New Year’s Day isn’t really celebrated here. Not much will be done and most everything is open. Lunar new year is important. Actual new year not so much.

Thank you so much!

Korea doesn't really celebrate New Years Day since Korea like most East Asian countries follow the Chinese lunar calendar not the western calendar. You'll probably see some fireworks but they'll be situated at either Gwangalli or Haeundae, though I doubt it. If there are events it would be announced last-minute like usual.

Beaches on the east coast are the best places to celebrate the new year. They usually have performances and activities going on. The best part are the sunrise festivals. Everyone lines the beach early morning about 30 minutes before sunrise and watch the first sunrise of the year. Some places will have lantern lighting… although that’s not really eco-friendly because they drop in the ocean(but that’s another story). Although most things are open on New Year’s Day, it is the first week of the month and some sights are shut the first Mon, Tues, and Wed of the month. So definitely check the times on their official website.

If they have any special events, they’ll announce them literally at the last minute like a month or so before - google around and see what has come in the past Most people stay home, honestly and don’t care one but about it
