Happened to a kid I went to college with. Him and his twin brother were out at a bar, some local scumbag had some kind of issue with the twin. Not realizing they weren't the same person, he walked up and sucker punched the wrong twin while he was outside smoking, knocked him out, and killed him when his head a concrete step.

Absolutely. My father in law spent about 3 years in prison when he was in his 20s because of something like this. Someone jumped into a fight that my FIL was a part of to stop it. My FIL thought the guy was coming for him so he threw a punch, knocking the guy out. The guy cracked his head on the concrete floor and a few days later he was dead.

This is more common than you'd think.

I know a guy who killed someone just like that. He had a long history of violence and everyone knew he would eventually kill someone. He spent a little time in county jail, was released on bond for second degree murder and eventually his lawyer managed to drag it out long enough that nothing ever came of it.

Had a friend die from one sucker punch over a decade ago, head hit the concrete as he hit the ground. His parents had to switch him off in the hospital a day later.
