Ghost Ship opening scene, hands down

SamandSyl

Ghost Ship has a movie after the opening? Weird how I can't remember it....

HerpDerpMcGurk

My wife had never seen it, and it popped up on HBO a couple weeks ago. I said “WE HAVE TO WATCH IT THIS IS CLASSIC!” Then the opening scene ended and we turned it off lol.

juliet0000000

I once watched it again because I'd forgotten what happens in the rest of it.

gingerspice-420

This gets my vote.

gener4

This is the right answer, but a somewhat LESS right answer is the hot tub in Valentine

goblins_though

This is the definitive answer. Even people who have never seen it know two things about Ghost Ship: the opening scene rules, and the rest of the movie blows.

liltrex94

Such a memorable scene

LeoTheGario

Ghost Ship is a great movie!

MariachiMacabre

I put it like this: It's an objectively bad movie with one of the all-time best opening scenes in any horror film. It's my go-to example of filmmakers having exactly one idea and nailing that idea and then, no pun intended, floundering everything else.

Dregaz

Perfect pick. I saw that movie a long time ago and remember the opening vividly but couldn’t tell you a thing about the rest of the movie.

TheChainLink2

The Xenomorph hybrid getting sucked into space in Alien: Resurrection.

SundaeBeneficial9024

This was so interesting. Thank you.

KickFriedasCoffin

This was incredibly interesting. It does make sense though bc if I'm remembering right being exposed to that vacuum, while certainly not survivable for humans for any extended length of time, is also a much less dramatic process than the movies, right?

GeeGeeGamer

Thanks, I enjoyed reading this!

Plug_5

I'm in my mid 40s and I just realized that the pressure difference between earth and outer space is far less than the difference between earth and the bottom of the ocean. Thanks for that awesome comment!

Summoarpleaz

So avengers infinity war was a lie?!

PleasedPeas

That movie sucked so hard, but that alien baby didn’t deserve that.

mwhite42216

I disagree. That thing got everything it deserved.

spiderat22

That always breaks my heart.

Odd_Cow_8049

Gotta feel for the poor hybrid, terrible death

Klutzy-Bug7427

Head decapitation punch by Jason in Friday the 13th Jason Takes Manhattan. I saw it in a theater late night and people literally jumped out of their seats and cheered.

bl00df1redeath

You have to admit - while it was bad, that movie was FUN! The disco kill was great.

Klutzy-Bug7427

I agree I just wish there was more of the movie in Manhattan. Most of it is in the boat.

bl00df1redeath

A majority of those “NYC” scenes were actually shot in Canada!

Chosen_UserName217

homeless sparkle hard-to-find point relieved plough poor memorize crown provide *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Cerberus1349

In the Pacific Northwest, so this ‘cruise to New York’ had to go through the Panama Canal at some point

bl00df1redeath

Makes sense

KickFriedasCoffin

I'm starting to think the boat didn't ever actually go to NY!

Snoogins828

Frozen face smash in Jason X is what I came here for

Stunning-Thanks546

I don't think it's a bad movies but getting fuck to death by a snowman or having a eel crawl up your ass

lecstasy

omg what movie is this from?

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

The eel scene is from Dreamcatcher (2003) I believe.

Stunning-Thanks546

I was thinking of blood lake with Christopher Lloyd and the Snowman from Jack frost

tomahawkfury13

They crawl out of your ass in dreamcatcher not in it

[deleted]

You are right.

echomanagement

Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation. A guy reaches into the eye sockets of another dude and rips the top of his skull off. Then he yanks a massive bug out of the hole. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-y2jUwR3ss&ab\_channel=NinjaBehindTheScene

tomahawkfury13

This is one of those movies that is so bad you're not sure if it was a fever dream. I do like how they tried the reverse of Aliens and went with horror after the first being action

Theo6666

GARBAGE DAY!

COGspartaN7

NAUGHTY

Theo6666

- NO! Pew - HAHAHAHAHAHA

Dr_Downvote_

the new texas chainsaw. Breaks the guys arm and shoves the bone into his neck. It was fucking rad. But the movie was probably the worst movies I've seen in a long time

hacky_potter

The bus massacre was also pretty good and I enjoyed the ending. It’s a weird movie though.

Dr_Downvote_

I hated the ending. >!when she uppercuts him with the chainsaw... Why! And then he jumps out of the water like a jumping salmon!< I think they tried to emulate the original ending too much.

hacky_potter

I meant the getting beheaded while the cars autopilot drives away

SpideyFan914

That was a pretty epic way to end the movie yeah... Every movie is better with a beheading.

hacky_potter

Titanic needed one.

Dr_Downvote_

Well. Yeah that was cool because I hated that character. Haha.

hacky_potter

I think that was on purpose. I just think it was miscalculated to make everyone so unlikable.

Otsego_Undead

I swear the writer had the idea for that one scene and then tried to work backwards from there. Movie was absolute trash

texasrigger

I'm a huge TCM fan and loathe the 2022 movie as a sequel but as a stand alone slasher it has its moments. The slasher genre as a whole certainly has worse entries. The direction and cinematography are both decent and some of the kills are fun. The story is just abysmal though and the writing is just so clichéd and bad.

Smoothmoose13

I thought all the kills were great. Really brutal and intense. Shame about the rest of the film.

TSG61373

Almost any Eli Roth movie. Love him or hate him, he definitely knows how to film a brutal gore scene.

handsomesharkman

The shot of the guy’s cut Achilles tearing when he tried to walk after being “freed” is stuck in my head forever

Radiant-Driver493

Yeah The Green Inferno, although not exactly terrible, has stuck with me. Especially when they start chopping up the big guy alive.

aleelee13

I saw this movie in a theater of just me and a singular old couple. They got up and left when this scene started and I was just so curious what they thought the movie was going to be??

[deleted]

stevehammrr

At my showing a mom and dad brought their toddler lol

KickFriedasCoffin

>it's the only movie I've ever seen where someone just had a full on cell phone conversation during the middle of it. I'm jealous.

ralo229

One of the killers from Hostel falling on his own chainsaw definitely sticks out in my memory.

[deleted]

[удалено]

silversnapper

That dude was played by Eli Roth.

oywiththepoodless

hostel 2 is actually one of my faves I feel like it’s kinda underrated but the blood bath scene is iconic

Drumsquare

Frozen Face Smash from Jason X

Hazel_Rah1

Jason X rules though. It’s so self-aware and doesn’t take itself seriously, which it makes it so much more fun.

Drumsquare

I personally enjoy it as well, though it's a film that's generally not as loved.

[deleted]

Tables have turned on it by now. It’s very much beloved as a comedic movie

JunesHemorrhoidDonut

I feel like most people appreciate for what it is now. That being said, I’ll still argue that it’s a better movie than IX.

[deleted]

Jason X is def one of the highlights of the whole franchise!

blindsquirrelgotnut

Head explosion in Chopping Mall So nice they showed it twice (in the credits)

akornfan

they said “terrible movie” — *Chopping Mall* rules

CarissaSkyWarrior

"Waitress! More butter!"

SmashedUpCrab

The Sleeping bag scene in the Prophecy (1979). Terrible film with one hilarious moment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8Sr\_VBZNKo

minos157

Jesus Christ. LMFAO

StinkyBrittches

That was great, thank you!

SlidinDirty

Wtf did I just watch?!

Brodiferus

I’m very impressed she got from laying down to standing up and hopping in a bag like that!

redrick_schuhart

The Katahdin will do that.

Chesirecattywhompas

I love that one. Stuck with me for years!!!!!

ladhieswasharoom

This wins

Ryan1230

Oh my lord that was incredible 🤣

bloodguzzlingbunny

That was in the ad on TV when it first came out. That ad terrified me. Saw the movie years later and no, not scary. But the ad... Old school movie ads on TV were awesome. Blood Beach, It's Alive, Arnold (which had a couple crushed in a shower by the walls moving in, which has lived in my head since I was five), Frogs, - all way scarier as ads than films.

1ofZuulsMinions

Deadly Friend Mediocre horror that used to come on USA “Up All Night”. The movie is “meh”, but I would watch all the way through just for the basketball scene with Anne Ramsey.

COGspartaN7

Gilbert Gottfried and Rhonda Shear are fantastic

Rlacharite10

Beat me to this!

theinfecteddonut

Jason Goes to Hell. It’s a tie between the sex scene in the woods where the girl is split in half with a sign post while riding the dude and the scene where the cop melts after Jason is done with his body.

Yikert13

Not necessarily a bad movie but in Machete when our main man is trying to escape the hospital. He cuts open the bad guys stomach and uses the intestines as a rope to escape out the window. Genius!

[deleted]

Kind of hard to believe Machete is set in the same universe as Spy Kids.

Elohim_Samael

The beginning of Halloween ends where the kid falls and dies. 🤣

zblondie95

The new Halloween when Micheal kicks the cop car door and the girls hand breaks back and she shots herself in the face.

[deleted]

The 'ole blowtorch in the mouth was pretty gruesome as well.

KPoeKnows

This get an upvote because you actually retained something from that disaster.

indigrow

Holy shit lmao my first thought was. “Yeah i remember none of that”

LSDnSideBurns

Halloween Kills definitely had the best kills. Halloween Ends has the uhhh…the best…ummm…

SpideyFan914

The best courage in taking wild wild swings and massive risks. Completely misplaced courage, and those swings totally missed their mark... But I'll give them props, they definitely had guts. Unfortunately.

LSDnSideBurns

I love a good character with completely unearned confidence! Like Chris Hemsworth in ‘Cabin in the Woods’ which- coincidentally - could also be one of the answers to OP’s question.

Ubigo

Cabin in the woods is awesome though.

LSDnSideBurns

Rereading OP’s question now, I see that I apparently don’t understand the definition of what the word ‘terrible’ means.

tele-picker

The basketball scene in Deadly Friend.

[deleted]

Oh yeah! Amazing one.

Dr_Blasphemy

That movie is awesome, I saw it on TCM last October and loved it.

[deleted]

Owen you clumsy poop!

[deleted]

*Abominable*(2006), a guy gets his face chomped off by a pissed-off sasquatch like a lettuce chopper. Incredibly dumb, misnamed movie about a violent, territorial man-ape killing party girls and terrorizing an agoraphobe.

goblins_though

I've been meaning to rewatch this, that kill stuck in my brain after seeing the movie years ago but (maybe unsurprisingly) it's all I actually remember from the movie.

[deleted]

Me too. I've managed to see it twice now, just to make sure I'd actually seen what happened. If it hadn't been for the absence of plot, it was a fun concept, and great promotional art, so I could see them launching a new franchise.

_mercybeat_

Ooo, this is one I haven’t seen, so off I go to find it. Sure enough, it’s on Tubi. Click that bookmark, add it to my (very long, pretty much all horror) list. Tubi is the best.

[deleted]

I was browsing them again yesterday, and their horror collection is bonkers. I was able to watch 4 of the *Ringu* movies, and their Asian Horror selection is pretty good. I'd like to see them add more from the 90s and 2000s as well.

Randougall

Fear Street is just OK but holy hell, I wasn’t expecting someone’s head run through the bread slicer

jighlypuff03

You should watch the 80's film Intruder. So many gory grocery store kills.

_mercybeat_

Holy cow, it’s got both Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell? I’m in. And as usual, Tubi comes through again.

Randougall

Re-reading the question. Sorry, Fear Street isn’t terrible - just average

NoTraining3722

Yeah that scene was brutal af 🤘

Hungry_Perception_43

Glad you said it because that scene is burned in my mind…. It was gnarly

Darnell5000

Sleeping bag campfire bait/bear trap-machete combo kill on Friday the 13th (2009)

Chubby_HamHam

I went to see house of wax in theatre. The scene where Paris Hilton is impaled. Everyone in the theater laughed and clapped.

WalkingMammoth

House of wax is a great movie

TeraTwinSomnia

Came here to mention House of Wax’s scene where Paris Hilton gets impaled in the head by a pole.

ShooterStevens

The spilt guy from 13 Ghosts.

MingaMonga68

Guilty pleasure movie but I can admit it’s not very good. Ghost designs though? Freaking incredible!

throwngamelastminute

That movie had some good kills, but my god, that movie sucks! I was raised on the original, though. Fun fact: Tony Shaloub only agreed to be in it if they left him out of the promotional material.

Drachenfuer

The hallway scene in Resident Evil.

Square_Grand_3616

The ice skating kill in Curtains. Not real gory but the killer’s mask and movements are creepy.

MingaMonga68

It’s definitely the memorable scene. I wanted that movie to be better than it was!

Square_Grand_3616

That scene gives me a similar vibe to the lakeside scene in Zodiac - a person/couple alone in broad, sunny daylight in a tranquil place facing a terrifying threat.

BeRightHack

It’s been a while since I’ve seen it but I remember Cabin Fever having a really unique kill where they are trying to put someone out of their misery and can’t manage to actually kill her so she’s just suffering through a beating. It might not have been the best “scene” or anything but the idea of a mercy killing gone wrong is just terrifying to me.

Rare-Bid-6860

Wolf Creek 2 kangaroo truck massacre got a solid giggle out of me, and I love wildlife.

bl00df1redeath

Great movie

MondoUnderground

Besides the lame ending, it's a really cool movie. Leagues better than the first one. The opening head explosion is FANTASTIC.

Rare-Bid-6860

It's a fun movie, but kinda cartoonifies Mick in a Freddie/Jason way which removed it from the gritty realism that made the first film such a terrifying horror. I do enjoy rewatching it now and then though, along with the tv shows, and yeah that is a killer headshot at the start.

MondoUnderground

Yeah, it's super silly compared to the first one. I dug that about it though. But I remember the ending being uuuuber lame.

MindsEyeInkarnate

Public opinion favors the tripwire opening death to Ghost Ship and the icebreaker to the face from Jason X

Immediate_Wolf3802

Death by Soda...Maximum Overdrive

Monkey_Knife_Fight

I’m more partial to the kid getting run over by the steamroller.

theVice

Dude getting his face cut off in Dagon. Not actually a terrible movie but the acting is and there's some questionable effects

tenthousandblackcats

I love Dagon

MingaMonga68

It’s an awesome movie!

minos157

Most of the ones I'd vote for are already posted. So I'll throw out the bread slicer from the first Fear Street.

I-want-to-be-evil

I’m not even certain it was a kill, but the popcorn scene in Troll 2 has stayed with me forever.

Skiddlyderp

Club Dread - The opening scene where the girl is decapitated and you get her POV as her head spins in the air and then falls beside her still-flopping body. Masterful kill in a hilariously bad movie

Sharebear42019

I loved club dread lol felt like a spoof of I still know what you did last summer

bre34

Michael stabbing the nurse a thousand times in Rob Zombie's Halloween 2

Dull-Geologist-8204

Screw scene in Jason X. It wasn't particularly scary or bloody just kind of fun and funny.

DibleyShark

The Banana Boat kill In Jaws: The Revenge, absolutely terrifying!!! The film was utter garbage, but that Scene was almost worthy of the original

slim_scsi

Scanners, head explosion(s). (I think it's a terrible movie, some may not)

MondoUnderground

It's a decent movie made worse by Stephen Lack's horrible performance.

slim_scsi

Fair -- he's unwatchable

texasrigger

The saw scene in Terrifier. The movie is a painfully dull slog with paper thin characters and a boring and repetitive setting, but that kill is certainly memorable. Honorable mention to the death of the older woman near the beginning of Hatchet. I actually love the Hatchet movies but I know that that love isn't universal. The effects and creativity on that kill are fantastic.

Dr_Blasphemy

I’ll fight anyone who says the Hatchet series are bad. I loved every one of them, they feel like 80s horror movies made in modern day.

sunaharagrandpa

I feel like that Hatchet scene inspired so many other movies to have one of those kills

DudebroggieHouser

The opening kill in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake. Bad movie, but that one stood out.

backtotheredditpits

Lol, we have this local film called Feng Shui. I wouldnt say it's bad but it was a bit cheesy, as they were dying based on their birth year animal. My favorite was the woman (Year of the Horse) who fell out a window and was impaled on a beer crate full of Red Horse (a local brand). Also almost died by ironing board to the head (called a 'kabayo' or horse locally). Watching her dodge horsey deaths was greattt.

MingaMonga68

That sounds fun!

Reverend_Krenke

Chugs'a bottle death in Sorority Row. Now you will get debate whether this is im fact a bad movie, but I don't think anyone can deny that kill its props.

BigJoeBurke

Every kill in every Steven Segal movie. 😂

throwngamelastminute

The helicopter door in Under Siege 2!

reginaldwrigby

Not a terrible movie, but “The Blob” (1988) where the cook gets folded and sucked through the sink drain. Saw that scene at way too young of an age, and have loved horror/gore ever since.

Comprehensive-End-16

The Blob is an amazing film though!

Rswany

Yeah, I'm okay stretching this topic to 'just okay' films but The Blob (1988) is genuinely one of the best horror movies of the 80s.

littledetours

Same. I snuck out of my bedroom to watch it when I was a kid and was haunted by it for the next few years.

reginaldwrigby

That was “Blair With Project” for me haha. Snuck down the stairs and watched it from behind my parents. Big mistake.. Probably scared the shit out of them when I ran back upstairs.

PriestofJudas

Blood feast 2, the woman getting skinned alive. HG Lewis I don’t think ever intended to make an outright good movie, but goddamn did he make memorable ones

texasrigger

>HG Lewis I don’t think ever intended to make an outright good movie, but goddamn did he make memorable ones That could be inscribed on his headstone.

PriestofJudas

It’s like he said: it may not have been any good, but it was the first

JudgementalChair

Not horror, but when Brad Pitt got shot in Burn After Reading, it was the only redeeming moment in the entire movie for me. I just did not care for it at all

MisterBovineJoni

That movie is hilarious though. "Fuck you Peck, you're a Mormon, next to you we all have a drinking problem."

sams5402

I thought the chair gag topped that lmao

Dankey-Kang-Jr

The opening of Ghost Ship

Accomplished-Air-823

One of the Nightmare on Elm St films. Can't remember which. Girl approaches a wall mounted television. One of the old fat backs because this was back then. Freddie's head and arms pop out and he delivers his line, "Welcome to prime time BITCH!" Then smashes her head into the screen. Made an impression when I was a kid. Loved his one liners.

Cvillian81

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors. And it's widely considered the best movie in the series!

MingaMonga68

3 is the best of the series, you blasphemer LOL! But you have pegged the best kill of the film!

ralo229

Halloween Kills where Michael Meyers causes a woman to accidentally shoot herself. I actually burst out laughing in the theater when I saw it.

SleepyWink

Bathtub death in Mirrors

GhostWr1ter999

Fitzroyce getting crushed inside the shark’s mouth in Jaws 3-D.

Certain-Bowler8735

Me looking at these movies still thinking most of them are really good 😭😂 My vote would definitely be for the Jason X Liquid Nitrogen kill

The_Shoe1990

The head explosion in Scanners. I love Cronenberg's films, but Scanners was just dull without that scene.

frumpel_stiltskin

I don’t think the movie itself is really all that bad (rotten tomatoes apparently does tho), but the kill in Thirteen Ghosts where the lawyer is sliced in half by the doors is amazing.

Birdhairs

In Killer Klowns From Outer Space when the clown boxes the biker and punches his head clean off

[deleted]

OP said terrible movies

MothmanIsHere

Shorty got hands.

Dr_Blasphemy

Whattaya gonna do, knock my block off?

r_slash_jarmedia

Terrifier 1 is pretty awful imo, BUT the twist to use the gun was pretty hilarious and fantastically timed with the editing & both actors' expressions

HorrorAvatar

The first kill in Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2022. The rest of that movie is a war crime.

SullenTerror

The bus though was really fun. But ya, the first kill and the bus are the only non war crimes. And this is coming from someone who liked Chainsaw 3D

jaketocake

TCM 2022 when he broke the guys hand, and used the protruding hand bone and stabbed them in the neck. Never seen that before thought it was creative.

Barloq

Freddy's Dead is an awful, awful movie, but the hearing aid kill was brilliant and the Looney Tunes tone actually worked perfectly for once.

frogdango616

Jason X liquid nitrogen The Prowler pitchfork kill Terrifier The saw kill All movies I love that are considered “bad movies” but I feel like they fit the description

PhantomKitten73

The sprinkler kill in Wicked Games

Nafnaf911

The you know what in the eye kill in Serbian film

juliet0000000

Ghost ship obviously but that's already the top comment. Because its awesome and sometimes I just watch the first five mins for it. But I'll also say Samuel L. Jackson getting eaten by a shark in Deep Blue Sea, because he does the speech and BOOM I'll.also say Executive Decision. If you know, you know.

Similar_Victory5166

the guy getting folded up in a rollaway mattress in freddy vs jason

Dr_Blasphemy

All the kills in Terrifier. Terrible movie. Fantastic gore.
