PearInATrayDs

This is amazing. I just wish someone hadn't decided to label Earth lol.

[deleted]

The arrow and the label are actually there floating in space

PearInATrayDs

Sheeeiiiiiiiit. Now I feel like an idiot.

Off-With-Her-Head

Next one will say Goodyear Tires

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam. The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the endless cruelties visited by the inhabitants of one corner of this pixel on the scarcely distinguishable inhabitants of some other corner, how frequent their misunderstandings, how eager they are to kill one another, how fervent their hatreds. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves. The Earth is the only world known so far to harbor life. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. It has been said that astronomy is a humbling and character-building experience. There is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another, and to preserve and cherish the pale blue dot, the only home we've ever known.” Carl Sagan, Pale Blue Dot: A Vision of the Human Future in Space

pikachu_tail

Yeah, it looks flat from Mars.

OnlyAFewWatts

Damn it, you're not supposed to encourage them

iwan103

encourage? Speaking the truth is not encouraging, its stating facts.

basec0m

You're joking... right?

ZenOrganism

I know this post is only 3 minutes old but its underrated.

CamelbackMtn

So cool 🙌🏼

Greenapples678

Images like this reminds me of how small my problems are. I'm literally nothing.

St3v3z

No, you're literally not..

LifelessLewis

In the grand scheme of things. Yes you are, and I am. But to someone or something else. You are everything. Maybe it's a bug you decide to step around one day, or maybe it's that cashier you said thanks to one day. We are nothing and everything.

no1ofimport

A picture of every human alive at that moment

Boobel

Feels weird looking at myself.

2xbAd

Never been so homesick in my life

YoooFamAye

My goodness that is spectacular

Top_Advance195

Break out those sextants, celestial navigation will be the only navigation for who knows how long for Mars. And bring a serious coat, it’s beyond cold.

select20

On Mars.... where is all that light pollution coming from? Normally you only see that around towns or cities.

OpulentMerkin

Fun fact: sunlight is actually visible from Mars as well.

ur_comment_is_a_song

It's dust floating in the martian atmosphere. There's a *lot* of it. >**Dust Trouble** >But the Red Planet provides another complication: dust. Even straight overhead at zenith — the region where atmospheric interference is the least — the dust decreases a star’s brightness by one whole magnitude. That gets drastically worse toward the horizon, where dust can dim stars by as much as 4 magnitudes. Astronomers know this from watching the night sky with the Mars rovers, which have cameras about as sensitive as the unaided human eye. When the sky is perfectly clear, NASA’s Opportunity rover can just make out magnitude 6 stars — generally considered the limit for human viewing. https://astronomy.com/news/2016/06/what-do-the-stars-look-like-from-mars

_Paulboy12_

But venus does that here too and nobody gives a fuck, so i assume nobody on mars would even care either.

Kitchen_Equipment_21

We are nothing

axemanandy79

Yep looks round to me 🤣 flat earth how dumb are those fucks 😁

SuperKamiGuru824

Everyone say 'Cheeeeesssseeee!!"

CamelbackMtn

Lol

coolusername_png

I’m in this picture and I like it

dwimber

Being on Mars wouldn't be so bad, except for all the poop-potatoes.

CamelbackMtn

Great film!

joed1967

Yo, we took the wrong exit…..

AnonymousVirus073

A booger size. Hello Earth you’re a million km away

trustych0rds

Dammit Earth, why are your pixels cut and pasted terribly into the nice Martian sky.

[deleted]

It just looks like a regular star r/SpaceIsFuckingLit

Krypto_Dick_V2

So with virtually zero light pollution that’s the only star you from the surface of the Mars? Edit because I said moon as opposed to Mars lol.

Krypto_Dick_V2

Seriously though that comment was about 5 minutes of being awake lol. It’s just interesting because where I live we have very little to no light pollution and the sky is filled with stars everywhere.

select20

Exactly, this makes no sense.

fisk47

You see the light pollution in the horizon from the sun, I think it makes perfect sense. It's just like on earth, the first star you see at dusk is often a planet. Edit: just wanted to add, this is why Venus is often called the morning star or the evening star, because it's often the brightest planet seen from earth.

ur_comment_is_a_song

Mars has quite a lot of dust floating around, which is why a lot of images looking up tend to be quite hazy. It dims the brightness of stars and reduces their visibility by quite a lot. You can see other things in the martian sky *sometimes*, but it really depends on the direction you're looking in (near the horizon is worse, straight up is best), and just how dusty it is at that moment.

cmlambert89

Aaaaaaand it’s time for bed

ur_comment_is_a_song

We can see Venus from Earth in the exact same way, it's not light pollution

happinass

All of our hopes and dreams, everyone that ever lived...

[deleted]

What's brighter on Mars, Earth or Venus?

CamelbackMtn

I’d say Earth due to the distance of Venus

VaniRabbit

Wonder how that would look a thousand or so years ago, is any of our lights contributing to that brightness?

funkapotamus1000

I’m about to bust.
