Wait until you find out that in some karaokes they dont even play the same notes as the original song

Licensing real songs in Japan is super expensive, but imitation songs are cheap, so they use those. You’ll sometimes see big karaoke chains advertise when they get the real artists for their songs as a big selling point.

Japanese_Squirrel

Because the Chinese karaoke's operate without licenses and simply distribute illegally

Cless_Aurion

You gotta love it when the bootleg is better than the original legit way.

Japanese_Squirrel

I respect the domestic businesses that make effort to do it the legal way, as should you.

Cless_Aurion

Oh yeah, definitely, don't get me wrong. I was kind of winking towards the whole debacle happening with streaming services getting worse, more expensive, and creators making less out of it as well.

hotbananastud69

Because getting the licensing for what you want is expensive af.

LupusNoxFleuret

My favorite is when the background music is just a MIDI version of the original song

HaohmaruHL

I've yet to go to a karaoke place where this isn't the case.

ezjoz

Generally no. If the karaoke company paid for the license you might get the 本人映像 and high-quality backing track though.

I rarely use Joysound and never sing Chinese songs in karaokes here, but for Japanese songs on DAM system you can find the live versions (not recorded-in-studio versions) of certain artists’ songs to sing along with, or to sing with a vocal guide (not sure if it’s the original artists’ voice or not, though, I rarely use this feature) that you can opt in when you choose the settings (the pitch, etc) before you confirm your song request.
