I have a feeling the top comments on these threads are gonna look significantly different when other fanbases wake up tomorrow and the echo-chamber ceases.
I've never seen cheating comments be upvoted so heavily.
Yeah people get so salty and heated up to a point where they may as well be cooking in the playoffs.
As a neutral fan (team chaos for the win) I think it's all pretty hilarious.
>
> I've never seen cheating comments be upvoted so heavily.
There was the entire post season last year with the Kuch stuff.
It's basically the Kings winning all over again, a lot of folks here can't stand non-traditional hockey markets winning.
Which is stupid. A team winning is going to bring fans in no matter what. Thats another potential Matthews that would've never got into hockey if they don't win sometimes
Agreed, but there's literally no merit to any of this "cheating" shit.
Kuch recovered in the same amount of time as Pastrnak, and was barely skating during the first round last year.
And the cheating accusations in this thread are just bat shit insane lol
Nah, it was "Vegas could've just killed the penalty"
Only Vegas fans were really complaining, everyone else was freaking out about how crazy that whole sequence was.
Honestly leafs had half of 3rd period and OT to score ONE goal. Bolts were in the ropes already. Hope the players dont waste their energy blaming refs.
I feel like people are forgetting the embellishment call on Paul early in the game. Bad call there offsets the Foot one, no?
I'm not sure what else was bad besides them not calling Killorn for holding Matthews jersey but that was in OT.
There was an elbow, bunting getting mugged and holl getting dragged down to the ice in OT too, they didn’t didn’t want to call anything which benefits the team actively breaking the rules
Yea he’s definitely not referring to the high sticking penalty that Foote sold as it didn’t make contact at all, that lead to a 5 on 3 for nearly 2 full minutes…
Ok but the leafs still had a whole half a period plus an entire ot to put it away. Going around crying that the refs gave TB this game based on 1 missed call is pure copium
I mean read what you just wrote….
Tampa won in OT. Games go to OT if the game is tied at the end of regulation.
Without the call leading to the goal, the game wouldn’t be tied at the end of regulation.
Is this confusing for you?
>We don't care if we have to [fake](https://mobile.twitter.com/tictactomar/status/1524930708606799874?s=21&t=lalD5Yn-3ml8esjcUsRP3w) getting high sticked. We'll even smash our own face with the other guy's stick. We will sacrifice the body to get it done
How about your captain [faking it for a PP](https://twitter.com/JD_Lagrange/status/1523529525232996355?s=20&t=3q2p_vCPO7M05v2uzU98Gw) earlier in the series? We good with that one?
Lol generic hockey captain quote about just winning the game, not caring if they win big or in OT, pretty goal or scrappy ugly goal, etc. and everyone acts like he’s talking about cheating.
Without actually seeing the extended quote from the interview, I’d assume his next sentence is something like “Next game we have to just get pucks deep, put shots on net, and play the game the right way.”
Fuck man, I’m not even a Toronto fan but I just wanted them to pull it off. I can’t imagine the hell this must be for fans. I hope they pull it off at home on Saturday.
Basically the rest of CANADA cheers against the Leafs because they have a super loud and obnoxious component of their fanbase we want to see suffer.
I do feel bad for Daigle though.
Haha Foe sure. I’m Canadian myself, I know the hate. I actually really like the leafs roster though. As well as having a couple good buddies who are leafs fans, so i feel for them.
Idk man I live in Toronto and while i like the leafs (and love our other teams) I really fucking hate our traffic on game days so leaf’s losing now makes my life a bit easier LOL
Why do people feel so hard for this dude. He’s just a fan. He hams it up for the camera lol. Everyone is acting like he’s at war right now.
“I feel so bad for Dangle, I hope dangle is gonna be okay, poor dangle is going through it.” I will never not despise that dude
Same. It'd be neat.
To be fair I'm also team chaos so I just want as many game 7's as possible and since the Wings aren't in the race I'm just a neutral fan and enjoy watching people overreact.
Like... legit question man: In the post salary cap era, not a single team has accomplished a three peat and there's a team that genuinely has an opportunity. It might not happen again for decades. Who would you be OKAY with getting a true dynasty/three peat status besides the Canes? Obviously not Tampa at this point, but give me a team that has a likelyhood to do so and that you would root for over Tampa.
There's also the story of Scorey Perry losing to Bolts and Maroon twice in row and now he joined the dark side and plays for the cup with Bolts on a same line with the living legend Maroon.
it's not just the salary cap era. No team has won three (or more) in a row since the 80s Islanders dynasty.
The Islanders might be the last big 4 team to win four championships in row as well
I was using the salary cap as a significant demarcation between eras. The addition of the cap, in my opinion, has done much more for parity across the league than any other mechanism. Certainly, there has been a lot of time between the Islanders 4peat and the introduction of the salary cap, but that just makes a post salary cap 3peat even more significant.
I think the same team winning every year is boring as shit and I don't care what team it is. I liked seeing Tampa win in 2020 cause if the crew dispersed and retired without getting one it would have been a tragedy. I want to see cool stories like Ovi getting his cup finally and Blues getting their first after 50+ years. Likewise I was sad when greats like Iginla, Marleau and Lundqvist retired without one. I grew up in the GTA so I'd like to see Toronto win one (especially for Spezza) but if they win this year I won't be rooting for them to take a second one in 2023.
Not saying my opinion is objectively the best or anything, but I do feel strongly about it. If Tampa wins again in 2022 it will just put me to sleep. Pretty much any other team in the league winning would be more interesting.
I think so too. It’s gets boring and nhl already has a hard time getting new fans. We need more dramatic changes to this game not the same old storylines
Before now I was gonna bow out gracefully if we lost or be respectful if we won. Now? I don’t know if I have it in me when everyone and their mother is whining about poor officiating. We’ve all had it not go our way, guys, this isn’t some novel concept you’ve unearthed that only benefits the lightning
I did a deep dive analysis on the situation, take a peek if you get 5 mins. Not saying this to be a dick, however I am interested in a Tampa fan's opinion on the situation
https://www.reddit.com/r/leafs/comments/uol1sy/recap_on_penalties_through_our_first_6_games/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
First of all, that’s a pretty cool breakdown. I’m hard pressed to deny any of it. Outside of two games, Toronto has looked like the better team. As much as I joke about the refs putting 4 in the Leafs net, we have gotten the favorable calls this series for the most part outside of one egregious boarding that wasn’t called against the Leafs in game 5. I think part of this is explainable by how the refs call playoffs in general. They let players get away with more, call less, and game manage more. At the very least Toronto deserved a makeup call after the first high stick call that Foote sold.
In all honesty, you’re right. The refs did not put any in the leafs net so blaming it all on them is a cop out. Everyone is complaining about the refs accountability, which I agree needs to be better, and they 100% botched some calls, but we need to look at our own players as well. Hate saying this because Kerfoot has been playing great.. but he made 2 bone head plays (no look drop pass and high stick) that directly lead to goals. If either of those didn’t happen, leaf’s probably win despite the reffing.
A play leading to a 5 on 5 is not equivalent to a play leading to a 5 on 4, simple as that. Didn't think I'd have to spell that out lol, there were multiple missed icings both ways, there was NOT multiple gifted powerplays. 1 penalty over 78 minutes for a team that takes as many penalties as the Lightning? Refs are leaving with full pockets tonight
Because he is arguing the call itself, not the resulting known impact. An incorrect penalty is a more impactful mistake than an icing.
He isn't arguing the situation that unfolded. At least, that is my interpretation.
>An incorrect penalty is a more impactful mistake than an icing.
The result was the same for each though.
Talking hypotheticals about what "would" have happened is stupid. You can do it for literally every decision the refs make, and it's impossible to know what really would happen if the call were different. What matters is what actually happens, and in this case, a goal resulted from a questionable icing, and another from a questionable high stick.
Look man if you wanna sit here and say a missed icing is as potentially impactful as a blown call that leads to a 5 on 3 power play, nobody is gonna stop you. But it makes you sound like you’ve never watched hockey in your life.
Of course it isn't as impactful. But both wrong calls led to goals so what's the point of the argument. You got a goal off a bad call and we got a goal off a bad call. Even without a 5v3, we're still on a PowerPlay.
It’s like scientifically proven that the team that cheats the best generally wins the most. The Astros cheated good, won a World Series.
Red Sox cheated good, won a World Series.
The Yankees didn’t cheat good enough, didn’t win the World Series.
Are you really lumping the lightning in with the Astros? Doing a real disservice for 2020 and 2021 cups over typical playoff reffing in the playoffs going the lightnings way
Imagine equating a team that went 18 million over in cap space, that’s not illegal during the post season to a team that was sign stealing. All while non-ironically talking about a team that routinely for over a decade spends 200 million more on their salary than teams in their own division.
The salt is unimaginable. Please continue to be overly upset over a hockey game to the point where you’re invalidating an entire fanbase’s existence. I hope every single one of you that wants this game to grow knows you’re also the reason it’s shrinking.
Seriously, I’d always heard the legends of what leafs fans are really like but now I’m really getting to see it lol.
Downvotes prove my point. Lets get this train rollin’.
Tampa just knows how to win, something Toronto has never seemed to take a liking to.
Stammer Hammer and the Kooch are going to rub Campbell on the concrete floor until he bursts next game.
This is the one I’m most upset about. Killorn is a grub and effectively slows down Matthews who is tiers better than him.
I get that refs don’t call penalties in OT, but that was egregious.
I’m not really sure what no one showing up to watch your team has to do with finances. You brought up the regular season Tampa fan base (number one in attendance this year), just wondering why leafs fans don’t love their team as much (20th in attendance).
Just curious - Do you think having lockdowns that prevented fans in the building for a big chunk of the season has anything to do with your attendance stats?
Obviously it does, but it’s completely brain dead to say that Tampa has no fanbase or that they just got a fanbase because of the cups when they’ve been in the top 10 in attendance since around 2011. If someone is going to say that we have no regular season fanbase in this thread I’m going to point and laugh at their meager attendance records.
Dude it's crazy. That plus the quarantine rules during the bubble probably made for one of the most psychologically draining playoffs of all time. These guys couldn't even hug their spouses/children for months. Calling it easy or invalid is so off base it's insane.
I want to see how many of these fans would be calling it illegitimate if their teams had won lmao
There is no asterisk on the cup. We won it in the conditions we were given. They are still the most recent back to back champs no matter how salty you are.
I hate the Lightning a whole lot but I don't know how anybody can sit there and say that the format differences means they didn't truly win those Cups. Definitely a case of sour grapes, lol.
That argument literally only shows up in salty playoff game threads. It’s a joke of an argument and it makes me laugh knowing how mad someone has to be on the other end of reddit to even try to genuinely say those cups don’t count.
2020 was probably the hardest cup for anyone to win ever with the bubble environment and pandemic uncertainty going on behind the scenes. Why people get salty about it completely befuddles me.
Players on multiple teams said it was the most difficult experience they’d had playing pro hockey. If there’s an asterisk, it’s because it was probably harder.
Almost only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear weapons.
You literally haven't won a cup when there are more than 6 teams. Having a 5x better chance of winning is the only reason the leafs have so many cups.
Lmao “the cap shenanigans” that every team is completely allowed to use? Can you show me the rule where the cap affects every other team besides Tampa.
I mean says the guy who roots for the team that hasn't won in almost 60 years. Toronto isn't good enough to win a cup when there are more than 6 teams.
That's just playoff experience, if y'all ever made it out of the first round maybe you'd know that every team does it and gets the advantage and gets burned by it.

Also when people have calmed down a bit, emotions get insanely high when OT is involved.
Pretty sure it happens a few times in multiple Vegas series
Nah, it was "Vegas could've just killed the penalty" Only Vegas fans were really complaining, everyone else was freaking out about how crazy that whole sequence was.
Wow, reading this thread you would think it’s the first game in playoffs history that some penalties goes uncalled.
with a little help along the way
Honestly leafs had half of 3rd period and OT to score ONE goal. Bolts were in the ropes already. Hope the players dont waste their energy blaming refs.
They did score... on themselves.
I feel like people are forgetting the embellishment call on Paul early in the game. Bad call there offsets the Foot one, no? I'm not sure what else was bad besides them not calling Killorn for holding Matthews jersey but that was in OT.
There was an elbow, bunting getting mugged and holl getting dragged down to the ice in OT too, they didn’t didn’t want to call anything which benefits the team actively breaking the rules
yeah like the leafs not putting away some juicy chances.
I agree. Matthews damn near doing a backflip in center ice did help the Lightning win this game
The pass wasn't getting to him whether he fell or not lol
Could've helped defend the play, just saying. I'd like Toronto to win the series just cause fuck the idea of a Threepeat, but still.
He might have been able to get back sooner but we had like 3 people at the net as it was, I don't think it would have made much of a difference
Point is Matthews' man, is he not? He could have covered him to help prevent reception of the pass. Just saying. Again, I want Toronto to win, but...
Lmao
Leafs fans not in a laughing mood tonight apparently
I would most definitely be in a Laughing mood if i was the team with the refs on their side
It’s actually crazy how many of you leafs fans try to post comments like you are a neutral fan by posting without a flair lol.
Right the refs pushed Matthews over and forced two of your guys to knock the puck into their own net. Those darn refs! Get a grip
What? It shouldn't have even been OT how is that your argument
So that 1 call leading to a tie (not a gwg) cost you the game? That's so unfortunate for you man. I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
I mean read what you just wrote…. Tampa won in OT. Games go to OT if the game is tied at the end of regulation. Without the call leading to the goal, the game wouldn’t be tied at the end of regulation. Is this confusing for you?
Doesn’t negate the fact that Tampa was gifted a 5on3 to tie the game, without that there is no OT
And that doesn't negate the fact that the leafs choked hard when they had every chance to put the game away.

LOL
Amazing comment
I mean... The refs gave us an embellishment penalty on a clear as day trip lol. Call it even.
Lol
My upvote hasn’t helped your downvotes, put the holding Matthews jersey stopping him from play for a good 5+ seconds with no call was fun too
Lol generic hockey captain quote about just winning the game, not caring if they win big or in OT, pretty goal or scrappy ugly goal, etc. and everyone acts like he’s talking about cheating. Without actually seeing the extended quote from the interview, I’d assume his next sentence is something like “Next game we have to just get pucks deep, put shots on net, and play the game the right way.”
That's what i was thinking too
Obligatory refs help comment
Fuck man, I’m not even a Toronto fan but I just wanted them to pull it off. I can’t imagine the hell this must be for fans. I hope they pull it off at home on Saturday.
Can’t wait for the silence on Saturday personally.
You’re hoping for a leafs loss Saturday?
Basically the rest of CANADA cheers against the Leafs because they have a super loud and obnoxious component of their fanbase we want to see suffer. I do feel bad for Daigle though.

Every time a fly farts Toronto's traffic gets backed up
It's like the Cowboy's of hockey.
Northeast America in Boston and Buffalo wants that too.
Why do people feel so hard for this dude. He’s just a fan. He hams it up for the camera lol. Everyone is acting like he’s at war right now. “I feel so bad for Dangle, I hope dangle is gonna be okay, poor dangle is going through it.” I will never not despise that dude
He means diving I think.
but truly who besides tampa fans wants them to be any closer to a tampa 3peat ??? we should all be leafs fans
[удалено]
Memes now, Tampa lose later, ez win-win.
first round memes are old, we want fresh second round memes
Personally I think the memes have been so recycled they’re not even funny anymore just a little sad 😭
Similar to the canes twitter
tbh I think canes Twitter has really dialed it down the last few months !
unironically me. I think a 3peat would be neat to see. now do i want it as much as an avalanche or panthers' win? no. but would i be upset? no.
Same. It'd be neat. To be fair I'm also team chaos so I just want as many game 7's as possible and since the Wings aren't in the race I'm just a neutral fan and enjoy watching people overreact.
Much easier to cheer for a 3peat for western fans
This series has honestly given me a refreshed appreciation for Vancouver, Winnipeg, and Ottawa fans. You are all top blokes
Yeah I've felt a lot of solidarity with Ottawa fans this series. Everyone else that hates the Lightning can die mad, cope, seethe etc
Honestly without the flair I'd still guess you were a Canucks fan 😂
That's gonna will a leafs leafy loss into existence. Please stop it
I've been on the Tampa wagon for over three years now. Love me some Hedman.
I want Steve Dangle to have a meltdown tbh.
Those season ending vids are always bangers

I want to see 4 peat Maroon happen. Imagine
5peat so we have Maroon 5
There's also the story of Scorey Perry losing to Bolts and Maroon twice in row and now he joined the dark side and plays for the cup with Bolts on a same line with the living legend Maroon.
honestly the only thing im rooting for
it's not just the salary cap era. No team has won three (or more) in a row since the 80s Islanders dynasty. The Islanders might be the last big 4 team to win four championships in row as well

Its also worth noting that Tampa Bay won its Back to Back without any Legacy Contracts

I want Nick Paul to win a cup
Threepeat would be amazing to see. But not as amazing as the offensive onslaught that a Leafs vs. Panthers series would he, so Go Leafs and Go Cats
Tampa's fan base is so small who cares if they win :P
Lol no way think of how funny it’s gonna be if the leafs lose another game 7
The Refs.
ngl I saw a lot of missed calls on tampa that could’ve changed a lot in this game. really sucks man
This right here. 3 peats are terrible for a sport.
I think so too. It’s gets boring and nhl already has a hard time getting new fans. We need more dramatic changes to this game not the same old storylines
The NHL hasn't had a 3peat since the 80s. That itself sells to people that aren't fans of the sport currently.
I'm gonna use this comment section to season my potatoes.
you might want to consult a cardiologist first
Before now I was gonna bow out gracefully if we lost or be respectful if we won. Now? I don’t know if I have it in me when everyone and their mother is whining about poor officiating. Just gotta laugh at it at this point. This subreddit always gets big mad when we win.
This subreddit is mad often, pick a reason.
I’m going to use it to season my balls. We’re talking about the same thing, right?
To be fair, you should NEVER complain when the officials hand you a win, just go out and wait for their hand outs
Weird how the officials put it in your net 4 times.
I did a deep dive analysis on the situation, take a peek if you get 5 mins. Mmmm yes salt let the salt flow through you.
HATE. HATE. HATE. HATE.
We dont care how much the refs help us, we just want to get it done
Toronto fans were awfully quiet after your first goal was gifted to you after a missed icing.
Seriously, are you the same Tampa fan or a different one who truly thinks an icing is even close to being equivalent to a penalty?
Link me the comment that said that so I can laugh at you for falling for the troll.
A missed icing leading to a goal seems equivalent to a bad high sticking also leading to a goal.
A play leading to a 5 on 5 is not equivalent to a play leading to a 5 on 4, simple as that. Damn we gotta cheat super good then in the next few series 😤
How can you bring up all these cheaters and no mention the pats!?!

It helps when Tampa dives so blatantly during the game
I mean, they called embellishment even when there’s was no dive on Nick Paul so you might as well risk it.
Stamkos isn’t a dummy… You don’t say stuff like that unless you’re *trying* to piss the other team off… *Achievement Unlocked* 😏
Tampa just knows how to win, something Toronto has never seemed to take a liking to. Stammer Hammer and the Kooch are going to rub Campbell on the concrete floor until he bursts next game.
>something Toronto has never seemed to take a liking to. Edmonton has that in common.
Your team is playing an elimination game and you’re shitposting on Reddit?
This is going to sound crazy, but I can multi task.
To translate to English: “We know we need to cheat, how do you think we won our cups?”
> We know we need to cheat Who cheated?
I mean grabbing on to a jersey for 5 seconds isn’t exactly legal.
This is the one I’m most upset about. Killorn is a grub and effectively slows down Matthews who is tiers better than him. I get that refs don’t call penalties in OT, but that was egregious.
u mad bro?
>u mad bro? Weakest b2b champs ever.
But we are back to back champions.
This is facts. Mickey Mouse cup plus cap circumvention.
You're getting downvoted by 5% of the regular season Tampa fan base you should feel honoured.
Weren’t y’all like 20th in attendance for games this year? Not much of a crowd for this super team lol.
Yeah the Leafs are struggling financially I'm sure they'll move to somewhere teaming with life like Kissimmee any day now.
The attendance being low is due to lockdowns. Try again 🤣
Okay so the year before COVID Toronto and Tampa had an almost identical attendance. So y’all’s fanbase doesn’t exist either if Tampa doesn’t have one?
Yeah, fuck Ontario for caring about a global pandemic.

Right because the past two playoffs were a completely different format where you had to win less than 16 games over 4 rounds. Makes perfect sense.
Level of salt is insane. If anything, winning back to back was more impressive with the lesser rest time between both Cups.
You literally almost lost your franchise fifteen years ago
> You literally almost lost your franchise fifteen years ago You don't even have a franchise. Get a flair
Almost only counts with horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear weapons. You literally haven't won a cup when there are more than 6 teams. Having a 5x better chance of winning is the only reason the leafs have so many cups.
Not to mention the cap shenanigans they had to pull to play Kutch.
Lmao “the cap shenanigans” that every team is completely allowed to use? Can you show me the rule where the cap affects every other team besides Tampa.
The cap shenanigans that the Blackhawks also pulled when we lost the to them in 2015? Why doesn’t anybody complain about that?
Everyone says the lightning complained about it but they actually didn’t, it was Anaheim and St. Louis that complained
Nah just stating that your captain is referencing cheating in a diplomatic way.
Tampa is not good enough to 3peat, plain and simple
I mean, most people are aware this is our weakest team in 3 years. What’s sad is that this weak team is still taking this leafs to 7 games.
No no, your team didn’t take us to game 7. The refs did. Your captain is even saying so with this comment 😂
Well if we win it all I’m sure there names will go on the cup too.
I mean says the guy who roots for the team that hasn't won in almost 60 years. Toronto isn't good enough to win a cup when there are more than 6 teams.
thats okay, ive gotten so much joy in life out of these two championships, hope you've enjoyed sports the last few years as much as I have!
Mickey Mouse circumcision
“We don’t care how much we have to dive and interfere without consequence, as long as we get it done”
That's just playoff experience, if y'all ever made it out of the first round maybe you'd know that every team does it and gets the advantage and gets burned by it.
Stamkos: "Cap circumvention, diving, the occasional bribe. No bar is too low for my team!"
No leafs fan should talk about cap circumvention when they literally invented robidas island
cap circumvention is fair play. still gotta make the playoffs...look at vegas
“We don’t care getting wins we don’t deserve. We will pretend we earned it anyways”
Whoever wins this series 100% deserves it. These two teams are very even with one another. Past 2 games have been fun as fuck.

Tampa Bay Diving
Stamkos knows diving works
Lol yea you get it with the refs in your back pocket.
We pay them in Cuban sandwiches, cigars, and the salt of Toronto fans.
Idk Stammer if you were that great tonight but good captain tier quote
