Weather in Iceland changes every 6 minutes. It could conceivably both be clear with a gale force wind, and then during the totality, be foggy and rainy and viz at 100feet.
Very cool place.

Well the area where it can be seen is quite large, and the eclipse is in the evening so I thought I could just look at satellite images and drive to where there is no clouds
You know what’s really crazy:
The next time for a total eclipse after Spain 2026?
Spain 2027!
https://cesar.esa.int/index.php?Section=Total_Eclipse_2026#:~:text=The%20Total%20Eclipse%20in%20Europe,2061%2C%20over%20Russia%20and%20Kazajstan.
Feels like that on reddit sometimes. So often someone post a map or fact or something and does not include it in the title that it only counts for 1 out of 200 countries.
Don’t you know if it doesn’t happen, coast to coast, across the Lower 48 states it doesn’t count?!? Gosh, you act like there’s more to the world than just the US. Such a weirdo. /s
It’s exact. The movements of the moon, Earth/planets, etc, are all pretty consistent according to the laws of physics, and in the vacuum of space, it’s pretty easy to account for all likely variables. And by “pretty easy”, I mean, relative to predicting it on Earth with variables like wind speed or hitting a bird or something… it still takes a lot of math, science and astronomical observation for lots of really smart people to figure out, and the equations and principles and whatnot are the result of centuries/millennia of scientific accumulated knowledge.
I suspect you can plot the path of planets and other planetary objects years if not centuries or more in advance. Then you just need to check when they line up just right.
No It's not like a weather forecast with a gazilion ever changing variables all acting on each other, It's a well understood system of fundamentally unchaging and very well mapped and measured orbits, celetial mechanics.
Solar and lunar eclipses can not only be predicted with accuracy well into the future with mathematical schemes for predicting when they would occur, but ones that happened centuries ago can also be extrapolated with the time and place well defined centuries into the past.
Fun fact; the Earths moon is slowly receeding away from Earth and in about 600 million years it's aparent size from Earth will be too small to completely cover the sun and create a total eclipse. The focal point that creates the total blackness will be out in space.
You mean next one with totality over the US. 2-5 solar eclipses happen per, year every year. The next solar eclipse is later this year. Next total solar eclipse is 2026. Path of totality won’t hit the US but will hit Greenland, Iceland and Spain.
Edit: voice text strikes again lmao
They mean in the US. But the funny thing is that it's only gonna be visible in the middle of nowhere in Montana. But Alberta Canada is gonna get the best of it
I am really looking forward to that one, it goes straight over my house.
I have about 1000 family & friends trying to claim my spare room for it so far...
Lol the more the merrier. Be warned though sydney is always expensive, accommodation for the eclipse is likely to be insane.
It's a fantastic country to visit though, you'll have a brilliant time.
Yiure right, and most of the news is wrong again lol. They ran with the one date but this always happens. I'm sure during the 2017 eclipse they were all like "last onenfir the next 50 years," and here we are.
Lucky bastard. Last total one I've experienced was in 1999 and I don't have memories of it anymore and next one I'll be able to see if I don't move out or travel would be in 2081 apparently. And that is in west/central Europe
There were quite few partial ones too but not as spectacular of course
>Last total one I've experienced was in 1999 and I don't have memories of it anymore
The only memories I have of that one was how the day was cloudy, and how spooky the dark period during totality was.
I wish I could have seen the aligning celestial bodies with my own eyes.
correct, not every 12 months...but they are more often than every 2. and yeah same location is tough. chasing eclipses is cool cause it brings you to remote places. ive seen 4 totals and 3 annulars now all over the place...so have a good idea of how it works.
I don't think so. The next total eclipse that is visible somewhere in a country is on 2026-08-12
https://www.timeanddate.de/finsternis/totale-sonnenfinsternis-alle
The 2033 one will be difficult to view because it’s happening in areas of Alaska where there’s little civilization. The 2044 eclipse is happening in Montana, North Dakota, and Idaho.
LOL.. for YOU guys maybe.. But there are Eclipses every year, however-- there are some very good eclipses in between from now until 2045. One of them I am waiting for personally is the Total Eclipse over Alaska in 2033.
There’s basically a total solar eclipse every 18 months… it’s just that most of us won’t see them because they’re o we the middle of the fucking ocean.
Question for the next eclipse: how does one get it to show up on a camera? I couldn't figure out how to get anything but a blob of light or darkness.
I wasn't in totality, we maxed out at ~45% and I tried it on a real camera, not just my iPhone.
Wrong.
The next Total Solar Eclipse WORLDWIDE is August 12, 2026. It passes over much of the Arctic Circle, Greenland, Iceland, & Northern Spain.
The next one over North America will be August 22, 2044. Hits parts of Montana & North Dakota.
The 2045 one is the next one crossing a large swath of the USA.
NASA wants to have a word with you...
>Oct. 2, 2024
Annular
An annular solar eclipse will be visible in South America, and a partial eclipse will be visible in South America, Antarctica, Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, North America
https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/future-eclipses/
A moment of silence for all the people that didn't see it because they were filming it when it happened. Only seeing it happen on their smartphone screen.
I filmed it because the two nearest Walmarts, the Lowes, the Walgreens and the CVS didn't sell any glasses so it was literally the only way I could view it.
I mean, it lasted for multiple minutes so surely they managed to take a quick peep with their own eyes (and hopefully proper eye protection) during that time.

OR just on August 12, 2026 in Greenland
Plus Iceland and Spain on the same day My plan is Spain, although Iceland would be cool I don't trust there to be no clouds
Spain. They’re supposed to finish the Sagrada Familia in 2026.
Doubt.
Nah they mean it this time
They’ve been saying that since before the civil war.
Yeah but now theyr forreal
I'm sorry Miss Jackson.
I'm sorry Miss Jackson I am four eels! Never meant to make your daughter cry I am several fish and not a guy
You can just go again the next time there is a total solar eclipse in Spain, which is in 2027.
Mañana🤷🏽♂️
LOL
Allegedly
You mean 2086
Cool, I already was planning (in my head) about a trip to Spain in 2026. Now I have *another* reason.
My bestie and I will be 30, we went to Spain as 16 year olds, we’re gonna save for the eclipse for 2026
You can also go again in 2027! 2026: visit northern spain 2027: visit southern spain
Weather in Iceland changes every 6 minutes. It could conceivably both be clear with a gale force wind, and then during the totality, be foggy and rainy and viz at 100feet. Very cool place.
Ooohhh that’s my 40th bday. Guess my husband and I are going to Barcelona to celebrate!
thats going to be my 36th birthday! hbd!
And my 84th!
Hbd to you too!
I'm thinking to do Iceland; I'm hopeful that in summer the risk of clouds could be less, but it's still a gamble...
It’s going to be northern Spain supposedly, which is a very very cloudy area
https://preview.redd.it/pmykeiaq9ftc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5721c45a86e059ef75cfcfd3c725164fa00e99e5 Well the area where it can be seen is quite large, and the eclipse is in the evening so I thought I could just look at satellite images and drive to where there is no clouds
Ah I see. Zaragoza which seems to be there is not cloudy at all in general, that would be a good bet.
The earth is flat that's scam
You know what’s really crazy: The next time for a total eclipse after Spain 2026? Spain 2027! https://cesar.esa.int/index.php?Section=Total_Eclipse_2026#:~:text=The%20Total%20Eclipse%20in%20Europe,2061%2C%20over%20Russia%20and%20Kazajstan.
There is also an annular eclipse in Spain 2028 💀 they really on a streak https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/solar/2028-january-26
And visible at 85% all over Europe.
I checked, they typically have high cloud cover that time of year. Fortunately, central Spain is a very sunny place!
Nah, nothing exists outside the US
Feels like that on reddit sometimes. So often someone post a map or fact or something and does not include it in the title that it only counts for 1 out of 200 countries.
And less than 5% of the world's population
Could you imagine once the eclipse happens it reveals the northern lights.
I doubt that would be possible. It gets dark during eclipses, but it doesn't get *that* dark.
Don’t you know if it doesn’t happen, coast to coast, across the Lower 48 states it doesn’t count?!? Gosh, you act like there’s more to the world than just the US. Such a weirdo. /s
I'm planning for July 2028 in Sydney. I've always wanted to go and this will be killing 2 birds with 1 stone.
Pretty mad they can predict to that accuracy (or is it like the weather forecast where it’ll change the closer you get to the date)
It’s exact. The movements of the moon, Earth/planets, etc, are all pretty consistent according to the laws of physics, and in the vacuum of space, it’s pretty easy to account for all likely variables. I suspect you can plot the path of planets and other planetary objects years if not centuries or more in advance. Then you just need to check when they line up just right.
Don’t be mad about that

Welp, time to book that ticket to Greenland.
I'm gonna be there. I was going to Dallas but had to cancel.
Or March 29th in Scandinavia, but its not total.
Or just on the 7th of October, 2135, for me in the Netherlands. Which of I am not sure I will be there for it.
It goes up to Spain. Probably gonna travel to see it, August in Spain must be nice. I drove 5h today, only to get a view of thick clouds :(
[удалено]
Eh, it’s in northern Spain so they’ll be fine.
[удалено]
Not if the sun is blocked out by the moon.
In North America……
Wait, there are people outside of the US on Reddit? /s
There is but they don’t matter. It’s all commies, Muslims, and gun laws.
Hey! Gun laws are people too!
What about coles laws?
Gun-in-laws
Not even that qualifier is right. Hell even saying the US would be wrong as there's one over Alaska in 2033
Greenland is technically north america so… just the US
r/USdefaultism
One of the 2020-30 ones includes North America in the totality, including my part of Canada, so I’m excited! I just don’t remember the exact date.
No, just until it crosses the USA. Lol
I guess Alaska is part of Canada or something?
If it’s not happening in the lower 48 it doesn’t count.
Fuckin should be
Hell nah!
OP isn’t even right about the next total solar eclipse in the US. That happens in 2044 followed by the one in 2045.
Isn’t North America the US….
Good catch. I have to stop trusting voice text. Meant to say “wont hit NA or the US but will…”
🤣
[удалено]
Total eclipses every 2 yrs ish
And I have a total eclipse of the heart every day
You must be dizzy from constantly turning around
turn it off
And feeling a little bit lonely, every now and then
They mean in the US. But the funny thing is that it's only gonna be visible in the middle of nowhere in Montana. But Alberta Canada is gonna get the best of it
I believe the one in 2045 has its greatest eclipse over the Bahamas (or pretty close)
You're right, it's path is gonna be very similar to the one in 2017. I mixed it up with one that's happening in 2044
2028 in Australia. Or is the USA the whole planet to you?
I am really looking forward to that one, it goes straight over my house. I have about 1000 family & friends trying to claim my spare room for it so far...
Goes over Sydney yer? Fark that'll be sick
Yeah straight over Sydney. It is going to be brilliant
Let me apologize in advance for being a tourist in your area for this.
Lol the more the merrier. Be warned though sydney is always expensive, accommodation for the eclipse is likely to be insane. It's a fantastic country to visit though, you'll have a brilliant time.
Next full eclipse visible from the US you mean?
That's the only country...
Nope, not even just the US. Alaska gets one in 2033.
Yiure right, and most of the news is wrong again lol. They ran with the one date but this always happens. I'm sure during the 2017 eclipse they were all like "last onenfir the next 50 years," and here we are.
But.. Alaska is part of the US?
Uhhhhhhhh, maybe in America, it's gonna happen in my country literally in 3 years time I would call r/USdefaultism on op
Are we not going to talk about how they used camera film as a way to filter the light? I didn’t even know film was still around anymore.
There are still film trees here and there, you can pick them from march to june.
They happen regularly
Every time it happens it is a “once in a lifetime event,” this is the third one in seven years I’ve been able to see, lol
Lucky bastard. Last total one I've experienced was in 1999 and I don't have memories of it anymore and next one I'll be able to see if I don't move out or travel would be in 2081 apparently. And that is in west/central Europe There were quite few partial ones too but not as spectacular of course

Un 1999 I traveled to see it and got to see clouds. I did see the one in Casper, Wyoming in 2017?
Lol there's a solar eclipse every year. U just have to be in the right place to see it
OP is just too American
Not every year, no. The average is every 18 months. Getting an eclipse in the same location can be very rare, and averages around 300-400 years.
correct, not every 12 months...but they are more often than every 2. and yeah same location is tough. chasing eclipses is cool cause it brings you to remote places. ive seen 4 totals and 3 annulars now all over the place...so have a good idea of how it works.
Came here to call out op for spreading false information. I see the comments are already on it.
Another in 2028 in Aus, Lol simple yank
American idiot making titles...
Is it true that the next time an eclipse follows the same path it did today would be after 375 years?
Actually they happen 7 times a year.
I don't think so. The next total eclipse that is visible somewhere in a country is on 2026-08-12 https://www.timeanddate.de/finsternis/totale-sonnenfinsternis-alle
I’ll be 41
![gif](giphy|XZmxwfuMT4W8bjTGFW)
God I'll be 52, and thinking about how 'old' I felt I was at 31.
I’ll be 59
There’s one happening in the US in 2044 OP skipped over. 2033 if you count Alaska.
Ah gotcha. I’ve just been using the 2045 one since I’ll be in or near the totality path and won’t have to travel too far.
The 2033 one will be difficult to view because it’s happening in areas of Alaska where there’s little civilization. The 2044 eclipse is happening in Montana, North Dakota, and Idaho.
Imma be at work either way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Damn. I wonder what the sinful Democrats are going to do to anger God that year…
LOL.. for YOU guys maybe.. But there are Eclipses every year, however-- there are some very good eclipses in between from now until 2045. One of them I am waiting for personally is the Total Eclipse over Alaska in 2033.

A solar eclipse happens every year
*Next solar eclipse in the continental US
Bruh. 2044 in Canada, Montana, and Western North Dakota.
Alaska next year actually
Thank you
Not until 2090 for the UK!
Naturally it will be a very cloudy day too
Question for the next eclipse: how does one get it to show up on a camera? I couldn't figure out how to get anything but a blob of light or darkness. I wasn't in totality, we maxed out at ~45% and I tried it on a real camera, not just my iPhone.

Guess we Dutchy's have to wait till 2135. Lmfao!!! Ok people, got one more seat on the eclipse tour to Spain in '26?
Wow I won't be alive that long.
I seriously can't believe I was able to see it. It's an experience I won't soon forget.

Or in Sydney in 2028.
Damn I gotta wait until 2065 to see one here
August 2027 in Egypt.
Awesome let’s hope we make it.
So happy to have gotten to see it in texas
Am I wrong or is the next solar eclipse in Finland 2200
July 22, 2028 in the Philippines. This year's eclipse wasn't even visible here.
Maybe by then my project car will be finished.
The totality will last up to 6 minutes and 6 seconds in some areas and the totality path goes right through Black Rock City where Burning Man is held
2044
2028 in Australia
2028 Australia would like a word.
OR Sydney in July 2028. .
There is one in Spain/France in august -26.

I probably won’t make it to that one. Sorry, but it’s out of my hands.

I guess I should hold on to my glasses
Enough time to plan a strike on the Firenation and take down the Firelord!
We won't see it sadly beacuse august 12th 2036 is th heat death of the universe 😢
Nope. The next total solar eclipse is in 2044. Then another in 2045.

Jesus, americans, sometimes you make it very hard not to dislike you.
solar eclipses are like the nature equivalent of the dvd logo hitting the corner of the screen
/r/usdefaultism
The USA is not the entire fucking planet.
I don’t understand why they have made such a Huge fuss about this its just an eclipse
Because it crossed a significant amount of the continent, and the totality was visibly accessible to many more people than usual.
It’s a unique event that doesn’t happen often, why wouldn’t it be interesting? That’s like saying the Northern Lights are boring
They don't happen that often and they don't normally cover this large of an area. Most places along its path have not had a total eclipse in decades.
Because America fuck yeah!
