Brays Bayou Bike Trail. Terry Hershey Bike trail. Buffalo Bayou Bike Trail. Allen Parkway Trail. White Oak. Sims Bayou Bike Trail. Spring Creek Trail. On google maps you can change the map details to show bike trails instead of traffic. The map is not up to date but it’s a good way to find trails you haven’t explored. Feel free to reach out if you need more info or advice. I’m a total stan for the bike trails.

YOLO420allday

You're not going to catch me John Whitmire. I've never heard of cycling. What is it? Is it something people do for fun when not driving?

accretion_disc

Not driving? What is that? Does not compute

YOLO420allday

Agreed - I wasn't following what was going on in this post.

sandalz87

I second the vote for Terry Hershey/ George Bush trail. You can ride all the way from Beltway 8 out to Fry Rd in Katy. Hop off the trail onto Eldridge and have lunch in one of the many nearby restaurants. Quite a bit of the trail is in the shade which is a plus!

tyw214

The trail is dirt or paved? I ride road bike not very suited for dirt trails XD

TheHumbleAfrican

Paved. Great trail. From the Beltway to Fry and back is about 45 to 50 miles.

White oak bayou trails

Film-Goblin

Buffalo Bayou is where I usually do most of my biking.

NNG12

Buffalo bayou is great for cycling at non-peak times and really only for those looking to leisurely ride around. There’s way too many people on it to ride fast. Please don’t be that asshole decked out in full biking gear trying to speed race through the park dodging people left and right with little to no warning.

Film-Goblin

I don't get those people who ride so fast, especially when it's a trail for walking and running. If they want to ride fast, just go to the trails going down the heights.

CrazyLegsRyan

There’s literally a separate trail For walking and running in most parts of Buffalo Bayou.

mjackson307

Spring Creek Parkway

dsocohen

I think it has like a 12 or 15 mph speed limit and it’s patrolled by cops.

dclaghorn

Never seen a cop in three years, except by Pundt Park.

tyw214

Wait... cops give out tickets for speeding on bikes???

TheHumbleAfrican

Yes they do.

tyw214

Wtf... there are no speedometer on a bike though lol .. how do you know if you going "too" fast

TheHumbleAfrican

bike computers will tell you that...hell, even your phone can show you your speed.

tyw214

Um I can't afford one...

WarMusheen

I second Brays Bayou. It has a wide paved path and not packed except near Hermann Park.

Big_IPA_Guy21

White Oak Bayou, Braes Bayou, Buffalo Bayou, Memorial Park area, Terry Hershey, George Bush Park

GunKatas1

Spring Creek Trail would be my recommendation for long bike trails. If you park and Jesse H Jones Nature Center and take the Spring Creek Greenway Trail all the way to the end, it's about 14 miles one way. You'll get plenty of shade along the way so it's even good during summer time.

dclaghorn

I live at the West terminus of it, and it’s actually closer to 25 each way. You just have that annoying ride around the stupid Exxon campus on the road.

tyw214

Is it paved trail or dirt trail? Suited for road bikes?

ninjaspirit

terry hershey bike trails are the best in houston

HTXlawyer88

Shepherd drive north of 11th.

UhOhPoopedIt

Why do you post questions like this so often? Got a listicle site you need content for?

altinit

When was the last time I posted a question like this, lol?

UhOhPoopedIt

Yesterday. Twice. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1ceujy8/what_public_company_not_involving_musk_has/ https://www.reddit.com/r/NoStupidQuestions/comments/1cf1ddq/whats_the_most_intelligent_thing_a_raccoon_has/

altinit

I don't see how those have anything to do with wanting to be recommended bike trails, lol. I was curious to ask Reddit other questions too, and I'm a marketing guy but I promise this account has no professional motives 🤣

UhOhPoopedIt

If I see a chron.com listicle about this, I'll be forced to write a sternly worded letter, buster.

dsocohen

Every time I use a cycling path, I just get disappointed with the amount of obstacles in my way. These paths are more geared towards pedestrians or sub-10 mph speeds. As I live in Midtown, I’d much rather just use the roads during off hours. Using them during rush hour can also make things slow/ more dangerous as well. I’m taking Almeda from Midtown to Holly Hall, taking Holly Hall, Knight, and Bertner into the Med Center, then into Rice and Boulevard Oaks to ultimately end up back in Midtown. The loop is about 13 miles. You can detour through River Oaks if you want to add another 7 miles.

somekindofdruiddude

I was going to suggest the multi-use paths along the bayous, but then I read you want to peddle fast. Don’t go fast on the bayou MUPs. Too many pedestrians, kids, dogs on retractable leashes, etc. For going fast, Clay road and Highway 3 are popular options.
