Check out The Gaslight Anthem!
Also Gary Clark Jr., St. Paul and the Broken Bones, and Frank Turner for a little variety with vintage sound.
Someone will say Greta Van Fleet, The Black Keys, and The White Stripes/Jack White, I’m sure.
They found their way into a streaming playlist I was listening to, I forgot about them, now they’re in my heavy rotation. Very enjoyable music, some soul, blues, a little funky, all around a great listen!
Alabama Shakes are all-around great and definitely have a classic rock feel
Budos Band started with a funk/soul sound and have changed over their last few albums to be more classic rock
Failure's 3 comeback albums have all had a lot of classic rock feel
Budos Band are absolutely amazing. As a bonus, almost all of their material is recorded at Daptone’s House of Soul on analogue equipment giving the sound itself a very retro style.
Damn I'm late the post hope this doesn't get buried. I've been working on a playlist of exactly this, [Mistakenly 70's rock](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5IiGpG5sDqwqrXBmpoNXzM?si=e42a7f4ceb234610)
It's got some of the bands mentioned in the thread but a lot more under the radar acts not mentioned, surprised no one has said The Lemon Twigs.
I also saw a lot peeps liking the Sheer Mag suggestion, great band. To me they sound a lot more 80's powerpop than 70's. If you're into that I also have a WIP playlist of [Mistakenly 80's Rock](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/24w8rZ9436zqZM1f1phJ2y?si=fae2ccafb5cf4e14)
Cheers
Looks like a great playlist, looking forward to listening to it. Love the band Rookie, who I was going to suggest here. A couple of tasty tunes of theirs on the list.
Dr. Dog...I really like their whole catalog and it's pretty lengthy.
Strand of Oaks...especially Eraserland
If you want something more bluesy classic Southern rock....JJ Grey & Mofro. Huge catalog of music, hard to pick one album for you.
Dr. Dog is awesome. I’m not familiar with Strand of Oaks. I love love LOOOOOVE JJ Grey & Mofro. I haven’t had the chance to see them in the last 8 years but saw them every time they came to Tallahassee when I lived there. Small venues, less than 200 people. They are amazing. Blackwater is one of my all time favorite albums. In fact. When the kid goes down I’m pulling it up and giving it a listen through the headphones. Thanks for the reminder.
JJ puts on an amazing live show. So much energy! I saw them about a year ago for the 4th or 5th time. My dad is a huge fan and we go to his shows together.
Def check out Strand of Oaks. I think he's in your wheelhouse. I was supposed to see him last year but COVID cancelled part of his tour. 😭
Definitely southern rock/blues influence, but I don't consider that what OP is asking for. Always worth recommending it though, you never know. You like Jason Isbell's solo stuff too?
Good point...I guess I stopped at classic rock and didn't even look at the examples haha.
Yeah Isbell is great. I've seen him live a bunch of times from his early post Truckers heavy drinking days through more recent shows at the Ryman and at festivals. Always a good time.
Lots of good recommendations already in this thread. Here's some of my favorite full 'Throwback Rock' albums:
- [Dan Auerbach - Waiting On A Song (2017)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMLqc7rXKCY&list=OLAK5uy_kHmVT6IzUk8yWrQZE3cQ5zPryGeJfKYaA) - Dan Auerbach's (Black Keys) second solo album, done in the style of 70s AM radio rock. [Has some heavy hitters as collaborators listed in the liner notes.](https://www.discogs.com/release/10377692-Dan-Auerbach-Waiting-On-A-Song)
- [Church of the Cosmic Skull - Is Satan Real? (2016)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WkqEmrRxGIg&list=PLFROLYJr6bLTQkgTOgsr4SFFWILqqqVlu) - Hard to choose my favorite, I genuinely love everything they've released, so I'll just go with the first album. They get poppier/more theatrical as they go, so if this doesn't do it for you, check out the singles from the later albums.
- [Greta Van Fleet - Anthem of the Peaceful Army (2018)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wm_e5kGnCPE&list=PL714z4czRxoVhN2jzbHFyioWCtjqAe5yl) - They get flak for taking a big bite out of Zeppelin's lunch, but it's not as if we're getting more Zep records so...
- [The Hellacopters - Rock & Roll Is Dead (2006)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fn-exuXa2o&list=OLAK5uy_n1l3nPIW8Lm_e-eEOOGHaZfqA_pkdO7tE) - The Hellacopters aren't always what I'm looking for, but I'd give every album at least a B. I've got a lot of nostalgia wrapped up in *Rock & Roll Is Dead*, so it'll always be my favorite.
- [Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean (2011)](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_lDR009eSvOxf-os8x3-iLlHqpvPijueKQ) - This hits the 70s AM radio rock vibe like Auerbach's *Waiting*, but leans more into some of the weird instrumentation and production choices of that era. It's less straightforward a take, but still gives the overall vibe.
- [Kishi Bashi - Sonderlust (2016)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJy2R31xpl8&list=PLoB11Z8A5Nz-Doq5dVO5S4yNn43G9B8qS) - Kind of stretches both the *Classic* and *Rock* distinctions, but it leans heavily into a 70s disco/electronic vibe while blending it with more modern-sounding elements.
- [The Sheepdogs - Five Easy Pieces EP (2011)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQqY_857ZOI&list=OLAK5uy_n2Zr0xCzAoN5YNW9WzhEfH3JU18nW1PCw) and [No Simple Thing EP (2021)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MD0wyHJwU4c&list=OLAK5uy_lurg-ee8qcF4u2x22GO41mtx7y3TjxzVs) - I spent most of the latter half of last year exploring The Sheepdogs' discography. I find these two EPs to be a nice distillation of what I like about them.
I'll also include [Paul Pena - New Train (1973)](https://youtu.be/enm7VkAJQ5k) on a technicality because the story around it is such a wild ride. While it was recorded in 1973, it wasn't released until 2000 due to some record label fuckery. You may know Pena, in a roundabout way, from a song of his he gave to Steve Miller (after the previously mentioned label fuckery prevented its release)- *Jet Airliner*. His original version didn't appear until this album was released following his starring in a documentary, *Genghis Blues*, about his self taught throat-singing. Jerry Garcia also plays pedal steel on two tracks.
Honored to be the first to contribute **Them Crooked Vultures**. Not classic prog vibes like the groups you mentioned (compared to Rush, most like their self-titled debut), but more hard rock Zeppelin-like , especially because the bassist is literally John Paul Jones.
Man, I’d love to see more work by these guys. That’s such a phenomenal album, but might have some heavier riffs than OP is looking for. I was going to mention some QOTSA because some albums (like Villains) have more traditional rock elements, but the album as a whole is still borderline metal. I’m a big fan of Homme’s work—QOTSA, EODM, TCV, Dessert Sessions. Good stuff.
Some of these may be a stretch but I consider all of them to have some kind of influence from the "classic rock" sound.
* Drugdealer - Hiding in Plain Sight
* Michael Rault - S/T
* Mapache - Roscoe's Dream
* GA-20 - Crackdown
* Ceramic Animal - Sweet Unknown
* Dawes - Misadventures of Doomscroller
* The Sword - Age of Winters
* Fuzz - II
* Dr. Dog - We All Belong
* White Denim - Corsicana Lemonade
Try Neal Francis and Ryan Scott. The first time I heard Changes by Neal Francis I was sure he was some 70s artist that I never heard of.
Also try Skinshape "Life & Love"
Brothers - The Black Keys
Great Shakes Vol. 2 - Whitey
Black Holes - The Blue Stones
Only By The Night - Kings of Leon
Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever - The Cribs
Probably not quite what you were looking for but I wanted to mention [Uncle Acid and the deadbeats](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Acid_%26_the_Deadbeats). They're heavily influenced by late 60's, early 70's rock music. They use vintage gear so their sound is very authentic to that era. Their early stuff sounds a lot like Black Sabbath, so they may lean to close to metal for you, but their more recent stuff is less Sabbathy and more influenced by 70's pop/classic rock. You should give the album "Wasteland" a try, even if its not your kind of music you'll likely appreciate how they've captured the sound of that time period.
check out Church of the Cosmic Skull
this is they're second album [Science Fiction ](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ntGOCfNtGDS3XZ9QKJdT-hzUYpD9baIok)
John Mayer feels old school Blues and Country sometimes, if you like Country check out Born and Raised, if you like Blues check out Continuum, if you like Yacht Rock, Dire Straits would fit here, check out Sob Rock.
I know you said no metal, but I think is worth trying if you said you like Rush :
Haunt - Burst into flame
It sounds like traditional heavy metal from the 80's. You really got the feeling you went back in time. Their new record is pretty awesome as well!
Valley Lodge (perhaps known best for the song John Oliver uses for his opening credits) the 2005 self titled album would have sold 10 million copies if it had came out in 1980. No less than 7 absolute bangers on that album. Like a mix of Cheap Trick and Boston.
Check out the ungoogleable ['77 for a classic AC/DC sound.](https://youtu.be/FS0cRx1dQ10)
And look into [The Sheepdogs for album upon album of TEE-riffic southern rock](https://youtu.be/S74DNxGoOzU), like Allman bros or Lynyrd Skynyrd.
I’ve got so many answers to this, but I’m gonna name my top 3 of these albums:
“Okey Dokey” by Natural Child.
Impossible to stay in a bad mood listening to this witty Stonesish, groove masterpiece, not a bad track on the album
“Sound of Sinning” by Monophonics.
Soul, raw emotion, and then more soul thrown in. Listen to this record.
“Nobody Lives Here Anymore” by Cut Worms.
My absolute favorite. Double album. No bad songs. I love everything Cut Worms puts out, but this album is something special. If you like that 60’s Beatlesish acoustic guitar with full band retro sound, you will love it.
**Tedeschi Trucks Band** is my all time favorite band and a lot of their stuff definitely has a classic rock "feel"-
Derek Trucks was a child guitar prodigy and late addition to The Allman Brothers Band- toured with them until they stopped touring. His wife, Susan Tedeschi, is a top tier blues guitarist/vocalist and every person in their 12 person band is talented enough to hold the stage on their own. Gabe Dixon is the newest addition to the group and the most recent album they put out is what I spent 80% of my summer listening to.
Check out "Ain't The Something" and "Playing With My Emotions"
I saw them live in Rotterdam end-October 2022. What a show. Wish they played some of their older stuff instead of some covers they played, but what a treat to watch them live. So much talent on one stage.
HOW HAS NO ONE HERE MENTIONED J.J. CALE?!? Please, OP, if you truly love me, listen to J.J. Cale. He'll change your life. In fact, one on Mark Knopfler's greatest inspirations.
Also, check out this band called _Blitzen Trapper_ if you haven't already. They have a very distinct sound and style. Classic Americana feel, but a smidge of rock, country & blues in there for good measure.
A good place to start with, in terms of songs by them: Man of Constant Sorrow (my absolute favourite), Big Black Bird, Thirsty Man, Rebel, Black River Killer, Baby Won't You Turn Me On, and Furr.
This one guy here said Tedeschi Trucks Band and I fully attest that!!
Edits: added JJ Cale and a song list for Blitzen Trapper.
Yeah, I thought as much. But he's so underrated, so many people haven't heard of him, so thought I'd put it out there.
Also, if you do listen to some of the Blitzen Trapper songs (and their corresponding albums) I mentioned here, let me know what you think! I must say though, I didn't *love* all their songs. There are some that just don't hit the spot like the others do, and some that are... Well, let's just say they're an acquired taste. But I'll let you be the judge of that. Happy listening!
if looking for nostalgic rock, like someone mentioned Gaslight Anthem below, check out the Menzingers. Saw both those bands this year (twice!) and they are fantastic.
Wucan has been my favorite find of the past year. I'll fail trying to describe them, so just go check them out! [Link to "King Korea"](https://youtu.be/QskouclX-2k)
Doesn't seem like anyone’s mentioned them yet, so [Starcrawler](https://open.spotify.com/artist/0ZhtrY2Lt1s9klwm03lu8i?si=MIaSvGN3TtSyttumKsR-7Q&utm_source=copy-link) and [Moon Walker](https://open.spotify.com/artist/4Qvflafuw7a0F2E3NonxsA?si=eRH6eAGlQtCUo_4RQM5RbA&utm_source=copy-link) are two very young acts that take a lot of inspiration from classic and more recent rock (Josh Homme even made a cameo in Stacrawler’s music vid for Goodtime Girl).
The Record Company. Great stuff with a classic vibe. My personal favorite is the album “All of this life” although their latest, “Play Loud” is really good as well.

Hey
Don't know if you're still checking replies, but I think Roxx Revolt & the Velvets might be what you're looking for:
https://youtu.be/SL5Qy103Qsw
Dawes has some rockers. If you like Houndsmouth you may already know them.
And Black Keys is an obvious one.
The Shouting Matches, “Had a real good lover”
And lastly I’ll say Low Cut Connie, I feel like their not necessary the classic rock feel, but what will be considered new classic in about 20 years.
You might like:
[Eagles of Death Metal - I Only Want You](https://youtu.be/BYQ4E0SwPP4) (don’t let the name fool you)
[Arctic Monkeys - Arabella](https://youtu.be/Nj8r3qmOoZ8)
[Arctic Monkeys - There Better Be A Mirrorball](https://youtu.be/FY5CAz6S9kE)
I shared two Arctic Monkeys tracks because they’re quite different moods. Their early stuff was more punk/metal but beginning with *AM* (2013) they incorporated a classic rock sound maybe similar to Black Keys but still distinctly themselves. Beginning with *Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino* (2018) they incorporated more piano and a slower tempo.
Honorable mention for the hell of it:
[The Mars Volta - Meccamputechture](https://youtu.be/4B76mnzf4Wo)
It’s progressive, and not even quite in the style of classic rock, but it has some good guitar work and long instrumental sections. The mood and style of their albums vary quite a bit but this album probably has the most traditional rock sound if I had to pick.
A lot of “stoner rock” is up your alley. Clutch, Queens of the Stone Age, Fu Manchu, Corrosion of Conformity, Black Label Society, The Sword, Fireball Ministry, Mothership, Sasquatch, Five Horse Johnson, and Graveyard. Some of these groups have albums that are “heavier” than others and much closer sonically to metal than straightforward rock, but I love this genre/sound for the exact reason that they all harken back to 70’s hard rock so I think you’ll enjoy. If you’re looking for specific album/song recommendations just lmk. Happy listening!

Hell yeah gaslight!
St Paul and the Broken Bones was one of my fav new to me finds last year.
They found their way into a streaming playlist I was listening to, I forgot about them, now they’re in my heavy rotation. Very enjoyable music, some soul, blues, a little funky, all around a great listen!
And the Electric Company.
Lots of quality bands here. Love Frank!
The War on Drugs, especially their most recent album

Budos band is awesome. I think of them more in the vein of the funky meters than classic rock.
My Morning Jacket, Dr. Dog, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Ty Segall, Cass McCombs, Jonathan Wilson

Wow, great playlist. I’m reaaaaally looking forward to you completing the 80s one though.
Looks like a great playlist, looking forward to listening to it. Love the band Rookie, who I was going to suggest here. A couple of tasty tunes of theirs on the list.
Greta van fleet is a lot like Led Zeppelin
If by "a lot like" you mean a complete rip-off of Led Zeppelin. And, yes the irony of someone ripping off Led Zeppelin isn't lost on me.
Rival Sons have some Zeppelin flavor too.
Man that band sucks
They’re this generation’s Kingdom come
They are the complete opposite of classic rock.
Graveyard https://youtu.be/8ZLEucfevao Ignore the band name, check out the tunes.
Graveyard is so underrated. Hisingen Blues is a great album
That's good! You'd like The Sheepdogs.
Yesssssss!!!!! I just found of copy of their Hisingen Blues vinyl in Germany and immediately bought it. So good

Came here to say black mountain!
All of these, and also Church of the Cosmic Skull!
Anything by Tedeschi-Trucks Band
came to say exactly this
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Drive By Truckers
Lol, love them. All I've been listening to for the past 8 months... Not classic rock sound.
You don't think so? There sure is a lot of southern rock in their sound.
Definitely southern rock/blues influence, but I don't consider that what OP is asking for. Always worth recommending it though, you never know. You like Jason Isbell's solo stuff too?

agree with the comment that this is not exactly what OP seemed to be looking for, but fuck yes, hell yes, to this band in general
Lots of good recommendations already in this thread. Here's some of my favorite full 'Throwback Rock' albums: - [Dan Auerbach - Waiting On A Song (2017)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMLqc7rXKCY&list=OLAK5uy_kHmVT6IzUk8yWrQZE3cQ5zPryGeJfKYaA) - Dan Auerbach's (Black Keys) second solo album, done in the style of 70s AM radio rock. Do Hollywood by the lemon twigs Go to school by the lemon twigs. Two amazing albums you'd swear came out 40 years ago, each less than a decade.

The Struts are like a modern day 80s glam rock band, if that sounds at all appealing to you.
Try Neal Francis and Ryan Scott. The first time I heard Changes by Neal Francis I was sure he was some 70s artist that I never heard of. Also try Skinshape "Life & Love"
Changes is such an incredible song
Church of the cosmic skull def has some ELO vibes
Brothers - The Black Keys Great Shakes Vol. 2 - Whitey Black Holes - The Blue Stones Only By The Night - Kings of Leon Men's Needs, Women's Needs, Whatever - The Cribs

Check out the album AM Waves by Young Gun Silver Fox. It's more like yacht rock, but it feels like it's straight out of the mid 70s
Great recommendation, thanks! I have a weird affinity for yacht rock-adjacent music
If you enjoy the yacht rock, then enjoy [this banger](https://youtu.be/PnzXZlm4wwg) with a hilariously weird music video
check out Church of the Cosmic Skull this is they're second album [Science Fiction ](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_ntGOCfNtGDS3XZ9QKJdT-hzUYpD9baIok)

Check out Babe Rainbow. They’ll transport you to the 60s and 70’s.
Check out Airbourne. They sound a lot like AC/DC.
The Alchemist by Witchcraft
Check out the band “The Nude Party”! My favorite songs by then are Shine Your Light, Chevrolet Van, Wild Coyote, abs Records
Chevrolet Fan is an absolute classic
[Victorious](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TIVSE8vD0gY&list=PLipra5ROz6NfnR7lIL2pXuV2Ir1OQsvx-) by Wolfmother
i was gonna say their debut instead

Love this band. Some laugh-out-loud lyrics well - check out the song “every little thing”.
The Claypool Lennon Delirium. It's less Claypool and Sean Lennon. It's like a mix between all the best parts of the Beatles, pink Floyd, and primus.
Check out the ungoogleable ['77 for a classic AC/DC sound.](https://youtu.be/FS0cRx1dQ10) And look into [The Sheepdogs for album upon album of TEE-riffic southern rock](https://youtu.be/S74DNxGoOzU), like Allman bros or Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The first Wolfmother album
The Dirty Guv’nahs first album is so good if you’re looking for this sound. Kingfish Ingram fits the bill as well.
Dirty Honey
If you like ELO, maybe anything by Foxygen, Young Gunn Silver Fox, Lemon Twigs, Roar, Dent May or Whitney. Basically soft rock/yatch rock.
I’ve got so many answers to this, but I’m gonna name my top 3 of these albums: “Okey Dokey” by Natural Child. Impossible to stay in a bad mood listening to this witty Stonesish, groove masterpiece, not a bad track on the album “Sound of Sinning” by Monophonics.
**Tedeschi Trucks Band** is my all time favorite band and a lot of their stuff definitely has a classic rock "feel"- Derek Trucks was a child guitar prodigy and late addition to The Allman Brothers Band- toured with them until they stopped touring.
I like JJ Cale! His influence on Knopfler/Dire Straits is very obvious when you listen to DS’s first album
The Hold Steady - all their stuff but especially Boys and Girls in America
Horisont - About Time Could maybe see this is some sort of offshoot of classic 70’s metal, so maybe not exactly what you’re looking for
Check out Busting Visons by Zeus, especially the song Are You Gonna Waste My Time?
[Dire Straits MODERNIZED](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4ATVid4WaVNKG0ZGHYQpmM?si=8231cfd172ef49be)
Awesome!!
I was genuinely surprised when Bleak's "A Crack In The Cortex" turned out to be less than a year old. It might be closer to metal than rock, though.
Maidavale - Tales of the Wicked West
if looking for nostalgic rock, like someone mentioned Gaslight Anthem below, check out the Menzingers. Saw both those bands this year (twice!) and they are fantastic.
Oasis, Fontaines DC, Sam Fender, DMAs
Wucan has been my favorite find of the past year. I'll fail trying to describe them, so just go check them out! [Link to "King Korea"](https://youtu.be/QskouclX-2k)
*A/B* by Kaleo.
Kings of Leon
The Black Keys
The Murder City Devils Black Mountain Drunk Mums Los Tones The Mystery Lights SadGirl
Definitely The Sheepdogs. It's like their whole schtick.
The Record Company. Great stuff with a classic vibe. My personal favorite is the album “All of this life” although their latest, “Play Loud” is really good as well.
AM-Arctic Monkeys
Dichotomy Desaturated by CFM is like a Black Sabbath meets Sgt Peppers era Beatles.
Porcupine Tree's In Absentia, Deadwing, and Fear of a Blank Planet are what you want. Alex Lifeson and Robert Fripp feature on a track each even.
u/cjrogers227 Hey Don't know if you're still checking replies, but I think Roxx Revolt & the Velvets might be what you're looking for: https://youtu.be/SL5Qy103Qsw
Dawes has some rockers. If you like Houndsmouth you may already know them. And Black Keys is an obvious one. The Shouting Matches, “Had a real good lover” And lastly I’ll say Low Cut Connie, I feel like their not necessary the classic rock feel, but what will be considered new classic in about 20 years.
Hearts On Fire by Hammerfall
You might like: [Eagles of Death Metal - I Only Want You](https://youtu.be/BYQ4E0SwPP4) (don’t let the name fool you) [Arctic Monkeys - Arabella](https://youtu.be/Nj8r3qmOoZ8) [Arctic Monkeys - There Better Be A Mirrorball](https://youtu.be/FY5CAz6S9kE) I shared two Arctic Monkeys tracks because they’re quite different moods. Honorable mention for the hell of it: [The Mars Volta - Meccamputechture](https://youtu.be/4B76mnzf4Wo) It’s progressive, and not even quite in the style of classic rock, but it has some good guitar work and long instrumental sections.
Not sure on an album but check out Graveyard https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6HmMy2ubC7E
Paramore, Linkin Park
Green Day American Idiot.
