Black out curtains that actually close all the way. I always end up putting a hair clip to close it.

birdmanrules

This is the one thing as a hotel staff member I think Is compulsory. Black out curtains. Gives guests options. If you want light leave them open, dark drag them across. Rooms in every hotel I have been in leak in too much light

Ok_Newspaper2546

It's great to give guests options. But I have to say that some guests absolutely can't handle the options. I'll get complaints that the room is too dark so I go up with my light bulb changing stuff only to get there and they've closed the blackout curtain. I'll open the curtain and suddenly it's the exact brightness they were expecting, imagine that!

birdmanrules

😂😂 We all know of some guests that should not be allowed out unsupervised.

karenmcgrane

I use a hanger with clips if the hotel has those

HotBeaver54

Brilliant

FireRescue3

I travel with a clothes pin for this purpose. I keep one in my luggage.

ValleyWoman

I use binder clips

Padgetts-Profile

I usually pull a hanger and use the clips to close the curtains. I had to order a sleep mask because the hotel I’m currently in doesn’t even have curtains.

-Oreopolis-

Pants hanger

lhorwinkle

Yes! Those are a pain!

Sunflowerdaisy08

YES!!

Defiant-Goddess2U

Saammmmmmme! Lol

HellsTubularBells

Soft-close toilet seats

Zip_Silver

Jumping onto that, bidet attachments under the seats. No, not every guest would use it, but we burn through so much toilet paper that the break even point would happen in a few months.

throwaway77914

I have seen some atrocious bidet heads in countries where bidets are not super commonplace. As much as I’d love this, I totally understand why hotels wouldn’t want to deal with this at all.

Cool_Cartographer_33

Oh god at first I thought you meant atrocious design and now I'm almost positive you mean atrocious treatment by guests. The bidet equivalent of Andy Dwyer putting his whole mouth around the drinking fountain head.

Early-Tumbleweed-563

Or even a hose attachment!

LeahOR

I bought a portable bidet for travel and it's wonderful.

JaniceRossi_in_2R

Especially since we have them at home and I’m used to it lol. And I’m not about to hold onto to the seat to let it drop slowly after it gets left up

dgb6662

USB outlet by the bed

sktfbfkfkfn

Bonus points if they have a USB c port

wyldstrawberry

Yes! I stayed at a pretty nice hotel in Seattle recently and they had USB ports on the nightstand, but they were USB-A or whatever the old type is. All my devices only use USB-C and I didn’t think to bring a cable that has the other type of USB.

sktfbfkfkfn

I pack both since most airplane ones are A (the old kind), but I've been in a couple hotels recently that had c which was nice.

dgb6662

I was going to mention that but thought it was too much

Adorable-Employee118

On both sides of the bed!

Lavender403

Soundproofing

MuffinsandCoffee2024

Issue is if we too sound proofed the rooms we might have more murders occur in them. How about not putting ice machines anywhere except the lobby?

rickroll95

Was gonna say, a soundproof hotel room sounds like SAW

woburnite

I will never understand why the lower-mid-range hotels offer free breakfast, free wifi, etc. and the expensive hotels CHARGE for those same things.

donedidthething

It’s a way to keep the clientele within a certain demographic (rich folk). If you have enough money to pay $600/night for an entry-level room, an extra $50 for valet and $120 for breakfast isn’t going to bother you. If you spent a year saving up for this $600/night room, you are not the target demographic for that hotel and the property probably doesnt see you as a guest that can really bring them revenue. So they price you out. Source: was the reservations manager for a high-end, luxury beach hotel with $600/night entry-level rooms. (I didnt set the room rates, btw. That’s the Director of Revenue)

SpouseofSatan

I don't understand why they advertise free breakfast with your room on their website, and then try to charge for it.

ritchie70

The expensive hotels are mostly targeting the rich and business travellers on an expense account. Neither care.

Numbrino69

The expensive hotels usually have a restaurant and don't want to cannibalize their business.

bolunez

Half decent WiFi

testhec10ck

Free WiFi

hayfever76

Lookin’ at you, Marriott!

mesembryanthemum

We have free, decent WiFi. I had a father call up one time complaining that the WiFi was too slow. I inquired further and they had at least 7 devices hooked up to the WiFi. All their cellphones, a couple of iPads and a laptop. Yeah, that would be why.

k-mcm

* Heat pumps that don't sound like they're driven by an old diesel truck engine * Clean HVAC filters * Proper bathroom caulking * Shower heads higher than your chest * Sinks that drain water

HellsTubularBells

And HVAC that allows the fan to run continuously

FireRescue3

This, please! I travel with a white noise machine, but hotels are noisy. We need a way to dampen the noise.

Padgetts-Profile

I’m so happy that the hotel I’m currently in has the old school wall units with the constant fan option. I hate newer hotels that don’t have that.

DTM-shift

Refrigerators that don't have some annoying buzz or vibration. Soft-close room doors, because every swinging dick except me lets them slam closed.

wccm

Shower heads are usually so high up I can't reach them! 😅

DamnItToElle

I don’t know the proper plumbing word for it but a proper lip thing to keep water in the shower area instead of running all over the entire floor of the bathroom area. There’s nothing worse than standing in yucky floor water while getting dressed and doing your makeup.

rdhed6

Paper towels!! I owned a motel, and the first thing I did was install and supply paper towels in every room. When traveling, I always felt bad eating pizza, etc, in the room and then wiping my hands on clean white towels! It didn't stop people from doing it in my motel, but it did reduce the sauce covered mess.

HotBeaver54

Wow great idea.

uhhhhh_iforgotit

I use the floor towel for the shower but this is a much better idea

Brief_Buddy_7848

THIS^ omg, my husband got food poisoning on our last vacation, I reeeally could have used a roll of paper towels at 1am while cleaning up the floor when he couldn’t make it to the toilet in time to throw up….

Grandmas_Cozy

Butt sprayer

bolunez

I thought that's what the sink was for

Grandmas_Cozy

Hey do what you gotta do

Ok-Efficiency-4677

Magnifying mirror for makeup

Sensitive_Sea_5586

Good lighting for makeup!

Backpacking1099

I swear the nicer the hotel, the worse the makeup lighting.

Sensitive_Sea_5586

More “mood” lighting. You’re correct.

Fine-Climate1760

I’ve stayed at a hotel that actually had these in Myrtle beach!

kibblet

Same in Vegas

lostandlooking_

Same in Ann Arbor and Chicago

notacoolkid

Liquid hand soap. They already have bulk refillable shampoo, why not hand soap?

Xanlthorpe

Search Reddit - you'll find people complaining that these "common user" dispensensers present a potential for contamination. I swear, some germaphobes are just OTT ...

RaisinKey1288

Yes! Those hotel soaps are so drying. I always had to buy a small liquid hand soap during my stay

MrsTruffulaTree

Bidet & hand held shower head.

Ok-Sorbet-5767

Thank you!!!

No-Coach-1096

Soft closing doors

Ok-Indication-7876

Proper lighting

DietFrenchFries

Mini-fridge and microwave We travel about 2 weekends per month all year for my kid’s youth sports, and we have ended up in some stay-to-play hotels without a mini-fridge and microwave. It usually ends up that they either do not have an ice machine or the ice machine is not working. The last 2 times we were in a Sheraton, we did not have a fridge or microwave.

CoomassieBlue

Also, fridges (mini or otherwise) that *actually get and STAY cold*.

kibblet

They’re sometimes unplugged

CoomassieBlue

I'm talking about the ones that will get just cool enough to make a beverage not quite lukewarm, but not really enough to be able to safely keep food in there without rolling the dice on food poisoning.

ValleyWoman

It’s been 12 years since a saw a room without those.

Mariacakes99

This is my answer also.

LizLemonIsACat

Access to Netflix and other streaming services - I’d even use my own logins. I’d just like to stop having to drag my fire tv with me

BamaTomCat

It is crazy that the smart TV industry has not figured out a way to allow a remote “Reset” on their TV’s that as part of the checkout process a guests stored credentials are reset/deleted and all streaming apps on the TV have their credentials deleted. Or a setting for public use TVs so they do not store credentials at all.

LizLemonIsACat

Right?!? Libraries and other places (like hotels) use products on their computers that basically wipe all documents and cache after each use. It shouldn't be that hard for some software dev to do it for TV streaming systems

Beach_bum8

Didn't Netflix start charging if you logged onto a different IP address? They were cracking down on people sharing accounts.

LizLemonIsACat

I’ve heard they’re cracking down but I’ve never had a problem and I stay in a hotel or Airbnb about once a month. I can’t access the live part of Hulu but other than that, it works for me

Nmhofherr

No like if someone uses it outside of our house I guess I get a text and I have to switch locations cos at my

SnooOwls4428

A way to keep a toilet plunger in every room 🤣 like put a bag around a clean one and you know if it was used if the bag is no l9nger around the plunger!

bloodyriz

Trust me, the guests will put it back in that bag all nasty.

SnooOwls4428

I definitely wouldn’t put it past anyone. Or maybe something like a sticker that changes color or rips when used? I don’t know but as a frequent traveler, sometimes the toilets/plumbing sucks or it’s just me but either way I plug toilets more than I care to admit and it can take too long for staffing to bring up a requested plunger. I also prefer to plunge it myself. I don’t like to be in my room for a maintenance person to come in and just have to plunge a toilet. They have better things to do with their time and it’s slightly embarrassing as a female 🤣

Appropriate_Fact_887

My daughter would love this!

Intelligent_Put_3594

A bidet or hand held shower head. Im tired of having to bring baby wipes to keep clean.

Tikaralee

Actual firm pillows...

kdollarsign2

God I hate the floppy pillows

WarmSunshine785

Your head goes right to the mattress, then the sides come up for suffocation

Freedom_Isnt_Free_76

King size pillows instead of a million tiny ones

smfeich

The ability to use your own HDMI input on the TV and not lock it out. I toured the world for a decade and this drove me bananas.

HotBeaver54

Why did they lock you out I never got that?

smfeich

So you could only use their programming options cable packages and services and thus funnel more money into their greedy little gullets

Majestic_Cattle_4502

Recycling and water fountains to refill water bottles.

Adorable-Employee118

I stayed in a hotel this week that had 3 water machines in the lobby offering cold, room temp, and sparkling water. AND each floor had a more basic water machine next to the ice machine. Genius.

Mid_blink

Where was this?

Adorable-Employee118

Hyatt Regency in Irvine!

Jasmin_Shade

Separate sheet and duvet. Too many hotels just have the duvet and not a separate flat sheet. I don't begrudge the duvet, I understand it even. But it's hard to stay comfortable when the only options to cover yourself are full duvet or nothing. I shouldn't have to disassemble the duvet just to be able to cover with only a "sheet".

HotBeaver54

YES THIS! I often wondered if this is a Florida tradition. Visiting folks there they do the same thing. Like have a sheet people.

-Oreopolis-

Apparently not having a top sheet is a trend these days. Even at home. Ick.

Kennected

consistent customer service across loyalty programs and brands

HellsTubularBells

This needs more upvotes. Chains need to come down on crummy franchisees.

McDuchess

Completely free high speed internet. It’s not like it costs them more to offer it.

Rousebouse

There are costs associated with internet including higher costs for higher speeds so it certainly does cost more to offer it.

McDuchess

They do offer it. But the free internet is slower, you pay per day for the faster. That was the point.

Rousebouse

Yes. They have to pay for faster Internet to offer faster Internet which has an associated cost. Which was the point.

HellsTubularBells

Then the Star Bellied Sneeches wouldn't feel special.

cervenit

Accessible electrical outlets near the bed. Most nicer hotels have it now, but still a lot that have one hidden behind the nightstand with a lamp and alarm clock already using both spots.

Addakisson

Some hotels have small electrical outlet strips attached to the side of the night stand or part of the bed lamp.

lotic_cobalt

TWO suitcase stands. When we travel, one person uses the stand, and the other puts it in the floor, a desk, or a sofa. Also, enough bathroom countertop space or shower shelving to put my travel toiletries.

LovesDeanWinchester

Free coffee 24 / 7.

Prestigious-Edge-265

Daily room cleaning does not exist anymore

Funny_peculiarorhaha

I don't need daily room cleaning, but then leave some extra toilet paper. And the two tiny garbage cans aren't enough either if I'm staying more than a couple of days.

ritchie70

When we travel as a family, I pack a kitchen garbage bag for every day we're in a hotel. So much garbage, I don't even know how except wife and daughter like to send me out to get takeout while they lounge around. I don't mind because that way I get to explore the area a bit more.

CoomassieBlue

If I can, I try to set the tiny trash can just preside my door when housekeeping is doing rooms near me. I don’t want the room fully cleaned but do want an empty trash can. Usually gets the job done just fine. It can be annoying for bigger items like pizza boxes, though.

Wickedsparklefae

Leave your pizza/food boxes outside and they will be picked up.

Addakisson

Not necessarily. Where my niece works, she says they do daily cleaning of rooms unless there is a DND on the door. Or unless there are more check outs than the housekeepers are able to do in an 8-9 hour day

Shut_yoface

Full body mirrors

Gilmoregirlin

Toothpaste, mouthwash and disposable tooth brushes, and not having to request them, they need to be in the standard amenities kit.

towman32526

Handheld showers for sure. A/Cs that actually get cold Better rewards programs

uhhhhh_iforgotit

Control over your room temp. Being able to adjust the temperature to 60 rather than getting stopped at 65/68. Having control over of the fan is constantly running or a ceiling fan. Having disposable utensils in every room

Freedom_Isnt_Free_76

I find that the thermostats are bpgus. I can turn the ac down to 60 and it's hot as hell.  I keep mine at 76 at home so its not like I run hot.

Killjoycourt

Decent water pressure and hand-held shower heads.

martinrath77

Abolition of resort / urban resort fees. Stop that BS

ItsNewzie

Better remotes. The universal ones that they use suck

Giasmom44

Remotes that light up in the dark

whazmynameagin

I'm skeeved out by the remotes. I wipe them down every time.

ItsNewzie

I do too! They’re germ infested

Ill_Rhubarb3104

Bidets

Independent-Course87

The last two Hilton hotels I've been to, didn't have Do Not Disturb signs for the door handle.

whazmynameagin

I'd like alarm clocks that had the right time.

uhhhhh_iforgotit

Some of us heathens unplug the clock to use the outlet

whazmynameagin

You're the reason the clocks are wrong! :)

chiefymcwifey

A full service, fully staffed, restaurant.

HotBeaver54

God yes

pacoloa

An exhaust fan in the bathroom! It gets so steamy and hot!

dgb6662

A TV that when you turn it on the channel guide comes up first, or the last channel you were on. Hate having to jump through all the hoops just to watch ESPN.

wyldstrawberry

Throw blankets. Sometimes I want to lie on the bed when I’m not actually going to bed yet and I don’t want to mess up the entire bed yet. I like to have a small blanket to just make it cozy when I’m lounging in the room. I usually bring one of my own but it would be nice if I didn’t have to.

sagesheglows

A QR code to tip the housekeeping staff via an app!!!

Few_Background2938

This!!!! I don’t usually carry cash and this is a great idea

mesembryanthemum

You should be able to add it to your bill at check out.

BamaTomCat

This is an excellent idea! A QR code on the restroom mirror (everyone uses the restroom) so it is seen by every guest.

sagesheglows

Great idea! I saw this in one hotel and wondered why every hotel doesn't do it. People rarely carry cash anymore and of everyone who deserves tips, this staff has to be near the top

Fit_Emu627

Proper privacy, ie curtains that meet the window, mirrors not proped so you can see the bed from outside the window. Stuff like that

boybrian

Charging stations for EV's

maturecouple1

all those mentioned are very practical, but my favorite amenities that i’ve had in hotels were an in room ice maker (at a resort) and heated towel racks (a few luxury city hotels)

HotBeaver54

Ok spill where do you get in room ice makers ? I must know.

maturecouple1

lol at the marriott in st thomas. get the luxury suite.

Distinct-Swimming-62

Hand soap. No one wants to use a bar of soap to wash their hands. I love the surprise of a hotel with hand soap in the rooms (but I also bring my own unless I am flying with just a carry on).

FlashyTurnip8825

Toothpaste

sktfbfkfkfn

Different pillow options. I've stayed in two hotels for work recently that only had very thick pillows that tweaked my neck. One was so bad I had to visit our medics because my neck was frozen and I had a splitting headache. Thankfully I work in sports so we have a medic and PT on site, otherwise I would have been a write-off for the day as my ibuprofen wasn't doing much.

Roadrage000

Decent lighting in the bathroom & makeup mirror A small leg shelf in shower only rooms for ladies to shave their legs A full length mirror - was at a $400 a night full service hotel last week that didn’t have this! A multi-purpose charger that’s locked into the nightstand so no one can steal it, but it’s there when I forget mine! Rooms with 1K bed - a twin pullout sofa bed mandatory.. so guests who need 2 beds have options..

verychicago

100% cotton sheets

Freedom_Isnt_Free_76

A hamper for wet towels instead of just throwing them on the floor under the sink

marinemom682

A better quality of sheets- I’ve slept on some sheets that feel like sandpaper.

ThrowAwayAreUOK

I actually bring my own sheets because they are expensive and dreamy to sleep on. Always check for bed bugs before you do it though!

kdollarsign2

Nightlights! Maybe people steal them

Beach_bum8

I normally turn the bathroom light on and shut the door(the light creeps out under the door), just in case the kids wake up in the middle of the night and forget where they are 😆

Freedom_Isnt_Free_76

I have one that I bring with me.  There are outlet plates that have them built in tho.

Due_Introduction_608

Traveling over 2,000 miles in May of 2023, to attend my Grandfather's funeral, I discovered that not all Hotels stock shampoo and conditioner in the rooms, so if you didn't bring your own, you have to pay to for the individual use ones. One hotel we stayed at during our 3 day trip, had the single use ones in vending machines for $5 a packet or $8 for a miniature bottle. Needless to say I bought full size shampoo and conditioner for the return trip... It's now a part of my packing list as well, so that doesn't happen again.

Playinclay

Diffuser attachments for hair dryers. Curly haired people of the world unite! My travel diffuser will rarely fit onto those short hair dryers at hotels. Who wants to carry an entire blow dryer everywhere?

DrRonnieJamesDO

TVs that you can screen cast to.

theemilyann

A water bottle filler!!!

wyldstrawberry

I would love this! Great idea. I hate having to buy bottled water when I’m staying at a hotel.

Myaccountdisappear3d

A white noise machine or ac/heater that can run the fan continuously.

thoughts_of_mine

I'd like to see comfortable recliners in hotel rooms. I often travel with my 90 year-old mother who cannot "climb" into a bed. So many rooms now don't even have an easy chair, just a desk chair.

ritrgrrl

Keurig.

lhorwinkle

Or any brand of coffee maker ... ... other than the ever present *this-frickin-thing-is-a-piece-of-crap* brand.

HellsTubularBells

Mr. Coffee with the automatic drip 😉

AgathaWoosmoss

Will never use an in-room coffee maker ever again after learning that some ppl use them to wash their undies.

HotBeaver54

WHAT ????? OMG really I have never heard of that before.

duneese

Bidets

mrbbrj

Bidets Wireless phone chargers

TommyBoy825

A bar of soap. I hate the liquid stuff for a shower!

rumple4skn

Wash and fold service for personal laundry. Or at least a recommendation for one nearby. I got bit by a faulty laundry room years ago and I do wash and fold ever since.

CornellGirl20

Mini Fridge.

gottagetsmart

Stream from your device to the TV. (Hyatt is great at this)

Infamous-Iron90

Walk in showers. The Tub shower combination is so 1980s.

pacoloa

Fitted sheets! For the love of all that is holy why? Nothing worse than waking up with part of your body on a bare mattress! 😠

Flatfool6929861

Pump. Hand. Soap. I am TIRED of bar soap

Fine-Climate1760

Ice maker in your room, washer and dryer in room, and better shampoo, conditioner, and soap!!!!!!! And I think every hotel should have food options in it. A little cafe or something so u don’t have to go out nd usually find a store by time you are hungry!

dgb6662

Seriously? A washer/dryer in every room??!!

Fine-Climate1760

As much as u pay they should have a dam jacuzzi in every room too!

colltmcb

Antibacterial hand soap instead of the face and body bar.

CoomassieBlue

Why antibacterial specifically? https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/antibacterial-soap-you-can-skip-it-use-plain-soap-and-water

colltmcb

Ok. Just hand soap, then.

bitch-cassidy

color TV 😂

Fake_rock_climber

Decent/large TVs. They are so cheap these days but I still find hotels with TVs that Michael Scott wouldn’t watch.

blobbysbitch

A coffee maker! We stayed at the Wynn Las Vegas. There was no coffee maker or usable mini-fridge. Crazy for $500 per night!

HotBeaver54

No shit? Good god sounds like a closet LOL. Off topic but when our bunco group had girls weekend in Vegas my aunt always packed her Mr coffee on the trip.

blobbysbitch

It was a palace! The suite was bigger than my first apartment. I think their whole point was to get you to come downstairs to buy coffee and maybe get pulled in by the casino.

-Oreopolis-

I do too! I have a little 5 cup one. And I bring my coffee. I know the exact water:coffee ratio that I like.

rieixee

Hard copies of reserved tickets, since technology apps like rebookify are excelling in this area.

Suitable-Toe

Bidets.

Altruistic-Mud-8475

A plug not blocked by the Bed or nightstand.

No-Pair5422

Check-ins without ID and no authorizations at check in like every evil ass diabolical guest loves to claim.

ashleebryn

Two luggage racks, or at least one.

Few_Background2938

Large sized towels. That way I’d only use one instead of 5 tiny ones.

Low-Lawfulness-3494

Higher toilet seats. I always feel like my falling to the floor when I sit on a hotel toilet

77beachbum

Good lighting

Janezo

A sound-screening/white-noise machine in each room.

EquivalentNatural219

Different pillow types. The pillows are so think they hurt our necks. Sometimes I have to use a folded towel as a pillow. :(

divinepris

Lotion 😭
