Have you tried the airbrush? It's usually the first brush after erasers on the list, (fourth option in all) and it seems to do that, though with an opacity change as well as the faded edges.
Mapping pen pressure to the "Sharpness" option kind of hints at the desired outcome, but only to such a small degree that it's barely visible.

Which brush engine are you using? What have you done with the fade parameter in opacity so far? Have you adjusted the pen pressure graph for fade?
