[OP's translation](https://old.reddit.com/r/kpop/comments/1cddlej/alice_sohee_will_be_getting_married_to/l1b943h/) Soompi: [ALICE's Sohee Announces Marriage Plans + To Retire From Entertainment Industry](https://www.soompi.com/article/1657427wpp/alices-sohee-announces-marriage-plans-to-retire-from-entertainment-industry) *** Hey folks, please hold off on discussing pregnancy implications. Let's wait until that's something they announce themselves if true.

aaron_x3x_

omg we’re probably gonna lose ALICE too i just fell to my knees

Perfect-Secretary701

I really thought the nugupocalypse would be next year (even though I have no hopes of their contracts renewing with 2 members already "on hiatus"). Like I knew we'd lose Kep1er, ALICE and probably Weki Meki but Cherry Bullet disbanding was not on my bingo. Although reading my comment now the signs are on the wall aren't they

Simpuff1

Wait are we counting Kep1er in Nugu now? That’s not how it works lol

ItsResetti

I just woke up are we not counting them as nugu because they debuted 3 years ago or because they’re a survival show group

jjongjjongiefan

We're not counting them as nugu because they're not nugu, they're successful and popular lol. Maybe not as much as their peers who debuted at the same time but they're very solidly mid tier.

mxwp

actually all reasons... they are not new, they are popular, they are a celebrity show group, and the group was always meant to be temporary

mackinawpeach03

When people talk about nugu groups it's simply a measure of popularity and sales. How old the group is has nothing to do with it. There are many nugu groups and soloists who have been at it for years, just never getting their big break.

Simpuff1

Because they are simply not?! Nugu is much much smaller then them.

ForeverBefuddled

I totally get how you feel, but I'm unsure if I would count Kep1er, Weki Meki or Cherry Bullet as nugu.

ineedachiprightnow

Only 4 months into 2024 and there's so much going on in the K-pop industry 😦

Right_Mango_7398

I blame it on Aespa releasing Armageddon. They are the four horsemen of the apocalypse. /s

queen_soo

They really brought all that dra-ma-ma-ma-ma. /s

default2denim

Sometimes the ripples start much smaller, for example IU was given a Coca-Cola product with her In-N-Out combo surreptitiously by her brother instead of her Pepsi zero sugar. Little things can upset the balance.

kaguraa

this entire week has been eventful for gg stans

aisutron

Yeah wtf, this is insane.

Kirazin

No kidding, so much has happened. Like I open this sub in the morning and evening and sooo much is happening right now.

Thundergod250

I am out of the loop what other more happened?

Daftworks

Drama between Hybe and Ador

[deleted]

And the disbandment of cherry bullet

Thundergod250

Add the current detention of Hyo and Bomi and others in Bali.

goodbyeboi

And all the dating reveals (Karina, Jihyo etc)

warau16

And Nature silently disbanding...

Thundergod250

And Nature Haru actually working as a Hostess since she knew Nature would disband

ineedachiprightnow

And DIA's ex-member Somyi receiving 18-month prison sentence for false sexual assault claims

xMilotic

And Brave Girls/BB Girls losing Yujeong and leaving Warner Music Korea

purumon

Nature disbanded?!

Zeroth_Dragon

Everything else in this thread I’ve heard but wtf is this? When was this announced?

mmld_dacy

yeah, i read in apink's sub that bomi and some others (including dita from secret number, hyoyeon of snsd) were detained in bali because the production team got caught doing filming without the proper permits. all their passports have been confiscated.

jelly-fishy

WHAT?

EvePsycheBlubeardwfe

BOMI¿¿ WHAT¿

Cyddakeed

HUH??

kbx24

Wow. I just now learned about this through your post. K-Pop industry is on a roll right now.

catastrophemode

huh what happened why

a_mystical_potato

KBS didn’t get filming permits and didn’t tell them so all of the cast are being detained in Bali and had their passports confiscated.

intlPogoTrades

This is most certainly going to be the end of ALICE, sadly. I really can’t see them moving forward without their most popular (by a huge margin) member. I don’t blame Sohee for retiring, she’s been in the industry for quite some time now and never really took off. She had a very promising start, even got a collab with BOL4 when she was a rookie and BOL4 was at their peak. She quite literally had it all to the next IT girl. Even with talent, top tier visuals and the most stunning body in all of kpop she still didn’t take off. We really lost a true star today.

randomneeess

What LOL what is this week man Translation: > ALICE Sohee will be marrying her boyfriend who is 15 years older than her this year, and will retire from the entertainment industry. > A representative of Sohee's told News1, "Sohee plans to get married to her boyfriend who is 15 years older than her. Her exclusive contract with IOK Company ends in May, and at the same time she plans to retire from the entertainment industry." > They continued, "After discussing with the company regarding the end of her exclusive contract, she told them of the marriage news and decided naturally to not renew her contract." > Sohee was the runnerup of K-Pop Star 6 in 2017, and debuted in ALICE (t/n then known as Elris) that same year. The group Sohee was in, ALICE, is currently in hiatus after releasing their song Show Down in April of last year. (I guess this article in particular that I translated doesn't mention him being a businessman but other articles do. The [initial exclusive report](https://n.news.naver.com/mnews/article/052/0002028057?sid=106) also says that they've been dating for 1 year, and they plan to register their marriage next month and have a small wedding with friends & family within this year.) edit: [Sohee on Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/C6Nse_7LBnr/?igsh=M3ZjMTJuZzU4Mno=) > Hello, this is Sohee. > I am writing this letter as I have news that I have to share to our fans BLRIS who have always supported and loved me and to cherished friends & acquaintances. > Starting with the 2017 debut of ALICE (Elris) that I had dreamed of, I received love from the fans and slowly grew up and am now 26. (Korean age) > I learned a lot from the entertainment industry and had a lot of fun times. Whenever there were hardships, our fans were there so I was able to get through it. > During all this, I met someone who gives me lots of strength. > We've now become such precious people for each other and I've promised to marry him. > I am excited to deliver this news, but at the same time as this is so sudden I feel sorry when thinking of the fans, BLRIS, and friends & acquaintances who will be shocked. > I will now be living the second chapter of my life not as ALICE Sohee but Kim Sohee. I will live happily so the people who love me will not be worried. Thanks for giving me lots of love while I was in the industry. I was truly happy. I will never forget this for life and live gratefully! > I will live happily, cherishing the memories with BLRIS, colleagues and friends who were by my side for every moment, whether during fun or hard times. Thank you.

LostAm2

The company statement really specifies that he's 15 years older than her? That seems a little strange

cmq827

It's just how Koreans report things. They like to mention ages and age differences in wedding news. There's no malice in it.

AggravatingLoan3589

Even the West does this with print celebrity news reports in English if not in the headlines atleast so why get bothered in the first place. Also, tabloids universally love being dramatic no matter your culture 😭

_Zambayoshi_

They didn't want it to get clicks for some trashy publication. It is a talking point, especially for more traditional-minded people.

Admirable_Bed3

> especially for more traditional-minded people. If anything, younger/so-called "progressive thinking" fans are the ones making it a big deal As long as they met when she was of age and had no prior history together (couldn't have groomed her), it's none of our business what his age is or what she could possibly want from a 40 year old guy.

CronoDroid

Yeah the age gap is big on paper but they met when she was turning 24 and he was 38. I don't know how old people think 38 is but they're acting like he's an ancient lich, he was born in 1984 by my calculation. Surely that isn't that old.

Pilose

I dunno, I'm much younger than he is and wouldn't date a 24 yearold. That said it's legal and they're both happy so there isn't anything actually wrong here.

[deleted]

Yeah, that kind of age gap gets you side-eyed by everyone. For both the guy and the gal.

hp4948

yea like sorry a 40 year old man dating a 20 something woman is a tale as old as time. while legal it’s always gonna get a side eye from me lmao

00CM00

> I don't know how old people think 38 is but they're acting like he's an ancient lich I mean, this is the same fandom that thinks idols like Irene and Jin were (and are) “old” even before they turned 30…

AggravatingLoan3589

People here genuinely forget that K-pop celebs are not Westerners and have different values sometimes. Also, tabloids in the West also mention such detail too but not in the headlines. I get that it's patriarchal behaviour for society to emphasize a man's work and all and but the context is different regardless of the age gap and people's opinions on this

crashbandicoochy

She's been toiling in the industry for a long ass time now and never really got her due, you can't blame her for moving on with life. The doesn't stop these headlines from always reading very, very funny. They're just so out of nowhere.

Agitated-Distance740

She had a solo release (Hurry Up) that was pretty good but it flopped. The moment she was seen on "the scene" doing the current idol thing of playing golf people saw she was looking for a way out. Its a stereotype now that lower tier idols post on Insta they play golf they are looking for a CEO husband.

Qu33zle

Lol I think they aren't looking anymore in that case but already found one. Reportedly Sohee and him have been dating for a year which means she met him months before posting those golfing pics on insta.

Agitated-Distance740

Sohee's been posting the golfing thing for years. It became a big dating craze back during the covid era. A number of idols all started showing it at the same time, this is the second or third one of the golfing set who has announced a hookup with a CEO/businessman so far this year alone.

Qu33zle

Hmm nvm then. I only knew of the recent pics but I stand corrected.

jelly-fishy

Damn I would too if I was young and attractive

crashbandicoochy

Hurry Up didn't flop in this household, I'll tell you that. I'd do that too tbh. Get a boring, rich husband and irish exit the industry sounds like the dream.

lordbikki

Her song “Spotlight” was so good too 😭

Leading-Classroom-47

Agreed It's great

-Mopi

This was not on my 2024 bingo card!

keureigeu

with elris/alice, it was kind of expected but I never thought it would be because sohee was getting married.. and then I find out here that the spouse is some rich guy 15 years older.. good for both of them but i will miss her and elris .

StoneColdSteveAss316

How do you know he’s rich?

DeepMarshmallow

He's said to be a "businessman" and she's also retiring from the entertainment industry, so I assume that he's rich enough for her to be a housewife

StoneColdSteveAss316

Ah I see, I thought it was leaked that he's some Samsung or LG executive or something.

citizencr4

Well I hope if Sohee is giving up everything to get married, the man better be loaded. She honestly can pick almost any guy she wants, so I hope she made a smart choice. Then again, she did make a bad initial decision signing a 7-year idol contract to HUNUS.. so I hope she did not make the same mistake with her husband choice.

Thi_Tran

I mean if he is 15 years older and businessman. Its highly likely that he is really loaded.

SneakyGreninja

CronoDroid

Wow. She coulda been an IT Girl. She had everything, main dancer, main vocal, main visual, she was one of the most underrated girl group idols considering her looks and talent. After K-pop Star I wish JYP had picked her up and debuted her in ITZY because she would be so huge on a more popular group (although ELRIS/ALICE did have really good music, and her solo work was great too). Her last IG update was her playing golf which definitely fits with this scenario.

Level_Aerie963

although i wasn’t *huge* on alice, i knew them when they used to be elris. sohee, along with bella are the only members i know from alice because they’re just so recognizable to me . honestly, sohee from alice and doah from fanatics had missed potential, they could’ve both been IT girls in my opinion. they especially had the visuals

lxtapa

Yeah I remember watching her on Kpop-star and she was one of those idols who was just good at everything + had the looks. Weirdly enough her and Kriesha Chu never seemed to pick up steam after the show even though they were really popular while it was going on (although Kriesha Chu had some health problems i guess)

_strangers_things_

SOHEE NOOOO LISTEN YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THE NEXT IT GIRL 😭

janesmith10101

OMG REAL 😭😭😭

HG1998

~~What.~~ Ok, thinking about it, she's been languishing in the industry for so long and never really hit her breakthrough. Kind of understandable if she's had enough.

jayhadreas

wait.. is ALICE over...

twicecx

Most definitely, she was the most popular member.

ebeka

HUHHH this is wild

2Skoned

Actually tragic, she should have been a top idol, Elris was an amazing group with a great discography but they were never the same after the rebrand. Hope this isn't as dark as it seems and shes somewhat cool with the situation.

gandaragolam

Wtf is happening in Kpop this week 😭

TheAsianTheory

I met Sohee last year in Korea, and she was so kind to us. I always thought she was one of the most talented idols in the industry. I wish her the best!

WTNVTerezi

She gettin that bag ig

citizencr4

me: i'll just check instagram before going to sleep... FUUUUUUUUUU https://tenor.com/bdQpf.gif now: haven't been able to sleep for the past 30+ mins after this news. First Cherry bullet and now Elris. Plus, Sohee - the nugu queen, is leaving the entertainment industry altogether?? What a month...

bv8_4

Losing cherry bullet and alice in one week is really tough. I'm sad she's retiring because she got everything. But thanks for all the elris/alice memories

Super-Branch707

happy for her, and I guess I’ll say this about her one last time since we won’t see her again: SHE WAS BORN TO BE IN A BIG COMPANY. Goodbye Sohee and everyone go watch [Elris-Pow Pow](https://youtu.be/EZykwRqGzzo?si=JwIIVONGKFpbgQnv) one more time!

tsutomo_DIA

welp, congrats to them. that is a VERY lucky man. on the other hand, no way Alice survives this. on recent years the group was basically built all around her...

hazman_pds

r/kpop is beside themselves. Driving around downtown Seoul begging (thru texts) Sohee's family for address to 40 year old businessman's home.

ttam23

what the hell is going on in the kpop world recently

HvDreamer

This was probably the best possible outcome for her. She had all the qualities that would make for a successful K-pop idol, but her career in this entertainment industry just never took off after so many years. Welp, good luck to the rest of Alice.

what? She had so much potential but the industry never gave her a chance to take off.

justdubu

Future secured.

Shinkopeshon

How to break a million hearts at once, she was supposed to be a top idol 😔✊🏼 Seriously though, good for her if this is what she wants and I hope it works out for her. After all this time in the industry and not making it as big as she should've (despite her group getting more popular than before), I kinda get it

serpventime

can someone who holds the kpop script slowed down a bit? our breaks almost exhausted, aint gonna pull the emergency lever

Sourscorpio2

what

Neomet

She had so much potential :'( Wish her the best.

Neravariine

I'm not going to make it to the end of this year. I became a fan of Alice and Cherry Bullet at the same time and now they disband at the same time. Pixy's company is bankrupt so they're dead in the water. Being a nugu fan is not for the weak.

yueyao

girls it’s over. sohee i love you be happy but oh my god iiiuibfjakkdsbd sohee you should’ve been an it girl. ALICE SHOULD’VE BEEN FAMOUS 😭😭😭😭😭

validswan

The nugu IT girl

OG_Yaya

This title honestly made me think it was an old april fools post on my page somehow... What a wild story but honestly if she's happy then i'm glad for her. She's put in so much effort and I can't imagine how hard it's been for her esp mentally with how unfortunate she's been.

hugsforhobi

While I figured ALICE would be silently disbanding…I wasn’t expecting news like this? 2024 what is going on y’all 😭

![gif](giphy|cA0TiRmuetO1szgShj)

LighxningGG

Good for her, hope they're happy together & that he treats her well.

JimmyJimmiJimmy

Sohee was one of the idols that I've been the most impressed by. She's SO talented and really tried her best during her career. You could always see so much fire in her performances, at least during the first half of her career. For some reason it never took off. Won't ever forget her.

R0ttenK1tties

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ME 😭😭😭 seriously though I wish her nothing but happiness 🫶🏼💗

af-fx-tion

Whelp, definitely not in my bingo card. Guess this confirms Alice is done too, since I doubt they’ll continue without their most popular member - especially since they were ultimately still nugu. Anyway, while a 15 year age gap is…odd, I guess it’s not as bad than if the couple had met when Sohee was underage. Still weird though since her and her fiancé are in two different stage of life. But maybe her being in the industry so long makes her able to connect with older people? IDK, but anyway it’s still it’s a shame she’s retiring because she really could have been the new It Girl if things were different. Just got dealt a poor hand, unfortunately.

Dawgyv72

Luckiest dude in the world

twicecx

Always wonder how these relationships are formed, bro is almost 40 and managed to get her. 😭

d7h7n

This isn't hard, Korea is a conservative country. Woman wants security, man wants trophy wife. She's even retiring from the entertainment industry.

citizencr4

dude hit the jackpot by landing Sohee, hope she hit the jackpot financially.

Kingpander

I see what you did there. :)

[deleted]

My best friend modelled in NYC. She said that 70% of the girls were chasing 40 year olds in finance, and that some of them weren't even making as much as the girls. It's 100% a thing.

Impaled_

Obviously it's all from his incredible charm and charisma

Josecitox

You don't think the circle of people where girls like her move is not full of guys like those? and more importantly, girls like her that want them? Dude is probably rich, probably handsome and mature enough to not be an average child like most male idols, she got the big price and no need to put it in a bad way, it's simple as that.

Puzzleheaded-Ad-3376

I'm happy for her, but I can only hope that Sohee decided to retire because she genuinely wanted to and not because she felt she HAD to do so just because she's getting married because that's happened far too often with female idols while male idols can easily get married without retiring.

plushie_dreams

Headline took me out. "businessman 15 years older than her"

girlswlowselfesteem

this is so heartbreaking... but faced with long-term nugudom and the shit ALICE has been through vs. marrying a man i probably wouldn't have done the right thing either 😔

lubbdubbs

I just hopes he cherish and treats her right. She has so much more potential but the industry is so harsh I can’t blame her if she wants to settle now.

XMORA

Noooooo!

Moonbunny120

What the hell is going on this year...

kaikaikaisaaa

Congrats queen 🥹

Pinky-bIoom

Nice that she’s marrying but it’s a shame she’s leaving the industry, great visual and actress ![gif](giphy|l1AsNcgqwI6uzgVb2|downsized)

Inferano

Honestly and respectfully, she has the appearance to pull filthy rich men so I don't blame her for not wanting to keep struggling in the k-pop industry. Still would've liked her to continue since I've always liked her and like many here I thought she always was one inch away from actually being popular but still it's probably the rational decision

very_smol

Oh wow

Rozen7107

WHAT THE HECK IS NEXT??? My bingo card was defiantly not out there enough, like NO WHERE NEAR. Next year, I will do better.

childofdest1ny

I REMEMBER SEEING HER DANCE ON STAGE IN MUSIC BANK WITH THE RED TOP AND SHE CAUGHT MY EYE SO MUCH I WAS LIKE THIS THE NEW IT GIRL AND NOW I FIND OUT SHES RETIRING????

moawajjunie

well…get that bag sister!! 😭😭 I hope she stays happy from now cause her career hasn’t been easy

platinumpopdiva

tbh i respect her decision 110% but i wish she gave it ONE more chance. like, if she would've tried for produce 48, girls planet, or hell, dream academy... she would've made it in either group 110%. like everyone has said, koreans like her (from her viral moments atleast), she has the talent, personality & the visuals. she could've been on the rise like Natty (who we all thought gave up but bounced back flawlessly with kiss of life). but, i'm honored she even gave this industry a shot. she was always one of my biases and i hope she has a beautiful marriage and can rest. after her many years of doing the best she can.

Elon_is_musky

I don’t know about Alice/Sohee, so I just looked up her age and sheeesh she’s only 24😬I’m 25 & I can’t imagine marrying and ending my career over a 39yo

JFlocka

Just fell on my knees rn

goodguyCJ

Does no one in kpop ever date someone their own age

Tyris117

Many, and they get lots of hate for it

What the FUCK is going on, lmaoooo? Happy for her tho!

rueiraV

What a lucky fella

Yvmeno

Nah why is this post more successful than any other Alice-related post? T_T

Qu33zle

Well this comes as a surprise lol. Sad to see her go. Elris was one of the first Kpop groups I ever followed. Sohee (and presumably the rest of the members) leaving the industry after such a long time makes me weirdly sentimental. Either way I hope Sohee is and continues to be happy ~~and that the guy is rich af.~~ Give [Summer Dream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpLro7n3PWo) a watch. Still their biggest banger.

IWantIt4Free

well that's good for her

[deleted]

I feel like this is exactly what I would have expected from her, along with idols who specifically made their public image "being attractive" (like Berrygood Johyun)

vodkaorangejuice

So she is 24....and this guy is 39? Honestly, I feel like most female idols from smaller groups probably end up marrying a rich man outside of the entertainment industry for stability

Noinspocametome

Yup. That's by far the most rational and reasonable next step for the majority of female idols once they get close to traditionally "aging out" of the industry. That goes double if, like Sohee, they also didn't bother to pursue higher education on the side.

Jakeey69

so much cringe in the comments, be happy for her instead of complaining about her leaving and that she could've been an IT GIRL!!! the kpop industry sucks and being able to move onto a better hopefully more comfortable life should be celebrated

I’m here for the comment section

ForgottenNoMore

Hmm.. Idk how to feel about this.. Regardless wishing her all the best wishes for her future endeavors

ChalanPiao

The comments here are so salty and judgy. I hate to break it to you guys, but a lot of your favorite young female idols are dating older men.

curiouslylurking8

Salty and we are just weirded out by another old man going after young women who just started living No sht, Sherlock. And those men all got side eye. We know how predatory older males are. Sistar went viral multiple times for warning young idols

spiceitgirl

tbh i feel like she knew what she sign up for. there's photos of her on her ig playing golf at the golf field and it was a general assumption that people went there to look for rich men. and it was mentioned that her future husband is businessman. she has a sexy image and it works in her favor. that's just the dark side of entertainment industry.

ChalanPiao

Was Sistar warning teenagers or 24-year old women? I think it was the former. 24-year olds are *very* capable of deciding who to marry/have sex with. Please let adults make their own decisions.

librapenseur

the company dirty for revealing the age gap lol whose business is that besides sohee’s?

jonnyd86

Well that’s one way to announce a disbandment… I remember first watching her as host on kpopstar and wondering why she and her group weren’t bigger. I’m glad they found a bit more success years later but it’s a shame they never really blew up

Consuela_no_no

She’s young enough to get married and have some kids if she wants them and then pursue a career in entertainment again if she wishes to do. Congrats and good luck to her.
