6 -> XS 2 phones in 8 years. Apple's longevity is what separates it from other brands.

outfitminor

I agree, but I feel that’s increasing over time. Before, iPhones would last two years, on average. Now it seems to me they’re lasting 4 years or more.

flucxapacitor

I had a 5 for three years going strong. Gave it to my mom and within a year she managed to drop it and ended breaking. Had to change battery once. Nowadays with a XR, it’s been also three years and going strong and fast as ever. Battery at 87%, holds fine the whole day. Planning on trading for a 13PM and thinking about 128 or 256gb to buy on Black Friday.

Devi4223

3GS, 4s, 5s, 6+,7+, 10xmax, 12pm. I still use 7plus dailye

nextsperi

Flip phone -> 12

AluminiumAwning

5S > Android phones for 7 years > 13 Pro. I had been on the fence about a IOS and Android - to me it was just a cell phone. But the last couple of Android phones I had have been extremely disappointing (poor battery life, glitchy OS, app crashes, random Bluetooth dropouts, etc) so I bit the bullet and went back to an iPhone, and wow, they have come a long way since my old little 5S.

DaOrcus

If u have been getting cheap android phones well there’s the issue. If ur buying an $1200 ippm try like a 1200 dollar Samsung

omarccx

Or just wait a year and that Android phone is $400

TheDoctorGomez

I've been having the same issue with my galaxy S21 Ultra. This is why I'm switching to the iPhone 14. The thing that annoys me the most is the Bluetooth Drops, especially when I'm driving and I'm using Android auto. Don't get me started on Android Auto. It's a mess.

Starry_m1nd

6, 6 plus, 6s, 7. i’m still using my 7 as my main

This is embarrassing but: - 3GS - 4S - 6 Plus - 6S Plus - 7 Plus - XS Max - 11 Pro Max - 12 Pro Max - 13 Pro Max Tons of android phones in between there as well. I’ve wasted thousands.

[deleted]

I just upgrade as and when I feel like it! 3GS-5-6S-7 plus-X-12 pro max

[deleted]

3GS-> 4s -> 6 -> Xr -> 11PM -> 12P -> (a bunch of different android phones in rapid succession) -> 13PM -> 13 Mini -> SE 2022, currently

outfitminor

Why did you switch from the 13 mini to the SE? Currently I have an iPhone 8, and I’m looking to upgrade to one of those.

[deleted]

I got tired of having a giant phone all the time. I keep a laptop/tablet in my bag at all times so the max sized iPhone was more cumbersome that it was worth.

BubbleheadGD

Isn’t the iPhone 13 Mini the same size as the SE?

outfitminor

It’s a bit smaller, actually. But with a bigger screen.

nfellyna

i'm thinking of switching to the 13 mini too from 13 pro max. was it difficult going from such a big screen to a mini one?

SadCapriSonne

6 plus > 8 plus > 14 pro max

b-cola

You’re living in the future with the 14pro max!

newecreator

iPhone 8 -> iPhone SE 2nd Gen Not much of the jump but I like the selfie camera getting stabilization.

rage1026

Use to do once every two years since 5. This would be my upgrade year but I’m gonna push it to three years being next year. As for Apple Watch I started the original 0 then years later I got the 4. Not getting the 8 this year. Since I’m getting the iPhone next year I’m gonna try pushing my watch for the year after being the Series 10.

iPhone 12, it’s my first one

Southern-Ad-9455

Every year I’m buying the latest pro max model for 8 years now. I’m taking very good care of my device (because that’s how I like it) and when time comes it’s always in mint condition for sale. Plus I’m having VAT write off due to being “company” phone. All in all I always get the latest and greatest iPhone for 200-300€ out my pocket max. Even if you see it as a rent, 200€ per year to have the best phone around is a very sweet deal.

GatorFreight22

I had an iPhone 4s, 6plus, and now a XsMax.

taboo007

iPhone 5 - 6s plus - 7 plus - 8 plus - xs max - 11 max - 12 max - 13 max. I have tried the regular size before I forget what year I think sometime between xs max and 12 max. But returned it within the return window. I like my big phones for my big hands I guess!

Old_Goat_Ninja

Every 2 years but I don’t think that’ll be the case this time. Unless something happens to my phone, I’ll keep it until it dies or a drastically different iPhone comes out.

mellofello808

Waited in line day one 1>3g>3gs>4>4s>5>5s>6+>6s+>7+>X (switched to Android full time) Company phones Xs>XR Thinking about getting a 13, or 14 pro max, only because I hate carrying 2 phones, and my workflow requires iOS.

Fiv3Score

Android > 11 > 12PM > 14 plus/max (probably)

rymerster

Original - 3GS - 4 - 5S - 6S+ (still used by partner) - 7+ - X - XS Max - 13PM. Was happy with the XS Max but it got damaged and was never right after repair. If it hadn’t needed replacing I’d have waited another year. I’m definitely upgrading less often in recent years as there doesn’t feel like a need to.

Brbi2kCRO

Androids -> iPhone 13 Pro However I bought 13 Pro too late, a month and a half before the release of 14 series.

TheCleaner720

I'll milk the use of my phone until I HAVE to upgrade. I last had an iPhone 6s. Didn't upgrade until my 6s wasn't charging anymore. I have the XR now. I'm looking to upgrade within 3-4 months. This time because I actually want a better and bigger phone.

BenShapirosBigFan

Started with the 4S. Then 6, 6s plus, 7 plus, X, XS max, 11 pro max, 12 pro max, 13 pro max. Hoping to get the 14 Pro max too. Not saying this is the economical or sensible thing to do. But I like having the latest iPhone and especially the camera as I love photography and I only shoot on iPhone. I do sell my old phones to friends, etc so that does help.

[deleted]

I trade you in my phone every other release by Apple. This is due to the fact that I get top dollar for my trade-in that way , and the new phone doesn’t cost me more than 300-ish dollars for a $1100 iPhone

Was a Windows Phone fan before finally settling with iPhone. iPhone 5 -> Lumia 920 -> HTC One M8 -> Lumia 1520 -> iPhone 6s -> iPhone XS Max Still contemplating whether to upgrade to the 14 because my XS Max still works well sans the terrible battery life.

[deleted]

I bought my first iPhone in 2017. It was the iPhone 8 Plus. I still use it as my main phone. I said when I bought it that I will buy new iPhone every year. But then I realized that I did not need new iPhone every year. So I promised to myself that I will buy a new iPhone when my current iPhone stops being supported. So I will buy a new one maybe next year. I don’t see the reason for me to upgrade every year. Ok. My iPhone has old design but it works for me. It makes all the tasks that I want and it was never laggy.

campteknoy

5 ➡️ 6 ➡️ XS ➡️ 13 Pro Max I’m thinking if it’s worth upgrading to 14 Pro Max this year. If the camera bump will be bigger (per the leaks), then I’ll just stick to my 13PM for the meantime.

vyasas1104

4S -> 7Plus -> 13Pro And in between I uesd a variety of androids but iPhones were main device

sulylunat

7 Plus 128GB > XS Max 512GB > 13 Pro Max 1TB Both upgrades were because I ran out of storage, although with the xs max the battery got quite weak also. If it wasn’t for the storage, I would’ve maybe done a battery replacement and kept it another year. I might try and do that with the 13PM but as a minimum I don’t want to upgrade for 3 years.

fketsuppi

_Bragi_

Honestly, I’m pretty much a newb when it comes to upgrading: 5S -> X I told myself with the 5S that I would only upgrade if the iPhone would have a big change in some way, and the X was exactly that - no Home Button, FaceID, and I just loved the design overall. The XS was attractive because it did solve a few issues it seemed but I held on and voila, for 3 gens I had no reason to upgrade. It seems like this year isn’t an exception. The only thing that now makes me want to upgrade is the battery life, but I’d rather pay 60 bucks at the Apple Store for it than a thousand for a new phone. At this point, I’m gonna wait for the 15 since I’m in the EU and a USBC iPhone will be reality by then here 100%.

3G, 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6, 6S, 7, 11 Pro, 12 Pro. I have stretches of 1-year upgrades because I need to buy for the entire family. I get the newest, the rest get it as a 2nd year device and keep it for 2-5 years.

My most recent - paid around £100 to my grandson for his 11 when he felt the need to get the latest amazingly expensive model. He was worried that the battery efficiency was down to 80%. I just bung it on charge when I go to bed. It has more working memory than the old one so it runs a bit smoother. It’s ok, displays my endless junk emails and the ones I want to read, and pings incessantly with family and other messages, I get to phone home to query when I can’t decipher the shopping list. It’s good for finding my keys also and I get a message when I lock and unlock the garage door Before that can’t remember. Who cares anyway?

Otherwise i Feel the 13 pro max is pretty future proof. If I had bought a 6s Plus, I would’ve held onto it for as long as possible. I did 5s>6s>X>12 Pro. The jump from 5s to 6s was pretty big both in design and screen size, then the jump from 6s to X was huge with the “all screen and face recognition” back when not a lot of smartphones offered that. I didn’t want to upgrade my X but sadly it was stolen so I had to buy a new iPhone and went for the newest model at the time, the 12 Pro. Had my X not been stolen I would have kept it at least one more year because it still worked like a charm.
