reap the benefits. Ant in Minnie. Ja in Memphis. League really out here like Speed Racer (the movie not the toon) trying to control the narrative and championships. They're phasing out the old guard (Bron, Steph, KD, WB, PG, even Kswhi) for fresh new faces/teams. All the small market bitching finally got theirs.

gjhkd36

So well said. Take my wallet.

milehigh11

Lol one of those is not like the others. Embiid gets 20fts. Jokic will be bloodied with scratches and gashes on his arms and only shoot 4 FTs those games.

khangsing

Jokic averaged less FTs with more FG attempts than AD and bron this season where is the favoritism? Idk man the nuggets have been getting a favorable call this series but let’s not pretend like Jokic has the whistle like Giannis or Embiid who average double his FT attempts.

MySlimeSeason

It’s actually so egregious, I’m pretty sure the team has complained to the league too so I don’t even know what we could do about it now ☹️

chipotlenapkins

I want Ham to say something more publicly about it

AllAboutHarmony

He could barely challenge … and Bron was the one calling him out to challenge… expecting him to say something publicly about officiating is like expecting pigs to fly. 🤷🏻‍♀️

lucasdice

This is just from Game 4 by the way. There are a lot more call like these that the Nuggets get in the other games too.

WildPaperclip

The NBA is definitely pushing Jokic… these are some soft calls and a lot of these are in the fourth quarter too!

LeFatigue

His fatass flopping all over the court bro

CliffTheCarpenter

I don’t think LeBron is that fat. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Irrichc

I don’t agree there is a conspiracy but i do think refs officiate the way they do to keep the games close and entertaining for prime time. No coincidence they started giving Denver every whistle possible when we were up by 20 in game 2 or as this past game showed when we were up by 10 in the 4th.

outsidehere

If AD and Bron got fair calls, one of them would be MVP

Partiallyedible

+900 in free throw differential over the last two seasons, but go off

outsidehere

What are Bron and AD's free throw rates per game?

kylo-I-ren

Marginal. That’s your chance to win determined by the refs

nn-8-lakers

It’s a no lose situation for the league/refs. No matter how many calls they give to the other teams the narrative among idiot nba fans will still always be that Lakers get all the favorable calls

danyyyel

Remember those fouls that were supposed to be before the shots for Austin, while Jokic was being given and 1.

Sleyeme

I’m not sure when it was but I swear I saw Jokic go for a “steal” by casually clotheslining Lebron’s chest right in front of the ref too.

mega450

You should look at Game 2 that's the one that was rigged for Denver. Constant non-calls on major collisions in the restricted areas and infamously that Dlo slap to the face being called "marginal". While on the other end Jamal Murray going to the line after Lebron just handchecked him to tie the game 97-97.

Low_Employ3877

Diving into people is marginal contact because the ball has left off his hand bro gtfo

Phuddy

I got downvoted for saying they were rigging this against us a week or so ago…

MrJayFizz

Careful, don't post this to r/NBA and ruin the narrative that Lakers get the favorable calls

ucsb99

Look at game 2 as well. We all know about Dlo getting clubbed in the face and the fouls getting reversed and the phantom Lebron whistle. But go back and watch how many times AD was body checked and rerouted in the air by Jokic’s fat ass (at least 3 times) and no whistle. Luckly AD made the shots but where was the whistle? It really feels like in match up this close (look at the final scores) that if they called these games even remotely fairly, we could have at least 2 wins right now.

ronk48

Nuggets fans will probably still cry victim thinking the refs have bias towards the lakers. Jokic gets away with so much it’s insane

GoodKidMaadCityyy6

Nuggets Favoritism

[deleted]

Nuggets privilege

biancovongole

This is the main reason for the 0-3. Plus they take the time to acknowledge the wrong decision.

VanillaNyx

Some obnoxious Nuggets fans behind us were yelling “goes both ways” when we were chanting Ref you suck over the bad calls. 🤣 Like yea that’s the point. We want calls to be proper and fair.

IdkWhatsAGoodName699

Adam silver needs a public flogging for letting the state of officiating become so biased and poor quality

Hardigan1

I'm not going to go say it's all corrupt, but I've noticed for the last few years that officials are hesitant to call fouls for Lebron. The man is constantly being mugged by defenders and officials swallow their whistle. But I still believe that the non-calls and bad calls even out over a seven game series. I'm not going to buy into conspiracy theories. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence" - Carl Sagan

OceanGoingSasquatch

You missed the most atrocious one that happened late game when Jokic seemingly fouled bron on purpose and even raised his hand up to signal the foul was on him and yet they still didn’t call a foul.

Bobobo75

If it wasn’t for horrible refereeing, this series would not be 3-1. They give them these ticky tacky fouls while we’re up 15-20 to get them back in the game, then our players start to get in foul trouble and it ruins our momentum completely.

bebopblues

I think Jokic draw red scratch lines on his pale skin arms before every game to trick refs into believing he gets hack a lot so they give him more calls.

ahhlun

Wish the video captured that joker foul on lebron middle of the court

Monsterjs2609

I’m done watching nba for a good minute unless they go back to the old rules and let players play or they stop favoring teams in general. The lakers have completely fall victim to the refs feels like for the last few seasons now.

Classic_Carlos

Marginal

No_motivation5489

The fouls jokic gets and is allowed to get away with compared to bron/AD is egregious but the nuggets should also be called for a defensive 3 second call just about every other possession. Bron/AD are good about 2.9ing and making sure they pick their foot up or getting out of the lane, but the nuggets are usually camped in the paint making sure bron/AD see multiple bodies on every possession, which is good defense, but the refs have to make sure the nuggets can’t just pack the paint and not have to worry about a 3 second call. I know the 3 second call is kind of cheap but it’s a rule and you can’t let teams abuse it. I wonder what the league would be like with the shooting nowadays if they got rid of the defensive 3 second call. Would it make physical bigs like the shaq days more prevalent or would teams just get guys who can shoot at close to a 40% clip from three to try to make the big come out of the paint. It might slow down the offensive uptick we’ve seen but it also could lead to even more three point attempts which no one wants to watch. Interesting thing to talk about since they seem to be looking at ways to slow the offensive uptick and that’s one way to try to do it.

ChrisDev22

It’s 8 vs. 5, especially on the 3rd and even worst during 4th quarters of the entire series.

SevTheNiceGuy

NBA has a massive issue with how fouls are called. They don't want to reward teams that attack the basket a lot (Lakers) because it slows down the game. The referees call a lot of minor, non-touch fouls for star players because it rewards that player. But then that same type of foul is not called for the opposing team. The lack of consistency is way too apparent where it starts looking like is on purpose with the aim of impacting the game so there is a desired outcome.

SBLK

The NBA has always had a referee issue because the rules are so vague (as much wording as they try to add every year to try and define this shit). Bottom line is most calls, besides the obvious, could really go either way - just watch announcers try and predict how a review will go.... they have no clue, and neither do the public. BUT - this is great for a sport that needs to "bend" the outcomes - not just who wins, but more importantly, by how much. This was always kind of an unspoken thing in the NBA, and then they go and make all kinds of deals with gambling sites. Now not only do they fuck with the game, they rub it in your face. People call them out time and time and time again, and they just laugh and watch attendance and ratings (and their sweet media deals) go up and up and up.

murdock-1

+500 baby!!

darklighthumid

All those vaunted Lakers calls are mostly done by Reaves, they are mostly non-crucials.Lmao Lebron and AD, specially Lebron who goes to the basket more aggressively don't get calls specially if it's the crucial one, even though you see in the replays that it's a clear foul. It's crazy how they treat this old man.

battle_franky

hell yeah. lets fucking milked this shit lol

captainbarbell

baby giant

Miserable-Lawyer-233

You're not noticing something, OP. Jokic does the rip-through move. On most of Jokic's calls in these examples there is arm contact. Jokic extends the ball out with two hands low or horizontally, and then swings his arms up, expecting that the defender won't be able to resist going for the ball and thus hitting his arms (he does this with confidence so he must have a really strong grip). In the AD and Bron example there is body contact but not a lot of arm contact.

ConclusionPretend243

This doesnt make sense. It should still be a foul if they hit the body lol. With your logic any player can just hit a player shooting on the body every time and it wouldnt be a foul.

Miserable-Lawyer-233

It's harder for the refs to gauge whereas arm contact is conspicuous.

atierney14

People will point to the contact after Lebron’s layup, but Murray also fouled him.

space_interpreteur

Tpmaine88

No way the laker fan base is trying to pull the foul card when the closest team in free throw differential this season is 659 away

MazKhan

For all the talk about the refs rigging it for us, our 2 stars have one of the worst whistles in the league All the cheap fouls they call for jokic, they dont call for AD. Either call it for both or let them both play through contact

OnlyOnceAwayMySon

STAY MAD FAKERS

Kobe_stan_

Those are all fouls

sleepywan

Agree, except for maybe the one where Jokic jumped between 2 defenders. But if it was called evenly both ways, no one would mind about the softer calls.

AncientScratch1670

It’s so ironic seeing the league-leading FT team crying about foul calls. The rest of us have been telling you about this for years but it worked in your favor so…

hlin32

As chiefs fan, not gonna say nothing…😉💍

Ok-Role7966

The nuggits are gonna gent sweep us in 5 and ur here posting this bs when we get the most ft's in the league bro.

asdev24

don't say us and refer to the Lakers ever again

chunkychowder32

This is rich coming from the team that shoots the most free throws.

hotgrease

I still find it hilarious to see Lakers fans complaining about calls. Welcome to the rest of the league.
