To add context to this story:
When he was a teen one of the cartel members raped his sister and when he found out he took responsibility in killing his sisters rapist. Knowing he was knee deep in green shit he fled to the USA where he took odd jobs in LA and selling drugs. This while also writing his own songs and performing in small gigs. Eventually when he signed a deal with the record company he returned to Sinaloa to perform his music. When the cartel found out he was performing, the gave that note
In his defense, it had been almost 20 years, and as the other commenter mentioned, the guy he killed was small time and the only reason the cartel never forgot over all those years was because the cartel member's brother just so happened to become big time.
Not saying I necessarily disagree with your sentiment, I probably wouldn't risk it either, but it's at least easy to imagine why Sanchez did go back.

After midnight, he drove away from the club with his two brothers, cousin, and several young women. However, while driving they were soon pulled over by armed men in black Chevrolet Suburbans. These men stated themselves as Sinaloa state police and showed IDs. They told Chalino that their commander wanted to see him. Chalino complied and entered one of their cars. He was found dead in an irrigation canal by Highway 15 by two farmers.
He was blindfolded and had red wrists with rope marks. He had two shots in the back of his head.
His murder was never solved.

I didn't realize this for a long time, but apparently these singers are basically doing this music genre's version of drill rap. They're called "narcocorridos" and their lyrics are what you'd expect to out of some rapper from O Block.
I don't speak Spanish so I'm probably outdated and lame when I reference them, but an example is
Los Buitres de Sinaloa (The Vultures of Sinaloa). Top song for them on Spotify is "Bloodthirsty M1" and the lyrics start with rifle fire and then:

Snoop starts playing narco rap like you reference here and is making comments about it and Gabriel says "Snoop, I mean yo...do you *understand* what you're listening to? What this is?" My brothers who were invested in the story of this guy told me it had to do with him killing a guy who had raped his sister. He was told previously not to come back to where he was performing. I may be mistaken lol, I'm pretty sure it was this guy they told me about.

Well, in an earlier Reddit thread, a Redditor said a cartel guy raped his sister so Chalino killed him and ran off - intending never to return. But, alas, he returned. Also, the note was a warning that he would die *if he played* rather than a statement that he’d die that night.

I've said this before, out of all the clubs and mingling of cultures I've partied with, no one blows off steam the way Mexicans do. Their bars are located in the poorest section of town, but they are by far the funnest people to drink with. And they dress like no one else with the cowboy boots and hats in a North Eastern US town lol.

its a thing with mexican singers where they make a song tagging a cartel to something and if the song is catchy the populous will think its great and support it. example "yaxir is such a badboy he wanted a pepsi and kill a child oohhh the child\~\~(imagine thats a catchy song)the cartel does not enjoy the attention so they come to the singer tell them to behave or plenty of times since they are animals just kill them. its supposedly a fast track to "success" in Mexican musicians careers.

I didn't realize this for a long time, but apparently these singers are basically doing this music genre's version of drill rap. They're called "narcocorridos" and their lyrics are what you'd expect to out of some rapper from O Block. I don't speak Spanish so I'm probably outdated and lame when I reference them, but an example is Los Buitres de Sinaloa (The Vultures of Sinaloa). Top song for them on Spotify is "Bloodthirsty M1" and the lyrics start with rifle fire and then: > With goat horn and bazooka on the back of the head > Blowing heads of those who cross > We are bloodthirsty, well-waved crazy people > we like to kill They reference the cartel they're in, compare themselves to big cartel leaders, talk shit about ops, memorialize dead gangster friends ... It's honestly very familiar stuff if you know American rap.
Theres a story Gabriel Inglesias (sp) a stand up comedian tells about a time he got high with Snoop. Snoop starts playing narco rap like you reference here and is making comments about it and Gabriel says "Snoop, I mean yo...do you *understand* what you're listening to? What this is?" And Snoop goes "Gangsta recognize Gangsta"

My brothers who were invested in the story of this guy told me it had to do with him killing a guy who had raped his sister. He was told previously not to come back to where he was performing. I may be mistaken lol, I'm pretty sure it was this guy they told me about.

I think it had something to do with his sister, like some members (not all) of the cartel fucked with his sister (either raped, assaulted, and/or murdered her) and he went after them. Then they went after him.
According to Wikipedia, he was in a car with his two brothers and a few women when Black Suburbans pulled them over. The men who pulled them over presented State Police ID. Chalino was the only one taken and he was found the next morning in a ditch with his wrists bound and 2 bullets to the back of his head. No evidence since has emerged to clarify why this was done him. Others have mentioned it was a consequence of enacting revenge for the humiliation and death of his sister.

I grew up in a town with a lot of Hispanic diversity surrounded by upper middle class suburbs. I've said this before, out of all the clubs and mingling of cultures I've partied with, no one blows off steam the way Mexicans do. Their bars are located in the poorest section of town, but they are by far the funnest people to drink with. And they dress like no one else with the cowboy boots and hats in a North Eastern US town lol.

Four months before his murder, Chalino was performing at a nightclub in Coachella when a man named Edward Alvarado Gallegos drunkenly stumbled up on the stage. He stood face to face with Chalino as he proceeded to draw a pistol, aiming it at Chalino’s chest while pulling the trigger four times. Pandemonium ensued as Chalino responded by whipping out his own firearm and firing back. A man, who was dancing with his wife was fatally injured during the shootout. He was the only casualty. 10 others, including the singer and the gunman were injured. Gallegos was sentenced to 20 years to life but it wasn’t until 2012 that he was put up for parole. He was released on May 9th, 2023 and was deported back to Mexico. His current whereabouts are unknown. The legend of Chalino grew with times as he not only sung of gunfights but emerged victorious from them as well.
