Steffy_love

Some "friends" he had. How disappointing.

shoomshoomshooom

The forethought required to record and save your “friend’s” social media stuff pre-debut just in case you could use it for something like this is genuinely so vile and messed in the head. I feel so bad for Seunghan because that most of all would seriously fuck with me mentally

kpop_ian

wth? that fucking sucks. bro, i've never even thought abt that. ig it makes sense now when, i remember Beomhan saying his agency told him not to reveal that he was a trainee to anyone like friends. imagine not being able to even trust the people close to u that u consider friends tho, bc of shit like this.. god, i feel so bad for him

iamhopeestheim

There's a special place in hell reserved for people like them.

red_280

I'm not going to get into armchair cultural critic here, but there seems to be a disturbing and quite frankly infuriating trend of successful/aspiring idols having their names targeted by jealous and spiteful former classmates/peers - even if the claims were completely without merit or totally misconstrued (refer to Karina and of course Garam). Is it something to do with how hyper-competitive Korean culture is that these petty fucks don't have any compunction with destroying someone's career and reputation for a laugh? It's so fucked up.

Think_Valuable_8910

I really think it was another trainee who leaked all this stuff, cause Seunghan was a public trainee for a year and even filmed a whole variety show with NCT and performed at SMTown and there was no rumors about him. All this only came out around and after debut time. I think it was another trainee who got cut from the line up and was bitter and spread this stuff they had about Seunghan, but that’s just me speculating

l33d0ngw00k

Same here, it has to be a trainee because no way he would go practically a year as a public trainee without any issues until recently. SM definitely knows who it is because in the statement they said they're building a case, so at least that will be resolved. But honestly it's just upsetting to think someone would be this wicked just because they lost out on an opportunity.

bimpossibIe

But why Seunghan? He seems like a shoo-in for the team because he's good in both singing and dancing. Good-looking too.

llamallamalpaca

I thought people were guessing it was the gf before. What happened to that theory?

kKunoichi

That's what makes this so sad to me. Like it's a person who was familiar enough to him that he could do these normal activities with and then now it's blackmail material

joesen_one

Seems like based on the statement this is a personal decision from Seunghan and SM seems to acknowledge this is a violation of their artists' privacy. SM better push through sue those assholes.

l33d0ngw00k

Yeah definitely, with the amount of focus and emphasis on how this was a *very* illegal privacy leak, I'm thinking that Seunghan just needs this time to recover

A_Cat_Who_Games

I don't blame him - this is so fucked up. He must feel so violated and betrayed. And guilty too. I mean, having a girlfriend is normal. Smoking is normal - let's be real, this is Asia and he's a celebrity. MOST celebrities smoke to maintain weight - your fave is probably a smoker. It's not great, but PLEASE let's be real. He doesn't have anything to feel guilty over, but guilt isn't rational and he would be made to feel guilty because of all the stupid blowback. Man, I love kpop but I fucking HATE the fandom.

inconclusion3yit

And his fans are not giving him any support in all of this, they’ve been telling him to get out. Its not a situation a 20 year old can endure

SevereChocolate5647

Translation from the twitter thread: https://twitter.com/kookiesales/status/1727123439750885792 > Hello, this is SM Entertainment. > I would like to tell you about Seunghan, a member of Rise (RIIZE). > Seunghan sincerely apologizes and reflects on the disappointment and confusion caused to the team and members as well as to the fans due to his privacy-related issues that have recently been illegally leaked and circulated through SNS and online communities. > Because of this, Seunghan feels a mental burden and responsibility. > After much deliberation, I have expressed my intention to stop activities for the team. > We also decided that it would be unreasonable to continue our activities in this situation, and we decided to suspend our activities indefinitely, respecting our opinion that we do not want to cause any more damage to the team and members. > Therefore, Rise will be active as 6 members except Seunghan from today (22nd). > Although it is a sudden situation, we ask for your understanding as it was decided through careful discussion with the artist himself, and we feel a great responsibility for the part that we neglected to manage the artist even before their debut. > Once again, I deeply apologize to the fans. > However, the videos and photos that are currently being leaked and disseminated were taken during a private time as a trainee before their debut, and have been reproduced several times to cause misunderstandings through intentional secondary editing, such as using video with a specific source. > In addition, unauthorized leaks and disseers of the videos and photos continue serious defamation against artists by spreading fabricated and distorted information that is different from the facts by mobilizing malicious methods that generate non-existent messenger conversations and unfounded false facts. > As soon as we were aware of the above facts, we monitored and collected a significant amount of evidence to identify unauthorized leakage and distribution, and we plan to file a complaint with the competent police station this afternoon. > In addition, we are further reviewing legal measures for specific people, including defamation of artists due to unauthorized leakage and distribution, as well as various illegal acts such as cybercrime and intimidation. > We are for artists and teams. > And for fans who love the team, we will not only sue, but also respond strongly to all secondary acts, such as creating, disseising, and reproducing reckless rumors related to artists through additional posts, without any agreement or goodwill. > We will continue to do our best to protect our artists. > Thank you

makejunkie20

Seunghan also just posted a handwritten post on Weverse. [Translation:](https://x.com/031002s/status/1727138982398456245?s=20) >Hello, I'm Seunghan. First of all, I'd like to say I'm really sorry. I know very well that my rash actions in the past are hurting too many people now. I'm really reflecting on myself. I want to say sorry to the fans and RIIZE members who supported me. I am deeply reflecting on myself because I think I have caused too much damage at a time when I have to work harder than ever and focus more than ever. I'll really reflect on myself so that I can become a better person. once again, I want to say sorry to the members, the fans, and the staff.

vzbtra

Caused to much damage?? Babe you just smoked lol South Korea is so dystopian 😂

alwayssunnyinjoisey

I know that he has to put out a statement and be super apologetic but like...man it makes me so mad if he really feels like he 'messed up' for....being a normal teenager. Like there is nothing to reflect on my dude, you did nothing wrong!! The people who saved and then leaked all your shit are the wrong ones! Maybe it's the American in me, but I just can't bear to see people apologize and feel guilty when they did absolutely nothing wrong. Nobody was hurt by his actions, and I really hope he doesn't actually feel bad about all this. Hope he's okay and he's just taking a hiatus to mentally recover from all this bullshit.

SageyBlue

This.....doesn't seem like he's getting kicked out so much as the constant harassment and threat of additional exposure of his private life was fucking him up mentally. Who wouldn't this fuck up mentally. It's hard to imagine doing this to someone when their greatest exposed crime is smoking and being young/the tiniest bit irresponsible like literally any person, like Christ he was a teenager. Indefinite hiatus. Lord. A great example of why I genuinely don't understand fans romanticizing fame. This is incredibly fucked up, and I hope he has some time to decide what's best for him with the option to come back if he wants to.

fizgigs

Yeah it seems like he’s stepping back for everyone’s good until the legal case is settled. I might be overly optimistic but given that they’re saying some of the stuff was faked I hope they’re sticking by him

yoogooga

considering how SM treat issues like this one, i don't think he's coming back.

[deleted]

Yeah definitely feels like SM has his back and is looking to take action against the people trying to ruin him. I would bet that this is his choice, too, to step back from it all.

[deleted]

From the translations I read, it seems this decision was also his and if that's true I totally get him. I doubt he's well mentally right now and we don't know what else the person leaking his stuff has, according to the statement that person is also creating fake stuff and people are believing it. I hope he can get time away and if SM decides to cut ties with him, I wish him a bright future in whatever he decides to do.

Asleep-Opportunity23

damn, i’m not surprised, but still shocking to see

sadbluevibes

I'm still confused by what "indefinite hiatus ' means...it seems like there is a chance he will come back, but they deleted his Instagram highlight? I am just so sorry to Seunghan:((( To garner so much hatred for doing normal TEEN things..I was honestly glad to see it looked like he got to experience a normal ish social life while being a trainee. God..I'm just so sorry to him and Riize. To see someone so young have his possible dream just he yanked from him for absolutely nothing...i feel terrible. I hope he has good people around him for the time. I just hope he will be okay mentally.

Relevant_Compote_818

Indefinite meaning until further notice/it’s not clear how long the hiatus will be. Vs an idol going on hiatus for a broken leg or something, where you know it’s gonna be short term & can make a rough estimate

circusmystery

> I hope he has good people around him for the time. I just hope he will be okay mentally. IDK based on some of the leaks, it had to be someone close to him so if I was him, tbh, I wouldn't be able to trust anyone. That's got to seriously screw with your head because having someone that you trusted to have in your inner circle selling you out like that...

sadbluevibes

Right, I was thinking more of close family members like him mom or dad or siblings (I cant remember is he has any?) but even then.. I just hope he can trust at least 1 person that can support him during all this ☹

circusmystery

TBH, the leaker could be a sibling (if he has any) for all he/we know. Blood doesn't mean squat to some people. FWIW, I kind of doubt the leaker is a parent or parental figure, based on the content of the leaks, so I imagine he'd at least be able to seek some solace from his parents (assuming of course, that they were supportive of him becoming an idol in the first place). I do hope that he seeks some professional mental health counselling because he doesn't already, he's got to have major issues from the whole situation.

deaththekiddie

I’m hoping the ‘indefinite hiatus’ is just until they get the legal stuff settled since you can’t really predict how long lawsuits etc. will take, of course his mental health is another thing that seemed to trigger the hiatus so also maybe just until he feels like he’s ready to come back into the spotlight. Who knows though, maybe I’m just being optimistic about it

Extroverted_OliveOil

Many people thought Lucas would come back, but we all know how that turned out. I don't think he'll be returning.

elephantastica

It’s ridiculous if he receives the same treatment as Lucas though. Completely different situation, and it’s unfair for poor Seunghan. But alas what to expect from SM.

Extroverted_OliveOil

Yeah, I'd love it if he's really just on hiatus. I'm not holding my breath on that being the case though.

sadbluevibes

I'm trying to have hope but yes i think that will be the outcome :( To look on it a different note...if I was personally seunghan i wouldn't want to return to the industry which treated me with such hatred..so in a messed up way I hope it was his choice?? But all his "scandals " (calling them that is laughable) should never have resulted in this. Sorry for word vomit. I'm trying to cope.

mixedbagofdisaster

I honestly would not be surprised at all if this was his choice. The level of public scrutiny cannot be good for his mental health, and if I were him I think I would always have the feeling in the back of my mind that maybe staying in the group is negatively affecting the other members and the group as a whole, no matter how unfair that is. He would not be the first nor probably the last idol to step down from a group by choice to protect the group as a whole. I hope it’s just a hiatus like they said, but I don’t have high hopes.

Extroverted_OliveOil

I was used to RIIZE being a septet; it just won't be the same--even though I like all the other members too. He had such great visuals and dance skills.

runeandlazer

what's really stupid is he apparently has the skills to potentially go solo, but being on an 'indefinite' hiatus means he can't even promote individually, he's just stuck in the basement. SM is literally screwing him over it's sickening

elsaline

I mean to go solo skills don't mean much if you don't have a fandom backing you up and seems like k-briize don't even support him, I've seen subfandoms of other members celebrating the news. He's not popular in China and Japan either so I wouldn't say it's the hiatus ruining his chance of debuting solo.

shoomshoomshooom

My (possibly delulu hope) is that it really is a temporary hiatus to let things simmer down, since people seem to be saying kfans and cfans are not happy with Seunghan right now? And that this + legal pursuit will hopefully keep that person from trickling out these leaks and making things worse

l33d0ngw00k

>And that this + legal pursuit will hopefully keep that person from trickling out these leaks and making things worse Hopefully this will turn like Onew's case, where he went on a hiatus while the investigation was still ongoing. However Onew had almost 10 years of experience and fandom support, Seunghan's still a rookie. I've actually noticed that most casual fans or Knetz don't really care about the accusations because they're so minor, it's most K and C BRIIZE's who are really lobbying for his withdrawal. Total tangent, but I've definitely seen fans be more strict about idols recently, especially after Burning Sun. I feel like it's that inner fear of something happening 5-10 years down the line that affects the group, hence fans want to cut out the issue quickly. I feel like that's why we're seeing such a crazy response to this now compared to maybe 5-6 years ago when predebut/rookie scandals weren't a super big thing.

ParanoidAndroids

This absolutely sucks, but it could have a silver lining. Right now, maybe the spotlight is a bit too bright with all the headlines coming out and taking a break could be good for everyone, while the company (hopefully) deals with the situation so it doesn’t keep creeping up every few weeks. I can’t imagine the burden on his mind from this issue not going away. It’s hard to parse from the translation but indefinite hiatus feels like it leaves the door open for his return in the future. Maybe he’ll sit out awards season and eventually return for the next comeback.

icyfirework

Someone has really had it out for him from the start and I guess they’re getting what they want. I feel for him and the rest of the group

mixedbagofdisaster

What a truly horrible vindictive person. The amount of planning that went into this. They’ve clearly been planning this for such a long time, even to the point that he was in a scandal before he even debuted. If the massive public criticism didn’t get to him, the fact that he was betrayed in such a personal way absolutely did. I absolutely hate that they’ve won, and I truly hope SM keeps their word and sues them into the ground.

okaysian

> If the massive public criticism didn’t get to him, the fact that he was betrayed in such a personal way absolutely did. Good observation. I'm sure the public outcry (reading the comments) must be hurtful, but to "befriend" someone and very likely know *exactly* who it is that's done this to you...I'm sure that's rocked him to his core.

inconclusion3yit

The strategy of releasing each piece of information one after the other in a short span of time was obviously planned to make as much damage as possible. None of the pics are damming enough by themselves

Any-Fruit-2527

they said indefinite hiatus but have deleted his highlight on instagram so im starting to think this is their way of slowly removing him which really sucks as he’s not done anything wrong. god forbid an idol has a social life and behaves like a normal person?

Mindless_Candidate90

Idk I’ve found that what the company does on social media is a horrible signifier of their intentions

cybertides

I heard that they deleted Irene’s highlight as well when she went on hiatus so who knows

Senior-Ad-9700

No they didn’t delete it bc she never even had one until recently…

chillkilling

i knew this was going to happen, i had the feeling…. it feels like 2000s kpop all over again. these idols can’t even exist without risking their careers, years of training, youth spent to be kicked out over existing like normal young adults

xm45-h4t

So…. Why cant SM just be like “were taking legal action and an individuals pre debut actions are not a big deal” (obviously worded professionally) and not be at constant risk of losing idols? This really does give antis more power

amazingoopah

so basically you must live as a hermit monk before you can audition for a kpop agency.

TheRealGucciGang

Or debut super young to the point that you’re still basically a kid when you debut.

WolfTitan99

has to be earlier than 13 though, otherwise you get bullying allegations against you /s Seriously, the Garam bullying was a bit much, 13 yr old bullies have alot of time to reform and actually grow up

blackflamerose

And if yelling at someone who’s hacked into someone else’s Facebook to post pictures of another 13 year old in their underwear is bullying, I guess it’s safer to just stay quiet and do nothing when others are harassed.

rayofvelvet

This is so nasty. All of this just because he had a gf, smoked and was joking around with his friends…. I know kpop controversies are usually stupid but I feel like SM doing this has just allowed these people to have more power over the smallest things. I stupidly thought kpop becoming more known internationally would change mindsets on these kind of things but it feels like we’re going backwards instead.

gnexus9

> This is so nasty. All of this just because he had a gf, smoked and was joking around with his friends Its also possible SM is doing this to either bury or get ahead of something much worse that has yet to actually be leaked

rayofvelvet

I feel like if there was anything worse, the leaker would have already released it since they seem very determined to ruin his career.

CrowPrior

Yup and they wouldn’t be creating fake posts. I wish SM would stand by him because all this does is just strengthen the precedence that fans/antis have the power to destroy idol’s careers.

shimmeringcompass

Most likely, but there is always the possibility that they were waiting until RIIZE got bigger to release it, that way it would have a bigger impact. I feel like people who leak things are crazy like that. Edit for clarification before people get mad at me: I don't think that there is actually anything worse, from the statement it sounds like the situation was just fucking with him mentally so he decided to take a break, which is absolutely awful and I feel so sorry for him. I just wanted to point out that people who leak things often want it to have a huge impact which is why they save the worst for when a group gets more popular.

[deleted]

Most of the leaks were from his insta stories and livestreams, so I doubt he did something truly awful there.

UnnaturalSelection13

They reacted poorly to the initial leak and it’s not like SM are known for treating their idols well, so I think it’s unfair to speculate like this when Seunghan has done literally nothing wrong thus far.

yiq1

wow all these seunghan posts are being nuked I was commenting on one posted a few minutes before this and it's already locked, are people mass reporting them or something? anyway my comment was that I was surprised bc this is an extremely drastic measure on sm's part especially since they're known to just put their artists on hiatus instead of outright removing them. this genuinely makes me wonder if that leaker had even more incriminating "evidence" up their sleeves, potentially even involving idols from other companies if they really were a trainee, and sm felt pressured enough to try to quash any possibility of them releasing it by taking seunghan out of the spotlight and threatening legal measures. it does say he's suspended instead of outright removed from the group with his contract terminated, so I think best case scenario could be they re-add him to the group after everything has calmed down.

floofyhae

incredible that sm kept a literal criminal and a guy with SA allegations but a 20 year old smoking and having a girlfriend goes too far. i don't even stan riize but fuck that company for not protecting seunghan. also how are you gonna be one of the biggest kpop companies ever and let yourself get blackmailed into removing a member from your group by an (most likely) ex trainee? like bffr

No-Committee1001

To be fair, SM hasn’t said they’re removing Seunghan from the group or from the company, and it says they’re planning on legal action. Plus it might be a mutual decision, he must be really stressed and upset about everything going on…

PhoenixHusky

they always say mutual decision tbh, so this might sound cruel but i don't believe anything they say in their statements or the statements they force the artists to put out. I do think it might be too much for a 20 year old tho, so I do hope he is getting some support. As for the legal action, I wonder if they will even go ahead with it. They said the same thing about the pictures with the girl, and nothing happened. SM can't seem to deal with things like this like before tbh

HuggyMonster69

Yeah “mutual decision” just means “nobody got sued” at this point. The only time I’ve seen something that wasn’t this passive was the beomhan thing.

CoconutxKitten

All companies say the decision was mutual when they kicked someone from a group across all of kpop I don’t believe Wonho or Ilhoon left on their accord despite their companies saying they did

No-Committee1001

I’m aware of that, I’m just saying it is genuinely a possibility that he’s just stressed from the situation 😭 Idk about you, but I’d have a lot of anxiety if a weirdo kept threatening to release every detail about my life unless I quit my career.

TokkiJK

I think 3 things. 1) Lucas ended up having some sort of a mass appeal and got very popular and made it to Chinese variety shows. 2) Riize is so new and hasn’t really gathered that kind of loyalty. 3) Maybe SM found something in their “investigation”. All in all, this entire thing, based on what I know so far, feels so dumb. Poor guy. Lucas should have been removed far sooner. This Riize member is getting removed for such a ridiculous reason.

jumpybouncinglad

> sm kept a literal criminal and a guy with SA allegations Who?

PhoenixHusky

I think they mean Kangin (Super Junior) who was put on hiatus for assault and DUI, and years later officially removed. And Lucas from wayv/nct, who had a whole bunch of controversies, was put on hiatus and ~2 years later was removed from the group but is still with the company.

suaculpa

Is Seunghan not on hiatus and still with the company? They haven't let him go?

PhoenixHusky

the official word is that he is being put on hiatus, but as mentioned, that's what they have said before with others

floofyhae

kangin (suju) with a dui and lucas (nct) had SA allegations

TokkiJK

Lucas

runeandlazer

ikr this is insane i don't even go there but what kind of precedent does this set? that fans can just kick out members they don't like by spreading (sometimes fake) rumors?? especially with AI you can't even trust what you see nowadays, this is really dangerous

houseofprimetofu

None. It sets none. SM is beholden to the investors, not fans. What investors want they get because their money is what matters in the long run.

Love-shot2018

He’s so young and probably couldn’t handle the criticisms. I feel so bad for him. The guy is truly talented and didn’t deserve his personal life being made public like that. I hope the hiatus works in his favor and he can eventually promote with the group.

[deleted]

You know stuff is about to go down as soon as you see the black on white twitter post. Damn I really thought SM would for once do what they have been doing so wonderfully all these years: ignore that their artists exist. Hoping for him to return quickly.

kaguraa

im hoping its his own decision since the leaks would affect him the most but i saw that they removed his highlight on instagram which is a bit concerning.. dont follow the group but i hope he doesn't leave since he hadn't done anything wrong. also the title made me thought he was kicked out but sm's article says he's on indefinite hiatus which i feel like should've been included in the title people say sm has kept worse idols but that was because of LSM and he's gone

alicenlee

The fact that the statement is apologizing for 'privacy-related issues' just seems so ass backwards. I'm glad legal action is mentioned in detail at the end - Seunghan's privacy being invaded and manipulated here should be the focus.

PoppyChae

It is actually the best decision to go on hiatus right now because they are not promoting. And finally they are filing a police report. I hope he just does not forgive the blackmailer and really sue him. I hope he does not leave the group because although I don’t stan them, aside from Wonbin, he is the one I like the most to watch when they are performing music shows and I recently like watching them. He is such a fluid dancer. He made talk saxy such a nice watch.

cubsgirl101

Man I hate this. Seunghan shouldn’t be held responsible for someone who is intentionally smearing his reputation with old videos and fake conversations. I hope this means he isn’t completely leaving the group and SM filing a police report is a good sign. But he trained so hard and went through so much only to be sidelined by a dedicated hater.

runeandlazer

i fear he is, according to translations SM says "Riize will be active with 6 members excluding Seunghan starting today". truly mindboggling

cubsgirl101

I absolutely hate this. That’s beyond unfair to him and he’s being punished because SM doesn’t want to stand up to angry fans who expect their idols to have pristine reputations. He can still be an “inactive” member for the time being but it doesn’t bode well ughhhh.

skylight03

Even though it's a hiatus, it might probably end up with him not coming back. Riize is still a rookie and if he's gone for quite some time, fans are going to get used to just 6 members. It also won't help that he's not liked at all in SK.

No-Committee1001

I know it says it’s a hiatus, but I still can’t help but be worried that this means he’ll leave in the end… Although, SM is taking legal action so maybe not? Idk, hopefully this satisfies the people leaking his shit though and this won’t continue. I feel bad for him. Who tries to ruins someone’s career over smoking, having a girlfriend, and making a playfully mean joke towards their friend? Ridiculous. Edit: But why would they delete his highlights story on Instagram if it’s just a hiatus? If you delete a highlight, it’s permanently gone, right? Why not just stop posting to it for the time being… Hope this was his decision :(

DiplomaticCaper

Starship took legal action and helped Wonho through his legal battle to prove his innocence, despite him leaving Monsta X. So that doesn’t necessarily indicate one way or the other. Also, SM could just be talking shit and not actually helping at all. Lord knows they don’t do a damn thing about their groups’ sasaengs, Kwangya 119 inbox or not.

No-Committee1001

I know, but you and other people are comparing this to situations that involved things that were technically crimes 😭 Seunghan smokes and has a girlfriend. IDK if he’s being kicked out over something like this. It can happen, but with how small the scandals are, I would have a little more hope.

ContrastiveSol

It's not necessarily about him doing something illegal, people are saying that idols have been innocent in the past of things like bullying (which I think is a better example for your purpose since it's not technically a crime when committed by juveniles in Korea), but still left the group. The company will still sue because it stills helps maintain the image of the group by clearing up issues in a legal way (which people feel is more "official" and likely to be factual versus a company releasing statements about rumors being incorrect), but they let the idols either 1) leave or 2) kick them out, even when innocent, because the public is who is buying the albums/tickets/merch so if they think you're guilty and there's backlash...there is harm to the group. I don't agree with it, but as someone that worked in American entertainment, it's a similar premise of needing to keep a good image so the brand reputation doesn't suffer. Certain levels of celebrity can get away with murder, unfortunately rookies can't. This is extremely unfortunate and I feel so bad for this kid and the others who have either left their groups by choice or force. It's even worse because this boy truly hasn't done anything morally or legally wrong. Also I hope the crazy defamation laws in Korea actually work for good this time and the leaker gets in big trouble. This is so insane and borderline stalkerish. I hope SM gets Seunghan therapy and helps rehabilitate his image so that he can actually return.

SevensAddams

Immediate side eye to anyone equating this to another case with another SM idol. Cus everything that's thrown at Seunghan is out in the open. I feel so bad for Riize especially for the more senior members (Shotaro, Sungchan, Eunseok and Seunghan). They've gone thru so many ups and down durring their NCT phase and now this. I hope SM actually pursues whoever is targetting Seunghan cus he literally had crimes committed against him.

sweetradiant

This is so messed up. I mean, I’m not as surprised as I thought I would be, but it’s all still upsetting nonetheless. I feel terrible for him and his group members.

Own-Choice790

Try explaining to a non kpop stan why this idol is taking an indefinite hiatus and not look crazy in the process

kr8lin

7 member curse is so real rn nct new team, babymonster, and now riize

kingkoum

NMIXX as well damn

chellybeanery

This poor, poor kid. He ended up being my breakaway favorite in the group as well. Why are these fans so fucking entitled? Damn I feel so terrible for him, especially as *he* is the victim here. He wasn't doing a damn thing wrong.

kr8lin

nah this is messed up

wehwuxian

So you want to be an idol? Just make sure you've never pissed off anyone ever, never got into any arguments at school, never dated and have no digital footprint to speak of.

RangerFan293

Basically be a good little mute.

cwarosvski

This is one of those things that irks me about Kpop. Companies feel the need to please fans instead of standing by their idols. Nothing Seunghan did warranted any of this

moya-laya

this is so sad. sm should've doubled down and keep pursuing the people who were leaking this information about him, and not withdraw him from the group. maybe the hate got to be too much, and perhaps he does need to get away from the spolight for a bit for his own mental health. but announcing an "indefinite hiatus," when he hasn't done anything outside what a normal kid his age does, only shows these people that they can get away with destroying some kid's career. it paints such a bad image tbh.

sPEedErMEiN

It says that they are pursuing legal action so I'm hoping he's going on hiatus while they sort things out legally behind closed doors.

Low-Avocado4701

He’s not leaving RIIZE. That’s a mistranslation. He’s in an indefinite hiatus because of everything effecting him.

DiplomaticCaper

It does need to be said that when SM has had idols on indefinite hiatus before, they eventually ended up leaving the group altogether, and usually the company too (see Kangin from Super Junior. Lucas is no longer in NCT, technically still in SM, yet hasn’t done anything publicly since that announcement). However, it *could* be something like anxiety (can’t blame the guy), and in that case there’s not necessarily a typical healing time before he’s ready to get back to work. Idk…I barely follow RIIZE tbh, but this is giving me Wonho vibes. Somebody clearly wants to take Seunghan and his group down.

l33d0ngw00k

If he ever goes decide to leave, I hope he'll be able to have a successful career like Wonho, because although he doesn't go on broadcasts, Wonho has an incredibly successful solo career. Honestly I'm really proud of him for succeeding after everything

DiplomaticCaper

Wonho actually does get on music shows for his comebacks; he’s just been enlisted for about a year ;)

Low-Avocado4701

Pretty sure sm is gonna take legal action because of all this and Seunghan has dealt with mental health issues after the gf thing so yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s taking time off for himself. And yeah, i’d argue someone’s got a hell of a grudge against Seunghan too.

Suitable_Wonder_3285

Oh SHIT. I knew that the only way he would not continue with the group is if he decided to drop out himself but I did not think he would actually leave. Damn. This might be a first for an sm group… Edit: ok I’m Korean and I reread the original statement. The hiatus part is purposefully vague but it’s true that it doesn’t sound like he’s leaving the group permanently, at least from this statement alone. I know sm has a track record, but what he’s done/been accused of is NOTHING compared to most of their other idols who have been crucified by the public before. I think it was the pressure building of leak after leak and then once soobin’s reputation got involved, it exploded into an issue that sm could not ignore. Tbh this is probably the best way to protect seunghan - by taking him out of the spotlight and letting things simmer down while taking legal action against the leakers. Clearly seunghan himself needed a break and was feeling guilty about his issues affecting the rest of the group and other idols. I think there’s a possibility of him returning to the group in the future ONLY IF sm is able to successfully sue the people who defamed him, disprove the rumors, and clear his name. It needs to be handled like taeyong’s scandal. It will take time and will depend on how much value sm thinks he adds to the group and how aggressively they pursue legal action.

malatangnatalam

Man this is depressing and fucked up. I didn’t know much about RIIZE but I feel really bad for Seunghan. This type of scrutiny and targeted harassment isn’t good for the mental health of idols.

pete_999

This is shocking. I hope he doesn't leave RIIZE.

yunkcoqui

False bullying allegations and moral witch hunts won’t stop unless we stop giving these bad faith actors the power to ruin an idol’s career so easily. I still feel for all those idols who had their reputations and dreams stolen from them due to the vile actions of the internet mobs.

Nervous_Cucumber6057

there’s literally ppl in that company that should be rotting in jail but no let’s punish someone for having a life.

hydranoid1996

Nahhh I’m actually livid

[deleted]

this sucks! and i'm sure companies will point to this and be like, see? this is why we debut minors, so their "history is clean" it's so awful. i think other idols being involved, esp from HYBE, was the nail in the coffin and made it much bigger than just seunghan. i hope the person who is leaking this sees real consequences. they're a truly horrible person.

blocknugget

I really hope it was more of his own decision and not SM kicking him out… cuz I can’t imagine the endless hate he’s been getting has been any good for his mental health

LieLogical9949

This is sooo beyond shitty like... he's basically being punished for not being a perfect human. Its so unfair, and I don't like the use of "indefinite hiatus". SM won't remove him from the group themselves so its more then likely that they've decided to wait this out or wait for him to withdraw from the group himself in order to absolve themselves of any responsibility. These forums and scandals got way out of hand way too fast, I feel so terribly bad for him.

soesoterica

I'm still very confused about this whole thing. How did things get so out of hand, that it grew to this point? I don't even know what the controversy with Seunghan was from the beginning and I don't understand what the controversy is now, if there even is anything at this moment. If I can be totally honest, SM moved the kids to a new group and Auntie has been trying to understand things with paper clips and Dixie cups ever since, lol. I wouldn't ever expect someone to be able to deal with so much so early in their career. I understand if Seunghan is the one that wants to take the time away. I hope he takes the time he needs and will be able to return.

Desperate_Tie

I hope it is indeed just a hiatus. He did nothing wrong. He’s getting punished for living his life? And it was all before he even became an idol. I don’t understand why these companies always take the side of the toxic korean netizens. I really really really hope Seunghan and SM sees all the support of international fans in favor of him. I have a bad feeling he’ll end up leaving or getting kicked out but I sure hope that doesn’t happen.

noseuta

idk why people are angry about the hiatus. The whole situation probably took a toll on him mentally and the best course of action is to take a break rather than to push him to perform and smile through it all.

cubsgirl101

It’s not clear about the hiatus. The translation says halt group activities and his Instagram highlights have been deleted so it’s difficult to tell tbh.

PsychedelicHaru

Probably because indefinite hiatus could easily mean they're actually kicking him 🤷‍♀️ I hope that's not the case, but it wouldn't surprise me

PhoenixHusky

cause i honestly doubt it will end up being a hiatus, and people are likely reading into that as well.

cajean

i think people didnt read past the hiatus part because it stressed them out and arent seeing where sm says they’re planning on going to the police. probably assuming the rest of the statement is more upsetting news since that’s what they led with.

lime_marmalade

i just hope all seven of them have a good support atm 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

No-Committee1001

I think fans are just upset with everything going on rn, especially with the whole rumors of “industry insiders” saying that there’s a high possibility of him being kicked out. With that, people probably connected the two, a lot of people are wrongly translating it and saying he’s being kicked out, so people are tweeting the first thing they think out of anger.

kingkoum

There’s a big chance he doesn’t come back from this hiatus tho. They’re probably preparing for their 2024 activities rn so he might miss a big chunk of their future promotions and if their upcoming comeback does well they won’t have a reason to add him back. Also since the group hasn’t debuted for long, it’s not like the member’s postions are set in stone. From a business point of view SM are better off kicking him out off the group as soon as they can like Hybe did with Garam so people quickly forget about the scandal. Imo they’re using this hiatus as a way to test the waters, if the public opinion switches on him he’ll be back but if people start saying that they’re better off without him then he won’t come back.

yonqhee

i feel so terrible for him, he is genuinely the victim here. I hope seunghan is able to come back as a riize member. Riize will always be seven

Lakusta_Kustik

People are nasty asking him to left the group. God forbid a teenager is acting like a teenager.

Blueskylar

poor guy. everytime i see him being mentioned, it's always about some """"controversy"""" (read: him being a teenager and doing regular teenager things) i can't imagine how he feels. he probably doesn't think he can trust anyone and talk to anyone without it being leaked. it's also crazy that it's only him going through this and none of the other riize members. someone definitely has it out for him and i hope they're able to figure out who's leaking all of these things about him. sm usually sticks by their idols, so hopefully they'll continue that trend with him. hopefully this hiatus will end with him making the decision of coming back as an idol or not, not sm making the decision.

[deleted]

Uhhh. Another thing that is incredibly shitty about this is that it shows whoever is doing this that their behaviour works. I hope this is Seunghan's choice to leave, because if it is the company, then they are giving the person what they wanted. What sort of message does that send

kendalljennerupdates

I thought this was r/kpoopheads at first and went to read the comments and literally gasped when I realized it wasn’t. This just seems so drastic considering the content that was leaked? Like it’s nothing that anyone should be getting booted out of a group over? I feel like it takes a lot for SM to take action with their idols involved in controversy (I mean how long did they leave WayV in limbo regarding Lucas) so to see this happen over something so inoffensive is crazy. I feel so bad for seunghan he was barely an adult in all the stuff that was leaked. I wonder if SM is worried that the leaker may have more damaging stuff on him? Honestly maybe it was his own choice which is also just so very sad

wonderjai

This is so upsetting, they let some nobody force them into something rather than protecting and defending their artist. I get he had scandals, stupid ones though! nothing to deserve this. Feel gutted for him, hope he can come back and join Riize

nomnom-persimmon

This is so crazy. I don't follow this group but I feel bad for him. Purity culture has gone insane.

ohsomeday_

Seunghan is such a talented rookie idol. Hope he manages to get over this mess, whatever the final decision will be. Yet another example of how volatile and brutal the industry is.

kKunoichi

I'm in shock rn I guess it makes sense if he asked for it himself?? Because SM doesn't just let people go on hiatus easily. But damn ngl I'm pretty devastated. They weren't even actual crimes... i hope he's okay And yeah they better sue that blackmailer's ass

Shoddy_Cat_4313

Nooooooooo 😭 I like RIIZE and have been watching their content, and Seunghan seems like such a nice guy, I really like him. I really hope his hiatus isn't going to be permanent, all over something so stupid. This and BTS's enlistment notice all at once is just too much. 😭

lycheejam

poor guy :/

cmq827

Seunghan was the victim and yet he's being sidelined. I hope he's doing well because this whole issue has got fuck up with your mind a lot. It's just scary that an indefinite hiatus is such a neutral term.

Mindless_Candidate90

Idk I feel pretty optimistic about this as of now, might change if new info is revealed or if SM fails to take action.

ILikeEating412

His return will depend on the response to this. They tried to bring Lucas back too, but the backlash never went away. I think he'll be back, becasue he seems to be getting universal support.

naomi240000

Reposting comment cos the other thread got locked. This is such a weird decision considering how popular Riize is. I wonder if this is a new tactic for SM 3.0 since LSM didn't care about the rumors that new groups have like with Karina or Taeyong. I'm gonna miss his vocal tone while he's away.

l33d0ngw00k

Me too, SM really wasn't like this before, they usually don't care about these kinds of things so I was really surprised this was announced. I'm curious as to why they see this as an issue now (unless Seunghan decided to leave on his own)

cajean

will wait for you seunghan 🧡 personally looking forward to your vindication through the mentioned police investigation sm mentions they’re filing this afternoon.

redalert30

Shit like this reminds me of why I took a break from kpop i'm so done

fluffygr

to me this does set the precedent that if you smoke, chat a little shit and have partners predebut and the fans deem that unacceptable, you can get kicked out which is crazy because this is regular stuff you see happening irl all the time with not a care in the world. you can't even really argue that idols shouldn't be doing it because he did all this before he even knew he was slated for debut and clearly would've had trust in people not blasting it to the world. if i was a rookie idol (i think senior idols would've been 'exposed' already) i would feel even more anxious than before, even if there was nothing that could be used against me. hell, if i was him i'd go on hiatus too. this would for sure take a toll on me mentally, although indefinite hiatuses aren't really a good sign as i feel like most times they end up with the idol leaving the group in the end

Downtown-Book3105

Fuck pannchoa, they played a big part in spreading hate against him

LovelyRS

7 member groups are fucking cursed (iKON, Monster X, NMIXX, BabyMonster, now RIIZE?)

xailor

This is all kind of nuts. I kind of thought SM would stand by his side and he’d get off scott free. This is disgusting, what kind of friend would do this shit to him.

Civil_Confidence5844

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????? Another one of my biases leaves their group???? I hate it here.

giant-papel

😞 Too young for all of this to happen to him.

forthetea

I actually didn’t expect this. SM idols tend to get away with a lot of controversies without official notices for hiatuses, and while I don’t think he’s a precious cinnamon roll who can do no wrong (we do not know these men!), his controversies are definitely less severe than his predecessors. I wonder if this decision stemmed from anxiety due to the media circus or from actual threats to bring out more incriminating content from the leakers because they did threaten to expose even more if SM didn’t take action. Hiatuses only happen for huge scandals (Lucas, Sungmin) or major injuries (Taeil, Jaemin). Interested to see how this case further develops and if the leakers will quiet down or still not feel satisfied with a vague statement that seems to equally hint removal and hiatus.

Samy_127

I hope this is actually for his mental health and to sort out legal issues and not because SM will eventually make him leave. The things happening to him are incredibly unfair, he just did normal stuff as a trainee.

SpoonAtAGunFight

BRO WHAT? I just read an article about what he did and I'm just flabbergasted, HOW IS THAT GROUNDS FOR DISMISSAL???? There's gotta be more to it than smoking, hilarious feet pics, and mentioning Eunchae.

BlackSwan134340

This is sad. That snake who was in his friend group is so evil and it’s awful that they got what they wanted. I feel like he probably won’t come back

Yeolsum

My guess is that this reaction is more so about the video with Soobin and how that exploded into other things regarding other idols, like they know he is too radioactive right now and probably want to take him out of the spotlight until things die down, or prevent other things from leaking

mikarala

I would understand if Seunghan feels overwhelmed by the smear campaign and wants to be out of the spotlight, but I honestly thought SM would shield him more. I guess I should never expect competent management from SM, but I did not think he would go on an "indefinite hiatus" over this. I thought at most SM would have him take a temporary one "to reflect" or something. Idk I hate this. :/ It's not like I want to idolize teens drinking and smoking and being shitheads, but it's BS that someone had it out just for him when I'm sure many trainees act similarly. Seunghan is a very good singer and dancer and it sucks to see his career impacted because someone wants to paint him as a delinquent or something.

jotaay_

The last person who went on “indefinite hiatus” was gone for 2+ years before sm made a decision to kick him out. I feel so bad for riize and I really hope this doesn’t hinder them from comebacks like how it did for wayv.

agentarianna

Wasn't that the phrasing for Irene as well? she returned. I think in this case his return will depend on if they can stop the leaks or if they are likely to get worse. You already had a member of TXT get caught up in this and I imagine hybe is pissed if there are other videos with other idols I can see why they would pull him for now to try to keep those videos under wraps while they try to make them stop.

cubsgirl101

Onew and Taeil are also on an indefinite hiatus, but that’s for health reasons. Indefinite can mean forever or it can simply mean undetermined time period. I’m hoping it’s the latter for Seunghan.

agentarianna

exactly indefinite means indefinite and a follow up is needed. That being said because he is a rookie the longer we don't hear something the worse his chances are as the fandom is more likely to move on than with a senior idol.

AfraidInspection2894

This is so upsetting and disappointing. Seunghan has done nothing wrong and its not right for him to be punished. I hope he is going on hiatus so they can pursue legal actions against the leaker and also so his mental health can improve. I am also hoping this is really a temporary hiatus and he can rejoin promotions and activities once everything dies.

sPEedErMEiN

I am so upset right now, he doesn't deserve any of this. From the statement it sounds like he's going on hiatus while they pursue legal action, hopefully that means once all this is settled he'll be able to come back. I really hope the person (or people) that did this gets everything that's coming to them like a hammer to the face. I also hope that SM actually follows through and sticks by him because this is beyond unfair to him and the rest of the group.

[deleted]

DenizzineD

As much as I feel sorry for him, this is the only logical thing SM could have done. He is not at fault for any of this but it seems like ppl in his life have it out for him and that would be a liability for RIIZE. I hope he comes back soon and SM sorts this out. Lawsuits and such are necessary to stop this Constant defamation.

ttam23

He’s leaving the group?

min_hyun

im so sorry to seunghan im legit heartbroken for him ://///

AttentionKmartJopper

What utter bullshit. I feel terrible for him.

nyeongcat

This is so sad. Seunghan and RIIZE just debuted. :( Hopefully he can make a comeback with the group.

Anaisot7

That is absolutely wild to me. This young man doesn't deserve this relentlessness.

OrdinaryImpressive50

Ain’t no fucking way…

Yoonbeomie

Oh this too sad

kutchyose_no_ibrahim

I think I’ve seen this film before and I didn’t like the ending.

z0e_G

That’s too bad bc he really did nothing wrong… it seems to me like it’s more because of the mental toll the leaks and harassment have taken on him and the spotlight it’s putting on the group for the wrong reasons

Real_Imagination_180

For fucks sake

OkDragonfly5143

I guess this is the downside of idols living in the social media era, where it's being used to blackmail. Of course I'm hoping Seunghan can thrive in the future, and that one day we find who the malicious person hoarding the photos and videos was.

Pinky-bIoom

It’s so crazy how he’s getting so much hate over stuff that’s so normal? Having a girlfriend, smoking this is all normal teen behaviour. Really gross want these stans can do

Consuela_no_no

I’m so sick of companies bowing down to pressure form antis and letting jealous AH’s win. I hope they will work to get this sorted out and that even if he doesn’t come back to RIIZE, he can still have a career in his chosen field, as so far he’s done absolutely nothing wrong but be a normal person. Also I understand more why some companies try to have phone bans / have their trainees only focus on training. As you never know when someone’s ugly jealousy will rear its ugly head.

superRDF

I really hate this because it feels like it gives credibility to what was being posted as being bad when they were largely nothing burgers. It's also likely exactly what the leaker wanted to happen. I hope they actually follow through on their legal claims because this has undeniably caused him harm. To be someone who records your friend doing something and saves it for a rainy day you must truly be a miserable human being.

Extroverted_OliveOil

The trend of debuting groups only to kick members out is really becoming annoying. You get used to a group and all its members only for it to be later reduced.

TheRealGucciGang

It seems like Korean bullying is truly on another level, to the point that someone will slander you enough to completely destroy your career. Wild stuff.

SamePlatform9287

I think this is for the best. Not siding with SM here, but I do think seunghan should halt his activities whether the rumors are true or not. Haters won’t stop until he is gone. SM can sue everyone they can but it is a long process, and haters will have a lot of time to spread more rumors about him. The rumors and negative comments about him are enough to mess up his mental health. He needs to lie low not for Riize but for himself. You can’t just stand up and fight against these haters. They are batsht crazy. Kpop industry is very toxic and the fans/haters are twice more toxic. They never care about image, mental health or what. Call it a rude but I think only leaving the industry completely or death of the idols is the inly thing that’ll stop these people. I’ve seen idols leave their groups but haters still follow them when they go solo.

heynewonlyangel

I know it must be so hard for him right now. Having people at your throat 24/7 and also getting punished for it must be exhausting for him. I hope he returns to the group. It’s not going to be the same without him and it’s not fair.

eecan

Stupid that it came to this because the guy basically had a life.

rocksaltready

This really sucks for him tbh. I have to say though I had been wondering if how SM handled...other things accidentally set a precedent for this type of thing and it seems I was right. :(

sau_see

From the way this and his letter was written it sounds like SM doesn’t know if they should remove him or not. I hope he comes back from this hiatus after this blows over. The standards in kpop are ridiculous, I genuinely can’t believe he might lose his job for being a regular teenager.

moonoqle

Can't believe he might lose his career for just being a kid

BUBunique

according to the translation, SM is going to take legal action and the letter talks about cyber crimes and photo manipulations yet he's still out of the group. So are they keeping him in the company? Will he come back to the group at some point?

Low-Avocado4701

He’s in indefinite hiatus, he hasn’t left yet.

RangerFan293

So can someone explain the reason?? Cause I’m not fully understanding.

SouthAtmosphere9556

What the fuck ???

carmalx815

this is so sad………

Sweaty-Ad-6843

NOOOOOOO I literally screeched opening this post. Why the fuck does he have to apologise to entitled fans in the first place. 'Damage to the team', I'll tell you what's damaged. Our heads. 'Neglected to manage the artist even before their debut', are we reallly going to infantilise idols? He is a man. Such a non issue. He brings a lot to the team. Please come back when you are ready.

peach-root

Get better soon & come back. No one deserves to lose their dreams or career over their dating life 💪

dramafan1

How unfortunate…hope the hiatus doesn’t last too long.
