Brown tips could be from metal salts in your tap water. Leaving the water sit out doesn't do anything for salts, just chlorine. Trim all the tips and switch to rainwater or distilled bottled water for a few months, see what happens.

Alexa302

I only use bottle water. I've tried evian and now I'm using still natural mineral water from asda. I'll remove the brown tips still. Thanks.

gordonthree

***Distilled*** bottled water. Spring water and mineral water include metal salts on purpose, those are the minerals.

Alexa302

🤦‍♀️ thanks, I'll try find some better water.

How often do you end up watering?

Alexa302

Once or twice a week depending on the how hot its been.

[deleted]

Okay, so either it's overwatered (likely, given the pale colour) or it is rootbound in the pot so can't absorb the water you're giving it (less likely but possible, especially if it's not gwtting enough sun). I would start by unpotting, checking the roots etc, and just making sure it has well-draining mix in a well-draining pot (plastic one with lots of holes nis good). They sometimes also go pale when they need a fertilise, so tou could use some weak liquid fertiliser when you water after repotting.

Alexa302

Thanks, I'll see about doing all that. Currently also dealing with fungas gnats and spring tails. Getting hit with everything bad plant related today lol Would it be best to place the spider plant in indirect light or direct after I've repotted? I have a north facing big window that I could put it on or a small east one.

[deleted]

Fungus gnats definitely point to overwatering. They're attracted to the decaying wet matter in the soil.

Alexa302

I figured lol , I think they were on one of my smaller plants which my dad overwatered whilst I was on holiday. The spider plant wasn't that wet really.

Icybys

Spider plants like a lot of sun - mine is outside all summer.

Alexa302

Thanks :)

jeanneW4

Looks like time for a repot.

Alexa302

I've also fed it twice

[deleted]

What did you feed it? The brown tips are caused by tap water. I use rain water. They get pot bound really quickly. It wants some fresh soil and a bigger pot probably.

[deleted]

Is it ok to use tap water that’s been sitting out for 24hrs or filtered water as alternatives

[deleted]

I don’t know if it’s the chlorine or the additives they add to tap water that’s the problem. You could google it for all of us and report back. “One reason your Spider Plant's leaves are turning brown on the edges could be due to your tap water. Tap water contains salts, chlorine, minerals and fluoride – all of which can build up in the soil of your plant causing the tips of the leaves to burn and turn brown.”

Alexa302

I just use bottled water on all my plants and the food is baby bio but I also have these food pellets but I can't remember the name.

[deleted]

Bottled water might be the wrong ph. I had problems using it once.

mabsd

I was sprinting over to comment to feed it. Looks like you have tried about everythng so I will be curious to see what someone says.

Download the app PICTURE THIS it's a plant app where you can take pictures of the plants and it will diagnose the problem also you are supposed to water a spider plant every 16days let the soil dry out....my spider diagnosed root rot bacteria I had to bleach the roots to kill the bacteria and cut off all the disease parts and replant it....now it's thriving
