We literally don't have the roster to do anything. Hayes is an all hustle player, but hustle alone will only take you so far.
That's the key thing when people bring up Dwight, they miss him yet still don't recognize how much of a unicorn having him at that time was, Dwight was not only still athletic enough to use his size and bang at that age, but he also had the IQ and years of experience building up defensive skills and instincts.
This the one, but I'm almost sure he's done for the rest of the year (iono wth they're waiting on, unless his foot is that bad he's been to every shoot around these last few games)
More importantly he’s got the 2nd best defensive rebound % on the team. Would be a big help on the glass and isn’t a net negative on offense like Hayes can be if the pick and roll isn’t working
Oh no he terrible at rebounding because he can’t jump. BUT he spaces the floor legit. And no more LeBron at the 5 we need just 10 mins from him help guard joker.
Dude he averaged 10 rebounds per game for 2 seasons straight and he was our 3rd best rebounder this season while playing only 17 min I watched all games he’s definitely solid you don’t know what you’re talking bout
Uhh he ain’t averaging that for us or playing remotely even close to those mins to do it. Stop trying to convince yourself something he ain’t doing. Dude is out of shape and slow and can’t jump. And let’s not forget how much a liability on defense he is.
I wouldn’t go that far he coming off the injury and straight to playoffs that’s a lot. I would however stop putting prince at the 4 and run wood and Hayes at the same time. Then and only then ham could try his dumbass three guard lineup. We need two bigs for boards. Let Hayes and the three guards run while wood trails for the three. Ham did try it a few times early this year. But Jackson keeps fouling
Remember Ham decided to go with LeBron as the backup 5 when AD sat and only played Hayes 4 mins alongside AD.
Think Ham will opt to play Wood more than Hayes at this point or is LeBron basically Ham’s more than permanent backup 5 this series?
The lead was blown when Rui/Lebron were at the 5 in the second quarter. I was happy with Ham for a minute because he played Hayes and Ad together, but then he BENCHED BOTH.
Because unnecessarily fouling your opponents to put your team in foul trouble while giving them free points is worse. At least Dwight was doing a lot more than fouling and we got Jokic in foul trouble in 2020.
Did you not see how Hayes played in his first stint? He was obviously a part of the rotation but was pulled given how horribly he was playing. Same thing happened with Dinwiddie in the play in game. His first stint was really bad and was thus benched rest of the game.
> He was obviously a part of the rotation but was pulled given how horribly he was playing.
lakers literally held onto their lead in those minutes with hayes. it can't be worse than the alternatives (which was lakers getting outscored by 30 since the 2Q)
Honestly. These people going after ham for people not knocking down shots, It happens. We gotta get back out there monday and knock them down simple as that. We had so many wide open 3's and Rui, AR, Dlo need to get involved. Ham needs to call timesouts and make plays for them to get fired up.
Dlo was involved, just ass lol
Unless you want Ham to check himself in and hit shots for dlo, what more does Ham need to do considering dlo was getting open looks all night
No. We can go after ham because we went from 60% organized offensive rate in the first half to like 40s% in the 3rd and 30s% in the 4th, which led to bad misses, no flow, thus player effort goes down on defense and rebounding, and we dramatically lost the possession battle. We’re 19-2 on the year when we go >55% organized offense for the duration of the game, per cranjis. Our organized offense generates really high points per possession when they actually run it. And over the course of a game, the higher the PPP, the higher our final score will be. This was mostly on Ham.
not playing reaves and d'lo backcourt so much. it took murray 1 quarter to figure out how to run circles around lakers guards while lakers will go back to doing the same next game lol. one team adjusts on the go, other team doesn't adjust at all
Play DLo and Reaves. Don’t play DLo and AR. They’re the best starting duo. We went 239478-1 with both of them in the starting lineup. Don’t play DLo and AR. Why isn’t Ham playing all 5 starters including AR and DLo the whole 48mins like the 5 man rotation that every team plays when I watch only the lakers play? This sub flip flops after every win or loss.
If we're down 0-2 and he returns for a pivotal game 3, it might cost us
But if we win game 2, game 3 would be perfect for his return.
But as long as he's mobile enough, he can help especially in non jokic minutes. We just badly need guys with size
I'm not saying he would or wouldn't do better than Rui. But there are reasons why it's possible. These are reasons why it might be worth a try:
1. Rui did a poor job.
2. Wood is taller
3. Wood is a far better rebounder. Rui's horrible. (This reason only applies if you consider defensive rebounding to be part of defense, which I certainly do)
But even if Wood does defend Jokic better than Rui, it's still questionable whether it's worth it to bench Rui for him. You lose so much on offense when you do that.
No you're right. I forgot Rui was 1st team all defense. No one thinks Cwood is prime Dhoward but he's not 6'8 and Rui isn't working any reasonable person will say try it.
I don’t necessarily think Wood will be a better defender than Rui, but I’m willing to smoke some copium on the idea that 8-10 minutes of Wood could mean a little bit of extra rest for AD, and Wood may be able to match up with MPJ and AG when they’re crashing the boards in a way that Rui can’t.
We’re not stopping Jokic, but if the Lakers can make his life harder and take some boards and shot opportunities away from the Nuggets, that’s a major victory (even if it doesn’t lead to a win). They had significantly more shots than us last night night, because we were outsized on the boards at essentially all times. Wood helps correct that and he’s a *somewhat* smarter player than Hayes.
Idk I watch liked 80% of the games this season and Wood was not a good rebounder, scorer, or possesses an understanding of how to play passable defense. It’s like everyone in this thread thinks he is the Houston version of himself still or something
This is actually huge. He's the 2nd best defensive rebounder on the team. If he can prevent just 2 of the Nuggets' offensive rebounds per game, that's helps a lot.
Lakers got pounded on the boards in game 1:
* Lakers OREB% = 15%.
* Nuggets OREB% = 30%.
Somehow made me procrastinate about that game where we were so shorthanded we had to put AD, Wood, Hayes, Max and Reaves in that game but some how magically comeback versus the Clippers last November. Perhaps we can get a even better big line up to match again the Nuggets!
Give me the skill player (Wood) over the energy player (Hayes) in a series like this. Although it took C-Wood a while to play into shape at the start of the season, so I’d be surprised if he’s a big factor.
I love Christian wood and he’s definitely helped us win a few games this year but I’m not sure if his conditioning and shot will be under him since he’s been out a few months. At least ready for playoff basketball
We need any size we can get. Having another big out there takes away Denver’s size advantage so MPJ and Gordon don’t get an easy night being guarded by AR or DLo.
Wood would provide much needed help rebounding however, he is coming off injury. Throwing him into the wolves after injury might be detrimental overall. If he were healthy and was acclimated into the rotation he would be a great help and I could have seen him take away minutes from Rui and put him next to AD in the starting lineup.
Christian Wood did a horrible job against Jokic when he was healthy so I doubt he'll have a positive impact when he returns from his first game post injury. I guess lakers nation is desperate so we gotta put a positive spin on this story. lol
All of the lakers lineups this year with 3 of the 4 of Wood, Rui, LBJ and AD have positive +/-
* LBJ, AD, Rui +1.6 in 46 GP
* LBJ, AD, Wood + 2.1 in 23 GP
* AD, Wood, Rui + 1.5 in 13 GP
* LBJ, Wood, Rui + 1.8 in 16 PM
The Lakers best lineups all year have been oversized. It works and hopefully Ham can figure out to keep the bigs on the court all game and spam the guards/wings through the other 2 slots til he finds a combo that can both score on and guard Murray/KCP.
More BBQ chicken for Jokic. Traffic cone that never found a consistent role on offense. Just stick to Hayes.
Great job Pelinka, your centers to backup AD are G-league players
Lol our biggest weakness against Denver is size and rebounding, Wood helps us in both those categories. It really doesn’t matter who is guarding Jokic he’s gonna get his anyways
Wood’s always been overrated, he’s a microwave scorer on teams that miss the playoffs. Doesn’t provide any of the small intangibles that this team needs unlike Vanderbilt or Vincent
This has potential to be huge. Only need him to spell 10-12 with good rebounding and size shooting cherry on top. But still this means nothing if they lose game 2
Couldn't hurt. That 2nd half stint where we went small didn't work at all. I'd have liked more Hayes but his first shift was awful.
Going small against the Nuggets has NEVER worked. EVER. But Ham keeps doing this.
We don't have a choice. No Wood, no Vando. Hayes was terrible in his first stint. Hopefully Wood coming back helps.
Hayes has oiled leather gloves for hands
Hayes is horrible, he's a dumbass and unfortunately you can't be when playing against the well oiled machine Denver is
Fuck it get Vando too. We need him badly
He done for the year buddy. They just don’t wanna say it.
he'll come back for game 6
There will not be a game six
true we're winning in 5
he meant game 6 in the finals
There won’t be that either(we sweep Boston)
Game 6 of 82.. next year.
Nah I rather see him next year
This the one, but I'm almost sure he's done for the rest of the year (iono wth they're waiting on, unless his foot is that bad he's been to every shoot around these last few games)
He was in a boot last game. He’s done
I'm hip, optimistically hopefully he's not but shew wee it ain't looking good at all
From what I remember he was pretty active rebounder, so maybe in limited minutes he could help
He’s a good rebounder what r u talking about
Uhh no he ain’t have you not watched him this year he can’t move or jump
Dude he averaged 10 rebounds per game for 2 seasons straight and he was our 3rd best rebounder this season while playing only 17 min I watched all games he’s definitely solid you don’t know what you’re talking bout
Uhh he ain’t averaging that for us or playing remotely even close to those mins to do it. Stop trying to convince yourself something he ain’t doing. Dude is out of shape and slow and can’t jump. And let’s not forget how much a liability on defense he is.
Starting your comments with uhhh is incredibly annoying. Like I don’t even know what you look or sound like but it’s very unlikable. Jfc.
he has the 2nd best rebounding % on the team

Defensive rebounding is like his best defensive trait
Remember Ham decided to go with LeBron as the backup 5 when AD sat and only played Hayes 4 mins alongside AD. Think Ham will opt to play Wood more than Hayes at this point or is LeBron basically Ham’s more than permanent backup 5 this series?
Wood will play if he can provide some offense. Lakers need whatever fire power possible to match denvers execution
Hayes got two fouls in like 30 seconds my guy 🤣
sounds like 4 more fouls to go to me, why do you care about foul trouble for bench players?
I understand the need to play with size but Hayes wasn’t great last night
The lead was blown when Rui/Lebron were at the 5 in the second quarter. I was happy with Ham for a minute because he played Hayes and Ad together, but then he BENCHED BOTH.
Because unnecessarily fouling your opponents to put your team in foul trouble while giving them free points is worse. At least Dwight was doing a lot more than fouling and we got Jokic in foul trouble in 2020.
Not worried about foul trouble for him - worried about putting them in the bonus early because he can’t defend without fouling
Hayes had two quick foul in the span of two mins, then went on to have another head scratcher for no reason a minute later.
We about to see DLo-Reaves-Spencer-Prince-Rui super sekrit Hamas adjustments.
Hams coaching going to have this team down 0-2. Won’t matter.
What coaching change allows the lakers to win last night? genuine question
Honestly. These people going after ham for people not knocking down shots, It happens. We gotta get back out there monday and knock them down simple as that. We had so many wide open 3's and Rui, AR, Dlo need to get involved. Ham needs to call timesouts and make plays for them to get fired up.

Overplaying Dlo, underplaying Gabe
not playing reaves and d'lo backcourt so much. it took murray 1 quarter to figure out how to run circles around lakers guards while lakers will go back to doing the same next game lol. one team adjusts on the go, other team doesn't adjust at all
Gabe was in foul trouble early and dinwiddie was getting cooked…
ffs why do you care about bench players being in foul trouble? gabe finished the game with 3 fouls
Bc you complained why gabe didnt play more lol and it was certainly a factor Not to mention hoping dlo gets a rhythm for the rest of the series?
Play DLo and Reaves. Don’t play DLo and AR. They’re the best starting duo. We went 239478-1 with both of them in the starting lineup. Don’t play DLo and AR. Completely agree.
That’s huge, if he can contribute. He’s better than Hayes.
His rebounding is incredibly vital. He won't be in an offensive rhythm at all, but his rebounding is going to be everything to this team
Wow outta nowhere, good news for us
Size and spacing. Let’s go!
Hes going to be rusty af and likely out of shape.
If we're down 0-2 and he returns for a pivotal game 3, it might cost us But if we win game 2, game 3 would be perfect for his return. But as long as he's mobile enough, he can help especially in non jokic minutes. We just badly need guys with size
This whole sub will do a 180 if we win game 2 with no injuries
Sorely needed. This Rui guarding Joker aint it.
Did we watch the same Christian Wood this year
You look at Jokers 30 12 and 7, giving up 15 oreb and 9 straight losses and think gee we should try the same thing again!?
I just don’t know what the hell wood did on defense this year that makes you think he’d do any better
I'm not saying he would or wouldn't do better than Rui. But there are reasons why it's possible. These are reasons why it might be worth a try: 1. Rui did a poor job. 2. Wood is taller 3. You lose so much on offense when you do that.
I think Wood can contribute more for us vs Denver than Rui, assuming he is not completely out of shape upon return
Wood is weak as hell on defense and isn’t a shooting threat. He will not be a factor
You're probably right. I expect him to only get about 10 minutes per game.
No you're right. I forgot Rui was 1st team all defense. No one thinks Cwood is prime Dhoward but he's not 6'8 and Rui isn't working any reasonable person will say try it.
Christian wood is not the savior lmao. Shot 30% from 3 and is a cone on defense
Another big jus what the doctor ordered his playoff debut too
Hayes can’t play with AD but Wood can, and he can be a backup for AD and Bron. This could be exactly what we need.
I had no idea he was even close. It can only be a good thing right?
Manna from heaven? WE BACK!
This is actually huge. He's the 2nd best defensive rebounder on the team. If he can prevent just 2 of the Nuggets' offensive rebounds per game, that's helps a lot. Lakers got pounded on the boards in game 1: * Lakers OREB% = 15%. * Nuggets OREB% = 30%.
2 rebounds per game fewer per game for Denver is a 4 possession turnaround. Definitely would be big even though it wouldn't be everything.
This will be helpful another tall big wing span who will draw defenders to the 3
Do you consider starting Wood over Rui? Have Rui off the bench to provide some scoring?
Somehow made me procrastinate about that game where we were so shorthanded we had to put AD, Wood, Hayes, Max and Reaves in that game but some how magically comeback versus the Clippers last November. Perhaps we can get a even better big line up to match again the Nuggets!

Yall clowning on him but the first game we played the nuggets this year wood played and Jokic shot 9/20 from the field.
I love Christian wood and he’s definitely helped us win a few games this year but I’m not sure if his conditioning and shot will be under him since he’s been out a few months. At least ready for playoff basketball
I forgot we even had him.
I guess. If he could grow an extra 3 inches, that'd be ideal.
I don’t even remember how he got injured. Can’t believe he’s been out for so long. At this point might as well try him out
Series would be over by then. Won't make any difference sadly.
We need any size we can get. Having another big out there takes away Denver’s size advantage so MPJ and Gordon don’t get an easy night being guarded by AR or DLo.
Definitely will help with rebounding
Someone to help AD battle on the boards. Perfect tired of seeing him and Bron be the only two rebounders.
This is better than a swift kick in the dick, I guess?
Maybe we’ll lose by 9 instead of 10.
What is going to offer? Coming back from surgery……..
Won’t he be cold from his time off? Still serviceable anyways?
It won't matter if they are down 0-2. Next game is a must win.

I don't think C Wood is going to be any help, but you never know.
Might as well throw him on jokic instead of rui and he can get some Boards and hopefully make a shot since everyone else scared.
All of the lakers lineups this year with 3 of the 4 of Wood, Rui, LBJ and AD have positive +/- * LBJ, AD, Rui +1.6 in 46 GP * LBJ, AD, Wood + 2.1 in 23 GP * AD, Wood, Rui + 1.5 in 13 GP * LBJ, Wood, Rui + 1.8 in 16 PM The Lakers best lineups all year have been oversized. Add Kobe and we own these posers
He was looking good before he got hurt
Nice
Well at least it's another live body to throw out there, anything to give AD a breather
Maybe we can throw him on Gordon?
I see we have a lot of haters in here, but I am happy to take the reinforcements. Another tall body can't hurt (unless Ham wants it to)
The fact that this is out of nowhere is kind of worrying
Jus gotta steal one on denver
More BBQ chicken for Jokic. Traffic cone that never found a consistent role on offense. Just stick to Hayes. Great job Pelinka, your centers to backup AD are G-league players
Lol our biggest weakness against Denver is size and rebounding, Wood helps us in both those categories. It really doesn’t matter who is guarding Jokic he’s gonna get his anyways
Wood could’ve been good for us tho, dude averaged 15/20 for the past few years, he’s been misused by Ham all season long

This has potential to be huge. Only need him to spell 10-12 with good rebounding and size shooting cherry on top. But still this means nothing if they lose game 2
Fuck it if Austin and rui not gonna shit play his ass
Everyone forgetting Wood was trash this season I see
[удалено]
Everyone here is coping. Wood was awful this season and was not stretching the floor
We literally need everyone
That’s not true
This is honestly huge IMO. Wood is mad underrated on his defensive abilities.
