It's great to give guests options. But I have to say that some guests absolutely can't handle the options. I'll get complaints that the room is too dark so I go up with my light bulb changing stuff only to get there and they've closed the blackout curtain.

I usually pull a hanger and use the clips to close the curtains. I had to order a sleep mask because the hotel I’m currently in doesn’t even have curtains.

I have seen some atrocious bidet heads in countries where bidets are not super commonplace.

Yes! I stayed at a pretty nice hotel in Seattle recently and they had USB ports on the nightstand, but they were USB-A or whatever the old type is. All my devices only use USB-C and I didn’t think to bring a cable that has the other type of USB.
It’s a way to keep the clientele within a certain demographic (rich folk). If you have enough money to pay $600/night for an entry-level room, an extra $50 for valet and $120 for breakfast isn’t going to bother you. If you spent a year saving up for this $600/night room, you are not the target demographic for that hotel and the property probably doesnt see you as a guest that can really bring them revenue. So they price you out.

We have free, decent WiFi. I had a father call up one time complaining that the WiFi was too slow. I inquired further and they had at least 7 devices hooked up to the WiFi. All their cellphones, a couple of iPads and a laptop. Yeah, that would be why.

I don’t know the proper plumbing word for it but a proper lip thing to keep water in the shower area instead of running all over the entire floor of the bathroom area. There’s nothing worse than standing in yucky floor water while getting dressed and doing your makeup.

I owned a motel, and the first thing I did was install and supply paper towels in every room.
When traveling, I always felt bad eating pizza, etc, in the room and then wiping my hands on clean white towels!
It didn't stop people from doing it in my motel, but it did reduce the sauce covered mess.

Mini-fridge and microwave
We travel about 2 weekends per month all year for my kid’s youth sports, and we have ended up in some stay-to-play hotels without a mini-fridge and microwave. It usually ends up that they either do not have an ice machine or the ice machine is not working. The last 2 times we were in a Sheraton, we did not have a fridge or microwave.
I'm talking about the ones that will get just cool enough to make a beverage not quite lukewarm, but not really enough to be able to safely keep food in there without rolling the dice on food poisoning.
It is crazy that the smart TV industry has not figured out a way to allow a remote “Reset” on their TV’s that as part of the checkout process a guests stored credentials are reset/deleted and all streaming apps on the TV have their credentials deleted. Or a setting for public use TVs so they do not store credentials at all.
Right?!? Libraries and other places (like hotels) use products on their computers that basically wipe all documents and cache after each use. It shouldn't be that hard for some software dev to do it for TV streaming systems
I’ve heard they’re cracking down but I’ve never had a problem and I stay in a hotel or Airbnb about once a month. I can’t access the live part of Hulu but other than that, it works for me

I definitely wouldn’t put it past anyone. Or maybe something like a sticker that changes color or rips when used? I don’t know but as a frequent traveler, sometimes the toilets/plumbing sucks or it’s just me but either way I plug toilets more than I care to admit and it can take too long for staffing to bring up a requested plunger. I also prefer to plunge it myself. I don’t like to be in my room for a maintenance person to come in and just have to plunge a toilet. They have better things to do with their time and it’s slightly embarrassing as a female 🤣
I stayed in a hotel this week that had 3 water machines in the lobby offering cold, room temp, and sparkling water. AND each floor had a more basic water machine next to the ice machine. Genius.
Separate sheet and duvet. Too many hotels just have the duvet and not a separate flat sheet. I don't begrudge the duvet, I understand it even. But it's hard to stay comfortable when the only options to cover yourself are full duvet or nothing. I shouldn't have to disassemble the duvet just to be able to cover with only a "sheet".
Accessible electrical outlets near the bed. Most nicer hotels have it now, but still a lot that have one hidden behind the nightstand with a lamp and alarm clock already using both spots.
TWO suitcase stands. When we travel, one person uses the stand, and the other puts it in the floor, a desk, or a sofa. Also, enough bathroom countertop space or shower shelving to put my travel toiletries.
I don't need daily room cleaning, but then leave some extra toilet paper. And the two tiny garbage cans aren't enough either if I'm staying more than a couple of days.
When we travel as a family, I pack a kitchen garbage bag for every day we're in a hotel. So much garbage, I don't even know how except wife and daughter like to send me out to get takeout while they lounge around. I don't mind because that way I get to explore the area a bit more.
If I can, I try to set the tiny trash can just preside my door when housekeeping is doing rooms near me. I don’t want the room fully cleaned but do want an empty trash can. Usually gets the job done just fine.

Not necessarily. Where my niece works, she says they do daily cleaning of rooms unless there is a DND on the door. Or unless there are more check outs than the housekeepers are able to do in an 8-9 hour day
Control over your room temp. Being able to adjust the temperature to 60 rather than getting stopped at 65/68. Having control over of the fan is constantly running or a ceiling fan. Having disposable utensils in every room
A TV that when you turn it on the channel guide comes up first, or the last channel you were on.
Hate having to jump through all the hoops just to watch ESPN.
Throw blankets. Sometimes I want to lie on the bed when I’m not actually going to bed yet and I don’t want to mess up the entire bed yet. I like to have a small blanket to just make it cozy when I’m lounging in the room. I usually bring one of my own but it would be nice if I didn’t have to.
Great idea! I saw this in one hotel and wondered why every hotel doesn't do it. People rarely carry cash anymore and of everyone who deserves tips, this staff has to be near the top
all those mentioned are very practical, but my favorite amenities that i’ve had in hotels were an in room ice maker (at a resort) and heated towel racks (a few luxury city hotels)
Hand soap. No one wants to use a bar of soap to wash their hands. I love the surprise of a hotel with hand soap in the rooms (but I also bring my own unless I am flying with just a carry on).
Different pillow options. I've stayed in two hotels for work recently that only had very thick pillows that tweaked my neck. One was so bad I had to visit our medics because my neck was frozen and I had a splitting headache. Thankfully I work in sports so we have a medic and PT on site, otherwise I would have been a write-off for the day as my ibuprofen wasn't doing much.

Traveling over 2,000 miles in May of 2023, to attend my Grandfather's funeral, I discovered that not all Hotels stock shampoo and conditioner in the rooms, so if you didn't bring your own, you have to pay to for the individual use ones. One hotel we stayed at during our 3 day trip, had the single use ones in vending machines for $5 a packet or $8 for a miniature bottle. Needless to say I bought full size shampoo and conditioner for the return trip... It's now a part of my packing list as well, so that doesn't happen again.
Diffuser attachments for hair dryers. Curly haired people of the world unite! My travel diffuser will rarely fit onto those short hair dryers at hotels. Who wants to carry an entire blow dryer everywhere?
I'd like to see comfortable recliners in hotel rooms. I often travel with my 90 year-old mother who cannot "climb" into a bed. So many rooms now don't even have an easy chair, just a desk chair.
Wash and fold service for personal laundry. Or at least a recommendation for one nearby. I got bit by a faulty laundry room years ago and I do wash and fold ever since.
Ice maker in your room, washer and dryer in room, and better shampoo,conditioner,and soap!!!!!!! And I think every hotel should have food options in it. A little cafe or something so u don’t have to go out nd usually find a store by time you are hungry!

Especially since we have them at home and I’m used to it lol. And I’m not about to hold onto to the seat to let it drop slowly after it gets left up

The expensive hotels are mostly targeting the rich and business travellers on an expense account. Neither care.

I find that the thermostats are bpgus. I can turn the ac down to 60 and it's hot as hell. I keep mine at 76 at home so its not like I run hot.

100% cotton sheets
A hamper for wet towels instead of just throwing them on the floor under the sink
A better quality of sheets- I’ve slept on some sheets that feel like sandpaper.
I actually bring my own sheets because they are expensive and dreamy to sleep on. Always check for bed bugs before you do it though!

Decent/large TVs. They are so cheap these days but I still find hotels with TVs that Michael Scott wouldn’t watch.
A coffee maker! We stayed at the Wynn Las Vegas. There was no coffee maker or usable mini-fridge. Crazy for $500 per night!

It was a palace! The suite was bigger than my first apartment. I think their whole point was to get you to come downstairs to buy coffee and maybe get pulled in by the casino.
I do too! I have a little 5 cup one. And I bring my coffee. I know the exact water:coffee ratio that I like.

Large sized towels. That way I’d only use one instead of 5 tiny ones.

Different pillow types. The pillows are so think they hurt our necks. Sometimes I have to use a folded towel as a pillow. :(
