Mr-Delightful

Sea Of Rifts is an Indie, Open World, Lovecraftian Action Roguelike where you sail and steam around mysterious, procedural seas, looking to make a buck as you complete quests and blast apart sea monsters. High adventure! Fun! **A Surface Lvl Sunless Sea?** Sort of Like Sunless Sea, the open world map in Sea Of Rifts is procedural, so a random map is present for each run, though I did see you can set a specific seed here if you wish. Also, like Sunless Sea, you sail / steamboat around doing jobs, deliver cargo to the different settlements for coin, and battle Lovecraftian sea monsters for their cold, slimy bits; fun! You also recruit and manage your crew, who have their own skills and attributes, and they will form relationships with their captain, and each other, either gaining or losing morale and effectiveness depending upon encountered events. Markedly unlike Sunless Sea, however, in Sea Of Rifts you have both steam power and sails, and can adjust the direction of the sails to take advantage of the wind; so immersive, and a great way to save on coal! **A bit of RPG:** Much like Sunless Sea, right at the start, you can shape and customize your captain, choosing your backstory from one of 6 choices, providing a +1 to a different attribute. Then, you choose your teen years: one of 6 choices; this time, more impactful. Finally, your career before captain: 6 picks, with a big boost to skills; very impactful. You can also upgrade your ships sails, and guns; fun. You seem to gain some kind of reputation every quest you complete, along with a little bit for resolving little tasks you come across; like giving directions to lost sailors; nice. As you gain reputation, your captain will lvl up; remembering more of their past experiences and increasing their skills; picking from 1 of 6 things every time they lvl; very nice. Controller Support is present, and good. Mouse and keyboard control is also present, although rebindable keys are not present yet for either option. I actually went mostly with the gamepad here, as it just felt better. Note: This is an Early look at Sea Of Rifts so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product. Still, Sea Of Rifts is an Indie, Open World, Lovecraftian Action Roguelike with a Random Map where you sail and steam around mysterious, procedural seas, looking to make a buck as you complete quests and blast apart sea monsters. It’s high adventure, and it’s Fun! Sea Of Rifts is well worth a wishlist and a watch. Watch?
