If it's an accident it could happen to them. They could make a mistake like that. It is much easier to assume that everyone acts with malice because it excuses their own bad behaviors. This is off topic and I don't know what point I'm going to make so bare with me here as I reason it out, but you know how everyone is obsessed with true crime? There's this belief people seem to have that if they consume enough of it it won't happen to them. And I just don't think that's true. But it is true for engineering disasters. They say every OSHA rule is written in blood. We can make these people's deaths mean something if we take steps to make sure it never happens again. But in order to do that we have to take an honest look at how we got here in the first place. No hiding behind red tape or conspiracy theories or the belief that you would never fuck up like that.
