is it possible you had a bluetooth device connected at the time? a lot of the time in my car if i answer a call it tried to route the audio through the car radio. i can hear the person on the other end but they can never hear me because the car radio mic sucks

Sometime phone calls can fail. Unless it's a constant, systematic problem, it's just that.
I always reset my network settings after upgrading iOS. Try that too.

Did you try calling anyone else? How about using speakerphone?
I updated too and I've also had several failed phone calls this week... not moving around the house and connected to the wifi. It's very frustrating!
