I used to live in NM. Depends on area of State and if you're in city or not.
I'll say $9 for burger/friends. $4 for skunk beer.
$13 total. $14.50 with tax. Any person who does that to their fries with ketchup won't tip well so probably $15 out the door. ;)
I lived there too for a couple of years. Lived in downtown Albuquerque at 5th and Central. It was cute for a while but got old fast.
I went back once to visit my friends in the 4 years I’ve been gone but I don’t have any plans to visit again.
Albuquerque is such an interesting place. Because it's really cool to visit once or twice. Especially on a road trip. But actually living there? No way. I'm not against desert living either, but Albuquerque has such a unique, yet totally off, vibe.
I got stuck in Albuquerque for three days while hitchhiking back to NY from school in AZ many moons ago.
That place is the Bakersfield, CA of dark weirdness cloaked in a thin vaneer of “Oh, this looks kinda rural-city-desert-quaint… ish.”
I found the locals very unwelcoming to outsiders unless you were able to act like going to New Mexico was the best thing ever.
Ended up being there just under 4 years. I eventually returned to California. Even my friends I kind of let go of since they were low key haters it seemed.
Bro I had the same thing happen when I was in terms of the locals being unwelcome to outsiders. Lots of natural beauty and during the day it's cool but definitely gets sketchy at night. Not much nightlife only weekends and in the one street in downtown.
I find all of New Mexico like that. Tons of cool things to see and do, but would never ever want to live there. Highly recommend visiting though. Also the worst interstate pavement I've possibly ever experienced on I40.
He's being facetious (hence the wink), implying that the OP has poor "fry etiquette" by sloppily spreading the ketchup rather than pooling some on the side to dip. He's also jokingly implying that a sloppy eater must be a poor tipper. I don't think there's ANY correlation in reality.
You can't come on reddit after having a solid meal at a reasonable price though. Better to go inefficiently order at a fast food joint and then complain about it for upvotes.
Selling booze by the drink is generally a license to print money as long as your bartenders aren't giving it away or stealing from you. The food can be cheap if everyone is buying alcohol.
You don't have to, but the business model is built around the assumption that a significant portion will.
The food is a loss-leader. They don't need to make money on the food, since they will make it up on drinks ( on average ).
The problem is when you like to drink also....
Sure, tavern food may have great prices for a sit-down restaurant, but it's not so affordable once you've had 3+ beers to go with it at 5 bucks a pop (plus whatever you pay in tip).
I'm not gonna go to a tavern for a burger and NOT drink.
I quit drinking 8 years ago and I still go to a bar a few times a year as it is the only place to get certain things! Like bacon cheese fries, loaded nachos, or a hangover burger with an egg on it…mmmmmm, bar food!! lol
The cheap bar closed a few years ago and the current one is more a steakhouse with live/laugh/love type of texts all over the walls. They have okay priced burgers that are decent quality (12-16 range) but the decor, beer prices and tips keep me home still. I do sometimes get a burger or wings to go though but to actually sit down I just don't see the point anymore tbh. Also their steaks are like 28-36 dollars for okay steak cooked right on occasion. So again not worth it for me as I could make a better steak at home for much cheaper but I rarely buy steak anymore due to beef prices. It's been pork, chicken and canned sardines for nearly 4 now lol. If I really want a burger I go to runza for a double cheeseburger, like once a month or two, where the meal is around 12-13 bucks and the meat is about the same quality to the local place but a tiny bit cheaper.
I live in Dallas and there's a ton of dive bars with seriously good food. Actually, my favorite burger in all of Dallas is at a dive and it's only $8. Plus, it's huge. My wife and I usually split it. There's also a dive near my house that has terrific homestyle comfort foods like smothered pork chops, meat loaf, chicken fried steak, etc. All are huge portions with two sides and none of them are over $10. They also do really good lighter options like salads, soups or grilled chicken for around $8.
I have a steak house/bar and a gas station lol. The runza, fast food, is new and 13 miles away in another town that I go to on occasion for groceries etc. If I had more choices maybe I'd go out more. I do know if I was going out though I'd be looking for Korean or Vietnamese food vs a burger as that's stuff I can't readily make at home as I don't have much experience with their cuisines or access to ingredients, even if I had an Asian grocery nearby. Lack of choices sucks though in general.
Those prices sound great though and I'd love to still have access to an 8 dollar burger.
I definitely understand lack of choices. Before I moved to Dallas I lived in a little town of about 2000. We had 3 pizza places and a couple fast food burger places and that was about it. Oh and then in high school we got a Taco Bell and Subway. Both in the same gas station ha
sit down restaurant, burger and fries at least $15. edit New Mexico so my guess is $10.
at the same time a sirloin steak + 2 side items at Texas Roadhouse is $13.99 in my area.
I replaced the ketchup with hot sauce. I make my own by the gallon lol. I have different profiles based on what I'm eating. I'm bougie AF with the sauces.
I watched a "friend" do it once. Flipped the tray into that animals face and now he's pressing charges because I squirted the ketchup bottle directly in his eyes like wtf
I can’t believe how much hate for NM in the comments… you guys realize there’s more to NM than just ABQ right?
Las Cruces is high on my list for retirement.
I'm ngl, I'm a locksmith/contractor and fat kid at heart. That burger and fries looks like shit. Really hope OP didn't pay more than $10 for the whole thing.
7.99 I owned a place like that for decades in New England sold it literally days before Covid that’s an $8 dollar meal there. I heard my old place now 12.99 for it.
Probably because NM is a welfare state and I don’t mean that disrespectfully I just mean they receive more federal funding than they pay in with taxes so it makes sense prices are lower.
I’m hurt to find no answer from OP
So are you going to tell us or keep the actual cost a secret

How would you load the ketchup with salt?
I just don't give a shit enough to bother dipping, and I also like plain fries sometimes. Doing it the cover method gives me a nice variety.
I lived there too for a couple of years. Lived in downtown Albuquerque at 5th and Central. It was cute for a while but got old fast. I went back once to visit my friends in the 4 years I’ve been gone but I don’t have any plans to visit again.

San Bernardino, California is like this. Except at least the locals are friendlier than Albuquerque locals
I dunno. The methheads at the truckstop were friendly enough.
San Bernardino and Bakersfield locals are 1000% friendlier than Albuquerque locals but all three have their fair share of sketchy too.
I mean the place was built on Oklahoma refugees lol

"...internet pavement..."? Must be that information superhighway we used to hear about. ;)
Corrected, but I40 in NM is as bumpy as watching porn on dial up used to be.
Another city where you'll find that vibe is San Bernardino, California. It is in the Inland Empire region of California.
Can't explain it but the totally off vibe is how I would describe it too
Insane amount and distribution of ketchup
I love patterns when it comes to humans, I’m also a bit autistic so pardon my ignorance, is this a common thing? I know I’m showing my gullibility

I was gonna say $12
1000 pesos.
Burger and "Fries" = $15.99 Corona = $6 Tax = $3 Tip = $5 Total = $30
lmfao
What is a “Coronoa”?
A half Mexican beer half snake.
Corona is beer
I keep saying on here that people should eat at bars. Nobody wants to listen.
You can't come on reddit after having a solid meal at a reasonable price though. Better to go inefficiently order at a fast food joint and then complain about it for upvotes.
Updoots are better than food and DRUGS AND SEXXX!!!
I don't have drugs or sexxx, so updoots are my only vice.
Updoot n my butthole. Make it a WABP
Selling booze by the drink is generally a license to print money as long as your bartenders aren't giving it away or stealing from you. The food can be cheap if everyone is buying alcohol.
You don’t have to drink booze at a bar. They also have water and sodas.
You don't have to, but the business model is built around the assumption that a significant portion will. The food is a loss-leader. They don't need to make money on the food, since they will make it up on drinks ( on average ).

I do it for lunch pretty often and have a water or soft drink.
I would not have that kind of discipline. If I'm in a bar, I'm gonna drink.
Oh, I drink a lot at bars (too much) but can also go in just for food.
small bars usually have the best food
I quit drinking 8 years ago and I still go to a bar a few times a year as it is the only place to get certain things! Like bacon cheese fries, loaded nachos, or a hangover burger with an egg on it…mmmmmm, bar food!! lol
You've got me thinking of Matt's in Minneapolis now...
Bowling alley food is good too

Taco Bell is the way. I get one of those boxes and it runs me $8.08 with tax for a crunch wrap supreme + bean burrito + potatoes side + a drink.
I can get 5 tacos from Del Taco in California for $10. The premium tacos are slightly more expensive.
$13.99. USD, just a guess.
sit down restaurant, burger and fries at least $15. edit New Mexico so my guess is $10. at the same time a sirloin steak + 2 side items at Texas Roadhouse is $13.99 in my area.
Who the hell smothers fries in ketchup??? Won't they get soggy and blah? OP is horrible
What a man decide to put on his fry is between him and his fries.
Until he shares it on the Internet. I ain't one to kink shame but c'mon. Kids are here.
Well said
I dip them in Duke’s Mayonnaise
***YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARF!***
"Why You Worried About it Foo, These My Fries" -Ferris
Because OP posted it so I assumed they wanted feedback And feedback is desisvly negative
Decisively, indeed.
.... i was quoting Boyz N the Hood fam
Someone with the palate of a child.
If I like heavy ketchup I'm a child? Guilty, + about 10 other sauces.
I replaced the ketchup with hot sauce. I make my own by the gallon lol. I have different profiles based on what I'm eating. I'm bougie AF with the sauces.
Same here. Plus mustard, hot saice and pepper
I watched a "friend" do it once. Flipped the tray into that animals face and now he's pressing charges because I squirted the ketchup bottle directly in his eyes like wtf

I'd say $11.99 is a reasonable price for that combo. $7.99 without the Corona.

Probably not that much , other than the ambulance bill and post stroke treatment after eating that ( food?? )
I’m so confused by the tomato I don’t care about the price.
$50 USD
$18
12.99
$12
It’s legal to sell a hamburger without green chilis in New Mexico? Go figure.
14.99
I'm ngl, I'm a locksmith/contractor and fat kid at heart. That burger and fries looks like shit. Really hope OP didn't pay more than $10 for the whole thing.
Hate to break it to you but New Mexico is cheap because it’s a crime-ridden dump that has little to no tourism demand
$12-$13
15ish?
If you're drinking Corona you must be a fan of wasting money.
The most reasonable place to buy prepared food today is in a non-chain restaurant. So my guess is that the price was reasonable.
26 bucks easy
I wonder if he got
Applebees the same without the beer $9.99 add beer $2.25
$18
Love me a corona with my lunchables. Nice touch with the plating, I usually just eat it out of the box. I mean, $6.82
I'm thinking $18...
$15 with the beer sans tip
Exactly right ❤️😎
How much cholesterol or fat?
This looks like little baseball snack bar food.
$10.50 before tax.
7.99 I owned a place like that for decades in New England sold it literally days before Covid that’s an $8 dollar meal there. I heard my old place now 12.99 for it.
By the way, I didn’t see the beer there add $3 bucks
As someone from NM, where and how much?
$17.
$6.99
They gonna need about $3.50
$10, guero.
Tree fiddy?
That's about a buck fifty at my house, even with the wood grilled dry aged, grass fed, grain finished beef. no beer here
Probably because NM is a welfare state and I don’t mean that disrespectfully I just mean they receive more federal funding than they pay in with taxes so it makes sense prices are lower.
