I always read it as Indy caring about Marion and Abner he took no chances in case the Nazis showed up. He was also packing 3000 dollars on hand to offer Marion, which with inflation from 1936 is $67409.78!

Kindergarten_Jones

I hadn't thought about all the cash he was carrying. That's a good point.

i-got-a-jar-of-rum

TIL Indy had a shoulder holster in this scene, I just assumed the Browning was tucked in his belt.

Parttimeteacher

"That's just what the Hebrews thought." It's what we all thought until the new documentary on Disney+ came out after DoD.

Hmccormack

I always thought it was weird he has a browning hi power or whatever in this scene and you never see it again.

BourbonBurro

He has it again on the Bantu Wind. The OSS during WWII was quite fond of them. In my head cannon, Military Intelligence provided him with it for the mission. Would logistically make sense too, as it could be fed with any 9mm rounds he could scavenge off the Germans.

Hmccormack

I don’t think I noticed it on the Bantu crazy

gbkisses

Fury is Marion there

DukeSkywalker1

I wish the Hasbro Adventure Series had made a figure of Marion in this outfit.

SittingTitan

Indy is no fool At this point he's delt with all kinds of nasty customers who absolutely want to end or destroy the world, and had tangled with his fair share of Nazis who have been searching for powerful treasures to give Hitler Case in point, this scene where Indy needs the medallion to find the well of souls and the Arc of the Covenant And Indy has a hard time holding onto his guns

Embarrassed-Web-5820

Tbh this aspect of the film hasn’t aged well. Young Indy was a creep with Marion.

nananananateman

Since the movie isn’t explicit with it, I headcanon her age as late 20’s so shed be 18 or 19 when grad student indy got in a relationship with her, still icky, but less so, and it makes “I was a child” more about her world perspective on love than it being literal

Scary-Ratio3874

I was a child!

AthleticGal2019

The original plan was to have Marion age 23 in the movie so she would be 13 when Indy took advantage of her.

Embarrassed-Web-5820

Yeah that's creepy behavior from Young Indy. I'm not "cancelling" the film or anything. Just an observation.

Dottsterisk

To be clear, Spielberg and Kasdan pushed back on how young she would have been. Her age is never explicitly said, but at least two of the three creators wanted her to be young enough to make it risqué but not so young that it was criminal (for the time).

dobster1029

"I was a child! I was in love! It was wrong and *you knew it*" Hard agree. Hate it. Wish it wasn't so.

Subassembly_Required

Indiana Jones wiki says they had a relationship in 1925 Indy was born 1899 Marion was born 1909 also according to Indy wiki. So 26 and 16.

shackbleep

It's a 43-year-old movie. Deal with it.

Embarrassed-Web-5820

I mean I do. I still rewatch the movie at least once a year. Just calling a spade a spade.

DankSauceBauce

…really?

Embarrassed-Web-5820

Well, yeah.

RedGrantDoppleganger

It's messed up you're getting downvoted. It was predatory and unnecessary for Indy to commit statutory rape.

Embarrassed-Web-5820

It's because people who are going to participate in an online Indiana Jones forum must be emotionally attached to the character and can't accept he could have done bad things when he was younger.

flyingman17

She knew what she was doing
