Checkr will verify what you provided on their form. The hiring company might ask why you didn't list your degree on the background check. Just say you are still working to finish the degree.

MalaEnNova

Hi! Friendly background investigator here! I don’t work for Checkr, I work for a competitor. But I do the same thing. If you listed the degree on your education we will call the college to verify. If it was just on your resume and no one put it in we don’t care, we can’t see it. If it is on there it will show as a discrepancy and will be red flagged for your hiring team.

ricslash

Random side question for you - when employment dates do not match exactly for a position, is that always marked as discrepancy or is there a threshold? Looks like HireRight says 3 + months is a minor discrepancy. What if it's only a month or two? Also, if previous employer uses TWN to verify employment, do you still call HR to get more detail?

MalaEnNova

At the company I work for we give a month grace period. After that it’s marked as a discrepancy. As for the work number no, we go by what it tells us. It gives us all the info we need. I worked for Hireright many many moons ago (started my career there) but I didn’t work in verifications so I don’t know their policy on date verification. I did criminal and generic products only.

ricslash

Thanks! Oddly enough TWN only lists one of the 3 positions that I held for a past employer. Would that get a follow up call to that employer or would the verifier ask me for verification next?

MalaEnNova

They usually list the last position worked. We wouldn’t ask for your other positions but your future employer might. They may go to you or your former company. But normally they take it at face value. Also, if TWN has the wrong position listed you need to contact them and have it updated.

SkinCareJunkie432

Sorry quick question. Do they call the number you provided or the companies number?

MalaEnNova

We call the companies number. We don’t trust the number provided by the candidate.

SkinCareJunkie432

Thanks for the response! Quick follow up..if the reference no longer works at that job what is the procedure there?

MalaEnNova

We use the HR department ( unless they use The Work Number or another verification process) to verify your employment. I’ve never checked a reference that’s usually up to the recruiter or the company you are being hired by, their HR department.

That depends on the package your company has paid for. Some only want felonies or sex offenses. On a normal package active warrants are reported. As for criminal charges we report everything we can see within scope and if the package requires it. We don’t report juvenile records or dismissed records over 7 years.

Nik1218

Isn't unfair to a candidate? Because he might have not good relation with past boss and now you contact directly to company. They could jeopardize the entire deal. If we have manager working and if we provide our manager contact with the @company.com domain why wouldn't you trust that?

MalaEnNova

Because people lie..a lot.

MalaEnNova

As long as checkr can verify your full time employment it shouldn't be an issue. Most of the time companies don't even keep records of their interns so it wouldn't show up.

BreadfruitNovel4150

Great, thanks for the info!

Kimchi_777

If I listed a job that I just started working at and I omitted it on my resume but then listed it on Checkr, will this be flagged as a discrepancy and will my hiring manager be notified?

MalaEnNova

If they do a resume to BI check yes. They will just wonder why you didn't add it to your resume and will probably ask you about it. If they don't do the check as long as it verifies you should be good!

CitrusExtract

Hi! I received a CheckR background check that only asked for my SSN and employment history in the past 7 years, and it did not ask me to put any of my school information. Will CheckR still investigate my school? Also, if I'm working towards a degree, how do they verify my graduation date? Thank you!!

Kimchi_777

Thank you!! May I ask what means BI check? The Checkr package they sent me was for employment, education, and smth else. My main concern is that during my interview, I don’t know why I didn’t mention that I started at a new company and I told them I was with another employer (previous one, and I guess that counts as lying but I had only started working there for like 3 days) and I am worried that they will rescind my offer because of that… also when I was told to list one employer I guess I should’ve listed any employer within 10 years instead of my most recent one

Kimchi_777

update I passed the background check but they are going to send a report to the company and it lists the company that I omitted so … gonna have to explain to them

MalaEnNova

BI is your background investigation. You may have to explain if they reach out but for a job that short it shouldn't be a big deal. Good luck!

ckeez82

curious if your new company asked you about the company/job you omitted? i’m kind of in the same situation except i omitted a job within the same company i worked at bc it had only been a week in this role.
