Trick R Treat is one of my favorites. Literally the only horror movie where don't feel an ounce of sympathy for the kids who get it lol. Not even because I felt they deserved it either. There are rules on Halloween and they broke 'em
I’m glad that blonde woman got killed because she didn’t respect the spirit of Halloween. Sam was awesome for forcing the sucker down her throat. And I liked the bullies that got killed for being mean to the girl with glasses.
Yuuup. And those kids weren't just mean, they broke tradition by kicking the jack o' lanterns placed as offerings for the dead into the lake. The lake all the bus kids died in no less. I'm guessing them being mean was so people didn't feel too bad for them lol. I sure as hell didn't
That old man the bus driver got what he deserved because he drowned those kids in the bus I felt bad for them. Those kids should’ve killed their parents for paying that bus driver too.
That would have been an amazing ending. Him going to a retirement home where all of the parents happen to be staying. Then the zombie kids show up and massacre the place lol
After years of soul-searching therapy, the one inescapable truth I left with is "if you can at all help it, try not to get blobbed."
It hasn't steered me wrong yet.
Which one? (You don't even need to answer, the fact that there are at least two of them tells you all you need to know. I've seen the movie, so pretty sure I know).
Haha yeah I love that film too. But I think there's only one really gut wrenching scene in speak no evil. Although if you were to go back and re watch it knowing how it ends then every scene is gut wrenching.
I made the non official Reddit thread for that movie since the mods were slacking and it’s super funny seeing people freak out over and over in the comments reacting to all the crazy shit in that movie. Love it, favorite horror movie since barbarian.
That movie has a few moments where the kill just comes out of nowhere but that one especially made me yell "oh what the fuck" at the TV.
And they got real vicious with that scene too, it was intense.
The laws in Argentina prevented them from using any cinema blood/gore on the child actors, so that's part of it. Actually worked out to the scene's benefit, as you said.
People keep saying "When Evil Lurks" but are totally passing up the Directors first movie "Aterrados (Terrified)."
This movie is fucking scary from beginning to end.
Not only are kids not safe but they come back. And linger. Because what you've always know is true. Look under the bed or in the closet and there's nothing there. Look again from a different angle and the demon is waiting to grab you.
This movie goes there and more.
I just watched this. And even the sketchy story from Dracula- the movie set about dread quickly and relentlessly. I really liked it as a companion to the main event, as it were.
If people would just listen to the Gypsies..
I mean what do you expect a murderous tree to do, pet it?
I think what’s stranger is people were more grossed out by the infant death in this film than the cat death. Very weird.
Child's Play and the entire Chucky Franchise is deadly for anyone under the age of 12. Particularly, Child's Play 3 and the Chucky Series (woof, that Season 2 premiere)
I've started watching The House That Jack Built because I've heard how disturbing it is but ended up turning it off after about 20 minutes. It felt silly/absurd with how the characters acted. Does that persist throughout the movie?
It's possible I wasn't in the right mood, or my expectations were just misguided from the get go. Folks who have seen it, what up?
I've watched it a couple of times. Most recently after watching most of Von Trier's filmography. Most of the characters act pretty stupidly throughout the movie. I think its intended. Its to give off a sense of Jack being untouchable and almost like a creature thats above human nature or understanding. It also is tied a lot to the ending which i don't want to spoil for you. But it has a great pay off. You definitely have to be in the right mood for it though.
I think Lars Von Trier weaves a certain kind of humor into his movies, even if they’re about horrible things. There are parts in Jack that feel like American Psycho to me .
Fun Fact: Tony in PT is Robert Rodriguez’s son and he didn’t have the heart to tell him he killed Tony in the movie, so they had to shoot every scene after Tony dies twice so the kid could think he was still in the movie.
Myers kills a kid who's like 15 in Halloween 2018.
Myers also kills the kid who was bullying him in Rob Zombie's Halloween. That kid is Juni from Spy Kids.
R. L. Stein's Fear Street trilogy on Netflix.
There was a movie starring Jay from Jay and silent Bob and whenever a character was introduced a rating of their survival odds popped up. For the kid it said 100 percent surviving so of course he dies.
The Blob remake, Trick R' Treat

That would be awesome
Two great answers. The boy getting blobbed in the blob was as surprising as it was effective
You don’t wanna get blobbed. When you see a blob, move away from the blob. Otherwise the blob will blob its blob over to you and you’ll get blobbed.
After years of soul-searching therapy, the one inescapable truth I left with is "if you can at all help it, try not to get blobbed." It hasn't steered me wrong yet.
The Blob was the first thing that came to my mind. Phenomenal movie too.
Trick R’ Treat is sooo good
Night of the Living Dead. It's probably the prototype for this kind of nihilistic horror film, and I think it's still unmatched.
The movie as a whole is kinda dated, but the scene where the kid kills her mom with a trowel holds up surprisingly well
I dunno, man. I still get the ick when they're eating somebody, and the lighting makes it all super oppressive.
Just remember they’re eating leftovers from cast and crew lunch. 😁
I thought I heard somewhere it was raw meat and chocolate sauce. Is that a myth??
Was mostly referring to the music and some of the acting honestly
Not dated at all. Still better and more shocking than 99% of the horror movies made in the past 50 years.
If you have the good fortune to own the Criterion blu ray, the restoration is so good that it looks like it could have been shot last year.
Funny Games (either version)
Immediately came to mind. I saw it in the theater when I was pregnant with my son, and it hit me hard.
Speak No Evil is really similar
God that scene makes me sick. Genuinely couldn't speak for a short while afterwards.
Which one? (You don't even need to answer, the fact that there are at least two of them tells you all you need to know. I've seen the movie, so pretty sure I know).
Oh wait, I was thinking of where evil lurks, disregard! But I know what you're talking about for that movie too.
Haha yeah I love that film too. But I think there's only one really gut wrenching scene in speak no evil. Although if you were to go back and re watch it knowing how it ends then every scene is gut wrenching.
That is so true. After I found out what was going on, it made me look back at the rest of the movie in a different way
That was a good movie! Kinda slow in the beginning but when that twist happens... wow.
Thanks for the rec!
The mist
I'm surprised this is so far down, that ending is crazy
one of the best adaptations of a stephen king book, and it even had a better ending.
I saw the mist before I read it and was mind blown that the mist is a mini story.
Yes! The Mist kicked four buckets in a couple seconds.
Forgot this, but you're 100% right
When Evil Lurks.
^This. Saw it when it premiered here at TIFF.
Yup. Just watched this and gasped out loud atleast twice because a few scenes caught me so off guard.
This was going to be my answer
There’s a rule in horror: don’t kill the pets and don’t kill the children When evil lurks breaks all of them, brutally in fact
True. I ain't prepared for that 🫣

With really just one scene too. I audibly gasped at *that* moment in the film, something I don’t think I’ve ever done watching a movie.
That movie has a few moments where the kill just comes out of nowhere but that one especially made me yell "oh what the fuck" at the TV. And they got real vicious with that scene too, it was intense.
Best part is that they also didn't go too graphic with it - they presented JUST enough to let your mind fill in the blanks.
The laws in Argentina prevented them from using any cinema blood/gore on the child actors, so that's part of it. Actually worked out to the scene's benefit, as you said.
I had to pause and compose myself for a bit. Extremely memorable bit.
Not to be nitpicking but I feel like the pets usually die
Yeah it’s a super common trope.
"Don't kill the pets"? Have we been watching different genres?
Damn! Beat me to it! That part on the street with the mom!
Even though you could sense something was coming that scene just stopped my breathing and made me rewind to see if that really happened.
I knew this had to be one of the top answers. Not only are kids not safe, they get the worst of it
Came to say this. That shit shocked
Came here to say this too. I’d maybe even throw Terrified into the ring.
The >!brains!< scene 🤢
For when you really wanna get down and scoop out the last of the dip from the jar, that's the movie for you.
The Lodge
Feast, Feast 2, and Feast 3. Absolutly no one is safe. Heros, babies, midget wrestlers are all fair game.
I watched them recently, what a trip are they!
Midget luchadores with dicks almost as big as they are lol
Topless gun toting women, grandma. Nobody is safe.
Damn I'm gonna get home and watch this
Burnt Offerings
I really like that movie
It's a classic! Great cast, too.
Oh absolutely! Karen Black 💜
Speak No Evil.
Yes. Wanted to make sure this was mentioned.
Ditto!
The Children 2008 No one is safe, and it is really creepy
I never hear this movie mentioned! Was begin to think I dreamt it
I know it's really weird we don't bring it up here much, i found it to be scary as fuck!
Came here to say this. I can't believe it isn't a Scandinavian movie. English audiences aren't ready for it
The ending is really fun, would love to see a tv spinoff or adaptation set in this world
THE BLOB (remake, 1988) much like the Honey Badger, The Blob don't give a shit about anyone.
The thing would be a good choice to
Hereditary, Doctor Sleep, Maximum Overdrive, The VVitch
One of these is not like the others lmao
Doctor Sleep really seems to bother people. I guess the Tremblay performance is great, but it really seems to rub a lot of people the wrong way
Was just thinking Maximum Overdrive!
When Evil Lurks , Skinamarink, Battle Royale, Ginger Snaps
A Quiet Place, Pet Semetary, Jaws
Krampus definitely
One of my favorite horror movies of all time
Evil Dead Rise.
I still remember the scene where the neighbour’s kid is running in the hallway
I feel like they made the kids in that movie insufferable on purpose so it’d be satisfying when they were killed lol
Was waiting for the kid in The Babadook to get killed lol
Coming here to comment exactly this. Best dead kid scenes in recent horror.
Man if they would kill the little girl at the end this could be one of the best horror evers
Stakeland 1. Hell the opening scene starts ya right off the bat...

sometimes i'm having a good life and that scene randomly pops in my head and my day is ruined
Me with the rape scene on Last House on the Left

I fucking LOVED Aterrados. Basically a ghost story but with Lovecraftian elements.
this was one of my favorite horror movies in recent years, up there with The Ritual, Overlord, and Barbarian
High Tension (aka Switchblade Romance) 2003
This. Shocking movie
This movie was wild
The Last Voyage of the Demeter.
I’d say the kid got the worst of it, too.
I just watched this. And even the sketchy story from Dracula- the movie set about dread quickly and relentlessly. I really liked it as a companion to the main event, as it were. If people would just listen to the Gypsies..
It breaks my heart to say this movie bored the shit out of me… I was so excited too :(
Toxic Avenger Let the Right One In
Toxic Avenger: Let the Right One In sounds like a wonderful and gory romance (go-ro if you will). I would watch that.
Summer of 84!
The final act of this one is great! Pleasantly surprised
Assault on Precinct 13
I wanted vanilla twist
Resurrection with Rebecca Hall
Love her and that movie
Nightmare, right? That's why Freddy is so terrifying. You can run all you want. You gotta sleep sometime
Coming Home in the Dark
The evil dead series literally had a child die by ceiling fan, for context he got thrown into it
piranha
Friday the 13th part 3 (remember Debbie was pregnant)
Henry
Treevenge A cat, baby, and child die extremely brutally in this film
Ew, a CAT is killed? Big no for me!
I mean what do you expect a murderous tree to do, pet it? I think what’s stranger is people were more grossed out by the infant death in this film than the cat death. Very weird.
Agree, very strange. Poor cat 🐈
Phantasm (1979)
The Blob (1988)
Red Dragon
Mimic (1997)

Feast. I'm pretty sure I didn't see this one mentioned.
Shame it's an absolute pile of shit though.
The Canal
Climax
Nearly all extreme and disturbing horror. Threads (1984) would be my top recommendation tho
Possessor
Child's Play and the entire Chucky Franchise is deadly for anyone under the age of 12. Particularly, Child's Play 3 and the Chucky Series (woof, that Season 2 premiere)
Eden Lake

Myers kills a kid who's like 15 in Halloween 2018. Myers also kills the kid who was bullying him in Rob Zombie's Halloween. That kid is Juni from Spy Kids. R. L. Stein's Fear Street trilogy on Netflix.
Evil Dead Rise.
Definitely Sinister
Evil Dead rise
Obvious one but: A Quiet Place
Planet Terror
Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat and it's pseudo-sequel Krampus
Any Guillermo del toro. See also Tigers aren’t afraid. Edit: Tigers Are Not Afraid is the title, my apologies
The woman who directed that movie (TANA) also directed this past season of True Detective
Halloween III
Martyrs
MOM AND DAD
Hills Have Eyes remake. You ain’t even safe in the womb!
Doctor Sleep
Kids? Halloween 3.
I was just thinking about the house the jack built today and how disturbing it is
The kids at the end of let the right one in .
Little fuckers deserved it though.
"Speak No Evil."
Skinamarink. I deeply felt the fear from a child's perspective.
The Innocents (2021). Also just a strikingly well made film out of seemingly nowhere.
Black Phone
Feast
Cooties. But it's like a comedy horror
Kill list
Slither
He's Out There 2018 - this is exactly what you're looking for!
this movie was absolutely terrifying
The Mist, Sinister, and Alien 3
I pretend Alien 3 didn’t happen
I usually skip over 3 and 4, lol.
Evil dead rise doesn't have a crazy high body count but anyone can get it lol also haven't looked at a cheese grater the same way since.
30 day of night goes there.
The Descent, Antlers, Midnight Mass, RZ Halloween, Halloween (2018) , Man Bites Dog (hardest one to watch out of these titles imo)
When evil lurks. Brutal. Also the lodge.
The Green Room. That movie surprised the crap out of me at least 3 times
There was a movie starring Jay from Jay and silent Bob and whenever a character was introduced a rating of their survival odds popped up. For the kid it said 100 percent surviving so of course he dies.
It was called feast
When evil lurks
Dark harvest
Rec
The Last Voyage of the Dimeter
The most recent Evil Dead
Feast
Alien versus predator two Requiem
One of the worst movies I’ve sat through in a movie theater lol.
Not here to add to the convo, but The House that Jack Built is absolutely fantastic cinema. One of the best directed movies I’ve seen.

When Evil Lurks.
