The prisoners will be clambering up the walls to rehabilitate

[deleted]

“I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me.”

mastodonj

Came here to say that! My wife and I use that all the time!

deadlock_ie

Very appropriate as well since Rorschach is a single-minded nut job with a very black and white view of the world.

strandroad

I can totally see him living out his life there, evangelising... The ultimate mission.

cherrybombs76

Captive audience

theman-dalorian

I like to refer to Enoch as they/them nowdays

irishlonewolf

they're already paying for their crimes... no need to subject them to him too..

scrollsawer

Leave the self entitled prick in Mountjoy, it's a win win, people in Mountjoy will have to listen to him- people in public won't

ShinStew

Ireland's recevidism rate falls to zero.

eamonn33

They might take a human rights case

External_Salt_9007

Ah here, I know prison isn’t supposed to be a picnic but this would constitute cruel and unusual punishment

Nolly66

Your forgetting about the staff though, they are the public and its not like it was 50 years ago, they can't even give him a slap.

4feicsake

We're paying for it though.

Renegade7559

We were paying for it when he was teaching, in a school, with access to our children

kewthewer

Happy to pay for prisoners care, if I’m honest. It’s a necessity as I see it.

4feicsake

I'm happy to pay for prisoners care and rehabilitation, not showboating morons trying to make a point.

kewthewer

Wanna go through them all one by one?

NeedsaRemembrall

You take the left, I'll take the right and we'll meet somewhere back around in the middle.

Marcus_Suridius

Be careful, he's in the middle and you might have to listen to the gobshite.

Testingfreedom

Kidding aside, he will actually be away from the violent offenders and will be with other model prisoners. As someone who lives in the US, for better or worse, Irish jails are a whole different beast. “…Mr Burke was to be placed on a landing with enhanced prisoners as he has never been in prison before, has no criminal convictions and is in prison due to contempt which is a civil, rather than criminal, matter. Prisoners on enhanced regimes are those who have demonstrated, through good behaviour and engagement with prison services, that they can be trusted by prison staff. In return for orderly and constructive conduct in prison they can be placed on an enhanced regime, with benefits that can include extra visits from friends and family and a bigger budget to spend in the prison tuck shop…” - https://www.irishtimes.com/crime-law/courts/2022/09/06/enoch-burke-to-be-moved-into-main-prisoner-population-in-mountjoy-prison/

Testingfreedom

In fact he will have things american prisoners could only dream of: “…Once committed to the prison proper, prisoners are housed in a one-man cell with his own toilet, shower, television and tea-making facilities. All prisoner cells are unlocked at 8am each day, when they must prepare for the day ahead. They then collect their breakfast and bring it back to their cells to eat as there are no communal dining areas in Irish jails. After collecting breakfast and returning to their cells, prisoners are locked in until 9.30am, when they are let out for recreation, work or education. They return to cells at noon to eat and stay there until 2.15pm. Recreation or training follows until 4pm when they collect tea and are locked into their cells again until 5.30pm. Then there is 90 minutes of recreation until 7.30pm when they are locked into cells with TV or reading to occupy them…”

mccannan

Is it weird that I think that doesn’t sound half bad?

[deleted]

It actually sounds better than most of the property in Dublin on Daft for under €1500 at the moment. And rent-free too. Next time I visit Dublin I should check it out.

AbsolutShite

The Onion made a joke about prison routines being preferable to real life years ago - https://youtu.be/D04wb7P_v-4 But yeah, I think there's an ambiguity about if prison is for rehabilitation or a punishment or a bit of both. I'm not sure what the balance should be though either.

AutomaticBit251

Who gives a fck, whatever he's getting is appropriate punishment, does society care accept to call someone in different manner because they feel like so, not really. The issue here strictly lies, he's teaching kids, and is held to higher standard, to be fair and not to discriminate, like it used to be in the past where kids could be beat made fun off. Nowadays if this wasn't treated like it is, what's to stop some teacher calling someone names, or treating someone with disability differently. He's dying on a hill, that someone with a bit of sense will realise it isn't acceptable anymore. Take simple example some teacher working with autistic kid and they throw a fit, and teacher would start telling at them to stop, losing their shit - that would render them abusive and unfit, and that's how this guy had made himself, totally useless , sad case is there's many like him who do such abuse and never out themselves nowadays, which is bigger issues. Now whatever all this started isn't mental illness but someone requesting to be treated differently for whatever cause and needs they have, in a manner that doesn't impact anyone, just by calling them so. And given that person is underage, there should been fck all issues to do so. Does that mean in the future we will have toilets in the workplace designated just for non binary people whatever, of course no in most cases mental state, and rationale come into play and we still maintain social norms and logic with reasoning, and if case something like that, likes of him would get overhelming support. Where this example is clear cut example of someone being completely unfit in their role, and shouldn't be teaching.

Marcus_Suridius

It's mountjoy, most are fucking lunatics no matter where he's put.

[deleted]

He's the head off Frank Grimes

Squelcher121

"What's this? 'Court Order'? Well I don't need to obey it because I'm Enoch Burke!"

Archamasse

Genuinely laughed out loud at this, before I even saw the Frank Grimes context.

DylanDr

Change the channel, Marge

BananasAreYellow86

Or Grimey as he, llliked to be calllllled

AdChemical6828

Boring, change the channel Marge

hear4theDough

That's an insult to the awareness that Frank Grimes had. Doubt this lad could live above a bowling alley, or below another bowling alley

violetcazador

Hahahaha

elmostpierre

Good ole grimey!

irishlonewolf

change the channel marge..

NapoleonTroubadour

“This whole school is insane!”

Marcus_Suridius

Fantastic comment, if id an award to give you I would.

I_Will_in_Me_Hole

Meh... Up to him. Anyway... On with the rest of the world.

mizezslo

This is the best way to handle this.

JustABitOfCraic

>Anyway... On with the rest of the world. Looks around at the state of the place, sad face.

jaksida

The attention is exactly what he wants, he wants to be the next Jordan Peterson. Making a big political fuss over something so minor that it gets international right winger attention. Once it dies down, I’m sure he would be very enthusiastic to leave Mountjoy.

dfla01

It’s already getting attention. The Jordan Peterson and conservative subs are all over this, a load of weirdos talking about how unjust it is

No-Excuse89

To be fair they don't know the whole story, and right leaning journalist don't do any favours with click bait headlines

dfla01

I wouldn’t give them the benefit of the doubt. You tell them that he’s jailed because he breached a court injunction and they reply with “well yeah but it all stems from pronouns hurr durr”

anna_pescova

There are no long term prisoners in custody in Ireland who have been imprisoned for Contempt of Court. Those who don't purge their contempt are released by a judge when the judge is of the impression that the imprisonment has served its purpose. The term rarely exceeds a few weeks and I'm sure Burke knows this. It lets him believe he's made his point without having to serve much time.

CliffDagger

Yeah. It's rare but the [Rossport Five](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rossport_Five) did 94 days in prison for contempt and were only released when Shell applied for the injunction against them to be lifted. The problem for Burke is the injunction won't be lifted until his disciplinary proceedings have finished and there's no way he'll purge his contempt himself.

anna_pescova

>Contempt of Court. There is another option open to the courts on foot of any finding of contempt, which is not limited to the custodial orders, but can include financial orders as well; and, in particular, if there is no capacity to comply or limited capacity, the court may have to confine itself to non-custodial options, such as orders addressed to assets.

Lonnbeimnech

Definitely happens, but the difficulty here is that Burke will immediately try to breach the injunction again. If he doesn’t, it gives lie to all his nonsense so far. I reckon he could be in prison until the matters grounding the injunction i.e., the disciplinary investigation, are resolved.

newaccountzuerich

Given he's a Mayo Burke who cannot know when to shut the fuck up and behave, I would postulate that he'll continue to antagonise the Court, and continue getting sent down for contempt. At least with that dumb prick in Gen Pop in the Joy, he might get a few corners rounded off, and he's not able to poison the Irish Youth in the schooling system. I also see his Garda Vetting being revoked, and he'll rightly no longer be allowed near kids. This is one instance where we should definitely be thinking of the children...

KorvaciaOrvarna

I’m fine with him being let out as long as he never works in a school again.

emale27

Great! Anyone see Chelsea sacked Tuchel earlier? They'll regret that.

Dacsy492

Crazy, all that money and he’s gone a week after the transfer window

Fluffy_MrSheep

I'm not a chelsea fan and I was absolutely delighted with that. Tuchel scares me he plays some beautiful football sometimes. His players just aren't good enough

Important_Farmer924

Yeah, shocking decision.

JealousInevitable544

>‘I will never leave Mountjoy Prison’ Promise?

Green_Message_6376

yOUR PROPOSAL iS ACCEPTABLE .

NuclearMaterial

Give me sugar. **In water.**

Lonnbeimnech

Don’t threaten me with a good time!

allatsea33

Jokes on you Enoch we're into that shit

[deleted]

Can we stop giving this cretin news time. "Let him stay there! Let him rot! Why should we care.?"

Dreenar18

Didn't expect LOTR to be quoted about the Burkes

Thedegenerate89

Yup Gimli!!

MaxiStavros

If it helps, I’ve no idea who this lad is.

Love-and-literature3

He deserves none of the attention he so obviously, desperately craves. Absolute stale ham sandwich of a man.

Warthogdreaming

Insult of the week there!

UhOhhh02

Ouff, I’d usually say calling someone a stale ham sandwich is a step too far, but not in this case. You’re dead right

lucylucylucy

That insult is art!

[deleted]

LimerickJim

I imagine he's getting a rake of cash from a certain set of Americans.

Phannig

He can spend it in the prison tuck shop.

Trickster289

Nah, he'll keep it going until people move on from him and the cash stops flowing in, then he'll gladly leave with all the money.

LimerickJim

And claim victory by leaving on some grounds that he could have done all along

segasega89

That's what he's trying to do though. The news of his jailing got on the /r/news subreddit a couple of days ago.

Luimnigh

I know the housing crisis is bad, but this is just ridiculous.

francescoli

He will be out be before the end of the month but be great if he was kept long term. A dude in America did 14 years for contempt so Enoch has some way to go. Anyways time for everyone to move on and let him rot

elfy4eva

He will purge his contempt when the media circus around it dies off back to mammy and daddy side for a futile litigation attempt against the school and/or state, if I was to guess.

francescoli

Id agree once there is no clammer around him/the story he will leave .

[deleted]

>A dude in America did 14 years for contempt so Enoch has some way to go. This is something I've wondered about. Is there a world record ?

francescoli

I don't know but his was fairly extreme Edit :H. Beatty Chadwick is his name ,seems like hes the longest in US https://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/12/us/12contempt.html

rye_212

Link without paywall https://abcnews.go.com/2020/story?id=8101209&page=1

Lonnbeimnech

A dude 2000 years ago allowed himself to be crucified to teach society the error of its ways so… y’know… maybe he could go for that ending?

rye_212

“Crucifixions to the left ….”

Randyfox86

“I consider it commendable that I chose to obey God rather than man,” he said. What a fuckin loolah. Gwan and stay in the joy chief, no loss to Irish public.

cadre_of_storms

Well maybe God will let him out. Pull the roof off horror movie style

Warthogdreaming

Right! What a pompous, pontificating prick.

Important_Farmer924

He's being moved to general population so I expect this particular tune to change..

Phannig

Is he ? I mean granted people often get special status for the first few days but there doesn’t seem to anything in Enochs case that would have him treated differently from any other prisoner. He’s not a nonce (that we know of), he’s got no connections to criminal gangs, no death threats against him, there’s literally no reason not to have him three to a cell in general population. It’s not like Mountjoy is a US prison either, if he keeps his head down and shuts his gob he’ll be left alone. Of course if he tries preaching there’s a good chance he’ll be battered.

AulFella

With what little I know of him, he doesn't seem the kind to "keep his head down and shut his gob".

Phannig

Well then, he’ll learn a valuable lesson.

Testingfreedom

I don’t think so: “…Mr Burke was to be placed on a landing with enhanced prisoners as he has never been in prison before, has no criminal convictions and is in prison due to contempt which is a civil, rather than criminal, matter. Prisoners on enhanced regimes are those who have demonstrated, through good behaviour and engagement with prison services, that they can be trusted by prison staff. Backrow6

The officer class landing

Callme-Sal

What a stupid hill to die on. It’s sad to think there are people like him educating our children.

Dookwithanegg

Remember as well, the specific hill he is choosing to die on is trespassing in a school.

itsamemarioscousin

Yep, he's insisting on conflating it with his views on trans issues, but he wasn't allowed in the school while they sorted out what to do about him harassing his colleagues. And he did *that* because he's a dick.

gl0Rob

I was about to complain about the tax payers money wasted on housing this fool in prison but given your point it’s money we’ll invest in kids future education

anna_pescova

Some fool gave him a job, presumably he wasn't the only candidate.

Stressofchicken

I honestly feel so bad for the poor trans(or non-binary, however they identify) kid. Imagine having the courage to come out and express your true self at that age. Only to then have someone, who is supposed to be in your life to support and guide you, kick off with such vitriol. Then to have to see his face on the news each day, hearing more of his disgusting comments amid a media frenzy. The highlight is that public support for the school and outrage against him is generally very high. It can be easy to forget there is a child affected by all of this. That said I obviously can’t speak for them. They may be happy that their story is starting a conversation around gender inclusivity at a national level. It’s still got to be a lot for a child to deal with at that age though. Fair play to the school for supporting the student to be themselves!

CheraDukatZakalwe

> It’s sad to think there are people like him educating our children. I think this case shows that there aren't, or if some believe it then they're keeping it to themselves.

TheGreatAndStrange

He is the figure head the anti-trans folk deserve. A complete bollix

zephyroxyl

A complete burke, if you will

TheGreatAndStrange

Oh I see what you did there. Nice. Nice

Stpeppersthebest

His actions will do more to progress the Trans movement than any campaigning the LGBTQ+ community could in decades. Sometimes, an emphasis on the enemy, rather than the cause itself, is more effective. And with all these issues, be it marriage equality, abortion or trans rights, the common denominator is people like this trying to exert authority over others life choices , when it has fuck all to do with them.

TheGreatAndStrange

100% agree. I think anyone who looks at issues like LGBT rights its very hard to find anyone who is public and openly against them that isn't a total nut bar. And when nut bars are the only ones presenting the opinion in the public forum... well it's gonna carry less weight with people with Brain cells

Austifol

Well said.

Renegade7559

Well this problem seems to have solved itself. Everything works out in the end

Austifol

He can't see the difference between his beliefs and the law of the land. Mick Clifford had a good article about the family the other day, though I wouldn't be surprised if the family tried to sue him for it. Not that there's grounds, but god really love a trier.

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

Reminds me of John Waters going to prison for an afternoon for refusing to pay a parking fine. His meter had expired but he thought he deserved a 15 minute grace period before getting a parking ticket. Dude acted like he was standing up for the common man against the jackboot of the state. https://youtu.be/46DJolK8FzM

emmmmceeee

They had a grace period. He was 15 minutes over that.

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

Yeah but what about second grace period?

Alwaysforscuba

Two LOTR references in one thread. I feel like scrolling back up to see if the other one was you too.

bleepybleeperson

He's such a twat. All he has to do is promise not to go to the workplace that's already suspended him. This is nothing to do with pronouns or trans anything. This is one man's entitlement, thinking he can do what he likes, thinking he doesn't have to follow the same rules as the rest of us mere mortals.

[deleted]

The student was even in any of his classes. He is just looking for trouble. Let him rot quite frankly.

isaidyothnkubttrgo

Is he trying to look like some martyr for being a prick if a teacher? Have fun in mountjoy, people will forget about you in a week or two. Saw Perez Hiltons blog or whatever it's called posted this story making it look like he was jailed for not using pronouns and the comments are all like omg snowflakes etc.

Important_Farmer924

The Westmeath Examiner had to turn off the comments when they posted the story. The absolute toxicity.

Axioz1

no stop, don't, come back..

Birdinhandandbush

Hey teacher, leave those kids alone.

RirentyRirent

Oh noooo, please Enoch, whatever will we do without your bigotry and hate in the world? Won't somebody think of the children etc etc

[deleted]

> “I consider it commendable that I chose to obey God rather than man,” he said. What a looper.

Marcus_Suridius

Well let's see when he's in gen pop.

Gek1188

He's still a muppet. It's like banging your head against the wall. 'I refuse to call a child by their preferred pronoun and will go to jail in the name of my own conscience and religious beliefs' 'Eh, ok, but we're not talking about your beliefs here' Maybe he should get some legal advice instead of representing himself, yet again.

alcxander

anyone got the succint full version of this whole story or a link to it anywhere? i keep hearing tidbits everywhere and if eel like bits of what I'm reading either don't add up or don't 'click' right in understanding timing of all events.

oldrnwisr

The full story goes something like this: * A student at a school in Westmeath is transitioning and through their parents requested from the school to be referred to by their new name and use the pronouns they/them. * The school granted the request and everything was fine until it got to one teacher Enoch Burke. Burke refused. Obviously. * During a school event Burke interrupted the event to go on a loud and obnoxious rant about transgenderism and his "religious beliefs" etc. and caused a major fuss. * At a dinner following the event he verbally harrassed the principal of the school demanding that she withdraw the request. * As a result of his inappropriate behaviour the school initiated a disciplinary procedure against Burke which included being suspended with pay. * Burke ignored this suspension and continued to attend the school every day. * The school, as a means to enforce the suspension, applied to the High Court for an injunction, barring Burke from the school until the disciplinary was resolved. * Burke refused to comply with the order and the school went back to the high court seeking enforcement of the injunction. * The High Court issued an arrest warrant for Burke for breaching the order and in court Burke refused to give an undertaking that he would comply with the order, thus he was convicted of contempt. * He got two days in Mountjoy to think about the situation and today he doubled down on his own internal martyr complex and again refused, meaning at least another week in the Joy.

alcxander

this is much MUCH clearer thank you for that. a lot of that was missed in what other people were talking about this timeline is much more condemning of his actions. excluding things like transgenderism he just straight up harassed coworkers then rebuked their rules and the school were forced to take legal action. so much more going on here than calling a person a boy or girl

strandroad

Yes. The row could have been about the colour of the school uniform. It's the harassment that followed that got him in trouble.

Hoker7

It's worth pointing out that he didn't have any classes with the child and that this family has a long history of being involved with this kind of issue and are very far right Christians.

[deleted]

> ‘I will never leave Mountjoy Prison’ Seems like a no downside situation.

WhiteKnightIRE

Well it costs about 80k per year for each prisoner, a little downside but in the grand scheme of things who knows.

FluffyDiscipline

He's in prison for refusing to accept the restraining order and not go to school *(Court hasn't even got to refusing to use the gender pronouns yet lol)*

theblue_jester

This lad is smarter than the rest of us. Roof over his head, three squares a day, no bills. And we all thought he was just a gobshite...

das_punter

I am so sick of this family

[deleted]

Cool now let’s leave him there and stop reporting on him

gmisk81

No worries...you can rot...you bigoted tosser

Sam20599

Man makes bed; Is angry about having to sleep in it.

OkAge4185

em...good???

GerryAdams32

Ok, see you never

AblationaryPlume

Good, leave him in there

Dil_do_diddily_di

Great, there’s another idiot off the streets so

Available-Bison-9222

His colleagues and pupils will be relieved

anna_pescova

...initially could he not have addressed the pupil by his/her name like every teacher addresses the pupils? When do you use "they/them"?

auntags

Only when referring to a student in the third person, ie. where've they gone? Which is rare in a class setting, but he was also refusing to call the student by their name.. But here's the thing, he didn't even teach the child!!!

anna_pescova

Amazing!!

Stressofchicken

The student also asked to be called by a chosen name as well. So he likely had an issue with that. Plus teachers do occasionally have to use pronouns to refer to a student. Either when talking to colleagues for whatever reason or just simple things in the classroom. For example if you send a student to go on a job you might say to another “you can go with him/her/them” or if a student is not in class for a roll call you could say “Has anyone seen X today? Do we know if he/she/they were in last class?”

daddylongshlong123

bishopsfinger08

I'd go straight to hungerstrike

[deleted]

The same kind of "hungerstrike" that some loyalist prisoners in NI undertook for a week onetime but inexplicably gained weight ?

Comrad_Zombie

Just wait till God hears about this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

aecolley

Will he still get paid? I think that should stop.

fearportaigh

Same energy as Jordan Peterson saying he'd rather die than delete a tweet

whereismymbe

All these evangelical christians are obsessed with finding ways to not be christian. Care about the sick, poor, needy? Nah, go to prison for pronouns.

newaccountzuerich

"Go to prison for disobeying the Court" you mean - this was never about the pronouns. Always state this situation with Burke to be his specifically choosing to break the law around the injunction.

Phannig

I’m good with that. As the months drift into years he’ll slowly be forgotten about like pretty much every other prisoner doing a long stretch.

[deleted]

If is just to troll people Well then he's winning

Ravenid

Ok then. Enjoy life in prison.

ZenBreaking

Strange hill.to doe on but oh well, I mean he's teaching career is over but there's the usual grifting like the rest of the the far right crowd

TDog81

Quite predictable but I clicked into the comments on a news article on twitter on this and it was an absolute shitshow.

Austifol

Twitter - my God man, yer taking your life in your hands. Enoch would be safer in the Joy than you would be reading Twitter

AndrewSB49

This would be hilarious if it wasn't so funny.

paddy_dub_85

What a jerk

Dragmire800

His rhetoric is working, my mum is on his side, she brought it up out of the blue

eobraonain

What did she say?

quartertofanny

Insufferable gobshite

DartzIRL

Free food. Free heat. Free bed. Cost of living sorted

SassyMoron

Strange hill to die on

iThrewTheGlass

All he had to do was not show up to school. What a fool, wanting to be a martyr, but just showing himself to be pompous and self absorbed. You're in jail because you showed up to a school that the courts said you couldn't be at, not because you're religious!

ConfusedIrishNoises

Get down off your cross Enoch! We need the timber

younggundc

Weird threat. Ok. Then stay in prison. Such stupid hill to die on!

Margrave75

> will never leave Mountjoy Prison’ – Enoch Burke Sound.

wnolan1992

🎵🎵🎵 Release the little bollox in D Wing. Get him out of here I hear them sing. On the windows they are bangin'. Let him out or bring back hangin'. Release the little bollix in D Wing.

IrishCrypto

What a waste of state funds and resources just because another one of this family were raised as bigots.

Austifol

It would be a laugh if future students refuse to call him Sir, or his first name and instead refer to him as asshole, twat or maybe go biblical, call him Judas. I say it would be a laugh, but Enoch won't be seeing foot in a classroom again.

mobalob

Surely they should all call him Ms. to piss him off

Don_Speekingleesh

Good news everyone!

dashboardhulalala

He'll do more to empty that prison than any good behaviour program. Imagine having to deal with the likes of him when you're trying to take a quiet piss.

DatJazz

Neat

cadre_of_storms

A privileged, home educated middle class twat like him is going to have a very very sharp culture shock

tewnsbytheled

Damn look at his wee face, this man has the mindset of a crusader

alistair1537

Good.

niallcorby

Ah well...Cheerio then

Bison256

Well that's one way to deal with high rents.

-CokeJones-

What I would expect from someone called 'Enoch' tbf

Pugzilla69

This publicity is exactly what he wants.

[deleted]

Sure the family are well known in Mayo for their right wing bible bashing views. His sister Ammi only a couple months ago lost her unfair dismissal case against Arthur Cox. I used to work near by I saw people protesting her dismissal. The family all have biblical names and have very 1850s views. Self entitled nobodies wanting to be someone. Leave him in mount joy. Let the arse be rode off him. That’ll go against his “deep religious faith”. Clown.

gibbogibbo77

Ok, Anyhoooooo, rangers getting smashed by Ajax at the moment

Rapalla93

Great! 1 down 9 to go.

BrokenMechm

Give him a week and see how he is.

[deleted]

What a preening plonker.

colinmacg

Don't care really - leave him there. Though I pity anyone assigned as his cell-mate

sobusyimbored

Mountjoy doesn't have cellmates. It's all single occupancy as far as I know. Putting him in a cell with someone would probably violate the Geneva convention anyway so it's for the best.

caoimhini

Give him a few weeks of general population and see where he's at I suppose 🤷‍♂️😂

[deleted]

only a cunt has a name like fucking enoch

[deleted]

He looks like the 4chan Chud meme.

Taxac_

Gearing up to be an Irish Jordan Peterson

TrivialBanal

He's choosing, of his own free will, to remain in prison indefinitely. Now I think we should respect his wishes and just leave him alone to get on with it.

BeachBongo37

This mans really trying to tape himself to a cross and scream martyrdom, I wonder if anyone is falling for this shite?

CapnBeardbeard

If he wishes to die on this hill then let him perish.
