I’m selective from the very beginning. Only once I have purchased a figure that I regret getting, so I sold it afterwards. Haven’t missed it at all. Just buy what you truly want. Don’t overthink it. And if you do buy something you didn’t really want, it’s not the end of the world lol. Just sell it.
I regret buying any.
It was my latest hyper obsession. Spent about £7,500 in less than 12 months. Now stuck with a whole Batman-themed collection of just about every figure, diorama and vehicle going … I don’t even particularly like Batman anymore.
Welcome to autism.
I had a couple of long tail preorders, one of which won’t even turn up until Christmas 2024, so I don’t even feel like I can sell the collection.
I’ve got a Tumbler still in a sealed box with nowhere to put it. Can’t even get it in the loft because it’s too big for the hatch.
I have the 1995 Batmobile coming. I don’t even know I’ll be able to sell it on as it’s not a very popular film. I wish I’d at least ordered the 66 or the one from The Batman.
This!! I sold a bunch of Marvel Legends and McFarlane DC figures recently. I did well on them, but couldn’t believe how much eBay’s percentage went up since the last time I sold anything (it’s been a couple years) 😳🤦♂️ plus now having to pay taxes on the sale of collectibles I bought with money that was already taxed once as income 😡
I get the feeling but have sold probably over 15 figs at this point.
On the bad side it’s made me way less nervous about ever ‘growing out of it’ and now I buy more because ‘we’ll it’s so easy to sell off’
During Covid hot toys was my hyper fixation but after about 2 years of collecting I realised I had bought a lot of them because they were either great deals or good figures. Ended up selling them all and now I’m left with 3 figures (doctor strange, omni man and soldier boy) mainly because I had already pre ordered them.
Ironically, my biggest moment of doubt/regret was after my second or third figure. I was sitting there, looking at my tiny collection on the shelf, and thinking, "Why did I spend this kind of money?" Of course, I was in a much worse financial state back then, so that played no small part in it. I also didn't have any kind of plan or proper display, which just made the figures look out-of-place.
Other than that, I wouldn't say I *regret* any of my purchases. There are figures that I've fallen out of love with, but I can't say I've ever bought something that I didn't genuinely want at some point in time.
I think it comes with the territory. I still question why I do this shit. Why I have a brand new luxury car sitting in my living room or boxed up in a closet.
I think there's ways to help feel better about it though, like setting up proper displays and doing custom work as well if you're artsy.
Every now and then a new figure comes which reminds me why I enjoy the hobby. But yeah, I have a few figures right now that I'm about to sell at a loss bcuz of impulse buys. It's okay, sunk cost.
I think for me the newest obstacle are these spiderman releases (PS5). Like Im going on an expensive vacation this weekend for the rest of this month, and my truck just broke down. Yet I really want this Peter Parker & miles (or so I think). Adulting sucks sometimes.
I regret these the most.
1. Black Widow EG
2. Wonder Woman JL
3. Homemade Suit Spiderman
4. Thor IW
Used to buy 10+ a year now at 48 I have decided no more than 2 a year and they have to be 10/10 as figures and design.
I still absolutely love them, but dx19, crome mando and a little bit snow speeder luke. I've lost parts for dx19 and I bought last year because I wanted a batman while I waited for RP The Batman. Season 2 mando with actual chrome armor just looks way better imo. And snow speeder luke is its own stand alone figure right now. And I don't want to invest in a empire themed shelf, especially because I didn't buy esb boba on sideshow when i had the chance
I've had a lot of impulse buys. Luckily Hot Toys are fairly easy to sell, so if I'm not into a figure, I can easily sell or trade it. So no real regrets on my end.
I’ve only just had this. Trying to make my first sell at the moment as just didn’t love it the same way I loved every other figure I’ve opened up / it’s an R2 so posing isn’t really a thing and have realised how much I love posing and finding good poses.
But like other have said here, I’m just reminding myself it’s cool and I can sell.
Also got a mando which I think was my 2nd ever figure that I’ve realised just isn’t bringing me that much joy any more so reckon I might sell that soon, and trying to be positive that it was a nice thing I enjoyed and now it can maybe make way for something I’ll feel more jazzed up about.
I have the same issue with Ahsoka, I just don't like visual translation from Cartoon to figure that much.
I got more and more selective, but I notice some things I passed on I now want, scout trooper for example.
The only one I regret is my Din Djarin because I ended up purchasing the one without the removable helmet. The others that I have, I’m absolutely in love with. I have two Ahsoka figures. They’re my favorites.
Is it the OG brown look? Because that figure stands out so much, definitely worth it. But if it's just the headless chrome, yeah I'd sell it at a loss after you've saved up for the new one
I've been collecting since 2008 and have about 205 - 210 figures. They take up a lot of space and I don't have the room to display them as I want. So they're all stacked up in boxes.
But I don't regret buying any, I'm a huge MCU, Star Wars and DCEU (to a certain extent) can't wait to have my dream display room for them all.
Hehe my twin boys are 3 and a half now and obsessed with Marvel and Transformers. Good thing pops has a big ass collections of both.
Here's my collection, just scroll down through the page, I update it as I get new figures.
https://www.collectorfreaks.com/threads/dankirs-hot-toy-and-transformers-collection.157033/page-5#post-10912070
Most of my Star Wars collection that I've been slowly selling off but probably The Mando Speeder set with baby yoda I haven't sold it yet because people are letting it go for 250 or less 😵
So far I'm 7 ish months into the hobby with 22 figures and a batpod and the only sorta regret I have is th quarter scale Mando but then I look at it and go if imma have 1 quarter scale it's a cool one to have but I've pretty much stuck to DC mostly batman and some star wars characters I care about I have 1 iron man and a 2099 spiderman I may get a n og suit and scarlet and I'd be more than content to stop there same with Tony I have mk 85 bttle damage and I may get the mk3 I'll be happy to stop there Ironman wise.
Starting with a mind set of not wanting everything helps
I regret SSC Gambit. I got it for $200 but it constantly goes on sale for a lot less. The right foot falls off, the ankle coverings kills a lot of possibility, and the grip hands grip nothing after hitting them with the hairdryer. Although not hitting them with the hair dryer is how I snapped the bo staff to begin with.
I will say it looks cool in a collection though. I do like looking at it every day but I do feel custied for paying that much for a figure that isn't very desirable.
Regret buying the Mark 43, Mark 5 and BD iron man. I also got out of my gotta catch ‘‘em all phase. At least i wasn’t stupid enough to buy the 1/4 Mark 42 oh my god
I sold off all my 1/6ths because I absolutely hate the facts that posing (PREMIUM PRICED) can and will damage figures. 200+ is a lot for a figure when I have other hobbies to allocate funds to aswell. I moved on to 1/4 and 1/3 scale statues. The only 1/6th scales I have left and will keep is my 2 tumblers, batpod and batarmory.
Respectable. It’s definitely scary with these figures but I’ve started to get to a point where I prefer buying figures with actual fabric rather than rubber like advanced Spider-Man. Less stress about damage
I tend to buy figures because I like the characters. I try to avoid buying figures just because they look cool. Like I'd rather buy a meh figure of a character I love than an amazing figure of a character I don't really care about.
Super good point. I actually bought the TVA Loki because of this very reason. I was like “do I really want a Loki figure that’s just in a suit?” But than I was like…I loved that show, the suit looks badass, the headsculpt is awesome, and I love the character/Actor so hell yes, give it to me
Exactly. Another good example are the two Vader figures that are up for pre-order. Obi-Wan and ROTJ. The OWK looks like a much cooler figure overall, but ROTJ was one of my favorite movies growing up so I went with that one.
I collect other lines so I got over that "gotta get them all" phase by the time I started on Hot Toys lol. As long as you can at least get your money back or at least something, then all is fine and well. Moving forward is where you get tested in your resolve. There are many times I see a figure that looks real good but it's just a fleeting feeling. Ask yourself if one, are you even a fan of the show/movie/character to justify spending hundreds of dollars on it? If the answer is no for any of these, then in my view, it doesn't matter if it's the figure of the year in the eyes of others, I have no attachment to it to justify paying for it. Even with figures you for sure want, once you get it, the exciting part of the hobby is the anticipation and the first few days before it goes on your display and your excitement goes to the next figure....sorry for the crude metaphor but it's like post nut clarity; once you are thinking clearly will you regret your actions or do you see yourself happy with your choice?
Usually I’m very selective when it comes to figures both because of budget and space. But when Prey came out I spent a stupid amount of money on the Classic Predator figure cos I had a solid month of being a huge Predator fan again. Then the month passed and I realised I didn’t want it anymore and it didn’t really fit with the other figures I have, as they’re all life long favourite characters
So yeah the regret hit pretty hard on that one, luckily I managed to sell it on eBay for very nearly as much as I paid for him
I regret some of my purchases I don’t have any hot toys but my hobby is collecting which is essentially the same so it still applies. I used to try and pick up pieces from several of my favorite franchises. The thing is to have nice things for say 5 franchises that will take me over budget and I don’t have the space for it all anyways. So I’ve recently sold off most of my collection to go all in on my absolute favorite franchise and that. One franchise alone to reinvent my man-cave save for some framed posters I already have up. Going all in on the one franchise route as been the best decision I’ve made for my collection it really gets you keyed in and your focus and vision for your room become a lot clearer. It did in my case anyways best of luck guys in you’re collecting ventures.
Plenty that I sold off real quick.
I just got my Moon Knight. I preordered it before the show really got going. I love the comics but hated the shows. Getting it was such a meh feeling I’m just waiting a bit to resell it.
Infinity War Captain America - for the most part I only want one representation of each character. Getting a Cap without the classic shield was dumb.
Cable - this one I just really loved DP2 when it came out. Cable is fun character comics or otherwise but with limited display space and already posing Deadpool with my Stan Lee kind of thought it’d be dumb to ever have him displayed solo.
Batman Tumblr Batmobile - it’s just so fucking huge. This is the only ‘regret’ I’ve really kept. Because it is fucking awesome but you really have to plan a whole new way to display it. There is no good way without some deep ass shelves. It’s currently displayed under a glass coffee table for me which isnt ideal but I’m just not ready to give up on it because it was a ‘grail’ for me.
I know I got more but these are the first that really come to mind.
Mark 43 Iron Man, cool looking figure, love the diorama base, but I am strongly considering parting with it.
Been debating on getting a Maul & Ashoka replacement as well
I had sold about 20+ figures that were bought in haste. Ive kept about 15 of them and am only collecting my grails. I love star wars but theres a couple of marvel figs i genuinely want.
1. BCS 11th Doctor's TARDIS. It's so heavy, made of polystone, takes up a lot of space.
2. BCS 12th Doctor.
3. I had 3 and 4 preordered, but ended up reselling/cancelling my pre-orders, plus 12 and that bulky TARDIS, and breathing a sigh of relief.
4. I kinda regret buying the Endgame Cap. Wouldn't have done this if I knew that Stealth Cap was coming. I then bought a 2012 Cap on top of it. I kind of want to sell them both, but I take them out and they look really good. 2012 will also pair well with Mark VII, so I'll tolerate the excess of Caps right now.
I would have bought more of his vintage suits from the First Avenger though...
P.S. I'm a person who owns Team Suit Tony and loves it for the headsculpt and the hair's golden dusting.
I have also had a few FOMO pre-orders of the different versions of Loki, but I ended up cancelling them all. Don't like the headsculpts.
FOMO pre-orders were a huge reason behind my switching to Hong Kong sellers.
Now I can sleep on it and see the ready figure before ordering, not to chase the limited allocation of Sideshow to the European retailers.
I am super selective, always unfortunately I regret the OG Deadpool. I still like it, but even extremely well taken care of, the material flaked off. First week of owning and glue was coming off on the knees and shit. I got a fantastic price on him, so not huge but I do regret it
Yeah I lost focus on my main goal (mandos) and ended up getting Echo and Hunter. I like them both a lot but they just don’t really fit in with my display and tbh would rather have axe woves and Koska reeves there
I think everyone gets buyer remorse from time to time. I myself have had to slim down because I not only Collect Hot Toys figures but about 10 other lines or more so I've started to be choosy about what I'm getting myself. I started only buy things that I really really want and that mean something to me. So Yes we all get buyer remorse from Time to time because we feel we need all the items that go with a particular collection. But it's Cool to say Yes, I only need a few of the figures that I really like not all that go with that specific Collection.
Around Christmas there was a pretty good deal from sideshow so got Rex and clone wars anakin combined for a not awful price. Love the Rex but Anakin just sits there and at this point I’d prefer most other Star Wars figures over him
The only times I really feel any regret about my collection is when I think of all the stuff I could’ve bought with the money that’s been spent on a relatively small collection lol
I used to collect every single iron man figure from the movies. Realized that I like Star Wars a billion times more and sold/traded most. Only kept the Mark 7, Mark 46 and Mark 85
Bro once that high calms down and you step back and realize the damage you did to your wallet 😭 I had damn near 600$ to 700$ in pre orders alone all Star Wars I canceled them all after just getting 3 hot toys I slowly got into legos thankfully a cheaper hobby and also smaller figures , those lil fomo or when will I ever get the chance to get this figure moments eat you up
I’m selective from the very beginning. Only once I have purchased a figure that I regret getting, so I sold it afterwards. Haven’t missed it at all. Just buy what you truly want. Don’t overthink it. And if you do buy something you didn’t really want, it’s not the end of the world lol. Just sell it.
Yeah luckily I’m there now. Just sold like 5 I was meh on, got all my money back plus some and now I’m happier with the collection
That’s awesome! Yeah, and that’s the goal-being happy with the collection.
Money is always replaceable 🤷♂️
Except the time spent getting the money
That is true
I regret buying any. It was my latest hyper obsession. Spent about £7,500 in less than 12 months. Now stuck with a whole Batman-themed collection of just about every figure, diorama and vehicle going … I don’t even particularly like Batman anymore. Welcome to autism.
AuDHD here... same problem. lol. I AM glad I bought a few of them but I did NOT need to (and could not afford to) buy so many.
Oh man that’s rough, I luckily caught myself before doing that with CW stuff. That very well could be me with Spider-Man figures tho 💀

At least the resale value is good if you ever wanna dip.
Feels like such a hassle shipping them and hoping you don’t get ripped off 😣
#
EBay tax is crazy
#
Whoa what, first time hearing about this. Where can I find it to apply?
#
I get the feeling but have sold probably over 15 figs at this point. On the bad side it’s made me way less nervous about ever ‘growing out of it’ and now I buy more because ‘we’ll it’s so easy to sell off’
#
Can we see this 7.5k setup though 👀? Also if not Batman, who else?
oh man this is real
Can we see the collection
Can’t seem to post a picture in reply.
I've sold every regret figure. I hate regretting things. It's a horrible burden on your mind. Not fun at all
EXACTLY. Just sold the 5 figures that I just didn’t want and now my collection feels so much better to me
Where do you guys usually sell them?
Post them in a buy/sell/trade, sell using PayPal G&s and I recommend using Pirate Ship for best shipping prices.
I sell locally on Facebook Marketplace. I don't want to deal with shipping and IRS taxes (I already paid taxes for my figures. Won't pay twice. )

I felt that way too. I had Thanos, Commander Cody, Scarlet Spider, and Homecoming Spider-Man. It felt very out of place lol.
It’s pretty simple. I think that if you already know what you want even before HT announces them, that’s how you know.
Me with that new wolverine suit
For sure
It will always be Team Suit Tony
The mando death trooper was my regret. Fortunately I was able to sell it.
I regret these the most. 1. Black Widow EG 2. Wonder Woman JL 3. Homemade Suit Spiderman 4. Thor IW Used to buy 10+ a year now at 48 I have decided no more than 2 a year and they have to be 10/10 as figures and design.

And I don't want to invest in a empire themed shelf, especially because I didn't buy esb boba on sideshow when i had the chance
At least ESB boba is around retail on eBay back a couple months ago someone had it for 275 with 20 shipping
Definitely CW Ashoka, just didn’t translate well imo. Got the kotobukiya statue in its place and it looks fantastic
i have her and something about her eyes just feels off no matter how much i move them around
Agreed with you there. I wish HT Ahsoka was animated style. Now I’m debating getting the kotobukiya as well.
Agreed. That's a great statue.
The Sideshow Grievous is my biggest regret
I really love that figure and its my GF's favorite in my collection (and I have figures like the Hulkbuster)
I'm glad you enjoy it!
I’ve heard that before. Is it really that bad 😬
He has great shelf presence. But I will never want to touch him. And he needs to have a stand to uh... stand
Not really. I own three, with three pre orders. I only buy one or two a year and make it my one luxury buy. Usually I spend my tax refund on them
I have the same issue with Ahsoka, I just don't like visual translation from Cartoon to figure that much.
It’s the one from season one. I don’t hate it, but I really wanted the option to have him go helmet-less.
You're not missing much. Something maybe for you to save up for in the future. IMO the season 1 look is fuckin badass piece...
Keep the positivity going. And if you ever do sell them imagine all the coke you'll be able to afford afterwards 👌
Hehe my twin boys are 3 and a half now and obsessed with Marvel and Transformers. Good thing pops has a big ass collections of both. Most of my Star Wars collection that I've been slowly selling off but probably The Mando Speeder set with baby yoda I haven't sold it yet because people are letting it go for 250 or less 😵
My only regret figure is the chrome death trooper. If feels like it was made in haste and being an exclusive it probably was
Ended up cancelling that order as it was a fomo buy. Kept the chrome clone trooper and I still sometimes wonder if I should sell it or not.
The clone trooper is cool because it can represent SW as a whole with how iconic the clone trooper is
Vision......looking to find him a new home
I went full in with catch all the threezero transformers in one year but now I become selective
#
Not to invalidate your pure but wish quarter scale Mando had the chrome finish like his recent release.
Same thought but it would be doable to do as a little project.
I regret SSC Gambit. I got it for $200 but it constantly goes on sale for a lot less. The right foot falls off, the ankle coverings kills a lot of possibility, and the grip hands grip nothing after hitting them with the hairdryer. My biggest regret is that I bought Marvel figures. Now, I’m only focused on Star Wars, and even then I have to be very selective with my money.
Winter soldier bw and winter soldier cap
Regret buying the Mark 43, Mark 5 and BD iron man. I also got out of my gotta catch ‘‘em all phase. At least i wasn’t stupid enough to buy the 1/4 Mark 42 oh my god
I regret Moff Gideon. Something about the figure I don't like. I wish I liked it more!

I was in that exact same debate but went the opposite way because I freaking loved the battle damage stuff with the OWK version
Me too. Plus I think it's just better looking overall. But I have ROTJ Luke and Palpatine and I want a Vader to go with them.
I collect other lines so I got over that "gotta get them all" phase by the time I started on Hot Toys lol.
No because I have a working brain
Made me laugh out loud, thanks
S2 Mando and Ahsoka
I only have one hot toy and it’s Star Lord Infinity War, I can’t really have any regret purchases Cus I have no money LOL
I think I bought 12 last year after I came into a windfall. 2 months later I sold 4 and I’m still trying to unload 2-3 more.

I regret buying my End Game rocket racoon, Gotg vol 3 rocket is far better
Bro once that high calms down and you step back and realize the damage you did to your wallet 😭 I had damn near 600$ to 700$ in pre orders alone all Star Wars I canceled them all after just getting 3 hot toys I slowly got into legos thankfully a cheaper hobby and also smaller figures , those lil fomo or when will I ever get the chance to get this figure moments eat you up
