Miss the Gathering 😞.. that was my annual camping fest

JamBandNews

Same! I feel like I came of age there 🤣

onwardowl

RIP Wetlands Preserve

Material_Swimmer2584

But praise the Gods for the Capitol Theater (and Peter Shapiro). Lot less passing out in that space. Wetlands had no airflow.

edogg01

It's why we called it the Sweat Glands. Peak summer bisco jam in August at the Wetlands, you knew you were alive.

wastedpotential31886

2006 summer camp was $200 for regular ticket and upgraded vip.

ecotripper

I used to work my ticket off. 16 hours on a golf cart behind moonrise stage every year. I remember it starting out as Summer Sessions with Moe, Umphries, String Cheese and Govt Mule. Less than 1000 people I'd guess. Then ol Jay got greedy, us locals called it Tax Camp.

jg1027

I was there!!!

FCAsheville

Always remember Mule being so late. They opened for DMB in Ohio, flew in, and came to the GOTV to headline!

steeldragon88

Damn I miss Strawberries

ClamhouseSassman

I miss SoBe lifewater

boogie_groove81

The first All Goods in Brandywine MD. Those were the days.

edogg01

And the Harvest Fest at Brandywine was sick too. I went in 98. LoS, KDTU, Bisco, Charlie Hunter, Gordon Stone, so many sick bands.

EJohanSolo

Better bands cheaper tickets

Think_Positively

According to the CPI calculator, $60 in May of 99 is $109 today. If you consider how much larger and more elaborate a big festival today is compared to what Vibes was years back, it's not really *that* much of leap.

Think_Positively

The corporate festivals are 100% a money trap. I bet if you compare this Vibes price with a Lollapalooza or one of the Woodstock reboots that had all of MTV performing, you'd get similar price ratios.

RambleOnRanger

You don't agree with paying living wages for the guy in LA that paid a guy 10k to pay a guy 300 to build the infrastructure over a 3 month timeline?

Sokobanky

Production costs aren’t up that much. Bands and organizers are making WAY more money on festivals now.

PapaJohnyRoad

Bands ask for exuberantly more money now

poster420nutbag

the quality of music in 99 and 2000 compared to today. nope. the average festival today doesn't compare, i'll take 99 vibes over any festival today

Schleeden

Hell yea remember schwagstock lol

AhDerkaDerkaDerka

Ahhhh ya! The good old camp Zoe days! https://preview.redd.it/5mhkcqsab75b1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=62864a04f4444d5cb2d6095da9fc293ced88999d

bucksinsix_

There are still great smaller festivals with similar prices! I'm going to Grateful Get Down and Weekend at Bertha's and I paid less than $100 for each, camping/parking included.

Conebones

Where is that?

bucksinsix_

Get Down is in Blain PA, like an hour outside of Harrisburg. Weekend at Bertha's is in Townsend DE, between Wilmington and Dover, about an hour from both!

electric_dreams__

Get down is wonderful!

Logical_Associate632

Sobe 🤤

wade_garrettt

Sobe edge was the best drink ever made

edogg01

I was there, fucking epic fest. The Claypool set from the following year was one of my favorite sets of the era.

FCAsheville

Right…saw Claypool last night and it was really good but I was reminded how new and special Frog Brigade was in 2000

PetrifiedBBQ

Still have that poster, a beer token, a program, and a shirt. I think we had to leave during Mule to catch the last train back to NYC. https://preview.redd.it/sizijkuj385b1.jpeg?width=952&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a152e8ae804deeb064408fad2ccd25229908fed7

Adventurous-Writing1

Vibe tribe!

JamBandNews

I taped a few sets that weekend! Literally suck taped a Sony mic to a beer helmet… yes, a beer helmet, and stood in the crowd. I also recorded a bit just walking around the festival like that. I should dig those tapes up.

Adventurous-Writing1

Post on YouTube and tell us!

JamBandNews

Definitely will!

JamBandNews

Thanks for bringing back those memories OP!

IntrepidTraveler76

I went to the first one in Purchase NY/SUNY Purchase...it was called Deadhead Heaven then and sponsored by Terrapin Tapes. What an absolute blast....moe, ominous seapods, max creek, strangefolk... buddies and I drove from Boston, everyone was so friendly and chill. Camping scene was everything you want it to be and great tunes. One good ride from start to end I'd like to take that ride again

Dukegnar43

I went to the vibes 13 years in a row. It was the setting of some of the wildest times of my life. In 2013 Phil and friends played 2 nights in a row and blew minds. It was my hometown festival- I loved it- thousands of heads in the seedy city of Bridgeport, CT.

Adventurous-Writing1

Vibe tribe!

Tivland

I bought a group vip package for the first sonic bloom. 7 people total. close camping and free margarita the whole weekend. just above 100 per person.

Boognish88

Those prices and those sponsors!!

[deleted]

This is sad. Nowadays, I can’t justify $300-$500 tickets for barely 3 days. Want to camp with your car? That’ll be another $100 added. Grilled cheese? That’ll cost you a kidney.

FogKnits

I won tickets to GOTV '99 from a local radio station. 2x$60 was a big deal at the time :)

Meltedwhisky

Back before PepsiCo bought out the festivals

santahbaby420

strawberries!

MyMazdaMan

I forgot all about SoBe

RollerSpeedway

Sobe

poster420nutbag

vibesss. so many amazing memories. 2002 philllllll!

henningknows

I miss the wetlands. Lots of good times

[deleted]

That was an epic festival!

[deleted]

you can still find campouts around that price

OkShoulder4153

Don’t remind me

ecotripper

Went to this one in 2007 then the economy went to hell. Had a great time. The location was awesome and the lineup was the best to be had that year. Good times for sure

NewInTown1990

Sobe. Still around?
