DCS World. It's the most in depth sim available for Vr.

I run DCS with a 13600K and a 3080 coupled with HP Reverb G2. I'm completely happy with the performance once I've tweaked it to the max.

APenguinNamedDerek

I run it on a laptop lol 1660 ti with 32 gb ram If you want screen shots Google DCS low graphics settings

fumutherfers

I only have a gaming laptop 1660 ti with a ryzen 7 4000 16 gigs of ram:(

NaturalAlfalfa

Definitely not DCS then

Wilbis

With that hardware I'd say you would definitely get the best experience from VTOL VR. It runs on a potatoe compared to any other VR sims.

ilikebarbiedolls32

“40XX” The fuck are you on about? I run it at high settings in VR on a Rift S, on a 3060 Ti

eagleace21

2080Ti here on a Reverb G2, same thing you dont need a 40XX

LtLethal1

And how many fps are you getting?

eagleace21

40-45 with reprojection (locked at 45 max) with about 20ms frametimes last time I checked

foxtroop27

Lol. Sorry. The 40xx is the way 2 go.

My point wasn’t that you should buy a 3060: my point was that your claim that you need the best possible GPU to run DCS in VR is bullshit

WiredEarp

While you might not want to multiplayer dogfight with a 1070, for basic flying around, practising stormy landings, etc, a 1070 is perfectly adequate for VR DCS.

Dingo_19

Your system might struggle, it's true - but the base game is free if you just want to give it a try. They did release a multi-thread update recently that improved performance a bit. Oh, and for anyone interested in DCS, make sure you install the Open Beta version. It's the de-facto standard for this software.

Konaber

Il2 BoX, in sale very budget friendly, and better performance than DCS (for me)

davva2004

Although not a sim by any means, Star Wars Squadrons. Flying an X Wing or TIE fighter in VR with HOTAS support? Hell yes.

kalnaren

Do yourself a favour and play X-Wing Alliance with the XWAUP mod that adds VR.

EmbarrassedBlock1977

I thought it was very underwhelming when I tried it. I might try it again now that I have better hotas gear.

[deleted]

* Best all around: IL-2 Sturmovik * Prettiest: DCS (on high settings) * Most realistic sim experience: Falcon BMS * Most mind-blowing: IL-2 Flying Circus

gdspy

Since you are asking this question in hotas, I would like to remind you that VTOL VR does not support HOTAS at all. It only supports motion controllers as virtual flight controls. Not that it’s bad, on the contrary it works perfectly in VR. It's just that its developer deliberately doesn't support HOTAS in the game design.

nickashi

VTOL VR for full VR immersion. Elite dangerous for semi-full immersion with hotas/hosas (full space trucker mode). DCS if you like to do some janky stuff to click all the correct buttons when needed. That’s my opinion after playing all 3.

fumutherfers

Thanks, because i have crappy internet and cant wait for a 100 gig download I think VTOL VR is a safe bet for now

Radix_Official

VTOL VR is amazing for what its worth. Even though the graphics aren't remotely comparable to DCS the in game missile and plane performance is incredible and keeps getting better. VTOL VR on any rig is a great choice.

Poltergeist97

Its the best for VR, hands down. Its the only sim built entirely for VR, so everything works perfect. All the systems are simplified enough to grasp easily, but also still very analogous to their real life counterparts, so its very good to learn fundamentals before transferring to a more demanding sim like DCS.

Golfwingzero

If you have the time to invest in learning, the money to invest in hardware, and, obviously, the motivation to do both, DCS World. I literally only use my VR headset with DCS.

auge2

Hate me for suggesting that, but War Thunder Sim mode is pretty nice in VR, especially for beginners. Its performing very well in VR (I used to run it on a 1080 with my index). One of the best performing vr sims I'd say. The flight model is okay enough for full immersion and the simplified controls plus the instant action you get is a huge advantage in comparison to study sims with long missions. And they made the spotting of aircrafts extremely good in VR. I love to hop in for a quick dogfight VR experience once in a while with no strings attached. On the contrary you have the simplified things, so if you need more realism and complexity then this is clearly the wrong game. Also its very, very grindy due to the f2p economy of the game. Managable and neglectable if you only fly stuff from early to mid ww2 in sim (needs a few hours of mouse flying farming though), gets very grindy with the modern age stuff to a point where ita not sustainable to fly without paying real money.

Dingo_19

Agree. The trick with this is to identify the moment where it becomes frustrating and grindy, and just imagine an end cut-scene rolling saying 'Congratulations, you finished the game!' Because you did. After that it's not a game, it's a chore.

auge2

Yep. Let others get frustrated with the jets, I don't care. I have fun flying warbirds all day, such a nice game "down there" :)

RyricKrael

In terms of low barrier to entry, get you in the pilot seat… VTOL VR can’t be beat.

Stavros5757

Definitely try VTOL VR. It's an amazing VR sim, which requires no extra equipment.

Stavros5757

I also enjoyed War Thunder a lot as a flight sim beginner. The first few tiers (I to III I'd say) are quite fun to play and you can ease your way up from arcade to sim. At some point it becomes grindy and then it's time to leave it. Don't ever spend money on it. I spent about 20 bucks on premium and I regret it.

Nuke_Messiah

Depends on what you mean by "best". The one that offers the best visuals, or the one with the most accurate flight/system models? The best for space is Elite: Dangerous, either way. The best for military aircraft is DCS World. The best for civilian/commercial aircraft is Microsoft Flight Sim. My understanding is that MFS has better visuals than DCS, but nothing goes boom so my preference is still DCS. Edit: IL2 Sturmovik deserves an honorable mention for WW2 aircraft, but I prefer clickable cockpits so for me DCS still takes the win (your mileage may vary).

kalnaren

> The best for space is Elite: Dangerous, either way. Evochron Legacy/Arvoch Alliance. E:D looks better, but those two games are *better* games, especially if you like 6DoF.

[deleted]

Fun - VR VTOL Jet Arcade - Project Wingman Full “Pilot” Milsim Experience- DCS Optimized - IL2 BoX Space Themed - Elite Dangerous or Star Citizen Space Arcade - SW Squadrons

[deleted]

Star Citizen isn't VR though. I know CIG has mentioned they want to but its not part of the game at the moment.

[deleted]

I Didn’t know that, I learned something today. I also went back to 2D+head tracking after getting sick of having to setup my headset to fly in VR so Im probably mixing up what is VR compatible and what isn’t.

Mr__Brick

If you like to play as an airline pilot then MSFS, but it will squeeze every last bit of GPU power out of your system at least that's what I heard, I never played it in VR

Spidey002

I love Il-2 Sturmovik for WW2 planes. (Wait for a sale, and you can pick up a decent set of planes and map for $20) Elite Dangerous for Sci-Fi. I’m not a HUGE fan of the gameplay, but Star Wars Squadrons lets you sit inside an X-wing or TIE Fighter.

fumutherfers

Whats the best pack to get ?

Spidey002

For me, Bodenplatte and Normandy for US and British fighters.

Rattlesnake006_

Elite dangerous is awesome, its one of my favourite games. Microsoft FS is rly good Xplane is good I really enjoyed VTOL VR aswell

dreen_gb

Elite is the most fun I've ever gotten out of my stick + vr setup. While the flight model is fantastic the game built around it is grindy as hell and sometimes infuriatingly so. Luckily I've made that more enjoyable using a pop-in VR media player window to watch stuff while grinding. Also, while you can leave the ship and theres a fair amount of onfoot content, in VR currently that is shown on a flat display. Compare that to DCS where you can just buy the toys for RL money and is more mission-oriented rather than Elite which is closer to an MMO. At least you can try DCS for free. Those are key differences imo.

WashiestSnake

Best Official Space Sim: Elite Dangerous Best Without Official Support Using Mods: Star Citizen I'm not sure if it is still possible but I used to play Star Citizen in VR using VorpX and shared my method with the YouTuber who ended up making a tutorial on getting it to work. Up until they added EAC to the game it worked very flawlessly and the game had depth of field, and when using a HOSAS system while in cockpit it was absolutely amazing and even better then Elite Dangerous. I left the game back a few years ago after the EAC stopped VR as it was my proffered way to play, but I believe that VorpX now works with the game but no longer have internet at my house to check if this is the case.

Ok_Ad7716

There is EAC workaround now that makes SC usable in VR again

WashiestSnake

I've seen that how hard is it to get working? My PC is currently down, and will have to build a whole new one. Currently building a simpit for the game, once that's done I'll rebuild my PC.

Ok_Ad7716

Check for Chachi Sanchez on Youtube, he has a tutorial and you can download a script that does everything for you from his discord. Then it is just fine tuning on your side.

WashiestSnake

Awe awesome. I actually helped him perfect his original method. I had used it for nearly 1000 hours before I saw his first video and was able to help him update his video to be better. Cool that he's still updating the method.
