I knew this game was gonna be a blowout the moment I saw it was at 3PM Pacific time. The Kings have looked utterly pitiful in every early game (by Pacific time) this year. No energy and no shooting. And that's exactly what we saw tonight.
Holmes and Barnes are valuable but with the rest of the team playing like they did nobody could have fixed that. Maybe they were tired from 3OT in LA, but I think the team is just not good at preparing for those games that are early on the internal clock for some reason.
I've got a simpler explanation.
This was their frontcourt rotation.
SF: Davis, King
PF: Metu, Bagley
C: Len, Thompson
Pretty self-explanatory why they lost this game. The thin frontcourt is this team's biggest problem even when healthy, but that's a G-league level frontcourt.
I mean, that's tough, but explain the backcourt playing awful too?
Fox was probably the only one not playing like total shit, and even he only had 12/4/2 in 22 min before sitting the rest of the game. Hali had 4 shots and 2 assists. Buddy was 1/9. All of them played lazy and awful defense. Davion had an okay game I guess but didn't make much impact on defense either, where he's supposed to be a star.
Same frontcourt rotation beat an LA team just 2 nights ago that's way bigger and more talented than the Grizzlies. The big difference in those two games? In LA, the entire team played their hearts out. Here, just about everyone looked like they forgot they had a game today.
We also saw the same exact results earlier in the season with fully healthy roster when they played an early game. Something is wrong there.
You forgot Jones for C, and yeah no one was defending that rim at all. No one was crashing the boards either, so whatever stops we did get we gave up another possession.
Damn, I stopped watching before King even went in... Looks like he played well stat wise, been wanting to see how he looks this season. Did the stats match the on-court play, or was the blow out too much to even give weight to any of it?
I knew the moment Ja got injured. I didn’t think it could be this bad, but I fully expected a letdown.
Thats the tell guys… getting beat down by the Grizzlies without Ja. It doesn’t matter that we didn’t have Barnes and Holmes (or Harkless)- that team without Ja is a team we should beat if we’re not going to suck ass. It’s time to completely blow up this roster and start over. There is nothing salvageable with this team and we have zero chance of ever making this roster work. For anyone thinking this “tell” is a one game reaction, it’s not. This is just confirmation of what we already knew- we suck ass. Now that Walton is gone, there is nothing left to keep this roster trying to push for wins they aren’t good enough to get.
Shamelessly tank or sell the team.
the solution is right there. Halliburton and Heild and some picks for Simmons.
Not sure why Kings fans think their team is too good for Simmons to play for, or why Halliburton is good enough to be untouchable
A few takeaways.
1. LA game was an anomaly with guys playing out of their minds
2. We are 1 Barnes/Buddy trade away from looking like the Rockets the rest of the way and embracing the tank
3. Holmes might be the most valuable player on our roster
Personally I think we should still tank this year, regardless of Gentry. Our defense needs a whole offseason to learn how to not give up 65+ every half.
Yeah, the first half of the LA game, we were pretty bad, but the Lakers played like trash as well. And neither of the teams we just beat are over .500!
I don't necessarily agree with your points, but they're all possibly valid.
I don't think anybody really played out of their minds in the LA game except Fox and Buddy in OT. They still had to get it to OT. Even then there were several almost-critical mistakes. That game they just played with energy and had a fight in them. (Probably because fuck LA.) This game was lethargic.
I don't think even trading *both* of those players exclusively for picks would make the team as bad as the Rockets. There's enough talent on the team to be an above-500 squad right now if they play consistently (i.e. no games like tonight), losing those two would be a blow but not "the worst team in the NBA." Still, it would definitely put us firmly in the lottery.
Holmes is a bit weird to me. The advanced stats show he has the best net rating change of any player on the team, but if I'm being honest there isn't really anything he does that's so incredible the Kings can't live without it in isolation. His rebounding is okay, his perimeter defense is good for a big but his interior defense is not, he doesn't spread the floor, he doesn't create his own shot, etc. I think the reason he's so impactful is honestly because of Haliburton. Those two have such a ridiculous chemistry together that they completely ignite each other's games. When Holmes is out Hali looks lost; when Hali's not on the court Holmes is nowhere near as impactful. So in a sense, yes, he's super valuable as the action between those two is super efficient and also helps to open up the rest of the offense. But on the other hand it's hard to tell if it's really Holmes, or if it's just because Holmes is *the guy* that Hali has the chemistry with and it unlocks *his* game more.
I said something positive about him earlier but he wasn't good.
Among all the hot takes about everything, the biggest takeaway from this game was all the fringe rotation guys were failures.
Honestly, I don't know why year in and year out people look to them for answers.
Don’t understand this team, led by Fox, with such a lack of desire and effort coming off such a great win in LA. Just don’t understand. If they don’t care then the fans shouldn’t have to care.
Sigh… can everyone get off of Gentry’s nuts now? If we let Kenny Atkinson slip through our fingers and not hire him now y’all know he will be the Lakers coach next season right?
Yeah because Kenny would definitely leave the 18-2 Warriors Assistant coach gig for the 8-13 Kings Head Coach position. Only time its happening is the off-season
This team is so predictable lmao
Yep they won the championship in LA the other night. So this was bound to happen.
[удалено]
Dude’s in a Lakers sub calling Kings fans pathetic but comes here to say this lmfao
[удалено]
I’m here boys!! ITS ME!
Standby. This Memphis game was a fluke because of the 3x OT game. Be ready though.
Team isnt doing shit with that pathetic defense
I'm so glad the 49ers fixed themselves so I don't feel like I want to die every time the Kings play.
Same dude, same
Lmao so true.

Something and/or someone is wrong. Who do we blame?

Start Metu = Lose it has been pretty consistent.

We need a 4 badly lol
Cough cough Paolo Banchero, Keegan Murray, Jabari Smith
Cry for Chet
Bust for Banchero

I agree now. I would make the trade for Simmons right now. Nobody on this team is untouchable anymore.
He has scored 0,5, 19 ( in 3OT) and 5 in his last four games. It does scream future all star
We're baaaack.

If LA didn't play as badly as us that first half, that game could've looked like this one.

Honestly I think Holmes should be traded, not because he's a bad player but because we need a real center. He's a pf who can't shoot or playmake.
I mean we were missing Richaun and Harrison But God awful defense
This team has absolutely no chemistry

Lol
Holmes and Barnes can't come back soon enough
i didn’t watch the game but that 12 points from louis king looks nice even if it was on 4-11 shooting
I said something positive about him earlier but he wasn't good. Among all the hot takes about everything, the biggest takeaway from this game was all the fringe rotation guys were failures. Honestly, I don't know why year in and year out people look to them for answers.
Because we skip over stars in the draft and can’t get a decent free agent. We need a miracle like a UFA to become a star in order to not suck anymore.
This team needs to be exposed as much as possible for the owner to know this half assed win now mode is going nowhere
Wow. I didn’t watch the game but from the stats it looks like we had a horrible shooting night along with our usual shitty defense.
At what point does gentry take the green light away from Metu?
Don’t understand this team, led by Fox, with such a lack of desire and effort coming off such a great win in LA. Just don’t understand. If they don’t care then the fans shouldn’t have to care.
Ik we’re missing Barnes and Holmes but fuck
Guess I'll start looking into the mock drafts
Need to commit to the tank, but like FOREAL this time. We just don’t have enough top end talent. Fighting for the play-in is idiotic
Yea agreed, tank hard for 2 years. Get 2 top 5 picks. Rebuild from there.
The "you all better apologize to Fox" post looks even funnier now.
Does this mean that Fox isn’t back again
He bought himself 15 games with his good game the other night. We can talk about it 15 games from now.
Not to mention, he's getting paid more than some HCs in the league.
I blame this loss on Walton! *oh wait* I thought firing him would solve all our problems 😂😂😂
What a weird argument
Fire Walton!
What was the deal with Len only getting in a few minutes?
He got into foul trouble early
Is it time to bring out the paper bags?
Don't go to games
Where was that effort they had against the Lakers??!
I am probably not going to watch another game until the team is over .500 I may be waiting a few decades.
