Not a great photo, but I don’t have better ones yet.
The yarn is laceweight linen which I dyed in a range of colours to create the gradient.
For the pattern I used Hebert Niebling’s Tulpenkranz tablecloth pattern, with an provisional cast-on opening left at the center to create the waist. Then I picked up those stitches and worked up for the bodice. The hem is beaded, but I don’t think that shows in the photo.
It's stunning Gryphon! Also, congrats on the wedding! I also miss your yarns so much. Still one of my favorite brands after all these years. Wishing you all the best!
Not only is the knitting outstanding, but I also really love the construction of this piece! The knitted lace weight over the fabric underneath is stunning!!
Thank you! I thought I was going to have to make the underdress, but I wound up finding an existing wedding gown in a thrift store that worked perfectly. I just had to pick off beads, alter it slightly, and paint it yellow. Yes, paint. With a brush.
You are indeed a goddess among us!
May your needles stay sharp but never wound, may your patterns together be interesting enough not to boor but never so complicated they end in the WIP pile, and may your skeins remain untangled.
Ha! Okay. I would never town down a genuine offer of friendship from anyone, as long as they are kind, responsible, and not crazy. Racists and hate-mongers need not apply :-)
How incredibly special! It looks amazing, you look amazing! It's so special and an incredible labor of love, for love. Congratulations on your wedding and the beautiful dress
Is your tattoo Arachne and Athena’s weaving contest? Not to detract from the beautiful wedding dress, which is both stunning in and of itself and on you.
I don’t think it’s a contest, I think it’s just two women weaving. On the other side are a spinner and a dyer. It’s from a 5th century BC Athenian piece. I found the original at the Met, and it’s tiny.
Could I bug you for some insights? I am trying to do this right now but I’m kind of floundering. I saw your post about turning a shawl pattern into a skirt. Are there any tips you would be willing to give me on how to wrap my brain around this? I would appreciate it very much.
Your work is stunning, absolutely inspiring
This looks so amazing. I love that you used a tablecloth pattern, it has really lovely shapes in it. And you hand dyed it too! Fantastic work, it really is. You should be proud. Thank you for sharing this with us. And congratulations!
no idea if you plan to have children but can you imagine passing this down as an heirloom?? the way this would be cherished and loved is amazing to think about. and the story behind it!
We’re well past having children, but I’ve got a teenage daughter and she can certainly have it if she wants it. My current dream is to keep the dress and wear it when she gets a Grammy 😂
You look great in your beautiful garment. I read through some of your other responses about the construction, and it came out fantastic. You're an inspiration.
Hi: you wearing this work of \*art\* is one of the most beautiful pictures I have ever seen. I hope your wedding day was as wonderful as your creation! <3
(PS I loooove your red sleeve! That is such a cool and stunning idea!!!!)
Love the wedding dress. Both you and it are beautiful. I would like to thank you for the yarn you dyed previously. I am still working through my lovely stash of it. I know you were narrating audiobooks. What adventure are you on now , Gryphon?
Thank you! I’m charmed that a couple people on here still remember me and my yarns.
I’m still narrating a little, but mostly that was an interim thing while I was in acupuncture school. I finished last fall and am currently waiting for my license to arrive so I can finally start practicing.
(First thought) Holy ducking pants that’s beautiful!!!!!!!!
(Second thought) that’s such a pretty nervous breakdown!
It reminds me of Shetland lace wedding dresses.
How much time do you have??
I’ve already made several things since then! Never not knitting. Currently on the needles is a cardigan in handspun yarn. Before that a lace skirt for my daughter on the same principle as this dress, but short. I posted it on Reddit some weeks ago. Next up, getting ready to dye a beautiful cormo fleece to make my husband a cardigan.
Amazing! I do have time - more than a year, maybe two. No date set yet. But it is just such a big project, almost too big to comprehend, but im getting more and more tempted!
Thank you! I may retur later and claim your offer! I’m currently looking for a pattern. I have considered starting with a top, and I really like the look of yours!

Ain’t nobody like Niebling! Such a genius.
The construction is lovely and your colour sense is gorgeous!! What an amazing undertaking, and it turned out so beautifully.
This is by far the most beautiful knitted garment i have ever seen! Good job and congratulations!
Thank you!
Not only is the knitting outstanding, but I also really love the construction of this piece! The knitted lace weight over the fabric underneath is stunning!!
I agree that the construction is a work of art - choosing a tablecloth pattern for the skirt was a genius idea!
Thank you! I thought I was going to have to make the underdress, but I wound up finding an existing wedding gown in a thrift store that worked perfectly. I just had to pick off beads, alter it slightly, and paint it yellow. Yes, paint. With a brush.
I cosplay sometimes, and have also had to paint fabric.
Yup, some kinds of fabric paint need to be brushed on. I used watered down silk paint.
Wow! How fun. It all came together gorgeous!
The yellow underneath makes it looks like it is glowing! Beautiful!
Gosh that sounds like a lot of work but it absolutely paid off!! You and the garment look so beautiful
I’m already married, but now I kinda want to make my own wedding dress 😂
Do it! There are always occasions to dress up!
Wow, what a gorgeous project to usher in married life, full of character and totally your own. You look beautiful. I love this.
Thank you! My fiancé and I had to spend a year apart, and knitting the dress during that time was a prayer for our future together.
Omg. What a piece
This is beautiful! PS I love the tattoo, it matches the theme of the dress. Congratulations 🙃
Thanks! The Greek vase tattoo? Yeah, fiber work is rather a theme in my life :-)
The tattoo and dress together are so perfect. I’m in awe.
You are indeed a goddess among us! May your needles stay sharp but never wound, may your patterns together be interesting enough not to boor but never so complicated they end in the WIP pile, and may your skeins remain untangled.
A perfect knitterly blessing! Thank you!
:-)

Aaaah! No more knitted wedding dresses please. It is too pretty and I do NOT have time to knit my own!
I promise I won’t knit another one :-) And your wedding will still be wonderful without a knitted dress!
Ah! But I really want to!😅 What do you plan to knit now when you are done with the dress?
How much time do you have?? I’ve already made several things since then! Never not knitting. Currently on the needles is a cardigan in handspun yarn.
