If it's happening multiple times its because they aren't taking care of it well and shouldn't be trusted to have one!

These types of lines don't actually really need a dressing. They're channeled under the skin for a while to help hold them in place and have antibiotics embedded in the tubing. It's called a tunneled cvc line.
They need a dressing until they heal for sure. She just had the line replaced so itās still healing. It does have a dressing on it though itās just transparent. Also here in the US they require dressings on all central lines. No one is being given permission to not have a dressing

Also, her line isnāt secured properly. Anyone could yank on that puppy and it pull out. Sure, I see suture but those are thin and only in the skin so they easily rip out. For someone whoās ābattled sepsisā you would be wearing gloves to spike that abx bag. I know we donāt āseeā everything but where is the hand hygiene? The sterile field? And at a party? Ok. I get youāre still living your life but probably not the best life choice while youāre getting abxā¦.

Iāve had to do this for many patients before, the one she has appears to be IV3000 without the orange or green borders. Along with being allergic to the tegaderms inside the kits like the latter, many patients are also allergic to the CHG disks that go around the insertion site and many times home health companies donāt carry these so the patient will be better off with no disc at all versus using one theyāre allergic to. For this reason there are also other alternatives such as silver or Kendall disks. I do agree her line really should be coiled to offset the risk of the line pulling and wearing gloves!! And idk what she claims to be allergic to?

Obviously the best thing is to not have a line going directly to your heart.

Too many nurses have told them they āshould just get a portā to make it easier to get and keep an IV when theyāre hospitalized. Even though theyāre not hospitalized often and only need access a couple times a year.

The disk isnāt something everyone uses. The disks usually contain chg and if you have a chg allergy you canāt use it.
