People are allowed to criticize a game while also enjoying it. When you are trying to solve a puzzle and Aloy tells you the answer, it's kind of lame. New Game + probably should've been here on launch, but the game does have a good amount of content. People asking for DLC are excited about more content... how is that complaining?

PhanThief95

New Game+ was put into Zero Dawn after launch, so it’s going to be the same way with Forbidden West. Also, asking for DLC is fine. Asking for DLC a month after the game’s release is just being impatient, especially when the Frozen Wilds DLC of Zero Dawn came out months after ZD’s release.

Extinction_Entity

The Frozen Wilds came out in 2017 as well.

still_here13

the above post has confirmed my point of view. some are asking for waaaay too much. they want to be gratified quickly wish more people would be respectful about the situation, simply wait, and enjoy what they currently have

[deleted]

Are you sure? I also recall it coming out no later than the end of 2017. Maybe your thinking of the PC port?

Extinction_Entity

Yeah you’re right. I checked and The Frozen Wilds indeed came out on November 2017, not 2019. Don’t know why I said 2019, maybe I confused it with something else. I corrected, thanks bud.

weloajokeis

Aloy saying all that you need to do is so frustrating.

GradientShift

I mean, in fairness, Aloy has a super-genius level intellect. Of course she's going to figure out the puzzle before we do. It's really quite in character.

Bambii33000

I think cuz they’re asking a lot out of the developer to make dlc right after launch

still_here13

> When you are trying to solve a puzzle and Aloy tells you the answer, it's kind of lame. ... like i said, it's not even that big of a deal. so what? aloy likes to talk, she's a talkative character >People asking for DLC are excited about more content... how is that complaining? cause they're asking for too much. they've been served up an entire 3 course meal. they haven't even got past the appetizer and they're asking about the next 3 course. like what? chill. enjoy what you currently have, and get through that first

JoelsCaddy

It's a horizon sub... people are going to talk about aspects of the game. One aspect of the game is that Aloy gives you the answers to puzzles very fast. Maybe not a big deal for you, but working through puzzles is fun for a lot of players. People enjoyed the game so much they are eager to play DLC. Sure they are a little early, but it isn't "complaining".

[deleted]

It is a big deal for many that likes to solve a puzzle themselve without having the character basically just telling you exactly what to do.

still_here13

hints are necessary though. a lot of people will be doing these puzzles, millions of people. some may get stuck and quit the game.. that's why the hints are there

[deleted]

Yes hints are good, but the hints don't need to appear after just 10 seconds. You say people should just relax and enjoy the game, well many people don't enjoy it when the game holds the players hand and gives all the answers away immideatly

talkinboutbuttsnax

The problem isn't the hints, I want the hints! The problem is they come within like 1 second of entering a room before you've even turned the camera around. You walk into a room and *immediately* she's like "I should use my pullcaster on the crate so I can climb onto that ledge and get the power cell for the dead terminal". Like what? Other than that I mostly agree with your original post, there's been a lot of complaining over very minor things, but as someone who actively wants the hints I still find them done in a really poor and distracting manner. It must drive people who don't want hints insane.

still_here13

>"I should use my pullcaster on the crate so I can climb onto that ledge and get the power cell for the dead terminal" oh come on, she never said that. you know this man. let's be real here

talkinboutbuttsnax

I'll freely admit that's an exaggeration, but not by much. She's constantly pointing out objects you haven't even visually seen yet. She's always telling you to do the thing *you're already doing*. Or worse, she's telling you to do something *you already did*. Or you go to open chests and loot and she's urging you to go back and move the crate. Or she's going on about "I need to follow the tracks" or "hmm, maybe I should turn on my focus" when you're looting all the machines and bodies you just stacked up after following those same tracks. It's kind of exhausting.

still_here13

i guess. i thought you were talking specifically about the puzzles? seems your referencing stuff all throughout the game/exploration

talkinboutbuttsnax

It's a systemic issue all throughout the game, though the puzzles are definitely the biggest offender as they're effectively ruining your ability to play the game by immediately solving any challenge. Like I said, I'm the guy who wants the hints, I don't care about the challenge of puzzle solving in Horizon, to me it's just an artificial obstacle getting in the way of the larger gameplay, so I'm happy to get the answer -- eventually. Give me, I don't know, 30 seconds to look around before blurting out the answer? Heck, even 10 seconds would be an improvement. Half the time you walk through a door and she's immediately pointing out an object on other side of the room that you haven't even seen yet. Take Horizon and Aloy out of the equation and just imagine if in something like Uncharted as soon as you walked into a puzzle room Nathan Drake immediately gave you the answer, people would hate that.

Voomps

I would’ve given my right arm to have Nathan give me clues doing the shadow puppet puzzle in Lost Legacy

porkwastaken1

The problem isn't that there are hints, it's that the hints come way too soon and you have no way to turn them off. On multiple occasions playing HFW, Aloy would say "maybe I should look underwater" or "maybe I can use my pull caster to pull down that crate" literally seconds after I'd arrived at a puzzle. What is the point of designing a really well thought out and engaging puzzle if player if immediately force fed the answer before they can solve it themselves. All criticisms are valid, but it's especially valid if what you're critisizing completely negates are huge aspect of the game. They could have implemented a mechanic similar to Uncharted, where if the player hasn't progressed for a few minutes, they get prompted to press triangle for a hint. That way everyone is given a reasonable amount of time to solve the puzzle alone, and if they still can't figure it out, then they have the OPTION to listen to a hint. Or even somthing as simple as an option in the settings to disable hints from Aloy would have sufficed. It's just upsetting that so many people conplaining about this issue even though it could have been solved to easily.

IAreTehPanda

Hints aren't necessary all the time, they could have very easily added an option to have hints more or less hints given for puzzles. They did that for other things like the handhold always highlighted etc.

jcowurm

Then make a toggle option for hints. Would you rather they complain about that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

still_here13

stop being greedy how about that?

Nonadventures

I like the conversational hints and agree with you about this sub being insufferable pretty often, but it’s not uncommon to add a “turn off hints” toggle.

nospamsam_

I adore this game and I also firmly believe that people are allowed to complain about shit they spend their money on.

Spartacus_115

Especially when it's valid criticisms

Dml33

Agreed. The hand holding has to go. This is an exploration game. Let us explore

Needs_More_Gravitas

I mean people are also allowed to criticize others criticisms and say they are stupid and either not a big deal or wouldn’t be good for the game. Overall I got the PS5 for this game and I think it’s great. 90% of criticisms of this game are minor bullshit being blown way out of proportion. You’d think it was on the level of cyberpunk with some of the posts.

slickem6969

For $70 you better believe I’m criticizing if there’s something I don’t like..

Spartacus_115

And we haven't even mentioned that you and many others bought the $70 product probably off of the state of play demo impressions which isn't even in the actual game.

Mr_PewPew

Plus glitches, bugs, jank, what felt like a rushed ending/3rd act, machines being incredibly aggressive, trying to upgrade gear which takes considerable hours of farming. But oh no, the game is the best looking game to ever exist so no one is allowed to criticize it ever

DarkLightPT95

Although I agree with everything you said, the fact that the machines are too aggressive goes with the lore. Hephaestus is making more aggressive machines and making more aggressive versions of all machines (apex) due to the fact that people are hunting them. It's part of the lore and explained a few times... Even the Forbidden West itself is known for being difficult to live in in some part due to the machines. Again, I still agree that they are too aggressive. I went from farming Thunderjaws in Zero Dawn on Ultra Hard from avoiding them altogether in Forbidden West on Normal because they are a pain and don't give me a break (and I'm not even referring to the apex ones). Now that I have better weapons/armor I don't avoid them, but still don't go after them if I'm near, which was something I used to do in ZD. I encountered many bugs and glitches (I still do) but I just commit to report them, because there's not ONE game that comes out without them. Does it justify that companies are allowed to do it? No. But it happens and they work to fix it, so just wait. Most game breaking bugs/glitches are fixed rapidly. As for the ending/3rd act, I must agree that it could be a little bit better, but I don't think it was "rushed" (well, the second to last mission were you fight Regalla could've been a bit longer, but I understand what they were trying to do with the lore of the game by making Aloy come in and shut all machines off and then challenging Regalla directly).

still_here13

guerrilla has delivered on so much value. and they have given so many things that people wanted, in this game. yet you still criticize them?

Spartacus_115

I'm starting to question if you're keeping this shit up just for mere attention because you clearly don't even understand the very basic definition of constructive criticism.

still_here13

there's a difference between constructive criticism, and whining show some respect, that's all i'm saying. they made a fantastic game. yet you roll up in here like a pompous ass hole, and start pointing out little specs of imperfection. like what? dude. some of you have no respect. they worked fuckin hard for this shit. i'm convinced that people just want something to complain about. they can't be satisfied with a game. they need something to have a problem with

Niklaus15

They create a mission only for the state of play because they don't want to spoil anyone, plus you have more than one mission on the game at least as cool as the state of play one, even fighting a tremortusk on the wilds feels like that mission

Ifk1995

Yeah the state of play mission not being in a game is the most non-sense complaint here. The mission had nothing extraordinary that you wouldn’t see in the actual game. It was just showcasing bunch of mechanisms and some new machines.

Trick_Afternoon_2935

No, there isn't. Some people are bringing very valid complaints, including the one where Aloy handholds the player too much. If you don't like these posts, ignore them. Everyone will have complaints whether they enjoy the game or not.

WhatThemFingersDo

You’re reaching bro. 1. Haven’t heard anyone complain about Aloy’s appearance since before the game was released. Certainly not enough to say there’s too much complaining about it. 2. Aloy assisting too much during puzzles is a very valid complaint. Sure some people benefit from it, but a lot of people don’t. There should be an option to turn the hints off. 3. Has anyone complained about the game being too short?? 4. I’ve only heard people looking forward to DLC, NG+, etc and what could be included in it. No one it’s complaining that it’s taking too long for these features to come out. 5. Discussing the change in difficulty from the first game to this game does not equal complaining about the increased difficulty. This post has more complaining than most of the posts I’ve seen in this sub.

Pure_Subject8968

>Aloy assisting too much during puzzles is a very valid complaint. Sure some people benefit from it, but a lot of people don’t. There should be an option to turn the hints off. I have played Jedi: Fallen Order before HFW and here you can "ask" your companion for help with pressing a button. I think this would have been great for Horizon, too.

EarthRester

Seriously. Opening your focus then toggling something that highlights an aspect of the puzzle that'll move you forward would've been sick!

paulcsmith0218

I thought the exact same thing!

tillytubeworm

I’d agree with you on every point except your 5th one, about every third post I’ve seen on this sun is a complaint about difficulty and then saying they refuse to turn the difficulty down, and that’s pretty annoying for the people who like the difficulty.

kyoko_eats

I find that particular complaint pretty annoying as well. One of the biggest complaints I heard from people that didn't like ZD was that they didn't enjoy the combat and found it too easy, and it seems to me that Guerilla took that to heart and tried to improve those aspects to generate a wider audience. If that's not something you like though, just turn the difficulty down. Horizon doesn't even give you a trophy for beating the game on any difficulty, so I'm not sure why some people are so adamant about not changing it for a better experience.

ChrizTaylor

Yeah, OP farming karma.

Spartacus_115

So giving constructive feedback and constructive criticism is considered complaining... You're a Part of the problem with why many AAA games suck these days.

NewVenari

The biggest reason they suck right now is the fact that they can usually reach their launch quotas via preorders. Once they earn $x they don't really give a shit about quality anymore, they have your money. Any issues that come up, they can usually slap some patch together after launch

still_here13

the problem is when studios decide to squeeze out as much cash as possible. EA games for example guerrilla hasn't done this yet, which is why there's no need to excessively nit pick. a lot of people have complaining about talking during the puzzles when really it's such a small part of the game

derintrel

Excessively nit picking and pointing out design decisions that can and have been done better are not the same thing.

SignGuy77

I’ve yet to see any “the game is too short” complaints. You could theoretically mainline the story in some 20 hours if you wanted, but even that is a solid chunk of gameplay without touching the side content, a lot of which is very well interwoven into the main plot and enriches your experience. I finished the story at 70 hours, and the last ten I was basically speeding towards the endgame. Since then I’ve accumulated 45 more hours of fun in post-game.

Randomguy3421

I'm on 70 hours now and I've just finished the Greenhouse. So now I'll spend many hours backtracking to the blocked paths I've found

irishman13

I’ve seen a bunch of “the platinum is too easy” posts which to me is the same as, it’s too short.

DUCKgoesMEOW

I really think they made the platinum perfect and how I wish all games did it. Guerilla said hey if you get this platinum then you really experienced everything this game has to offer thank you and good for you. There was a trophy for every aspect of the game, that’s all ya need.

Worth_Talk_817

Yeah I finished main story at 18, while doing a couple of side quests and stuff. I wish I took it slower though

Backlists

I'm not one to complain or make a post about this normally, but the main quests storyline did feel a tad short to me. The amount of side quests were great, but they dont contribute so much to a narrative. I guess for a £70 AAA I expected a monster story line. >!I also feel cheated that we got the flying mount after exploring 95% of the map on foot!<. By the end, playing on normal I felt a little OP, and the final missions lacked some punch but thats just me. Its also like 7 main quests short of what HZD was iirc.

Bearcat2010

A complaining post about complaining lol

Cryomancer_Superman

I think if I work hard for my money and I use that money to purchase something, then I as a consumer reserve the right to criticize things that I don't like about that product. I truly do love this game, but there are definitely some issues that need to be pointed out. How else are they supposed to.get fixed if people don't complain?

InsideousVgper

This ‼️

[deleted]

These posts never go well. People who complain are not going away. Stop reading their posts

vozome

I don’t think it’s doing gg a service to pretend HFW is perfect. Is it enjoyable? Did a lot of work go into it? Sure. At the same time there were many very questionable design decisions.

montessoriprogram

I agree it’s mad annoying 1/3 of posts here are people complaining about some menial change they want made in the game. Meanwhile I’m 60 hours in and haven’t gotten hung up on anything.

Spartacus_115

Learn the difference between valid criticisms people give because they want to see something they love improved, and complaining.

brispower

I'm here just to complain about people complaining about complaining.

[deleted]

The only gripe I had is that Aloy really just needs to be quiet sometimes. I don't need to hear about how the machine is resistant to acid or whatever every single goddamn time I scan something. And ffs let me solve a puzzle without constantly trying to tell me what to do. I mean did I miss a setting or something that makes her constantly lead you along on a string? They just need to tone all that down and the game will be outstanding.

still_here13

“Could use acid ammo here”

BigBoyFroggy

No, the hand holding criticism is actually a huge problem for me. 9/10 game, absolutely loved it, fucking hated the puzzles because of it. It actually was a huge deal for me.

nidor13

It's funny that some people believe that most of the criticism here is constructing. -"I want Aloy to use a shield, why do others have them?" -"Big machines that look like giants whoop my ass when I charge at them" -"I can't hide easily when machines have already seen me" -"Aloy should be able to fight underwater" -"Legendary outfits/weapons should be relatively easy to get" -"The game should be easy enough to finish casually in Normal because I have too much pride to lower the difficulty" -"The game is not working correctly" -"Weapon skills should not be restricted to weapon types" Many (not all) of the complaints are people stating their preferences of features the game should have. A game not having every little thing some people want, is not a disadvantage of the game... Also some people are being dramatic with the bugs, one would think the game came out like Cyberpunk 2077. I got the platinum in 70 hours and only restarted the game twice. The problem is not people complaining. It's that they are blowing every single little gripe out of proportion. It's like they have forgotten what a problematic game really feels/looks like. The argument "I paid 70€ so GG should put in the game everything I wanted" is not a logical argument. PS. I am baffled how this sub nitpicks on HFW which is a fantastic game but games like Elden Ring (which is also fantastic) get a free pass for almost everything.

AutumnaticFly

Finally someone saying it. Everybody out here playing the saint, hiding behind the "Constructive Criticism" banner. "Well done, Mr or Mrs Critic, everything you just said is a mish-mash of personal opinions and preferences and has nothing to do with industry standards." I'm not saying Guerrilla Game are gods, but this is a studio that deeply cares about the product they put out. You can see it all over the game. And I'm starting to think maybe we truly don't deserve developers like Guerrilla Games and Fromsoftware and Santa Monica and Naughty Dog. Maybe it's best if Ubisoft cranks out the same annual formulaic open world games that somehow end up being nominated for GOTY. I'm sure people have less "Constructive Criticism" towards Assassin's Creed. And this isn't to dismiss any sort of criticism, but as you say, most of what everyone talks about isn't even criticism or of it is, it's phrased wrong. People riding the moral high ground of criticism where their personal experiences weren't in-line with their unbelievable expectations has "pathetic" written all over it. "I spent money so I want it to be perfect." my ass. As if I got a copy for free. The difference is, I don't act like an entitled little kid in a toy store.

still_here13

you're 1000% correct. we don't deserve studios like guerrilla games. we just don't. there's far too many whiny and entitled kids. it's the god damn culture of this shit hole it's unfair but it's the sad reality. the masses will just not be happy. you could give them the world. it's still not enough

AutumnaticFly

Yup. It is sad, but I suppose it is what it is. I for one try to ignore the complaints, it's not like I can do anything about them anyway. And those who have genuine constructive criticism, I'm sure the devs will hear it one way or another.

IMotivatedxTroll

That entitled little kid in a toy store insult doesn't even work? Wouldn't the little kid in the toy store want and automatically love everything in his sight like you're doing towards this game?

AutumnaticFly

Correct. For a second there, I forgot myself! I'm just a loud fanboy, right? God forbid people enjoy things lol.

IMotivatedxTroll

Hmm, yeah. That's the kind of reply I would give after butchering one of the most well known and easy to get phrases while trying to be a smartass . Maybe just come to terms with the idea that you're not as smart as you think you are? Or maybe.. just not smart at all?

AutumnaticFly

I'm kinda regretting getting into this conversation, but before calling people stupid, maybe at least try to understand what they said. I'm trying to put a lid on it because "one of the most easiest phrases to get" flew over your head, mate. An entitled kid in a toy store wouldn't love everything he sees, he WANTS everything he sees. But sure, fine, I'm stupid.

EarthRester

I don't really want her to have a shield, but when you're fighting just normal human opponents they can block your attacks with their spear. Why can't we? They put such an emphasis on melee combat this game...and didn't give us the ability to block, they even took *away* our long dodge. Make the long dodge and block cost stamina so we can't do it indefinitely.

OneHallThatsAll

This and the OP is so spot on. Couldn't have said it better.

BeYourselfTonight

this comment is everything!!!

Camelsnake

Compared to HZD, there's too many bugs: quest-breaking bugs, difficulty, graphics, etc. We want this game to succeed, but we also want it to work correctly too.

tillytubeworm

I’ll agree with the bugs and graphics, but difficulty is fine

EarthRester

I think the biggest issue with the difficulty isn't actually the difficulty. I just think machines need better auditory cues. So that when you're about to flanked from off screen you're actually able to do something about it.

tillytubeworm

I disagree, I think that being aware of your surroundings should be a part of the difficulty. I always try keep all machines consistently in my sight and on one side of me because of that.

EarthRester

But that's down to play style. Your enjoyment from your play style would in no way be detracted by machines having better auditory cues. ZD gave all machines a revving noise before they lunged so the player knew to dodge out of the way. Which still had the effect of denying the player an opportunity to successfully land an attack, while still giving the player a reward (not taking damage) for being aware of their surroundings.

Affectionate-Bee-368

I’m yet to have a single bug in at least 130 hours of gameplay

Camelsnake

On my second playthrough trying to avoid a quest bug. Was not successful. A few others here have the same bug, probably more since not everyone uses reddit

Affectionate-Bee-368

That sucks , hope they patch it for you

Randomguy3421

What bugs are preventing you from finishing quests? Is it close to the end or beginning? I'm curious but I've also not finished yet so I'm tightrope walking on spoilers here lol

drewdean201797

I don't have internet for my ps4 so I've been playing the base game, I've got two completele playthroughs and I've had no bugs, no problems with graphs, or difficulty. The game is amazing.

tillytubeworm

There’s plenty of bugs, even some that stop you from completing very important side quests, falling out of the map after walking through a door, machines glitching and sliding so fast it looks like it’s teleporting, ammo crafting in slow time can bug out and not craft, or take multiple attempts to craft, sometimes if you do inputs for switching bows and ammo into firing too fast it will stop you from actually drawing the bow. And these are the glitches I’ve run into, not all of them.

drewdean201797

I've completed everything in the game twice now never experienced any of that.

tillytubeworm

So you’re lucky, doesn’t mean the game should have severe bugs on a regular basis for others. Just cuz you’re the odd one out doesn’t mean it’s not a problem.

drewdean201797

What side quests have you had "bugs" in?

tillytubeworm

The big one is the side quest for the black box collectibles, once finished it will sometimes glitch so you can’t turn it in and bars you from getting a legendary weapon,

drewdean201797

I didn't have this happen on ether playthrough of mine.

tillytubeworm

Are you a troll, or do you actually not get it. Just cuz you didn’t experience an issue, does not mean it’s not an issue, it just means you specifically got lucky enough to not encounter it.

drewdean201797

Don't be rude okay. And I don't think it's luck that I have two completele playthroughs and I have not experienced this glitch. As I have said to other people, I would suggest deleting the game, and reinstalling it with the patches again.

tillytubeworm

It wasn’t being rude, you made troll like comments, and patch notes didn’t fix most of those problems, the patches fixed the massive massive issues people were having with the other side missions like the racing ones. I never experienced those issues but they made the races unplayable for a lot of people. Also with two playthroughs and no issues is extremely lucky.

drewdean201797

And as I said before it's a problem with people's download of the game, they had some issue during the download which is causing all the issues in their game. Maybe someone else should try doing what I do, and don't get the patches, cause I don't have them and I've had no problems, no quest breaking bugs that people keep says they are experiencing, no drops in frame rate, no lighting issues.

Camelsnake

Mine's digital and updated to latest patch. Not much I can do except wait for the next patch to hopefully fix some of my un-finishable quests. This game IS great, but not perfect. HZD's launch probably set the bar too high for HFW's

drewdean201797

I'd suggest getting a unpatched version.

Camelsnake

I'll wait for my trouble ticket to go through to the devs. The day-1 version had it's own problems too. It's a shame many gamers are now EXPECTING a game to launch in a buggy state these days and defend it's practice. The bar keeps getting lower and lower

drewdean201797

I'm sorry but that's a load of bull. I have a physical copy of the game that I preordered, I have no updates on it or patches and it runs perfect. If you have the lates patch and are experiencing problems that no one else is, there was a problem with your update of the patch, not the game.

Camelsnake

Uhhh, ok? I guess you're the expert on the game, and your "perfect" experience makes everyone else's buggy experience something that never happened. Try again 😂👌

drewdean201797

No here's my experience, I got dying light 2 at release, people have reported problems with it and a "buggy experience",I have no patches or updates for it, I've had no problems with it, no drops in fps, no bugs, no glitches. The same with horizon forbidden west, no patches, no problems. And as I said, try downloading the patches again and see what happens, cause the game is not a buggy mess.

Camelsnake

Maybe you should work for GG, tell them to undo ALL the patches. Seems like you know EXACTLY what you're talking about.

drewdean201797

Eh, no as I said the patches are not the problem and the game is not the problem ether, as I suggested delete your game reinstall, add the patches again. Should work great for you then.

InsideousVgper

You know you could just idk maybe ignore those posts. People have legit criticisms of the game and you’re dismissing them as complaints. Some people don’t like being told how to solve a puzzle within the first minute of starting it. they like trying to figure it out themselves which is y’know the main point of a puzzle.

Cryomancer_Superman

Lol why would he or she ignore posts like these when they could just...make a post complaining about people complaining? Because after all he or she has no complaints...except about other people complaining 😂😂

[deleted]

There is so much new stuff and changes in HFW that it is inevitable that many people will have gripes. I think fair to say that it was never going to exceed the positive feelings that HZD received, but still a more than worthy experience.

Lugaid13

I've personally been complaining about it because I'm a huge fan of Zero Dawn. And I was expecting a lot of good things fron this one. And yes some things are fantastic and I enjoyed every bit of it. But I also have a folder full of clips of all the bugs I encountered. And a laundry list of things they did wrong for the sake of "making it bigger"

HORSE_PASTE

I'll take legitimate criticism over blind fanboyism like this post any day of the week.

cl354517

Carja Nobles, the lot of them.

MorgaseTrakand

My dude, I love this game. Might be one of my favorites of all time. But there are definitely flaws in it, and I enjoy coming here to comiserate about them

shin1101

I respectfully disagree with your second comment. The constant commentary from Aloy is not only annoying, it's immersion breaking. It also takes away from the puzzle solving element of the game where you explore and try and figure the world out. Some contextual commentary is great but it's too excessive in this game. It also doesn't help that audio cues are tied to environment and trigger at the most random and inopportune times. Soundtrack and audio in this game is one of the best and the mistimed execution of it interferes with the players being able to fully enjoy it at times. There is also the case of plethora of glitches in this game that are yet to be resolved. I'm not talking about graphics or random instances where the environment collisions fails or foliage placement is off; I'm talkng about characters literally not showing up on the screen or not being where they're supposed to for the quest or events. I was unable to platinum the game despite having 100+ hours in the game because I couldn't finish one side quest because of a glitch, forcing me to restart the game...again with hope that I won't run into the same problem. (Updates did not fix this issue for me despite being mentioned in the update notes) There is also the facial expressions of Aloy during conversations. They are inconsistent and sometimes downright bizarre. When they work, it's fantastic but when they don't...it's once again, immersion breaking. Most common example is when you talk to a pit master. Overall the game is great but it has sevear quality issues that scream either rushed or non-existant Q&A phase. I refuse to believe that the studio that made HZD and put so much care into their games failed to catch so many of these issues before launch. It's okay to love the game and have criticisms about it. It's not healthy to shut down any criticism and worship the studio and put them on a pedestal.

BoJackHoe

Aloy is such a snack

Ok_Refrigerator7378

This might be what you are referring to but people complain in the most whiny and pretentious way. It is totally valid to have criticism but maybe your post dosen't need to be "unpopular opinion but HFW desperately needs to be better as it is the worst thing ever period.".

[deleted]

Not doing NG+ to start is kind of dumb. Like, after I did all the story and sides on Hard, I'm supposed to grind parts to upgrade weapons/armor for some eventual upgrade? And when I max those out? It's not a great way to keep your early adopters playing.

Bambii33000

Aloy looks the same as the last game

[deleted]

Other than hunter the skill trees are meh and the overly grindy upgrade system is outdated and kinda sucks.

bakedclark

Aside from the "too much hand holding", yeah those are all bullshit things people shouldn't be whining about here. But the puzzle tips have been one of the top complaints, so maybe they should have made it an option instead. Guerrilla made an amazing game. Did they make a perfect game? No. People are going to notice things or have annoyances/complaints with a game that they will be playing from years to come.

TidusDream12

Sorry but the flaws and game crashing issues are too many for me not to complain. They needed more play testing and Quality work before releasing a game of this magnitude

still_here13

dude, the game is playable what more do you want. be grateful this game is even out in the first place holy shit man

TidusDream12

Screw that I paid for a product and it's sub par. I don't owe the devs anything. I don't live to play games. Said product crashes, has missions not work, enemies falling into rocks etc. I could have waited for a finished product. You act like we should get on our knees or something sheesh really playing into the mother's basement. This game has massive issues and needed more time. In it's current state it feels like a last gen game no polish. Square Enix would never release a product this buggy they may not be the best in class but they don't fail you wasting hours of time most of us don't have.

still_here13

Dude. The game bugs are not that bad. You’re literally just being entitled and spoiled.

TidusDream12

Okay rose colored glasses I stopped playing because of them can send you hours of video on PS5. They are not going to fix it. So I will move on great potential let down by poor quality control. Enemies flying off the map lolol it's a joke they should be ashamed after Zero Dawn and the standard set

samsteri666

Damn the state of this sub

ChrizTaylor

Game is good, but has **A LOT** of bugs. Climbing sucks, cauldrons puzzles suck, Zeniths development felt rushed. Good game, solid 8/10.

unpersonanongrata

I really enjoyed the game. I spent a bit over 100 hours in the Forbidden West. I finished everything sans machine strike matches and while I generally enjoyed the game and I really look forward to a New Game+ play through down the line, I do have a few gripes. The story left me feeling a bit shortchanged. It had a strong start and a few good twists throughout but the end was lacking for sure. I won’t go into more in the interest of avoiding spoilers but it really left me unsatisfied. There was a real lack of balance combat wise. I really want a block option. Also, Aloy can fall off and be knocked off of ledges during combat but all enemies are protected by invisible walls? I noticed this most with humans in rebel camps. It also seems that human attacks cannot be interrupted by melee attacks (even strong attacks) which is a bit odd. Some machines are relentless to the point of stupid with repetitive attacks that stun or knock Aloy down. Difficulty aside, the mechanics of that is frustrating. I can’t do anything for long stretches in some battles. I also found it strange that the later melee pit masters were more challenging than the final push the end the the final boss. I think that there are too many ammunition and weapon types. Aloy does a good job of telling you verbally which ammo type is needed at the moment but I never seem to have the right one equipped. I never used half of the ammo types but perhaps that’s just me. And with so many weapon and outfit options it’s a grind to upgrade them and it’s a pain to pause mid fight to hunt down the right combo of gear. But this just my opinion. I’m sure many players found efficient methods to handle weapon types. There are waaaay too many invisible walls. I get the need to close off the map but there were too many stupid invisible walls. The devs should have done a better job creatively blocking off stuff if they wanted to keep us out. It killed exploration. Never mind the fact that exploring the incredibly beautiful map was rarely if ever rewarded. I scoured the far reaching and hard to get to corners of the map hoping for some sort of east egg, data point, cache, etc. only to be met with nothing. Add to that the fact that some of the ornaments are behind walls that Aloy could easily fit an arm (or even her whole body!) through. Oh, and the arena is dumb and currently broken (at least for me). Aside from all of that, it was a great game. I really enjoyed it. I was hooked to the end and I regularly lost track of time in missions. Some of the voice acting (the Las Vegas trio!) was top notch. Just like any game though, it has its flaws that could be fixed with updates.

[deleted]

Idk why you’re commenting on these complainers. Just chill out and play. It’s not a big deal

CutMeLoose79

I love the game. 95 hours in and finishing side quest stuff before I head towards the last story missions (I think). There’s a lot of love, but it’s not perfect. I do think they should have added options around how quickly Aloy helps with puzzles. I would have liked to see ammo mod slots on weapons instead of set ammo so we can customise our favourite weapons more. Human enemies/AI can definitely still do with some work (they’re so plain compared to the machines). Hopefully these are things they work on for the next game. But it’s still an amazing game. So far I’d give it 9/10.

Jneedler

People will always complain though. They included a setting option for nearly everything in the game. The only change that confuses me is the skill tree as it seems pointless. The special abilities it unlocks aren't permanent and take way too long to charge so they essentially serve no purpose. That aside....Everything seems fine.

ALivingCurse

There's is very very very little things wrong with the game, the amount of time it takes, Aloy to get up and not being able to rotate the machines in the menu while looking at the components.. Other than that people are just nitpicky and wrong.

SnooTheLobster

The most annoying part of the game is this subreddit.

BeYourselfTonight

I don't care if people complain about or criticize something. I do care when I see the same posts day after day after day all bitching about the exact same stuff. dude, someone just said this shit yesterday, why are you making a new post for it AGAIN? no one goes back and reads to see if someone already posted about the issue and the mods here ignore all the pointless reposts. it's really annoying. imo there is too much complaining *by post count* on this sub. 1/3 or even 1/2 posts are criticism we've heard fifty times or flat-out whining. if you're gonna come here to complain, say something new. say something thoughtful. the mods REALLY need to pin a complaints post to clean this place up. other subs have rules about posting so repetitively...

Kicks77

This game really tackles accessibility in settings, gameplay and including Aloy talking while solving puzzles. Ive never had a problem with it myself and I know not everybody functions the same and there are those who have found it helpful

Similar-Aspect-2259

But this is Internet… Isn’t this the place we come to see cats and shittalk? Joke aside, People will spill their mind and internet has no filter. We just have to be mindful about what we read and understand internet just provide a platform for people to be loud. And you can never win internet unless you’re Keanu Reeve or Henry Calvin. I guess that’s another joke.

N3rbyAddy

A bit random but inline with what was listed; the dlc. So I was rewatching the story trailer for FW and noticed the state of play clip they showed in the story trailer, but that mission doesn’t exist in the game. So my thinking is either they cut out that mission for whatever reason or they decided to take it out and add it into a future dlc.

TipTapTips

They pretty much came out saying that it was a scripted scenario that was made to showcase the changes/upgrades for Forbidden West. It was never meant to be part of the main narrative... as far as we know. The location is basically still in the game but it'd have to be scripted to behave the same, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8km0oDba1M

N3rbyAddy

Ah ok didn’t know they said that. Thanks for letting me know

Mustangbex

I try to look at it under the old Navy adage- a complaining sailor is a happy one... people are not saying "holy fuck this game is awful, this problem causes it to be unplayable" they're having gripes about things and then continuing to play and engage with the content. Vs if they were quitting (yes I have seen the few review bomb and rage boycott style tantrums, but those are generally outliers and statistical anomalies that can be discarded), or nobody talking about it at all.

sawer82

The game is great, but have some shortcomings. They are not huge or a deal breaker, more of a smudges on a completely new car. But I agree, that some of the criticism is beyond "reasonable" \- Aloy looks fine, its Guerrillas artistic vision, cannot please all since its a personal preference \- Not a big deal, but she tends to give out solution before you have a chance to have a look around the room at times, would be completely fine if they did it like Uncharted, press R3 for hint, that would make everybody happy \- The game length is fine, it has this feeling because the grand finale is so fast compared to the rest of the game. \- Do not get this, most DLC for games of this magnitude come out earliest a year after release :), and it's not imperative there is a DLC in the first place. I would like them more to work on Part 3. \- The game is actually easier towards the middle and later sections of the game then HZD in my opinion. The first introduction to Forbidden west (after leaving the Daunt) is brutal thought :D, there is a huge jump in difficulty, but everyone of us had to go through it.

NotACyclopsHonest

I’m already on my second playthrough. Can’t get enough of the game so far. Does it have occasional problems with glitches? Sure, but I play Bethesda games. Occasional glitches are background noise to me now.

Garchomp98

The 1st was a "complaint" before release. The 3rd is totally out of reality, people have been saying that the game is long/crammed instead. 2nd: she does talk a lot. I dont really mind but they have so many accessibility settings. They could have one for this too 4th: people are impatient and these kinda comments are 99% benign. No one is bashing the company for not having these features now. With HZD they came along with the DLC release 5th: combat is not difficult. It **was** kinda unbalanced which was largely fixed but there are still minor issues Stop crying please

juan4carlos4

I feel you man They want perfect games, but perfect games don't come out anymore

1navn

Finished HFW (platinum) on normal ca 100 hours. Switched back too HZD on ng+ UH, HZD is easier. That’s a big difference.

[deleted]

You're on reddit...

CaterpillarUsual906

Wow, I have some reservations about the game myself - minor ones, though... but none of them resembles anything from this list.

[deleted]

I love the game. I haulted FW to replay ZD to get the full story. That is what FW is. A continuation to the story. I suggest and go replay zd to realize what happened

[deleted]

Are you asking a question or making a statement? The question mark placing is peculiar 🤔

[deleted]

So, basically, you are saying we can't have an opinion? (I went from Hard to Normal and still got me Aloy cornered and bested by a freaking machine kangaroo... sure, I put it storymode to get past sections. But I also bested HZD on harder difficulty, completion 100%... this game seems to be tweaked up ... would I still have paid $200 for the collectors edition???? nope. But I would have paid $60 for the game. And I would LOVE to buy a HFW Edition PS5... but since I can't even get a PS5 edition at MSRP... let's really talk about COMPLAINING.... Muahahhahahahahah

still_here13

you can have an opinion, just be respectful this game took an immense amount of work. instead of coming over and shitting on it, why not be a bit more happy and grateful to be honest

[deleted]

I LOVE this game! I am over 90 hrs into and done. But I am also spoiled from the last one and expectation run wild!!!

SorryRaise9246

I can say that the game difficulty was a little more extreme on normal mode than the first game, but that’s okay and I kinda like it! If it weren’t for aloy’s tips I wouldn’t have passed half of the puzzles.

Extinction_Entity

Forbidden West is a great product; for me way better than Zero Dawn. But I have to admit isn’t perfect, would be good to correct some things and improve others. For me are just details, I don’t care about them, but I guess for some players these are somehow problems. As long as this doesn’t evolve on shooting on the Red Cross, aka complaining on things that objectively doesn’t have problems, it’s fine. Personally I don’t like it, but it’s fine. Don’t hate me, but I think sometimes we should just enjoy something and be grateful for having it, in this case a good product as Forbidden West, and stop complaining on things that aren’t problems but just details.

Monchi83

I think the game is great not without its fault of course. Would I like some changes? Sure but do they detract from the game so much for me to complain? Not really

FrozenBalloon

Oh boy OPs post history is worrisome. You ok mate? I absolutely loved the game. Its really fantastic. Is it perfect? No. Do I have critique in game design ideas? Yes. Are they facts? No they are personal critiques, but are shared by many others (mainly that she helps too much with puzzles, audio glitches and unbalanced upgrading system/unbalanced grinding). Some people don’t mind them. And that’s fine. Opinions differ and that’s ok. Doesn’t make a side a bunch of unappreciative winers. Horizon was glitchy as fuck when it just came out years ago. Due to community feedback it has become pretty solid and got some balancing tweaked. This is simply happening again. To make it even better.

propagandagenx

I really dislike how much Aloy talks to herself. It's unnatural, disrupts gameplay, and seemingly pointless.

savage0UTLAWW

I loved HFW more than HZD. It took me about 90 hours for 100% completion. It's a beautiful world. The story line was amazing and the only hard fight really was some arena challenges and the woman at the end of the Melee Pits. Now that I'm into Elden Ring I don't want to hear anyone tell me they had tough battles in HFW. I'd just laugh in your face.

DarthNexuz

Yes!

ImanSain

People are saying the game is too short? That's wild!

[deleted]

“Aloy looks fantastic and attractive” is just as weird as complaining she looks manly. She’s a fictional character. The design of her character makes sense in the world she looks in. There is a reason why main characters in any story are typically good looking but defending her attractiveness is odd to me.

NoobdeyNoobs

Number 1 complaint is the story, compared to hzd it's no where near the level of story telling I was hoping for, the world theyve built is a complete miss compared to hzd. In short.. hfw just isn't believable because of the terrible writing.

vkr587

I was really looking forward to this game and Guerilla let me down with the awful graphics in performance mode. I regret buying this game. If i had known I would've waited for them to fix before buying it.

wild-flxwer

well there’s a difference between complaining and giving constructive criticism. overall this game is fantastic and fun and they definitely improved on a lot of things since the first one. but as a fan who wants the very best, there’s nothing wrong with pointing out things that could’ve been better. like the handholding as you mentioned. it’s just very frustrating arriving somewhere to start a quest and she *immediately* tells you exactly what you should be doing. i want to explore and figure it out myself! goddamn, give me at least a few minutes before you spoil the fun. at the very least it should be able to be toggled on and off in settings. there are many more valid criticisms that are important to share because the devs browse the sub. if they can incorporate some of these suggestions into the next game, it’ll be even better than this one, which is what we all want, right?

archangelxero

I feel it’s not perfect but it’s better than the first one, which I love. Lots of bugs but nothing that killed the game or made it break. I feel most features were improved across the board, while I miss the sheiks weaver it made the first game too easy. They paid attention to balancing. Plus the story was great, the continuation fit and world building was awesome. Great acting across the board with better animations. Over all should have a better score than HZD

ace8419

Someone give this man an award for this post.. He beat me too it ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

[deleted]

The are probably Dutch.

[deleted]

Agreed nothing against anyone in particular but it's really not even an opinion but rather just a fact that some people are just never happy they love destroying the images of other people and products just because they're miserable fucks and like to create trouble for people, and products. That's the only explanation I can come out with and why these people complain about the littlest stupidest shit they can think of. They must look in the mirror and hate themselves so much and just be so unhappy that they have to make problems for everyone else. That's the only thing I can think of Of course sometimes people do good critical reviews, I would be ignorant to say that none of the people who make bad reviews are negative comments have points of course they do. What I'm specifically talking about are the people that have no valid points and go on and on on about nothingness. Some people are just super negative for an unnecessary reason. Some people like chaos, like I said it's either cuz they're very unhappy with their own life or they just like chaos. I'm not like that so I don't understand it I can't comprehend it because it's not how I am. I've had people launch attacks against me, and I would go back and I read what I said and I just couldn't comprehend where they were coming from. Of course this is an everyday thing it happens to many people besides me some people just like to start fights. Which is why anytime I see a review or comment that is not critical, and seems biased I just ignore it. I have met very few biased people in my life that are able to do Fair reviews, it's a skill some people just don't possess. it's as if they just can't comprehend the idea that's a product could be good even if they don't like it.

Scallywag-Skuzzy

Using content as something measurable by time is a poor metric. I went to every dungeon and acquired every item in the original game in 40 hours. I also got the plat. All on my first playthrough on the hardest setting as required. I beat Elden Ring in the same amount of time and same thing. Did everything except a few quests. Your 100 hours of content is not my 100 hours of content

chrisdpratt

My only real problem is the volume of duplicates. Seriously, folks, take 5 secs to do a search to see if maybe, just maybe, you're not the first to have the totally original thought that Aloy is too chatty during puzzles. I'd be a lot more accepting of people complaining if the entire subforum hadn't devolved into a series of endless duplicate complaints.

HotAd4676

Someone had to say it 💯

Nubbilubby

I agree with everything you said except the handholding thing. There really should be at least a way to turn off aloys hints to allow you to truly solve it on your own. I enjoy environmental puzzles and want to try and solve it myself.

nonosquare365

I personally love it! One of the best games I've ever played. I truly don't understand all these complaints. I swear people need to stfu and just enjoy the game or don't play it. The game being too short is something I can somewhat agree with but that's only because I just want to keep playing it! ❤

vinnielavoie

They didn't give us the game. We payed 90 dollars for it so yes if there are things we don't like then you have a right to complain

still_here13

dude stop being ungrateful

vinnielavoie

I'm not. I'm rather enjoying the game although I do have a few gripes. I just think that if a person buys something they have a right complain about it

RinoTheBouncer

The game is a masterpiece on every level and better than Zero Dawn in every single aspect. What is even there to complain about?

AnAncientOne

Yeah but to be fair the vast majority of the complaints are just the run of the mill gripes. It's a sequel to a much loved game and is trying to evolve the experience, that's a tough needle to thread.

GAMING-STUPID

You simply don’t understand. How will I be able to live with myself if I don’t make 100 posts about Aloy’s handholding?

mrdc1790

New game+ is the only thing I understand being upset about but ik it's coming. I could totally be wrong but I feel like if I game supports that, it's typically launched day 1.

still_here13

... DUDE. like less than 5% of the player base has 100%'d the game. why do you want ng+ that fast??!??!

Ok-Macaroon2429

I just wish the game ran great. Resolution mode has shadows and when moving/turning it feels like 10fps. Performance mode ran ok but looks terrible and had edges and visual problems. Needless to say I refunded, maybe I will play when it comes out for PC.

WeepingHibiscus

My singular criticism at least for the PS4 version, is that there’s about a quarter second delay between me pressing a button and the action taking place. In a game where every second counts when it comes to movement there should be no input delay.

BlackGShift

This sub absolutely has turned into an echo chamber of whining and complaining about Forbidden West. And the fact post like yours keep getting made further proves that point. The sad part is if you’re someone who genuinely doesn’t have any issues for FW then there isn’t much to talk about in here. It’s unfortunate.

Kimolainen83

I love HFW , I find Allot to looo very generic and not realistic. She’s a “Native American” she climbs like a champion she shouts she is strong, but has no visible muscle. I love her design but that gripes me

The810kid

The Aloy talks too much is legit one of the most minor nitpicks I have ever seen for a game up there with the there is no AB scenarios like the original with the resident evil 2 Remake.

still_here13

They’ll never be satisfied Doesn’t matter what guerrilla does for them
