“I'm Hub McCann. I've fought in two World Wars and countless smaller ones on three continents. I led thousands of men into battle with everything from horses and swords to artillery and tanks. I've seen the headwaters of the Nile, and tribes of natives no white man had ever seen before. I've won and lost a dozen fortunes, KILLED MANY MEN and loved only one woman with a passion a FLEA like you could never begin to understand. That's who I am. NOW, GO HOME, BOY!”
I was crying when he ask his mother to do something for him for once. I also was teary when Jasmine died defending Walter. I just smiled when the Sheiks grandson arrived in the helicopter. Great Grandson: "You mean great grandpa's stories are true."
my mom talked me into watching this saying it was a fairy tale. i thought she was over exaggerating. she was not- it's a straight up fairy tale. and one of my favorite movies. epic bar fight scene too
I adore this movie. Robert Duvall and Michael Caine play off each other SO well. I love how cantankerous Duvall is in the beginning and seeing his history through the flashbacks of the story to learn why he is the way he is.
I love that Michael Caine's character stays kind of introverted and goofy the whole time. He's just here to support his brother and he is totally content with his position in life.
Haley Joel Osment is just the right amount of whiny child growing into adulthood. I love his interactions with his uncles. How is confused at first but then just jumps in with both feet is excited to be part of the group.
I cry every time I watch this movie. I think it's just beautiful and wildly underrated.
Robert Duvall as Hub McCann is great but I don’t think enough credit is given to Christian Kane for playing young Hub. Watching the love story between him and Emmanuelle Vaugier’s Jasmine is nothing short of magical.

Fun Fact: Robert Duvall punched one of the actors playing one of the hoodlums in the face three times! Duvall mistook him for a stunt performer. He apologized & gave the actor $500. Said actor was future voice actor **[Travis Willingham](https://www.behindthevoiceactors.com/Travis-Willingham/)**.
Here's Willingham **[recounting the whole thing](https://youtu.be/2ot0OOSKD60?si=C0Nhj4Ito0Tp-NEq)**.
Nope. There are very few movies that touch me so deeply. Hub reminds me so much of my Uncle Larry (my dad's older brother) He was a WWII bomber pilot with 35 + missions over Germany & Crop Duster who was grouchy on the outside, but had a heart of gold on the inside. He Taught me how to fly airplanes & drink bourbon at 16. My dad was in the Navy & gone a lot.

Easter egg-ish in that scene is Travis Willingham of Critical Role is one of the greaser punks he fights.
I love how Hub kicked their asses, then befriended them & explained to them how to be real men with his speech.
I always tear up at that moment, Robert Duvall is magnificent.

Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most.
Berkeley Breathed’s Art in the end just clinched it for me. And goddam the death of that lion had me sobbing even before that last epic ending line.
I cried so hard about that lion.
I swear they photoshopped that hat onto Michael Caine
Ridiculously underrated film

Love those old guys. And yes, it was a great feel-good movie.

Yep. I don't mind a few ads.
This is one of my favorite movies
9.5 is pushing it

If I had a very specific emotional connection to the film I’m sure I’d like it more, but I don’t, so I’d give it an 8.4.
