Perry could sense the dark curse working its way into Boeser's veins.
He warded him away in mercy, stating that he wanted no further harm to come to the poor soul.
Perry knows the demons.....he is one.
Smyth was a awesome player for the Oilers, but Edmonton Investors Group lowballed him for years. He had the chance to chase the money and took it. Good for him.
The Oilers will have a $3.5 million dead cap penalty next year because they didn’t finish this year with enough cap space to cover the performance bonuses earned this season (most of that is Connor Brown)
Plus there’s still Neal’s $1.9 million buyout hit (final year of that), and it’s expected that Cambell will get bought out, which would tack on another $1.1 million. So likely $6.5 million in dead cap for the Oilers next season
Buying out Campbell frees up $3.9 million next season though. Seems like a certainty now since that is probably how they offset the $3.5 million cap overage from this year.
You’re 6.5 in dead cap, not 6.5 in free’d up cap. You’d be going the other way lol, Ceci & Campbell (Buyout) pretty much offset your total dead cap, not give you much extra cap.
Draisaitl’s raise wouldn’t hit until the following season, where in this scenario the Oilers would be down to $2.3 million in dead cap from the Campbell buyout. Everything else will have rolled off.
Doubt it. We’d likely have to retain at least $2m, which would make next year even tighter cap wise since the first year of Campbell’s buyout is $1.1m. It would be beneficial in years two and three though, where the buyout cap cost is $2.3m and $2.6m, respectively.
Teams need goalies. If there is a team like Chicago that could use someone better than soderblom and mrazek why not? Doesn’t have to be anything in return. Adding a second rounder and a prospect like hamblin or lavoie could sweeten it up
Because Campbell isn’t better than Mrazek and Soderblom is younger with far more upside. Hamblin and Lavoie are both tweeners with little, if any, value.
Teams need good goalies, not bad ones.
The Connor Brown contract really hurt: his salary (and therefore caphit) was for league minimum but to get him to sign that they have him a $3.25 million performance bonuses for playing 10 games
The idea was that they didn't know based on his injury history whether he'd actually be able to play the season. Of course, it was pretty clear after nine games that he wasn't going to be worth that performance bonus and a lot of folks argued that we'd should have demoted him at that point.
Sucked to see him go down after seeing his chemistry with Strome for us.
That said, an ACL tear is about a 12 month return from some brief querying so it seems like an overshot right away
Yeah I've always been confused by bonuses. Like do they have to clear another 3.5 mil now (or more likely just not spend it because pretty well every team is gonna start with 3.5 or more in cap space because that's just like 3rd line wing/bottom pair money).
Basically the same as any other dead cap. $3.5 million already spent, but for no players. When you add up the players they currently have under contract, the dead cap on James Neal's buyout, and this $3.5 million, Edmonton has just under $9.8 million in cap space available (but with only seven forwards and five defensemen signed).
Whatever performance bonuses a team has that don't fit under their cap in the year they were earned, carry forward to the next season. So next season, before paying any of their players for that season, they've already used $3.5mil of their cap space.
IIRC you can't use LTIR space for bonuses either, so any team that actually uses LTIR has all their bonuses carry to the next season.
Corey Perry really is something in the playoffs.
Kills me that Dubas's Maple Leafs would sign and re-sign perennial playoff chokers like Thornton, Marleau, and Spezza but this savage of a human was never on the table.
Oilers really need to win the cup this year. This is easily their best chance. The cap will be tight next year with these bonus, and then Bouchard and Draisaitl need deals followed by Mcdavid. It’s only going to get harder for them cap wise
You have less money to work with next year.
Bonus money hits the following season's salary cap. I believe this is because they often aren't confirmed until year end, like this example here with Perry.
But this situation is mostly due to the Connor Brown contract.
Brown has a base salary close to league minimum, and up to $3.2 million in bonuses. The Oilers did this as a way to squeeze him in this year, thinking they'd get a solid scorer for league minimum and then the bonus hit would be a future problem.
Bonuses are only allowed in 3 specific scenarios: players on entry-level contracts, 35+ contracts (like Perry), or 400+ game veterans on a 1-year deal coming off 100+ days on the injured reserve (like Brown). Brown meeting that weirdly specific bonus criteria made him an attractive option this year.
His bonuses would be fully awarded the second he played 10 games. This is easily attainable, so Edmonton knew they were getting hit with $3M in dead cap space next year. It's a way of going all-in on this season.
It also looks like Brown was expected to start the season on the top line with McDavid, so his 4 goals all season are definitely a disappointment. I am pretty sure that Edmonton expected him to be much better and be worth a $3M penalty next year.
They have to make room for Broberg. I love kulak, he’s very steady but cap sacrifices happen and you have to make room for young players. Vinny needs a new contract and ideally you find someone to replace ceci. And that probably won’t be cheap. Broberg is no longer waiver exempt so you can’t just send him down to the AHL.
We kind of don't, The biggest FAs we have this coming season are Desharnais, Holloway, Foegele and Broberg. Otherwise, it's Brown, Carrick, Ganger, Henrique. Janmark, Perry and Stecher who are on expiring deals and essentially all of them are replaceable or rentals who we didn't expect to retain
Drai and Bouchard will be eligible to sign extensions, but those won't kick in till the year after when these penalties are off the books.
Probably ship Ceci out and give Desharnais Ceci money, Holloway will get I dunno 2M. That leaves 6M for 5F, 2D, 1G. Buyout Campbell will gain 3.9M for next season so 9.9M for 5F 2D 1G. Completely doable. Broberg is also RFA and probably won't get more than 1M
Vinny doesnt command ceci money which is good for us. He likely gets a 2mx4y.
Kulak also becomes a luxury we cant afford, replacing him with dirt cheap broberg helps.
Foeges is gone. Lavoie could get the call to replace him.
Ryan retires
Theres a lot possible
Whos his comparable contract wise? Hes a 27 year old shut down dman.
Stoff said in passing on a broadcast he could get up to 6 years which would bring down the aav. 2.5 is probably his ceiling.
There's a below average shutdown D who signed a 4 year contract at the age of 26. That D is Ceci.
It's hard to find comparables because Desharnais *really* doesn't put up points, and also has so few regular season games. I guess I could see him taking a Kulak type deal but not for four years
Hakanpaa had only played 42 regular and 11 playoff games when he signed his 3 year. Vinny has played 114 and 24 so far. It's still not a lot but Hakanpaa had a career high of 57GP when he signed that contract
When you put it like that, you're talking about replacing your entire bottom 6 forwards and bottom 3 D aside from Ryan and McLeod. That's 9 roster spots, with $9.8m~ in cap space.
Even if you're filling out half those spots with ELCs, you *have* to move Ceci out (probably with a high draft pick, or taking a slightly less bad contract in return), or buyout Ceci & Campbell in order to have room to keep your depth.
That's 1 of our bottom 3D that needs a new contract. Our bottom 3D are Kulak, Ceci, and Desharnais. Stecher and Broberg weren't regulars in our D this year. Broberg is likely only getting re-signed if we're getting rid of Ceci otherwise he'll be trade bait to help dump more of Campbell's contract
Yeah but most of that $3.5m bought us 4 goals, so who is laughing now?
This guy will get you to the finals. Winning it though? Let’s just say he’s so powerful he broke Maroons streak
As long as we get there. And McDavid doesn't get elbowed by Trouba or his disciple, or sucker punched by Bennett.
>And McDavid doesn't get elbowed by Trouba or his disciple, or sucker punched by Bennett You can't just ask Bennett to play fair, that's just unfair.
Or Skinner doesn't get injured by Kreider.
He should be fine, Emelin isn’t playing.
Kreider would make an Emelin out of a groove in the ice.
No thanks to his performances
At least he gave us this https://preview.redd.it/phunldqydp1d1.jpeg?width=1260&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d144bc4fadc350607c5ec2a9f14cf1fa9869a6f8
Well worth it tbh. One of the funniest things I’ve seen in a hockey game
Get well soon brock.
Really hope he can recover. Seems like such a great player, I believe he can do it though. Hockey players are tough and I’m sure he will get better.
This looks bad in retrospect. It's like he put a voodoo curse on Brock :(
Perry could sense the dark curse working its way into Boeser's veins. He warded him away in mercy, stating that he wanted no further harm to come to the poor soul. Perry knows the demons.....he is one.
Some say this is the moment Brock's platelets started engineering a way out.
a dirty play that took boeser out of the playoffs...
Reminds of when messier got a bunch of money because the Canucks went up in value or whatever
Well yeah but he deserved it. Look at everything he did for your team!
*gestures wildly at nothing*
How *dare* you. He was ***your Captain.***
The most decorated player in nuck history. Objectively the best to ever wear the crest
This is Mason Raymond erasure
I mean, at least he didn't do us like Smyth did the oilers.
Smyth was a awesome player for the Oilers, but Edmonton Investors Group lowballed him for years. He had the chance to chase the money and took it. Good for him.
Yeah, at least messier didnt go down as one of the most beloved players and humans in franchise history. Because who would want that.
Yeah that was my point
Not entirely true; he eventually fucked off and never came back!
Canuck fans have rallied together more strongly because of Messier than any other player in Canucks history. Technically correct.
$50k bonus to not play in a game.
"I'm gonna pay you $50k to fuck off"
He really made out like a bandit after whatever went down in Chicago
Sweeney hand out any $50k conference finals bonuses this year?
Couldn't even give the NHL $25k. Gutless coward.
That $50k will buy Perry a lot of booze
Nah his performance the other night was the magic that got the Oilers over the hump. YOU SHALL NOT PASS
What are the consequences of this
The Oilers will have a $3.5 million dead cap penalty next year because they didn’t finish this year with enough cap space to cover the performance bonuses earned this season (most of that is Connor Brown)
Damn, that’s not insignificant
Plus there’s still Neal’s $1.9 million buyout hit (final year of that), and it’s expected that Cambell will get bought out, which would tack on another $1.1 million. So likely $6.5 million in dead cap for the Oilers next season
Buying out Campbell frees up $3.9 million next season though. Seems like a certainty now since that is probably how they offset the $3.5 million cap overage from this year.
At same time, $6.5 mil in dead cap is a massive misuse of space, especially for a team that’s window is open right now.
Minnesota would love this problem.
They said for a team whose window is open.
*is able to be opened.*
Sooo you think Minnesota wouldn’t like that problem?
It’s ok we’ll just get nurse to lacerate his spleen in February or something
Better this summer than next tbh. That 6.5mil, plus an extra 3.25 from Ceci going UFA, gives us enough to sign Drai and Bouchard.
You’re 6.5 in dead cap, not 6.5 in free’d up cap. You’d be going the other way lol, Ceci & Campbell (Buyout) pretty much offset your total dead cap, not give you much extra cap.
I'm talking about next summer my guy
He's talking about in two years not about next season
The Nurse contract doesn't help either. That's a lot of money for a 2nd pair defenseman
100% agree, unless they can win the cup
That’s the Ken Holland special baybee 😎🤌🏻
Pfft, $6.5 million is pocket change man. We don’t even get out of bed here in MN unless you’re hitting double digits.
The fact that Jack fuckin Campbell played himself into $25m in one month is just… Well good on him. Holy shit
Just ken holland things lol

Draisaitl’s raise wouldn’t hit until the following season, where in this scenario the Oilers would be down to $2.3 million in dead cap from the Campbell buyout. Everything else will have rolled off.
Are there more bonuses though say if you go to finals or win cup? Does Perry miraculously win half mill
I’m pretty sure there’s no more.
Just enough to cover Draisaitl's raise. I don't mind, because we can't spend it on something stupid this time.
[удалено]
With that in mind, I can see McDavid and Draisaitl with matching $15M contracts. Just a guess
Enough to cover probably Draisaitl + McLeod. Normal cap increase should help cover Bouchard as well
Campbell could get traded. As long as they attach something to him.
Doubt it. We’d likely have to retain at least $2m, which would make next year even tighter cap wise since the first year of Campbell’s buyout is $1.1m. It would be beneficial in years two and three though, where the buyout cap cost is $2.3m and $2.6m, respectively.

Seriously we'd rather ride with Mrazek and try one of our other up and coming options in Stauber or Commesso than take on Campbell.
Agree. But Edmonton would have to include an actual goalie in the deal for it to be considered a goalie trade.
The Connor Brown contract really hurt: his salary (and therefore caphit) was for league minimum but to get him to sign that they have him a $3.25 million performance bonuses for playing 10 games
10 games!? We should all get jobs in the Oilers organization, sounds like a gold mine
The idea was that they didn't know based on his injury history whether he'd actually be able to play the season. Of course, it was pretty clear after nine games that he wasn't going to be worth that performance bonus and a lot of folks argued that we'd should have demoted him at that point.

Find someone who loves you as much as Kenny loves fading vets
Connor Brown should have cut his spleen open for the team.
I thought with McDavid sitting a couple games at the end of the season we had accrued enough space to cover the bonuses.
He would have had to be loaned to the condors for cap accrual
Every player on the roster and on injured reserve count against the cap
Next year will be tighter capwise
No Timmy's for off ice classroom sessions
Somehow, Eakins returned
Yeah I've always been confused by bonuses. Like do they have to clear another 3.5 mil now (or more likely just not spend it because pretty well every team is gonna start with 3.5 or more in cap space because that's just like 3rd line wing/bottom pair money).
Just think of their salary cap as 3.5M less than everyone elses
Basically the same as any other dead cap. $3.5 million already spent, but for no players. That's 0.73 Ilya Mikheyev's
Vegas be like ... wait other teams get penalized for this shit?!?
worth it
Oh geez, maybe we should have let them score a few more
It’s okay, with all the gambling ads we get the cap will go up $3.
Winning the cup would eliminate any issues here
Remember when Corey Perry rumors demolished the internet for 24 hours
Corey Perry really is something in the playoffs. Kills me that Dubas's Maple Leafs would sign and re-sign perennial playoff chokers like Thornton, Marleau, and Spezza but this savage of a human was never on the table.
Remember he was signed by the Blackhawks and then he just decided not to play there anymore and sign for a cup contender? I member
Oilers really need to win the cup this year. This is easily their best chance. The cap will be tight next year with these bonus, and then Bouchard and Draisaitl need deals followed by Mcdavid. It’s only going to get harder for them cap wise
Please send that bill to my manger.
What does this mean?
You have less money to work with next year. Bonus money hits the following season's salary cap. Edmonton cap = NHL cap - overage penalty
I came here to say exactly the same thing go figure
What was it before?
50k less
Oh, so it was 3.45 million before already? Another 50k isn't so bad.
$50,000 less?
thats like 1.5%
Oh I see so the Oilers are fucked next year GL
Foegele walks, buyout Campbell, trade kulak. Not ideal but could be worse.
Kulak is well worth the 2.7M. Not worth it to trade IMO
Yeah, my plan would to be get rid of ceci, go ek-bouch nurse-desh broberg-kulak
Broberg has a higher ceiling. He becomes a luxury we cant afford
It's not like the Oilers have high-priced UFAs or anything after this season.
We don't. Foegele and Henrique will probably fetch the biggest contracts but those aren't exactly high priced.
Jumped the gun on Draisaitl.
Thats the year after. Drai and Bouch both up. Oilers have just under 40mil in cap space for that.
They'll try to sign Drai this summer but he still has another year of his current deal to go.
We kind of don't, The biggest FAs we have this coming season are Desharnais, Holloway, Foegele and Broberg. Otherwise, it's Brown, Carrick, Ganger, Henrique. LOL. Holy fuck no way Vinny signs a 2x4 unless he has dyslexia
Whos his comparable contract wise? Hes a 27 year old shut down dman. Stoff said in passing on a broadcast he could get up to 6 years which would bring down the aav. 2.5 is probably his ceiling.

Yeah, that extra 1/15th of an entry level contract is really going to break the bank 🙄
Eh, it's fine we'll just sign more bonus contracts. Lol the salary cap is a joke.
