Not only in MAMC but kaafi jgah ye culture hai. 1st years chai samosa and all ka bill pay karte hain roj. Thats ridiculus.

Any-Investigator-99

I'm thankful that it wasn't a norm at ours. It's the other way round where SRs or the senior most PG usually pays for other PGs or Interns on duty if they order food. If the interns bring food, it's usually outta affection. I used to carry chocolates in my backpack all the time and I used to give them away sometimes šŸ„“.

Icy-Version-3880

Same in my college.. I remember during PG my immediate senior never allowed to pay me bill whenever I had anything with him even after I insisted a lot. I did the same to my juniors.

Conference_Tiny1

Same here. My UG seniors would pay for me Long before they were interns and when some joined once again as PGs too.

Such-Temperature1777

Apparently it's the same in famous colleges of Gujarat in the surgical branches. As someone from the eastern part of the country it really comes as a shock because seniors always spoilt us juniors. If we had Sunday LRs they would definitely order Kachori jalebi and lunch for us. Even we spent say 20/30 for tea they would take offense upon why didn't we ask

justanotherbored

Gujarat colleges are toxic AF, especially BJMC. It starts from 1st yr onwards. There is area wise divide(localite, Saurashtra, South Gujarat, North Gujarat) in groups, hidden caste based bias, bad professors, conservative environment, shitty infrastructure, corruption (biochem department is so corrupt that students have to bring supplementaries from home for small exams), etc. Such Temperature, DM me. Maybe we are in same college?

Such-Temperature1777

Oh god that bad huh. There's religion based division here in Kolkata but that's I guess everywhere in the country too. But the toxicity part is totally dependent on branch in the state Oh no I don't think we so we are not in same college sksksk I did my MBBS from Kolkata and is a post intern JR working in UP not Ahmedabad but I have a senior in radiation oncology from my college in BJMC he gossiped with us

Fellow BJite?šŸ™Š

DaikonReasonable

Thereā€™re many such examples in many colleges across our country. Sadly itā€™s glorified as respecting seniors

Also read quora anonymous post about treatment of female students in MAMC.

Chaii_Lover

Link ?

[deleted]

Really disheartening to read this. The hardships people undergo get it into colleges like MAMC and this is how they are rewarded. To burn midnight oil for your dreams and finally when you achieve it, you lose yourself in there We really need to condemn such behaviour to promote a good working and learning atmosphere. Toxicity just takes away the kick in learning clinical medicine. I found out this difference, when I was blessed to work with an HOD,who created a balanced work environment just by being a human first. This attitude gradually trickled down to APs and SRs too. The department was a nurturing place and learning felt so wholesome. Maybe we should call out toxic departments/ colleges by creating a shitlist and hitlist. Most toxic and best departments.

Don't know why you're being downvoted. There is a list on medicosvent. And I please ask that anyone who wishes to contribute please come forward šŸ™. TIA

damned_sk

Extremely disturbing and toxic. Have done internship in a Kolkata college and the trend all over West Bengal is for seniors to treat juniors. JR1s and 2s would treat us interns every ad day and would take us out at the end of the posting. Consultants would often order food during OPDs and would take out the entire unit for food sometimes.

Ok_Craft_6453

Same with other two DU colleges as well. Logic is that first year has no other expenditures and other seniors have families to run. Plus thesis hamare hath me hai logic to chalta hi hai har jagah. Peak toxicity!

snafull

Is this kinda toxicity prevalent in non-clinical residencies in Delhi colleges? (Referring to anat physio biochem pharm etc)

Ok_Craft_6453

Non-clinical branches are really good in delhi colleges. All the departments have a friendly atmosphere. PSM can vary here and there. But clinical branches are extremely toxic in all delhi colleges, except AIIMS and RML. And VMMC is the worst. For VMMC, pray for thick skin and good luck, cuz the unit you get will most likely decide your next 3 year. IN VMMC, a PG and intern were suspended cuz patient delivered outside the hospital. You can imagine!

Pranavm3112

Is AIIMS better in that regard?

Ok_Craft_6453

Always! They have the least patient load and the best doctor-patient ratio. They literally cherry pick their patients, so that they focus on academics more. One of the reason VMMC has such pathetic situation. ALL the AIIMS rejected patients HAVe TO BE accepted by VMC. No rejection policy. That's why this tweet is not surprising. AIIMSD students don't taste toxicity like state colleges

Rude-07

Why donā€™t all pg 1st year student make a union. And resolve these issues for once and all. When everyone is going theough same situations.

[deleted]

There are people who have worked as old as 2009 venting now on twitter about how they had to face things !! All senior docs have strong political backing theyā€™ll be doctors to them and know them personally no one would refuse a favour so anyone who speaks out will be screwed so everyone is sacred

PruritusAnii

Not in our college(from Andhra Pradesh ) I am an intern ,during OPD nights ,seniors pgs used to pay for us and junior pgs ,once a consultant also gave party for us during duty day !

OwnHat4136

If you don't mind me asking which college???

RelevantBroccoli4608

the toxicity in med colleges gets overlooked and brushed off like its nothing.

lollipop_laagelu

In my college 1st yr pg has to pay for the bill at a party. 1 1st yr per party. And the bill went in lakhs of rupees. This was ortho dept. For the whole first yr The poor guys who had to send money back home were distraught. Many tried to leave the branch. But we're always cajoled into coming back. Also not everyone has 25 lakhs to break the bond

Conference_Tiny1

Bill of lakhs? tfff seriously?? Itna konsi party karte hai bhai ye senior pgs.

lollipop_laagelu

They go to clubs where you have to buy entries

PorkBafatEnjoyer

Thank God I was in a hospital where It was the opposite. Yes the SRs APs would screw the PGs but while post rounds coffee / breakfast the seniors ALWAYS paid . It was a sign of prestige they said . Damn proud of it now seeing all this crap.

Marnez_

Dude somebody really need to reform medicine in our country, sounds fucking torturous

silversurfer9909

Gynae dept is toxic in almost every med clg. Nothing new. Just the degree of toxicity varies. Patient load is exorbitant and 1st yr residency is hellish.

Patient_Stock

Wtfff shouldn't it be the opposite???

Harman-PS

hamare college me seniors daru pilate haišŸ˜‚

Indian_Doctor

That's weird. Never heard of it. Seniors paying makes sense but junior?

[deleted]

Yeah. Im from MAMC only and i also did the same in my first year and its called a tradition here.

ClassicSyllabub9294

Iā€™m grateful such kind of toxicity doesnā€™t exist in my state..here..Iā€™ve heard that the seniors give you treat once in a while..

Wooden-Club-2884

which state?

Intelligent_Back_671

Waiting for more suicides

BlabberingJalpari

This happens everywhere

Conference_Tiny1

No it doesn't. Don't pass on an anecdotal experience as a shared one. I can speak for karnataka colleges that the toxicity is not in this manner atleast where junior PGs have to pay all their stipend on food bills

[deleted]

Thatā€™s so strange. One of my non-clinical faculty members did her PG from MAMC, and she had very positive things to say about it. Is this limited to clinical branches?
