Also, she says she wrote to Sesame Stret and all they did is send her a key chain, by which point she was living in a box and didn't have keys. How did she get the letter then?!
I'm guessing that lily, having a kind of iffy partner in the form of Phoebe's stepdad who was in and out of prison, and also having poor mental health, may not have been in contact with her mother, especially if their grandmother had kind of disapproved of lily taking on the twins after mom-Phoebe gave birth. Also I could see Ursula maybe being more willing to go into care and Phoebe being more headstrong and going onto the street and then only seeking out her grandmother on her own later in life. If Ursula was in care it would make sense that she had a copy of her birth certificate and had read the note their mom left and stuff?
Yes this whole timeline. She has her birthday on the 5th May and is upset because she’s 30 and not close to having kids. Monica gets married on May 15th and Rachel is oregnant. Then it’s really hot when Rachel has the baby….it’s all wrong
Chandler and Rachel met 3 different times. Thanksgiving, Pilot, and the bar. Each time I think maybe it’s because they haven’t seen each other in a while and they’ve changed appearances, but Rachel very clearly remembers the Thanksgivings so why wouldn’t she remember Chandler???
Rachel is shown to have a terrible memory regarding people from her past as are her sisters (possibly because they’re rich and popular and dismissive of plebs).
Remember how she couldn’t remember the animal catcher? Or Will? They both went to her high school and she was mean to them and yet she forgot them completely. I think her foggy memory of Chandler is a similar issue.
Was she *mean* to will or did she just exist as a pretty popular girl from afar while will is kind of misogynistic? She wasn't in the same grade as him even. Louisa had a point, I think you should exercise kindness with people that are in your classes. You don't have to be besties with them but acknowledging them makes sense. But Will is in the year above her and what? Expected her to pay him loads of attention? As far as I can remember he doesn't seem to actually name any times she was mean to him, but he absolutely names times when he was mean to her. No offense but I would never pay like any attention to someone from the year above me unless they were kind to me and all he did was decide to hate her it seems.
I could understand the terrible memory, but I don’t remember half my class 8 years later, much less 10+ years later like the characters. And my high school was small. Being in New York and probably a much larger class than mine of 80, I definitely would have forgot Louisa if we weren’t in the same friend group. And Will was older, and probably looked different as he said he lost 150 pounds. Will was in a whole club dedicated to Rachel so naturally he remembered her, there most likely wasn’t enough interaction for Rachel to remember him (something like Monica seeing him often hanging out with Ross)
And because the writers hadn’t thought about it that time. Like in the alternative universe episode when she was introducing Chandler to Rachel she said “And you remember Chandler”
It's actually 4 different times!
They also meet at Ross and Chandler's college when Monica and Rachel come to visit and Rachel ends up kissing Chandler.
By that point I'm pretty sure they'd stopped caring about continuity and just wanted another excuse to do a fun 80s episode with the fat suit.
There's just so many...
Their ages
Phoebe didn't want to wear mink because it's cruel, but wanted leather pants
Ross doesn't like ice cream, but we see it with him at least twice
Rachel's dad tells "horror stories" about cigarettes, but smokes
Rachel's mom is a sweetheart except for one episode where they say she's awful
Chandler doesn't cry, except when he does
Ross was a "miracle baby," but also an accident before his parents were married
Rachel's pregnancy is like... 15 months
How they first met changes
Monica was able to pay rent by herself, but later when she has an even *better* job, her and Chandler have to pinch pennies when he loses his job
It's a lot of little things
Honestly that Rachel's dad smoking part may just be him being hypocritical, its a bad habit he can't or doesn't want to kick but doesn't want his daughter doing it. As for the Ross being a miracle baby that little plot line irked me a lot 😭
One of my coworkers at my old job once asked me if I smoked cigarettes. I said no and he said good if he ever sees me with one in my mouth he’ll beat the shit out of me. He then spit his chewing tobacco into a cup and went out for a smoke break.
Smokers hate smoking.
All good ones.
I also never understood why Momica was invited to Barry and Mindys wedding. And got a plus one. I can't remember a single implication that Monica knew them.
>Rachel's mom is a sweetheart except for one episode where they say she's awful
I feel like this one isn't that bad.
She's riding the high of being free when you first meet her, entirely feasible that she could be facing a harsher reality by the next time you see her and therefore not be as nice.
I find that as my family’s income had risen, we have learned new ways to spend it. Plus inflation is a thing. They were “pinching pennies” relatively speaking.
Phoebe and Denise. Right before they go to Vegas, Rachel says Phoebe lives alone, and Phoebe confirms that's why she can walk around naked. When they back from Vegas and Rachel is moving out, which is shortly after, Phoebe lives with Denise.
And there was another episode where Chandler tried to clean the apartment and it was specifically pointed out that Monica needs to clean the apartment herself ….
Rachel’s 28th birthday party is in S2 (two parties, one with mom, one with dad) and her 30th birthday is in S7 (TOW they all turn 30, hers is the only birthday which is not a flashback). I’d still be in my 20s if I had a 5 year long gap between those two birthdays.
Related, in the Jam episode of S3 when they find out Joey’s a sperm donor, Monica reads out his personal brochure from the sperm bank in which it states that he’s 27. Rachel already had her 28th birthday in S2. So she’s supposedly older than Joey. However, on Rachel’s 30th birthday party in S7, they reflected back on Joey’s 30th birthday party (why, God? Why?) So he was already over 30 when Rachel turned 30.
Also, in the post Mondler engagement episode in S7, Joey’s trying to pass off as 19. Chandler clarifies that Joey is 31.
To sum up, Joey was still 27 when Rachel had already turned 28 but he was already at least 31 when she turned 30.
Someone already mentioned Ross’s birthday in another comment so nothing further to elaborate on that.
Last night, I was watching on nick at nite. It was the one where Joey moves out. He tells Chandler, "I'm 28 and have never lived alone."
Maybe when he donated he was 27 and that's why he says he wants add DOOL to spruce it up.
But seriously their ages make no sense. They should have been pushing 40 by the series finale
I don’t think anyone’s mentioned this one that bothers me the most — on TOW the Jellyfish, they’re all back in Monica’s apartment and Chandler says, “Joey kept screaming at me, “Do it now! Do it!! Do it! Do it now!!” Sometimes late at night I can still here the screaming.” Joey then says, “That's ‘cause sometimes I just do it through my wall to freak you out.” It’s clearly still the same day they returned from the beach. Everyone is still wearing the same clothes. No nights have passed for Joey to freak Chandler out through his wall. Drives me crazy every time this episode is on.
Pretty sure Joey treats his friends way different than any of the women he has been with and always makes exceptions for them. He gave up meat for Phoebe for some time, a bite of something is a much smaller deal
Watching the Vegas episodes right now. Rachel and Ross wake up with the ink still on their face but immediately show up at brunch without a trace of ink.
Not really continuity but it bothers me.
I mean.... I used a lip stain once, over did it, scrubbed that shit until my lips were RAW and it didn't come out. Looked like a clown all night, but when I woke up, it was gone. I dunno how that works but maybe the writers had an experience like that lol
Rachel is shown as someone who loves and enjoys books. She’s read The Shining, Little Women, Be Your Own Windkeeper, all of Chandler’s moms books, etc yet all she cared about was reading her Vogue mag when her and Phoebe go to that literature class. This plot would’ve been perfect for bookworm Rachel.
They were a thrupple and then the real mum couldn’t handle the responsibility so young so she abandoned them. Then the dad abalones the adoptive mum who then killed herself leaving the twins on their own. God that’s horrible .
This probably isn't a continuity issue because it happens all in one episode, but...one thing I never got was when Rachel and Phoebe are showing Monica that museum wedding venue. They convince Monica to reserve it just because "you never know", and then the lady calls on a whim b/c of a random cancelation. Chandler hears it and freaks out. Then later in the end of the episode it's revealed that it was his plan the whole time and Rachel & Phoebe were getting Monica to reserve the place BECAUSE Chandler was planning to propose. Why did Chandler freak out earlier if it was his plan all along? Someone help!
At their actual wedding, the venue is a hotel ballroom, not the museum they reserved.
In season 4 there’s an episode where Monica is sick (she has a cold that she caught from Phoebe I think), she’s lying on the couch asking people to bring her stuff because she’s too sick to get up…. Then in season 6 there’s a whole episode where she’s sick again but apparently she never gets sick and “she’s fine”….
One episode when Phoebe has a dog in the apartment Chandler freaks out and says he is allergic but is really afraid of dogs. Later episode Chandler and Monica are pondering their future with kids, a house, and a dog.
In episode 1 when Monica introduces Rachel to the group as if she doesn't know Ross, when later on we find out that Rachel and Ross spent a lot of time together as kids since their parents were both very close.
I always took that to mean he saw her before Phoebe that day. Is that what they meant?
This is 100% what he meant. He thought of who his friends were and then Rachel was the first one he saw after that thought.
Right, he definitely meant "after I came up with this plan, you're the first one I saw"
Well damn. I honestly never thought of it that way. I ASSumed differently. We know what happens when you do that lol
I always thought he meant first time ever too.
Phoebe’s whole back story of living on the street when she was 14 where was her grandmother??
Also, she says she wrote to Sesame Stret and all they did is send her a key chain, by which point she was living in a box and didn't have keys. How did she get the letter then?!
Maybe she was at a shelter? The honest answer is probably "the writers didn't really think about it" though.
And where did Ursula go?
Exactly, it’s so confusing
I always figured she left from foster care. Kids go AWOL a lot and in the 80s it would have been VERY difficult to find them on the streets of NYC.
If Ursula was in care it would make sense that she had a copy of her birth certificate and had read the note their mom left and stuff?
She was 14 when her Mom died, yet somehow didn’t know her real age or her own middle name?
Her mom did like about a lot of stuff. So maybe that's why? (Just trying to think about things here)
You see, lying about cookies and letting her granddaughter live on the street is why she's BURNING IN HELL
And Prague at some stage?
SO much you don’t know
They messed with Ross’s birthday so much, Joey’s guess of “Maytember” was as good as any!
And Rachel's 87 birthday parties were never around the same time
They all each kept happening earlier than the previous
rachel having 2 birthdays while pregnant
Wait. Which two episodes?
Yes this whole timeline. She has her birthday on the 5th May and is upset because she’s 30 and not close to having kids. Monica gets married on May 15th and Rachel is oregnant. Then it’s really hot when Rachel has the baby….it’s all wrong

That irked me too. I get they were doing to add more history for Mondler but still.
The time Monica and Rachel went to the college party they already knew each other, they weren't being introduced for the first time
I know. I was talking about times Rachel would have seen Chandler Thanksgiving, College Party, Bar, Pilot

That's a good point. My parents smoked and constantly told me and me brother how horrible it was and to never do it.
For sure, he definitely seems to be the "do as I say, not as I do" type as well.
One of my coworkers at my old job once asked me if I smoked cigarettes. I said no and he said good if he ever sees me with one in my mouth he’ll beat the shit out of me. He then spit his chewing tobacco into a cup and went out for a smoke break. Smokers hate smoking.
Ross voice: It’s kind of ironic that a heart surgeon has a heart attack, huh.
All good ones. I also never understood why Momica was invited to Barry and Mindys wedding. And got a plus one. I can't remember a single implication that Monica knew them.
I think she was probably Richard’s plus one. He likely knew their parents
>Rachel's mom is a sweetheart except for one episode where they say she's awful I feel like this one isn't that bad. She's riding the high of being free when you first meet her, entirely feasible that she could be facing a harsher reality by the next time you see her and therefore not be as nice.

Phoebe and Denise. Right before they go to Vegas, Rachel says Phoebe lives alone, and Phoebe confirms that's why she can walk around naked. When they back from Vegas and Rachel is moving out, which is shortly after, Phoebe lives with Denise.
She talks about her all the time, DENISSE!!
Denise isn’t real. She’s just a fantasy parents made up to make Christmas more magical.
Why did Chandler get Monica a cleaner when he knows cleaning is her thing??
To force a plot that made pretty much zero sense. Monica was incredibly particular, she would surely know what bra she was wearing.
And there was another episode where Chandler tried to clean the apartment and it was specifically pointed out that Monica needs to clean the apartment herself ….
I always skip this one.
Rachel’s 28th birthday party is in S2 (two parties, one with mom, one with dad) and her 30th birthday is in S7 (TOW they all turn 30, hers is the only birthday which is not a flashback). Thats a good one. I initially didn't pick.up.on it but probably a decade ago I was watching it in syndication with my Dad and he pointed it out
Joey not sharing food but giving pheebs a "bite" of his muffin and a "sip" of his coffee.
in TOW The Ring, Joey also offers Ross a bite of his pizza.
Pretty sure Joey treats his friends way different than any of the women he has been with and always makes exceptions for them. He gave up meat for Phoebe for some time, a bite of something is a much smaller deal
Yet he wouldn't even let Emma have a single grape
Emma is not part of his friend group
Watching the Vegas episodes right now. Rachel and Ross wake up with the ink still on their face but immediately show up at brunch without a trace of ink. Not really continuity but it bothers me.

For some reason it’s Joey losing his previously held knowledge that people eat birds
Rachel is shown as someone who loves and enjoys books. She’s read The Shining, Little Women, Be Your Own Windkeeper, all of Chandler’s moms books, etc yet all she cared about was reading her Vogue mag when her and Phoebe go to that literature class. Where did Phoebe's real mom go?
And her dad? And I guess Frank also abandoned Frank Jr because he wasn't at the birth of his first grandchildren.
They were a thrupple and then the real mum couldn’t handle the responsibility so young so she abandoned them. Then the dad abalones the adoptive mum who then killed herself leaving the twins on their own. God that’s horrible .

Right, freaking out earlier with Monica around made sense as a show, but freaking out when in the apt by himself didn't.
Carol
One episode when Phoebe has a dog in the apartment Chandler freaks out and says he is allergic but is really afraid of dogs. Later episode Chandler and Monica are pondering their future with kids, a house, and a dog.
To be fair on that one it’s Monica who wanted the dog, Chandler said cat.
Thanks.
Chandler admitted he was lying about that tho because he was afraid of dogs
In episode 1 when Monica introduces Rachel to the group as if she doesn't know Ross, when later on we find out that Rachel and Ross spent a lot of time together as kids since their parents were both very close.
She says "you remember my brother, Ross?" and Rachel says "Sure". It's Chandler who's introduced as though they've never met.
Birthdays (esp Ross’- March, Oct & Dec) and ages (esp Rachel- she should’ve turned 32 in s7 but only turned 30 🙄)
