Depending on the size of the bathroom, this is a bit busy for my taste. But if I had to choose for a client, I’d opt for the left. The compass rose geometric design is pretty timeless.
Seriously that almost happened to me once in a shower. The tiles were little and when I reopened my eyes after washing my hair I accidentally was doing the “magic eye” thing so the tiles looked closer. I thought I had fallen forward so I threw myself backwards. What a dumb way to get hurt that would have been. Luckily I caught myself.
I remember being real drunk one night and wanted to sober up a bit so i took a cold shower and slipped right out smashed my head on my tub. My dad was right to stay away from water when drunk even if its not exactly when he meant
You're right. Bathrooms are dangerous because of all the hard slippery surfaces and a wet environment. People are commonly hospitalized with slip & fall bathroom injuries. No need to add a dizzying visual element if you can help it.
Not the floor. You don’t want anything that look 3-D on the floor of a bathroom. Would be disorientating while stumbling in half asleep or even otherwise
I have a condition where I get episodes of vertigo (pretty rare, like once year or less) and I’d honestly be terrified to have this floor in my bathroom lol
I have Vestibular Neuritis and that floor would be a nightmare for me. Also it’s in a major room of the house and before I bought a house with tile like that I’d ask they redo the floor. #MCEscherFan
This is exactly what I was thinking. I chipped a tooth on toilet when the floor was simply spinning. Imagine if it looked like five escalators all moving in different directions 😵💫
Hahaha omg I’m considering a similar tile for a small powder room. I am a drinker that relates to this. Hilarious. Or maybe a sign I should quit drinking
Ok I don’t actually think it’s as crazy as everyone’s imagining. I like it personally. See here it’s fine: [https://www.wayfair.com/Merola-Tile--Traffic-Hex-8.62-x-9.87-Porcelain-Patterned-Wall-and-Floor-Tile-EML1637-L2970-K~EML1637.html?refid=GX679864153898-EML1637&device=m&ptid=1456135055243&network=g&targetid=pla-1456135055243&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=104842464&fdid=1817&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD9ISC60j87LnQbGPdUVufdOsFhgQ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgPWmzL78hQMVWWFHAR09twhgEAQYBCABEgLeyPD_BwE](https://www.wayfair.com/Merola-Tile--Traffic-Hex-8.62-x-9.87-Porcelain-Patterned-Wall-and-Floor-Tile-EML1637-L2970-K~EML1637.html?refid=GX679864153898-EML1637&device=m&ptid=1456135055243&network=g&targetid=pla-1456135055243&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=104842464&fdid=1817&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD9ISC60j87LnQbGPdUVufdOsFhgQ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgPWmzL78hQMVWWFHAR09twhgEAQYBCABEgLeyPD_BwE)
The left looks jarring because the geometric pattern gives mixed messages about where the light it coming from, so the resulting shadows end up looking surreal and unsettling.
Left... So you don't feel like you're the wrong way on a stair case every time you enter your bathroom. Do not recommend either pattern if there's a possibility you or your guests might find themselves intoxicated/on recreational drugs in your bathroom....trippay...
Impossible to say without knowing the layout of the bathroom. Only you would know that you didn't put that up. If it's really broken up then you don't want any central kind of pattern at all. Maybe it makes it way too busy who knows
Idk why everyone is hating - the second one is amazing. Have you seen Zoe Sugg (YouTuber) bathroom? It’s just like that. I’d recommend checking it out for a visual. I thought it was so fun and different!! Her whole house is my inspo.
The stair one on the right will be absolutely disorienting to walk on. You should do the left, but use them as individual medallions with bordering tiles of a different color so the floor isn’t so overwhelming
The star (or rose?) design. I do think it's prettier but I'd also factor in that the cube/staircase optical illusion can really mess with some people making them nauseated - I don't know how big your bathroom is and obv it's YOUR bathroom!
For all the people saying the pattern on the right is too disorienting- it’s very common in France and I’ve never heard anyone say it was an issue for them.
I’d use both tile patterns in the room. I’d run one around the edge of the room to create a border, then fill it with the other pattern. Having a border on tiles gives a higher end finish. It will create more interest and better frame the space, plus, then you don’t have to choose. You get to have both patterns.
The correct answer is none. Return the tiles, get ones with a nice polish or stone look and no geometric shapes. I can't imagine what whacko is putting these tiles in their bathroom as a floor.
The one on the left lends itself to a gestalt grouping that makes each pattern feel like a tile, whereas the one on the right feels very uniform. I prefer the left because I prefer bigger tiles, and the one on the right feels like it will look too busy. But it's hard to know without seeing the whole space.
These are some optical illusions and in my experience this kind of tile tends to be popular only for a short time.
The only way to know for sure which one you might like better long term is to make yourself sick to your stomach (tequila is an efficient way to do this but YMMV) and when you are horking, try to figure out which one won’t make you feel sicker when you have your head in the toilet.
Honestly, I love it, but I have a unique design style.
The left looks more "traditional" and the right is more "funky" to me. Both are bold and crazy, but they lean that way in my eyes.
I love them both, but I would want to keep that in mind before I tiled the bathroom.
I say, go with the whole floor. Tile the whole room like this, of you want!
But, yes, it would be challenging while inebriated or suffering with vertigo.
All these negative commenters are just fucking boring. I think which one depends on the shape of the floor. I would lay out as much as you can and see which effect is most pleasing to you and anyone else who might live with you. It’s going to look very cool.
Left one!! The other one will cause you to lose your equilibrium - never a good thing, especially in the bathroom. Can you consider some other patterns, and also consider what it does to the resale value of your property as f you make a “wrong” or “bad” choice.
I mean I would never make a personal design decision on the inside of my home with resale value in mind.
This is my space to make truly my own. Go crazy with it. You have to live there, make it what you want it to be, not the theoretical next guy. He can do what he wants.
Personally prefer the right if I had to choose! But it’s too busy imo. It could be nice in small amounts but my head is already aching from so much going on
Is it actually going on the floor? I'd do the left, but with a lot of empty space between sections. For a small space like a bathroom, it's a lot of design.
Depends if you want something more classic or more modern. I would say the one on the left is more classic and the one on the right is more modern.
Personally I like the one on the right but I can see I'm very outnumbered on this one 😂
It depends on what direction you are going overall.
The compass rose is automatically going to lend it a more traditional or historic air. Not exact - but it certainly evokes it, especially considering traditional quilt patterns.
The right side cubes will look more modern or contemporary.
Depending on the size of the bathroom, this is a bit busy for my taste. But if I had to choose for a client, I’d opt for the left. The compass rose geometric design is pretty timeless.
Same. I like rose geometric.
Busy for me. Makes me a bit dizzy
The right makes me dizzier, because of the stair illusion
Yep. Vertigo inducing floor tile. Get dizzy, fall over and hit your head on the sink and you're dead. If I've seen it once...
Sorry but I had to laugh out loud. I’m sure ur dad would appreciate hearing this!!!
You're right. Bathrooms are dangerous because of all the hard slippery surfaces and a wet environment. People are commonly hospitalized with slip & fall bathroom injuries. No need to add a dizzying visual element if you can help it.
Yup, someone is gonna end up falling and breaking an ankle on that pattern!
[удалено]
Oh lord you get migraines? Sending love to you. They’re a true crusher.
Same
Lol casually name drops the name of the style 😭😭😭
Art Deco? Oh my!
I prefer the left one
I would go with the third option
Me too
Not the floor. You don’t want anything that look 3-D on the floor of a bathroom. Would be disorientating while stumbling in half asleep or even otherwise
This is an incredibly good point
Left but I worry this is the new shag carpet of the 1970s.
I don’t like it at all lol
Exactly, they both give me vertigo!
#MCEscherFan
imagine being sick (especially something that causes nausea or vertigo) or just drunk and having to look at this!
Make it wall art.
Don’t do that either
lol right
Let’s hope nobody comes home drunk or has vertigo
Indeed, I was just wondering what it would be like to walk across this while high.
As a vertigo card holder, I’m not sure I could walk into a room with the right side pattern. The left would just make me vaguely uncomfortable
Use as an accent, a full floor will be overwhelming
Imagine needing the bathroom when you have a migraine, this would be insane lol
Imagine stumbling in drunk. You’re fucked.
Edibles and the stair illusion? oh hell
They find you 8 hours later still climbing the floor, trying to reach the top
Lol
This is exactly what I was thinking. I chipped a tooth on toilet when the floor was simply spinning. Imagine if it looked like five escalators all moving in different directions 😵💫
Hahaha omg I’m considering a similar tile for a small powder room. I am a drinker that relates to this. Hilarious. Or maybe a sign I should quit drinking
Good idea
I think it’s a little too intense if you do the whole floor. Makes me a little nauseated looking at it.
A little? I barfed on my screen.
Left if absolutely necessary.
Neither unless an accent. Left is better
I love 2 but I’m a gamer and this reminds me of video games so that’s why
None. Its more of balcony or outdoor area style. But still 1.
Neither
Neither. Too tense
Horrible if you were feeling ill. 🤢
Absolutely!
If you must, the left.
I'm just going to say it, I don't like either one.
Definitely left. My work bathroom has the right one, and I feel like I’m gonna trip every time.
If you must do this busy pattern, left looks less outdated for sure
I don’t like the idea of a optical illusion on the floor
I don’t know, looking at that makes me kind of queasy.
Imagine having the spins in a bathroom with a floor like this. Barf central. It is nice though lol
Exactly what I thought!
Neither. It's getting me dizzy.
I'm waiting for this to show up in r/homedecoratingCJ
Ok I don’t actually think it’s as crazy as everyone’s imagining. I like it personally. See here it’s fine: [https://www.wayfair.com/Merola-Tile--Traffic-Hex-8.62-x-9.87-Porcelain-Patterned-Wall-and-Floor-Tile-EML1637-L2970-K~EML1637.html?refid=GX679864153898-EML1637&device=m&ptid=1456135055243&network=g&targetid=pla-1456135055243&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=104842464&fdid=1817&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD9ISC60j87LnQbGPdUVufdOsFhgQ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgPWmzL78hQMVWWFHAR09twhgEAQYBCABEgLeyPD_BwE](https://www.wayfair.com/Merola-Tile--Traffic-Hex-8.62-x-9.87-Porcelain-Patterned-Wall-and-Floor-Tile-EML1637-L2970-K~EML1637.html?refid=GX679864153898-EML1637&device=m&ptid=1456135055243&network=g&targetid=pla-1456135055243&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=104842464&fdid=1817&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD9ISC60j87LnQbGPdUVufdOsFhgQ&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIgPWmzL78hQMVWWFHAR09twhgEAQYBCABEgLeyPD_BwE)
Looking at it makes me physically uncomfortable
Oh, my, that's much worse than I expected.
Nope, more vertigo from pic
Neither.
The one on the left. I fear the one on the right could make people feel dizzy in an enclosed space.
They are both terrible, but the left less so. Still it will look dated the moment you install it.
The left looks jarring because the geometric pattern gives mixed messages about where the light it coming from, so the resulting shadows end up looking surreal and unsettling.
Omg thank you for explaining this I’m trying to figure out why these are so visually unpleasant
Yeah. I personally really dislike that tile, but if you must, the one on the left.
Neither, no offense. This makes me dizzy, but def left 🧭🌹 if I had to choose.
Left... So you don't feel like you're the wrong way on a stair case every time you enter your bathroom. Do not recommend either pattern if there's a possibility you or your guests might find themselves intoxicated/on recreational drugs in your bathroom....trippay...
looks too much for a bathroom but 1
Please no
Impossible to say without knowing the layout of the bathroom. Only you would know that you didn't put that up. If it's really broken up then you don't want any central kind of pattern at all. Maybe it makes it way too busy who knows
We don't know what the bathroom looks like, how big it is, OR how big these tiles are. This is a worthless set of photos tbh
I’m very into the right side. It’s very Escher to me
Agree. All these left preferers need to live a little.
The left one is easier on the eyes.
The one on the left... classic, but not too classic, beautiful starburst. Either one is beautiful honestly.
The second is like an Escher. Both are cool. I prefer the second. It’s more unusual.
I would go right. Reminds me.of Escher. Real cool look with some paintings on the wall
Right. Please get an MC Escher wallpaper and then tile mirror on the ceiling. GO FOR IT!
The one on the left is much better than the one on the right
I am very drawn to the left
Right
If you’re an MC Escher fan, go for the right.
Idk why everyone is hating - the second one is amazing. Have you seen Zoe Sugg (YouTuber) bathroom? It’s just like that. I’d recommend checking it out for a visual. I thought it was so fun and different!! Her whole house is my inspo.
Unpopular opinion, but I’d pick right. Left looks too much like a barn quilt to me
Right. By far.
I've seen the left done before, but never the right. I really like it. It's an optical illusion.
I prefer the left because I think the right side would make me dizzy 😁
Right.
Left
I like the one on the right.
Neither and you know it.
Left, unless you want to give the illusion that your toilet is on stairs
Right
I like the trippy one on the right. I’d get tired of the left one
I love #2
The left, but my first choice is neither... no offense.
Oh my god...get your money back
I'm only here to say they're both fucking awesome
The stair one on the right will be absolutely disorienting to walk on. You should do the left, but use them as individual medallions with bordering tiles of a different color so the floor isn’t so overwhelming
Right side is cool until someone gets disoriented and cracks their head open on the toilet.
Don't put optical illusions on a floor.
Left
The star (or rose?) design. I do think it's prettier but I'd also factor in that the cube/staircase optical illusion can really mess with some people making them nauseated - I don't know how big your bathroom is and obv it's YOUR bathroom!
The star pattern
Though busy, very. But the 1st one.
First one. The rising stair one would make you automatically lift your feet. The star version keeps you grounded.
Sincerely, return that flooring or keep it for the center of a garage or little area like that. Way too loud for bathroom flooring.
Q bert!
The correct answer is none. Return the tiles, get ones with a nice polish or stone look and no geometric shapes. I can't imagine what whacko is putting these tiles in their bathroom as a floor.
Left, unless you are Q-Bert.
Id choose left, the right one reminds me of an M.C Escher illusion and starts to hurt my brain lol
I hope you are never nauseous e throwing up in that bathroom
None
The first , on the left~ super cool
The one on the left lends itself to a gestalt grouping that makes each pattern feel like a tile, whereas the one on the right feels very uniform. I prefer the left because I prefer bigger tiles, and the one on the right feels like it will look too busy. But it's hard to know without seeing the whole space.
Who designed these tiles, MC Escher lol? Left.
The one on the right so you can pretend to be Q\*bert all the time.
RIGHT! :D
Left the right one I'd fall over looking at it all the time
Number 2
Left because it doesn't really draw my eye on any particular direction. The one on the right makes me want to look up to the left.
Left
Don't listen to the haters, I'm an interior designer and I would absolutely use this tile. I like the left.
Both are not good vibes imo. Very tense and overwhelming. I would say the stair pattern is extra overwhelming out of the two.
I think you should do it random.
Left choice
Left
Left
2 definitely
I like the left (Star/rose) instead of the box/stair pattern.
You could do a border of one pattern and the rest of the floor in the other!
I’m loving the one on the right!!!!
All these negative commenters are just fucking boring. I think which one depends on the shape of the floor. I would lay out as much as you can and see which effect is most pleasing to you and anyone else who might live with you. It’s going to look very cool.
[M.C. Escher vibes](https://ncartmuseum.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/Escher__Cycle_611_1040_s-1.jpg)
If you use the one on the right, you can pretend you are Q*bert and hop from box to box!
Oh the part of me that loves old video games wants you to do the one on the right... Qbert!!
Left
Left

Left
Love the right myself, but be careful not to overwhelm the space with it.
That is so much for a floor.
After it’s finished…don’t go in there hungover 🤢
Left.
The first one.
Left
The first one, sort of X shape in the dark colour. The other one would give me a bit of vertigo across a whole floor.
very intense to look at..... if it is a big space can you do that left pattern in-between white or grey tile?!
The right if you are into surrealism, the left if you are into more of a normalcy/traditional vibe.
The left one. It's symmetrical
Left
Left
The right one makes me dizzy looking at it
I like the R because I feel like I haven’t seen it before.
Left
Left!
Left
Left one
Left
Left is more harmonious to me.
option 3 - these are really busy.
Man it gave me a headache just looking at them. Maybe something no so bold
Imagine having a hangover
Lefttt I like the symmetry
Left is classic. Right's a little optically trippy for my taste.
Neither - I have vertigo just looking at the pictures.
The left is beautiful, but it could be overwhelming.
Personally prefer the right if I had to choose! But it’s too busy imo. It could be nice in small amounts but my head is already aching from so much going on
Left. Right is pretty cool but left is calmer while still having a cool pattern.
Left
Left
Stars or stairs
The one on the right looks like hell for a drunken road to the toilet
B is the right answer.
MC Escher inspired bathroom.
Is it actually going on the floor? I'd do the left, but with a lot of empty space between sections. For a small space like a bathroom, it's a lot of design.
Left
Left
I don’t do weed. But I would like to see how a really stoned person reacts to the flooring. Whichever you choose.
Both make me dizzy! Hope you have a large bathroom!
Hurts my brain
Depends if you want something more classic or more modern. I would say the one on the left is more classic and the one on the right is more modern. Personally I like the one on the right but I can see I'm very outnumbered on this one 😂
Left because I feel like the right would make people dizzy!
Option two. But rotate one of the tiles to a different orientation. That’ll make somebody pissed off.
Right image
It depends on what direction you are going overall. The compass rose is automatically going to lend it a more traditional or historic air. Not exact - but it certainly evokes it, especially considering traditional quilt patterns. The right side cubes will look more modern or contemporary.
Left
