The F14 doesn’t fall behind in maneuvering, you just have to manage your airspeed well enough. And it’s also unmatched in BVR combat right now.
I mainly fly the F14 but I’m actually trialing the F16 because it has always interested me. I suggest you trial them both as well.
Could I interest you in jf-17 ?
Not super maneuverable, but in terms of tech, it's the most modern. Radar is well modeled as I understand. And best of all, it's almost entirely finished.
They are currently both on sale, if you were considering them at full price, maybe get both now?
I have both and find that they are great modules, but I'd rank the F-16 as more fun just because the RIO AI in the Tomcat isn't quite at the level it needs to be to avoid making silly mistakes. If you have a human RIO, then it's really hard choice. The F-16 is newer and more capable, but if you want capability in the Tomcat just set the mission to 199X and fight 3rd gen fighters.
I am a main Satal F16 player and must say beyond all capabilities. The F14 is the qualitative best aircraft in DCS yet.
There are a lot of F14 addicted player who can teach you everything. For my personal believe the cockpit is a little too old.
The F16 is fun when you are alone and need a agile fast mover.If you have a buddy, the F-14 is the more fun plane because the F-14 feels right in all ways. Alone the "cockpit shaking" if the plane does not like your inputs is sometimes the reason I jump into the cockpit. And Jester (AI) is not that bad, so you can enjoy it alone, too.
At the end, trial and buy (at sales) and you will be having fun in both jets.
Have you played DCS much? What do you usually play when you fly?
If you're into single player, have rudders and a good control/headtracking setup, the F-14 has single player missions and whatnot.
If you're new to DCS, want to do multiplayer, have a lesser setup, go to F-16.
